Cafe Series Planetary Mixmaster MX9200

Why is this dysfunctional not taken out of circulation. I had to return mine due to its inability to mix anything well. Absolutely useless for creaming butter and sugar. I am using my 20 year old Sunbeam mixer which is just perfect. Christmas cakes, pavlovas, sponges and cakes all beautifully mixed.

Hello Libby,
Thank you for your question...
All mixers no matter how expansive they are will at times need to have the bowl scrapped down with a spatula, especially when there is a small quantity of ingredients on the bowl.

All recipes that usually begin with butter and sugar will instruct you to scrap the bowl and mix again because most mixers will need that help at first and then will be fine when more ingredients are added.

This is not a satisfactory answer. My old Sunbeam creamed perfectly. I see many other comments re this problem in reviews of this mixer. I also have quite a few friends who have also returned their new mixers. Thank you for your reply but this model does need to improve.

Hi. I have a sunbeam cafe series mixer. The mixer attachment will not come off as it should. Has anyone experienced this and if so, how can I get it off.

No but I returned this mixer as it would not cream butter and sugar. The paddle did not scrape the sides of the bowl

Hello Kiwi,
To remove the particular mixing attachment, push it upwards, turn it anticlockwise, then pull it downwards (Figure 8; on page 8): https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Root/Specifications/InstructionBooklet/MX9200_ib_1.pdf

Hi Sunbeam
Thank you for responding. If it worked as above then I would not have a problem. The attachment does not want to move around to the point that allows me to pull it downwards. And yes I have done the usual push it up and turn anticlockwise. I love my sunbeam products but I must say this one is a bit frustrating as I also find it does not cream properly. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Cafe Series Planetary Mixmaster MX9200

Ive had the Mixer for under a year and haven't used it very much but now its not working. The machine turns on, the LED light turns on but when I turn the dial to make it mix - nothing happens. The timer on the LED begins and then 4 seconds later the LED goes blank and then appears with this ( -- EO ) on the screen. Nothing i do will change this, i just have to unplug it. It seems like an Error code or maybe its referring to something but there is no information about what this could mean in the manual or anywhere online. Please help!

Hello r.winter,
It sounds like the Mixer head is not locked down properly, see page 15 for steps to fix: https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Root/Specifications/InstructionBooklet/MX9200_ib_1.pdf

I want to know why my mixer does not cream butter and sugar well. It takes for ever and to my way of thinking it doesnt blend the ingredients properly. Also when adding eggs to a mix it seems to not blend again successfully.

HI Gage,
If the mix is light, maybe give the whisk a try, it may work more efficiently for you but not with heavy mixes.

I will give that a go thanks.

Hi, I have a MX9200 and when I turn the speed on it doesn't change the speed. The LED display tells me it is changing to whatever speed from 1 to 12 but the motor maintains the same speed. Any ideas?

I can NOT get the bowl off of my brand new read Sunbeam mix master - is it meant to be as simple as turning it anti clockwise? It will NOT budge. Not happy

Hi, yea it should come of while turning anti clockwise unless it stuck. I would take it back to the retailer. This cafe series is troublesome.

I've also noticed the bowl can be hard to remove, but it should lift off by turning it firmly anti-clockwise. Give it a gentle back and forth treatment and see what that does. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I suggest you send an email to Sunbeam from their website. If you don't get any joy from them, have a look on their website for the servicing agent nominated for your area. From my experience, the mother boards are not crash hot on these machines. I had to have mine replaced, cost $170.

Whatever speed you set it on it just starts sipping faster and faster out of control and you have to turn it off. It is a bit disappointing as don't cook very regularly and only used about 12 times since we purchased in December 2013. Is this a fixable problem?

So when I turn on my machine everything is fine but when I turn the speed dial nothing! I have used it 3 times I have done everything I can think of the clock works and will count down but when the speed dial is turned it doesn't show up and also doesn't spin is three something I'm supposed to do to get it to work??

Michelle if you turn on the machine and turn the dial before touching any clock settings and there is no movement, you have a dud. Unfortunately an electronic stepping motor control looks flash but now days is cheaper than an analogue one to install(like the slide switch on grandma's old one....that still works I bet) if, in the interim you really need to use it you can try physically turning the planetary section as you turn the dial But Be Carefull! If there is no response, return it to Sunbeam and if under warranty I would lean towards a refund and go non-planetary or kitchenmaid.

We have had our mixer for a couple of months now and although we are happy with it, the motor seems to be slipping even on low speed. It rotates fine and then every 5 second seems to slip and then come back to its normal speed again. This is very annoying as it does not allow for a consistent mix. Any ideas as to why it is doing this? It has been an issue since the day we purchased it.

Stu I have not opened up the mixer to look at the planetary gearing mechanism but I dought it has thrust bearings because some customers reported a complete shearing of a cheap brass cog.Depending on what your mixing ie dough etc and I'm speculating, you may have sheared a pin or key in which case use your warranty. Some other consumers report it not having the power to mix what they want. If I was designing it I would incorporate an overload protection so you could at least still use it for soft mixes, how and if that exists is a Sunbeam question.Good luck.

It sounds like the mixer needs to be assessed under warranty terms as I haven't had any issues with mine at all.

thanks guys, the mixer slips even when its turned on and not mixing ay substace at all so its not a tension issue. will contact sunbeam and ask.

The power is on the lights are on and when I turn the dial the red speed dial moves up but the paddle does not start to move.

It is just 12 months old. It happened a few weeks ago and I switched off the power and on again and then it worked again.

But no luck with that opt this time.

What is wrong with it ?

I have rcently been given a Sunbeam Cafe Series mixmaster. No real complaints, but find that with small amounts (eg just 2 eggs, etc) in the large bowl, even the scraper attachment fails to get into the whole mix and I have to stop the thing and scrape down the sides a lot. Was hoping to find a small bowl to fit the machine, but apparently not available. Any suggestions as to how to fix the problem?

I burned out yet another Kenwood appliance engine. I bake a LOT of breads etc, and am starting to think there is no machine out there that will actually last the distance. Hi Johanna, MX9200 has the strength to make breads as long as the amount of ingredients does not exceed 500gms of flour. For further information please contact our Consumer Support Team on 1300 881 861.

Cafe Series Planetary Mixmaster MX9200

Just replaced my 40+ year old sunbeam MXF model mixer with a MX9200 based largely on positive reviews from this site. When I unpacked and tested it, I noticed that the mixer head (silver rotating part) is askew - it has a larger gap (between the rotating part and the red mixer body) on one side than the rest of the part, and this is exaggerated when the unit is switched on (the gap follows the mixer head around and around). not sure if i have described the problem very well but has anyone else noticed a similar thing? is this normal or will I be making a trip back to the retailer to have it replaced?

I would take it back as I just checked mine and no gap...

Thanks katrinar73, I have already repacked it ready to take back. I looked at some of the promo videos on the sunbeam website and mine definitely does not look right. Unfortunately the store website is showing no more red ones in stock....was considering exchanging for the breville scraper mixer pro instead (comes with bonus ice cream bowl at the moment) but the previous sunbeam one lasted so long (it is actually older than I am) I was happy to invest in another one. Now not sure what to do.....

Which of your Sunbeam model mixers are the most powerful? I had a Sunbeam Kitchen Centre for over 32 years (sadly it burnt out trying to mix a batch of hot cross buns at Easter). I was EXTREMELY happy with my Kitchen Centre.
I want to replace it with a powerful mixer (that will cope with a batch of hot cross buns next time!).
