Overrated and Underpowered
This was a disappointing experience as I was really excited to save and get my first hilux, the problem started as soon as I picked it up with the tail shaft bump issue. Toyota should have the moral decency to sell new cars with known faults the vehicle had to be returned multiple times for tailshaft spline shaving and eventual replacement, next is vibrations from plastic in dash at around 2000 revs when cold, very annoying eventually repaired after two visits, third was the tub hard lid that didn’t lock or gets jammed so you can’t open by this...Read more
time I was so disappointed I said replace it with a canopy which was badly installed by the dealership the final straw was towing a 2.3 tonne van even using a WDH I would not recommend towing more than two tonne with the new hilux there was little power in reserve, felt like the torque range was tiny when at speed on hwy. In the end just sold it and bought a nissan patrol y62 and haven’t looked back. I think these reviews done by 4x4 mags and motoring magazines are really biased to giving Toyota favourable reviews at the cost of the consumer.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

My new office
I started up a mobile business and recently bought a hilux to set it all up. So far so good. Impressed with the cabin size. It is quite roomy and has enough leg rooms. I got the diesel run one and runs smooth, no noise issue. The only missing thing in it at the moment is having no reverse camera. It should worth the investment once I have it installed. It fits in my garage with one other car.

Good but no guts
We find our Toyota hilux to be quite and smooth ride around town and on long trips, it gets decent mileage and seems reliable enough. Lots of room in the cabin except the is not much head room in the back seat which can cause for a need for more breaks so the back passengers can stretch.

Magnificent Hilux !!
This Hilux is magnificent, traded the Hilux 2014, got the 2017 SR+, more refined vehicle, excellent fuel economy currently getting 9.8 per 100 and I have only travelled 1200km, so more than happy with that. Unfortunately its fitted with DPF but so are all the brands now after Sept 2016, something we all have to get used to and know what is required, its the euro 5 requirements unfortunately. However when vehicles come out of warranty and the DPF is buggered, the cost of these things are off the planet, so something has to be done with that, in saying that, if the DPF is buggered, remember its a symptom of another problem that has caused it to go !

new hilux
We have many at work fifo mining the problem is the DPF filter we have a max speed at the mine site of 60km so because they do not get up to highway speeds they do not burn off the DPF and keep going into limp mode so if you are in the city and don't get out and hit the 80 to 100km mark for a good stint, the DPF doesn't burn off, it's a problem real problem and if you need a new DPF be ready to pat thousands once warranty is over, thats why there giving the SR5 away at the moment as people are waking up, don't get me wrong there all going south...Read more
with emission controls and electronics giving problems. Until they do something if you don't get out of town enough and have a decent 45min run you will have problems and we have a fleet of 30 plus new hiluxs here and all doing he same, most are driven at 40 to 50kmh max all day, there talking about bypassing them theres already aftermarket kits but be careful not to void your warranty and make you vehicle not road worthy.Similar opinion? wonderful car for working and life
Toyota has a great reputation for being reliable and tuff. This Hilux is a very strong motor. Easy to handle/drive, even my gf enjoys the driving very much. Not too loud noise either. I do love the interior design. Off-road testing ultimately comes down to a tyre test by an impressive armada of technology

My 2017 Toyota Hilux Automatic Workmate is fine - but the expensive Toyota extras???
In October this year I updated my 2014 Toyota Hilux Automatic Workmate to the brand new 2017 model.
The cabin is a lot more sophisticated than its predecessor with improved creature comforts - durable fabric upholstery, unexpected small storage areas (as there are only 2 seats and the cabin size limited), instrumentation is better and more comprehensive with a larger touch screen that can show additional features regarding the vehicle's performance. The air conditioning system works very well as it only has a relatively small cabin to cool.

