I can not answer the question about "as a blender" but I add Walnuts as well as Pecan nuts to my pumpkin soup and it adds an " over the top Gorgeous " flavor to the soup.

Can you put raw meat into the soup & co or does it need to be cooked first?

You can put raw meat into the cooker Natty, I'm looking at a recipe for "Lamb Curry" in Tefal's Soup & Co cook book. where you put in 400g of lamb.

Simon j
Simon j

Yes just follow the particular recipe and add the meat as prescribed. It may be cooked or raw, depending on the recipe, but if the latter obviously you need to allow sufficient time for it to cook . I haven't done the lamb recipe yet but I have the Tom yum with raw chicken and it turned out just fine.

Can I put the vegetables in
Without chopping them up
& can I make fresh juice ?

2 answers

I think not. The manual states to cube or cut vegetables then add liquid. I never chop them small.. I make nothing but fresh juice. Into the blender goes a combination of any fruit / and / or vegetables I want whether it be berries, apples, pears, citrus, kiwi, mango, avocado, shoots, baby spinach, lettuce - whatever I have. Always I add some liquid. Mostly this is another juice but sometimes it has been water. Remember, because it is a blender the juice may be thick. The pulp is not separated from the juice. It is blended with it. Your drink can be thinned by adding more of your own liquid. Basically, I recommend putting in either your vegetables or fruit then ALWAYS adding liquid, and enjoy experimenting

HI, you would only be able to make a smoothie - not juice - as it doesn't remove the fibre. I usually peel the fruit and with apples remove the core but otherwise everything goes in chunky. Frozen fruit works great.
Have fun

when i turn it on it shows err and the red light flashes ?

1 answer

In my manual it states if the ERR message shows and the red indicator light is flashing, it means the heating element does not work, and the manual suggests contacting the Customer Relations Helpline. There is one at GROUPE SEB AUSTRALIA, PO Box 7535, Silverwater, NSW, 2128. Phone: 02 9748 7944. Fortunately for me, this has not yet happened - despite daily use.

Hi,

I have been thinking of buying the Tefal Soup Soup & Co. in time for this summer. After reading all the reviews here, judging by the looks of things all the rave seems to be that it is quite a good gadget for soups. However, what I am more interested in is the ice crushing function/feature of the machine whether it is powerful enough to turn ice into slurpee looking or perhaps into snow cones. Can anyone tell me if they tried the ice crush function and let me know if it crushes the ice to a reasonable size and whether you can add fruit in with the ice to make it drinkable that the ice are not clunky?

3 answers

sanja

HI, I suppose if you let it run long enough it could do that.
It certainly makes good smoothies, but not with heaps of ice - just frozen fruit.

The ice crushing is good enough to make a cocktail, but not sure if it makes shaved-type ice.

Look I have only used once with Ice but seemed OK but the the soup making side overcomes it?

I had not used this facility, so gave it a go just now. By placing 6 cubes in the blender and pressing ICE for a second or two, the cubes became various sizes of chunks. I did that three times and most bits are the size of a small finger nail. ???? You have the choice of how small you want the bits by trial and error, as I did. Just like any blended item, there are various sizes of texture within the mix. I then added blueberries and rasberries and BLENDED rather than ICED all together. The result was just like ice cold fruity drink.

Have tefal improved the strength of the blades on their soup & co product?

2 answers

As this is my first Soup n Co, and my research prior to purchase did not indicate any problems with the blades, I'm unable to answer this. All I can say, is that to date, with daily use, there is absolutely nothing which would deter me from purchasing another.

Hi, Not sure as this also my first soup and co. Mine 'chews' through ice in smoothies and I have never had a problem with it. Not sure what 'hard' stuff you would put in it beside ice.
I love it and use it just about everyday for something (PS making dips is great when you are making large quantities for parties.)

love my soup & co but would like to know if it is possible to download more recipes off the net as the recipe book provided is very limited

2 answers

In complete agreement - the recipe booklet is limiting, and like you, love my soup & co. I have, by trial and error, downloaded a few recipes from the net, and made a few of my own using what is in the fridge & pantry. Cubing the vegetables is carried out beforehand just as detailed in the recipe book. Quantity seems to be the main difference between a LARGE pan made soup verses the soup & co. Use less for the soup & co. As I make a soup, I write the ingredients down, then if we like it, I save the recipe. Equally, if it is not suitable, it is not made again. I have made cauliflower and leek, & a sweet tasting soup using parsnips, sweet potatoe, pumpkiin and honey, also made a vegetable soup, then added last nights meat leftovers. A change of flavour can be done by adding a manufactured sweet cillie sauce or another alternative. Using the blender only, blend a previously made casserole into a soup, adding more stock if desired. Hope this is encouraging and good luck

I've just bought the Soup&Co and have made soup once and juice twice. I like the way it works and it seems robust but obviously it is early days. I was wondering if the lid gasket has been lasting okay for everyone? Food matter has consistently been making it's way behind the gasket and so I've been removing it to clean. I am thinking that this makes the gasket prone to tearing.

