Hey I recently bought a 1995 hiace
I’m wanting to remove the windows on the passenger and drivers side rear and replace them to panels
Has anyone does this before and can you just get them out of a wrecked van?
I’ve looked at a few photos inside and outside and they seem to be fixed to the body and not removable like the Mazda e serious and Ford vans

Thanks Josh

I have a 2003 Hiace Commuter Bus which we have been chasing a rear axle oil leak for years. It turns out that the axle race is sliding sideways in the outer bearing carrier, thus allowing the oil seal to come clear of the inner sealing ring. This movement is around 3 to 4mm. This vehicle is fitted with ABS, but that shouldn't make any difference.

My question is, is the end of the Differential housing supposed to be holding the outer flange of the axle race tight against the bearing carrier? Or is there an amount of freedom for the axle to move in and out?

In all other applications I have been used to, as in cars, the outer ring of the bearing has always been held tight against the diff tube.

Further, I can see where the outer ring of the bearing has been spinning within the bearing holder.

Thanks,

Bruce Reynolds

I have just recently bought a toyota hiace turbo diesel 2011. i am wondering whether I need to let the engine cool down before switching it off after I have been driving over 80kms an hour? I have heard that some of the older models need to be cooled down before switching off and wasnt sure whether the 2011 still needed this to happen.
Thanks.

I just bought a 2004 Hiace high roof campervan (ex rental prior to the previous owner owner buying it 18 months ago)
2.4 litre petrol, 5 speed manual... 716,000km on it and still running well.
It whines a little in 5th gear under load, and is showing some sign of needing a new seal on the oil filler cap as it allows a little oil on to the rocker cover.. but still pulls well.
Never mind the Hilux utes being unbreakable, I think the Hiace earns that honour even more.

I drive for a small company that has about 15 of them and my current one has 750,000km and no major work has been done - a bit of panel beating but that was not the vans fault. They do last.

Hi Everybody,

I am after arriving in Australia and am looking to purchase a Toyota Hiace either already converted into a basic camper or to convert into a camper myself to work and tour a lot of Australia out of. I am not a mechanic and don't really know too much about what to get so I will just give you all of my criteria and any feedback or recommendations would be very very much appreciated!!

1. I am 6ft 4 inches tall, should I get a lwb or swb, high tops seem to be out of my budget unfortunately
2. My budget would be $7500 AUD for the whole thing so for example $7500 for a van already fitted out as a camper or $3000 for a plain van and $4500 left over for a conversion I will do myself!!
3. Some things I will be putting in it include solar panels, invertor, extra battery, fridge (to keep my medicines cool), some sort of basic sink set up with jerry cans and a grey water jerry can, a bed and some small storage
4. What fuel type should I get? Petrol, Diesel or the mixed fuel system on some of them?
5. How many kms is too much for a petrol, diesel and mixed fuel van? It seems diesels last far longer but are more expensive to fix when something goes wrong and visa versa for petrol engines
6. Are there and particular models or years of vans I should avoid? I was told by someone to stay below the year 2002 when buying them?
7. Are there any problems that occur specifically to Toyota Hiaces vans that I should be aware of when looking at them? I have noticed they all seem to have a bit of rust around the windows and on the door frames

Thats all I can think of for the moment, I really appreciate if you read all of this and have any feedback!!
