Completely reliable
As always when you buy Toyota you buy quality. I have never had an issue with my Camry and it’s still going strong with 400k kms. My only regret is I never purchased a hybrid.
Purchased in February 2021 at Toyota Dealers for $26,900.00.

Toyota, hang your head in shame
Our Atara S was our third Camry having previously owned a 2005 Camry Altise and still own a 2007 Camry Sportivo (which has been fantastic). Our Atara S was inferior to the previous model: the auto used to always be hunting up and down even if driving at constant speed, the diff clunked like an old Commodore whenever downshifting and the fuel 'economy' was terrible (couldn't even get 10lt per 100km on the highway and drank 13-15lt per 100km around town - my brothers V8 SS Commodore was better than this. Then there were the build quality issues: ...Read more
dashboard made a constant wrinkly-plasticy kind of rattle right across the firewall. After constant visits to the dealership over the period of warranty Toyota couldn't come up with a fix and we ended up having to involve Consumer Affairs, and even then they couldn't fix it. Had ongoing problems with the keyless entry system and the last straw was the steering wheel and brake pedal locking up resulting in the car needing towing. Had the Atara for 3 years and never had an opportunity to enjoy it as we were constantly taking it back to the dealership and in the end couldn't get rid of it quick enough. Based on the poor build quality and Toyota Australia's dismissive attitude towards the cars issues will never buy another Toyota.

Great car
I'm a Toyota man. So is my family, both here in OZ and overseas. For 25 years we have been a two four wheel drive family but when I retired my wife wanted a Camry. I was looking at upgrading my 100 series cruiser of Friday but the next day we bought a demo Camry. I like the look and feel and love the fact that it is front wheel drive. Economy is just under 10 litres/100 for normal suburban driving. It rides well and is very peppy. What I don't like is that I have to climb down to get into the vehicle. At my age it's easier to climb up than do...Read more
wn. Not a problem with the car but something to consider. We have a bucket load of grandkids so the three hooks for car seats is great. The boot is very big... This version does not come with sat nav which I believe is very useful. The backup camera and sensors are very handy also. We've only had it serviced once and because it's still under warranty it's fixed price around $280/service. Personally I think that;s a little steep for changing oil and just looking at things but thems the breaks. Overall I am very happy with our purchase.Similar opinion? Maybe the best product we ever made in Australia
I bought the Camry for my 21 y.o. son. He will never drive it himself, care workers mainly drive him around, but he needs independence as far as possible. We live in a rural 'commuter' area with 110km speed limits and he is a large man 190 cm so we needed a combination of safety, interior space, on-highway drivability, and low running costs. A car that would survive a multitude of drivers, with no quirky habits, and with copious rear leg-room.
The Camry was 1 YO and had ~160,000 km on the odometer having been a 'Community Car' with th...Read more
e local council, and since Sep '17 we have added another ~30,000 km. But you wouldn't know it driving the car, it still feels brand new. It returns excellent fuel economy, has 15,000 service interval, and you can buy tyres in known brands for <$140 a corner...even though he rides in style on 17" alloys. In my opinion, the build quality is as good as our MIJ cars, and better than the previous AU and EU made ones we've owned. Nothing has broken, fallen off, failed, leaked or flaked. The paint job is spot-on (apart from driver-induced blemishes) and there are no squeaks or rattles. Oil consumption over the last 17,000 km was maybe 250-300ml. It runs perfectly on 91 ULP and I anticipate that it will continue to do so for a very long time. The Atara S is a great spec, with low noise, supple ride, split climate control, inbuilt antennae, DLR lights, leather look steering wheel, electric seat, blue-teeth, reversing camera, and 5 speed auto w/- paddle shifters, keyless entry and starting, and beeps at you if you've got out but left the selector in 'N' and not 'P', a million airbags, and electric everything, etc. One possible negative is the USA style parking brake...which seems not to have caused any problems, maybe that's because there's a warning buzzer if you drive off without properly releasing it (the voice of experience...). Awesome all-round car. I think its a shame the local production ended.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Atara S- Nice and safe car to drive with family
Most reliable Australian car backed up with toyota advantage. Safe 5 star for family. Excellent pick up just little bit of downside is /liter petrol mileage is not good if driving short distance. Otherwise tick all boxes. At current price its bargain to have all extra features like push start...electric seat adjustment etc.

Hybrid Motion
Hybrid motoring with Toyota is fuel efficient, takeoff at the lights is quiet, acceleration draws on the electric motor in the mix. Atara S Hybrid can comfortably do over 1000 Kilometers on a full tank of fuel averaging 5.2 Litres per 100 Kilometers. But I wish it had 19" wheels.

Great family car.
Julian from Toyota Pennant Hills was really helpful and accommodating. He explained well the features and what we expect to get from the purchase..no time wasted.