If I understand your question properly re the food gasket, the instructions say take apart the top and wash the lot carefully. Actually I take out the plastic inside bit in the top, swirl the lot in washing up water, and hey presto..... Clean. I am amazed how strong the whole thing is, especially the top parts, compared to my previous blenders. Hope that answers your question?

We have only had ours for a couple of months but no issues with anything so far.

Thank you for your answers. I understand about removing the inner lid for cleaning but that isn't what makes me worry. It is the grey rubber seal on the inner lid. The slot that the seal is inserted in is prone to trapping fine bits of ground up food. This seal is relatively easy to remove but doing it too much will undoubtedly cause it to eventually tear.

There is no perfect thing in this world, but if you buy one of these products you will never regret, for the price, capability and reliability.
As I said in my first review, It also depends how you use it, If you need one for your own kitchen, this is the best I can recommend. But if you are looking for business usage then get a powerful blender. I bought my Tefal Soup & Co last year and I'm using it almost everyday, until this moment this unit still work like brand you. I just keep it clean after using... Good luck

Thanks Kiarmu, I've bought this soup maker, and I love it, I'm using it everyday, so, it's continually on my kitchen bench, I refuse to put it away. All I need is, a good recipe site. I do use the book, but I saw where someone made mashed potatoes with it, and do you think I can find any Tefal recipes, not on your Nellie...thanks so much for your great reply.

Use ours a lot in cooler weather. Have made soups from the recipe book, but make a lot of 'crisper drawer' soup, i.e. whatever is in the fridge. Just did some now, various veggies, a small potato, pinch of oregano, fresh ground black pepper, dash of apple cider vinegar and water. 25 mins later, nutritious soup after a lunch out today. We travel a lot, so leftover veggies go through the soup maker, freeze and we have something with vegetable when we get back, until we can hit the fresh markets. Even made soup with left over lettuce, tomato, capsicum, onion - salad soup - it tasted really good. Would never purchase canned or ready made soups now, as we can control what goes into the recipe, no numbers or nasties, less or no salt, just use other herbs. Had mine for three years now. Have acquired a Kitchen Aid cook processor since but not made soup in it, as many of these gadgets have a number of steps, whereas the Tefal is drop everything in, go away, do something else, and it even keeps in warm for 40 or so minutes. Love it.

Does this appliance stir as it cooks like the thermonuclear does? I would like to make daal, lentil soup.. And am concerned that the mixture might stick and burn.

Hi Ak, It actually "Blends" at the very end of the cycle. Two modes, either Chunky or smooth. The chunky isn't really chunky though.
Unless you want it blended, it may pay to turn it off before the cycle ends. As far as sticking goes, I believe the cheaper models can stick,
but I haven't had any trouble with anything sticker in mine yet. But I've only used vegetables too. Cheers.

I too have only made soup but I must say that when making a chunky soup I don't blend I find that if diced the chunky consistency in ok without blending so I just stop the cooker just before or as it begins to blend. It is the only soup cooker that cooks the meat from raw all the others suggest browning or using precooked meat. I still love my Tefal. Too find out the answer to your question I am sure you could call the company but I feel they will say NO. Bev

I can't see any difference between the two. My guess is one in an imported model (BL9001) and the other is the one that is selling in Australia. The 900 is made in France. You can check which country make the 9001

bev78757

I have not got any idea about the 2 different model no. but I would say that it will just be the newer model and truly I am thrilled with the model I have. I have been using mine every week since Easter. The only thing I will say that if you want chunky soup I would still press P2 but stop the process before the blender starts. I just made sure that the ingredients were diced small for the chunky soup but still did the 35 mins cook time. I love this product.

I have not tried the machine with a smoothie but I was in Melb when the soup and co was released and we sampled a smoothie and it was yummo. I think if you buy one that is currently $269 with a $50 cashback to be redeemed on line. Enjoy the unit I have.
