My best kitchen appliance ever ... but
There are no buts. I love this machine. Did the barista course through Sunbeam so that i could really shine when making coffee. I shine so well that I refuse to buy a coffee when out because mine is better! I am totally keen about cleaning it and looking after it and it loves me back. It is very easy to use and cleaning it, even though a bit of a mission, easy to do. We use it every day and would be totally lost without it.

best bang for buck
This machine is amazing, had for 4 years with not one problem. I make 3-4 cups a day on it and has never let me down. temp gauge for milk is also great. on sale for $399 was a bargain. great medium style machine. Cup warmer works well and the machine is easy to flush out and clean.

This is a quality machine
This machine is easy to use
This machine is easy to clean
This machine produces a great shot of coffee.
As with all coffee machines you have to have a bit of know how to make this machine sing, but when it does, is glorious.
The shot presets are a good amount for single and dual shot, and manual is always there for more.
Pressure is good, not great, but produces a good quality froth. Not quite as silky as expected from bigger machines, but very good for a home machine.
The only con I can find is that insects And stuff live to somehow squeeze into the water compartment at the back. Not sure if that's a fault with the seal. (Could be just mine)
Overall, great machine for the price you pay!

Is ok but consider other brands
I purchased this for the office, the machine is well built and works ok. However I struggle to get a good coffee out of it. I have a Breville machine at home which produces a much better brew. The steam wand is great on this machine with lots of pressure.

Great machine
Our 2nd sunbeam previous one last nearly 10 years so happy to buy another one. This one is even. Better with som additional features. We would recommend this machine as it is easy to use and produces great coffee. You can choose your own coffee beans instead being forced into pods which are bad for the environment.

We love this so much we have 2!
One in our holiday house and one at home. We are so thrilled with the quality of the machine and took the time to properly learn how to make a good coffee with a barista. This machine makes a consistently great coffee every time - the crema is perfect and the temperature gauge means the milk is always right. We use the Cafe series grinder as well and always make sure we have a good quality bean as well as using A2 full cream milk which is what was suggested by the barista. We replaced the seal in the one at home after 12 months and the basket a...Read more
fter about 18 months - given the number of coffees we make this is not unsurprising. Parts were easy to get and cheap as well. Would highly recommend the machine to anyone who wants to have cafe quality coffee in their own home.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Fantastic Machine
These are a great coffee machines that allow your inner barrista self make great coffees at home (or small office). My parents have had theirs for 3-4 years and I recently (after researching and trialling the available machines in the current market) ended up buying one for myself. Whilst I would love a beautiful shiny Italian high end machine, it's hard to justify when this machine performs well.
Good:
*Amazingly fast ready time (1 minute or so from cold)
*Consistent after establishing routine (tips at bottom)
*Easy to use
*Easy to clean
*Good looking
*Relatively light compared to other coffee machines
*Can froth the milk whilst pulling the shot simultaneously

Excellent Machine
After buying a 2nd hand EM6900 that I broke whilst learning on, I decided (with some trepidation) to get a new one - the EM7000. I'm happy to say it was a great choice:
- Excellent build quality (way better than the EM6900)
- Still working well after 3 years
- Really good extraction, consistent results
- Good steam wand pressure
- Looks great too
In my opinion Sunbeam got it right with this model!
Some points to note. ...Read more
- Don't overfill the group handle with grinds (will leak even if seal ok) - Don't excessively tighten the group handle when locking it into the group head - Do always run some steam and water through the steam wand and group head after each use - Do get a proper coffee grinder and grind on demand The first two points I learned the hard way - I overfilled the group handle on my old EM6900 and tightened it some more to stop it leaking and split the group head collar...arrrg, don't do this. Apparently the collar on the EM7000 is a stronger alloy...but still. This machine is just due for a new seal after 3 years (handle starts to move by itself occasionally under pressure). The seal is relatively expensive ($30), but reasonably easy to fit (instructions are on the net).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Needs some finesse to make good coffee
Been using for 2 months.
Heat milk to reqd temp, grind coffee, put in holder, tamp and put holder in machine, place heated milk under spouts and push cups button, add sugar. Enjoy if you are so lucky or try again and again. if not so lucky.
Seems easy but it is not that simple to get the reqd taste.
Correct grind reqd and correct tamping reqd. The dial is helpful for getting milk to the right temp. Correct tamping will also help get the pressure dial into the green area - but too light a tamp and pressure wont reach reqd green area, water fl...Read more

Great Espresso Machine
We have upgraded from a $150 Sunbeam espresso machine to the higher priced EM7000. We were always quite happy with our first Sunbeam so we were happy to stick with the brand. We've had our new machine for about 3 months and couldn't be happier. We are able to make consistently great coffee and it's so much easier to use. The machine is very user friendly and has some great features like the dual heat pump which allows you to texturize the milk at the same time as the coffee is extracting.
When we first got the machine I searched YouTube for ...Read more
some tutorials on the best way to use the machine. This gave us really valuable information and tricks on how to make a great coffee every time. It is definitely a machine for those who enjoy the process of making coffee (which we do). I also can't stress enough how important it is to use the best coffee beans available and grind it to the right consistency. We are very lucky to be able to source our beans from Hyper Hyper in Nowra, NSW. They sell organic, fair trade beans and roast them on the premises. We have read other reviews on this website regarding this machine which weren't particularly favourable. It was fairly clear to us that those people packed the coffee too firmly (or too loose), filled the basket too full (or not enough) or had the wrong grind. It's really worth persisting to find the combination of factors to get great coffee every time. We would definitely buy this same machine again.2 comments