Not an oh what a feeling
I purchased a toyota camry altera s at the end of feburary this year. This was a dec 2016 model.
As the sales client was adding that one of the attractions for this model was toyota link assist.
I decided last week to investigate as i was taking my family on a road trip. This feature meant i could listen to pandora or or other things via the smart phone through the system.
Downlaoded the app on the phone. Many disgruntled users on the review. When i downloaded the app...just could not sync. Read further on the web and established al...Read more
ot of people having the same problem. Then researched further on toyotas website to find out toyota link will not be available from november 2016..last year...something the sales rep failed to disclose. Also said phones compatiable were older android or iphones...i.e s3 or s4.wow... Rung toyota care. Spoke to a robot who kept on saying the website was down. Said nothing to do with that but needed to update the app. Then spoke to toyota service who said he had no knowledge of incidents...only to look on the web and say oh... Excellent! apart from uncomfortable ride, and crappy touch screen
Ok everyone knows these cars are awesome. No doubt about it.
My complaint is the 17" standard wheels that come with the Atara S, and it makes for a pretty hard ride.
My other whinge is the entertainment/info system ... there is a great big touch screen ... and it is kinda useful but not really ... I think my expectations are out of kilter with the entire car industry though. I build software for a living, and I know how easy it would be to make the MP3 player really great, or to provide some really interesting trip info. I guess I just wanted them to put android in it and make it customisable. We're so used to smartphones now, and the car apps seem like they are 10 years out of date.

Beautiful car - Wonderful dealership
I got what I am sure must have been the best deal possible on a near-new (200Kms) Camry from Maitland Toyota. If you are looking for a Toyota I highly commend this dealership. Lovely people and best deal I have seen anywhere. The Camry hybrid is impressive from every point of view - comfort, economy, build and such a joy to drive. Roomy, powerful and at around (sometimes a little more) 6 Km/100L, fuel-efficient.

satisfying I have ever owned. The petrol/electric combination is smooth, quiet, powerful and fuel efficient. I'm no rally driver but I find nothing in the handling I could criticise. In the 18 months I've been driving this car I've never known it to have anything but what seems like a tenacious grip on the road. Cruise control is easy to initiate/cancel. It has a roomy and comfortable interior with plenty of storage space front and back. The dashboard display presents the driver with information including trip distance, elapsed time from start, average fuel consumption, charge stored in the hybrid battery and an interesting graphic showing the hybrid system's energy flow direction at every moment. The efficiency with which the hybrid system captures and recycles the vehicle's kinetic energy when braking is truly impressive. The disc brakes seem hardly to be used and are usually cool to the touch at the end of any trip. The electronics are impressive with features like keyless entry and convenient steering wheel controls for car audio and phone. I especially find the voice command for phone operation works well (mostly) and very convenient, making call initiation and answer possible whilst driving and without compromising safety. There are independent front seat controls for air conditioning. The hybrid battery takes some of the boot space but there is plenty remaining. I particularly like the electric control of the driver's seat. If I could ask Toyota one question about the design of this car it would be to explain why they supplied a backseat pocket to one seat only. Otherwise, I cannot think of a single negative. I highly commend this car.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Comfortable, reliable, cheap to service and the new model actually looks good!
Handling is much improved over earlier versions and the brakes are excellent. The automatic is smooth, noise levels are moderate and the ride is compliant. A large boot and spacious cabin make this a good family car with room to seat 3 teenagers in the rear seat without squishing them. Recommended as a good family sedan. Pricing for a large(ish) sedan is excellent and Camry represents excellent value for money.

Atara S Hybrid - Oh What a Feeling!!
Picked up my new 2015 Camry Atara S Hybrid yesterday so have only driven 200km so far but initial impressions are that it's very refined and powerful.
I live in the mountains behind the Gold Coast so the big test for any of my cars is how they handle the steep winding road. The Atara S Hybrid has more than enough power to easily tackle it and is stable and sure footed around the bends. My previous 2011 Camry was the petrol version and always struggled slightly and protested loudly on the steep climbs. The hybrid has no trouble at all and s...Read more
till has plenty of power in reserve. It feels similar to a previous turbocharged European car I used to own. The Atara S Hybrid is very quiet with no noise at all coming from the transmission or through the windscreen or firewall - the engine can only be heard as a muted growl through the side windows. The sound deadening in this car is amazing. It is whisper quiet. So far my fuel consumption is averaging 6.1 l/100 km but I expect that to drop once the engine has loosened up a bit and I am used to driving the car more efficiently. The "EV" light that illuminates on the instrument panel when the petrol engine is shut down helps with keeping economy in the sweet spot as does the energy monitor display that shows when the car is using petrol, electric or both sources of propulsion. I have read in forums that the trick is to get up to cruising speed then lift off the accelerator, which causes the car to drop into "EV" mode. Light pressure on the accelerator will then keep the car cruising along at speeds up to about 75kmh under electric power until either more power to drive the wheels or more charge to the battery is required, at which point the petrol engine cuts in. Have tried it a few times and found it quite easy to keep the car gliding along under electric power for about 1km on a couple of occasions. The cabin is very spacious and comfortable, with large supportive seats, firmer than my previous camry but not with the feeling that they are made from timber covered in fabric like my sister's Ford Mondeo or my previous VW Jetta. The sound system is very good - a huge leap forward from the 2011 camry in terms of sound quality and very easy to operate with the voice control and touchscreen. Likewise the hands free phone system is a huge leap forward, being very simple to use with either voice commands or touchscreen and it imports your contacts from the phone, without the need to program the car's head unit as you had to in the 2011 camry.2 comments