Great if you 'Do a course' or 'Read a lot' or Get a POD machine instead!!
I won't waste my time repeating hal54's excellent comments and usage advice. This machine is not a toy or a vacuum cleaner that your just turn on and it does it's job. The fact that so many consumers can't get it to work is a testament to this machines design in letting the user set and be at the mercy of these adjustable variables. Other domestic machines use cheats that reduce or hide these variables but ultimately compromise the quality of the end product.
Coffee making has dozens of variables and every adjustment to one often requires re...Read more
calibration of many of the others. If you are not prepared to spend a fair amount of time learning about these and most importantly practicing (and failing endless times) buy a pod machine. I bought this machine "by accident". I am one of those horrible coffee snobs who loves coffee in all it's iterations including espresso and am a frequent coffee blogger. After playing with a few quality domestic machines I had decided I would never buy another coffee machine until I could afford a proper single group commercial machine or at worst the Breville BES920 and would just go out and buy coffee off some trusted professionals in the mean time or use my Aeropress/Kyocera hand grinder when necessary. Then one day I was at a warehouse sale and the EM7000 was being cleared because they accidently bought too many red ones and they decided to clear them I kid you not at $380. I could not say no and figured I could easily sell it if it disappointed like so many other domestic machines had. I paired it (as you must) with the best burr grinder I could afford and bought some freshly roasted whole beans (as you must - not optional) then proceeded to play for several weeks/months to get what is now exceptionally consistant and more and more as I get better and more in tune with the machine and grinder and it's quirks (and all machines have quirks no matter how expensive - they just get fewer and more predictable!) frequently superb god shots that make me only rarely seek coffee from elsewhere. I know for a fact a professional barista trainer is using this as a training machine, enough said......... Don't get me wrong - there are better machines if you wish to pay only $500 more and Sunbeam should not be charging more than $7-800 which is about where this machine nicely sits in the market. Unfortunately if the pricing of the new Sunbeam PU9000 Torino which is not worth $1000 more than this machine at $1999 including compulsory grinder then don't expect deep discounting off the $999 rec retail too often unless you are lucky like me!2 comments

at price - go for it! I usually show disdain for extended warranties but a quick read of the reviews of any brand of domestic coffee machine here on ieatwords and a warranty extension to 3 years total seems very wise and a good bit of insurance. Remember extended warranty prices are always negotiable and if not - go elsewhere!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Disappointed - Failed after just over 12 months usage
We've now owned 3 Sunbeam coffee makers, two were 6910 series and the latest a 7000. Our current machine's frother boiler failed a few months ago after just over a year's service, so we're looking at several hundred dollars in repairs if we decide to get it fixed. Frankly I don't think we'll bother, this model has proven to be more fickle to use than earlier models, if you get the coffee grind fresh enough, grinded, filled and tamped to perfection you get a really good expresso. But get it slightly wrong and you get a very average serve. We...Read more
're particularly angry that when we bought the machine there was an offer for a free barista course. We tried to register for it, but it wouldn't accept the serial number of either the new or old machines. There is no phone number you can ring, just an email address, we sent off two emails but got no response, surprise surprise, a gimmick to get you to buy with no way of actually getting on the course. Our earlier machines lasted about 2 1/2 years each but our previous one need hundreds of dollars worth of repairs as well. We won't be buying another Sunbeam machine.Similar opinion? An Excellent Home Machine
My Sunbeam EM6910 started playing up after 5+ years of hard use. Compared to the 6910 the finish and manufacturing quality is a noticeable improvement. The drip tray is far better than the 6910 and while not perfect, complaints about it are nits. The gauge for milk temperature takes getting used to and some call it a gimmick, but it serves the purpose and my frothing has improved from "very good" to "sometimes cafe excellent" ;) The pressure gauge is better than the 6910 by position and reliability. The only negative is the 7000 portafilt...Read more
er almost always has major drips when removed, while the 6910 rarely did. I attribute this to the interior design of the 7000 portafilter making puddling easier. It took the portafilter seal a few months to fully "bed in". The 7000 has a very large reservoir - it is easy to fill but takes some practice not to slosh water about if it is filled near the max. When the fill light comes on it is difficult to miss, and there is still about 1 litre of water left. You need a proper grinder and good quality beans. There have been promotions including a free Sunbeam EM0480, which is under-rated for most home users. I found the EM0480 pretty good once I got used to the general sloppiness of the setting mechanism (used one for 6 years); I recently upgraded to a small commercial quality grinder just because I could, but in retrospect that was a waste of money. The 7000 does not come with pressurized (double wall) baskets but they are available from Sunbeam. One only needs those for poor quality or old and dry coffee beans, if you do not have a proper grinder (a chopper is not a grinder!), if you buy ground coffee at the supermarket, or if you are not adept at filling and tamping the ground coffee. Makes good coffee, quick startup, decent frother, seems well made Portafiler dripping when removed1 comment

n the machine. I found all the water passages in the centre distribution fitting in the head (under the shower screen) were clogged and what water was flowing was being forced out between the shower screen screw threads. It was coincidental the water flow closed when I replaced the seal. This in spite of a regular 3 mos cleaning regimen. Just something for owners to consider removing and cleaning annually, not just relying on the automatic cleaning cycle and cleaning tabs.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hi, I have a repeating issue when I run the cleaning cycle with the tablet in the group head. Dirty water leaks out from underneath the machine and the container I place under the group head to catch the water from the cleaning cycle hardly fills, maybe 1cm deep max. What's happening here please!

Sounds like a pressure leak
If its under warranty- id be callimg sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi Vic. What you are describing is perfectly normal for the group head cleaning cycle. Minimal water should come out through the group head as the majority of the water gets flushed back through the group head and is expelled into the drip tray through the dump valve. So at the end of the cycle, your drip tray should be pretty full with water and there shouldn't be much in the container you have under the group head.

Thermal block might be malfunctioning. The unit's still under warranty; go and get Sunbeam to sort it.