My first ute
I brought my first ute ever as too a diesel and automatic in August this year and would have given a full 5 star if the suspension was more sorted as the ride over average roads is bad and forget any form of comfort over poor or unsealed roads. As I'll be towing a tandem 2 ton trailer soon this may yet be a blessing having the heavier suspension.
The engine was a letdown at first being gutless and thirsty but it needed to bed in and now is more responsive and can get into the high 7's on highway and high 8's mixed and still improving after 7...Read more
000km now The auto sometimes can't make up its mind about first and second when slowing for a corner as it can feel like it's in neutral at these times but otherwise I can't complain about it. Noted too is a slight drivetrain grumble in 6th between 1200 to 1600 rpm but I wouldn't call that a fault either it is a 4 cylinder after all. The DFP smelt at first when doing its thing but so far I've had no issues with it. I've saw another Hilux putting out white smoke a few weeks back which would indicate a faulty DPF, I hope to avoid any issues and judging by other comments here I'll be more worried about it when the warranty expires. My other issues have beenSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Auto diesel SR5 dual cab; A huge let down
This is a vehicle that looks good inside and out and is quite comfortable but is more of a show pony than a serious 4x4. If you want an around towner with the ability to do some basic offroad at the weekend then OK.
I bought this new and in the first three weeks I had a problem and had to nag the dealer (no fault found a few times) and finally they found a tailshaft problem that was a known and substantial fault for some same model Hilux's (so maybe should have picked up in pre-delivery!!??). Also had a problem with the tailgate. So much for...Read more

New Workmate has become civilised
The 2017 Hilux Workmate has changed and has become more civil on the interior. It now comes with soft touch surfaces on the door's and a great well thought out dash with 2 glove compartments both top and bottom. With this a sunglass compartment in the roof. The vehicle comes with Bluetooth and full touch screen radio with connections which is about time, Power windows, new steering wheel with controls for blue tooth, Radio and other technology. Build quality is tough if not better and ride is not as harsh as previous generations. The shift feel...Read more
on the manual gearbox is good with a shorter shifter and a light clutch. The engine is quieter and not as thirsty as previous. The seating to me seemed higher than before with more seat bolster but it does the job with legroom being just enough for taller persons like myself. Terrific trade ute with affordable servicing capped and Toyota Reliability. Oh and it now has daytime running light'sSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

2.8L Diesel Duel Cab Manual Hilux SR 2015
I love this car despite the reality that the finance is a little more than I should have reached for. So far it has been extremely fuel efficient at 9L per 100km average and 7.7L at best after 11,000km. The inside is comfortable and modern without going over the top with bells and whistles. Feels like I am driving a standard modern sedan in ute form.
Good

>The transmission
>Responsive engine
>Fuel efficiency
>Very confident off road and has more height underneath than it looks
>Looks extremely sleek and aggressive with the Toyota bullbar and snorkel fitted.
>Handles quite nicely

Most reliable
It’s the best looking most powerful and most technology hilux yet. The safety has also improved with extra airbags. As soon as I drive this new hilux I noticed it was not only a lot quieter then the previous model but also more powerful. The motor revs a lot less. Toyota has a great reputation for being reliable and tuff, with 50k on the clock I haven’t had a issue yet. (My mate bought a ford ranger has had a heap of problems).

Hilux 2.8L Diesel - constantly breaking down - DPF Faults
The ute is nothing to be super happy about as far as comfort or room I'm 194cm tall and room is only just acceptable as the driver, it is terrible for the rear passengers, if your in the back on country roads then I pity you as you are in for a rough ride. My biggest problem with this ute is the engine warning lights and the car being locked down to a limp mode. I believe it is an issue with the DPF. I can't drive 100km without the DPF lights coming on. if you overtake I think its related to high engine revs, anything over 3300 rmp. I have disc...Read more
onnected the battery to reset this fault at least 50 times. It is my work and personal car, the car does a lot of idling and low speeds around my work site without issue. it is when on the highway when higher speeds (100km/hr) are occurring that its likely the fault appears. Ive gotten better at managing the fault (feathering the accelerator and not going too hard on the throttle) hows that possible you ask on an already underpowered vehicle..... anyway... don't buy a Hilux 2.8L if your going to be doing a lot of low speeds and or idling to clog the DPF, I have had the DPF replaced, 4 times to Toyota for repairs, multiple "forced burns" at the service agent (not Toyota) and also the ECU update from Toyota to "fix the problem"....so Toyota is say to you... it didn't work!!! On another note, I have a 2.8L Prado that has never given me an issue it has been predominantly driven on the highway 40,000 km and is a great car... Same engine yet one is a dud. So if its your work car don't buy it, if its your private car, when it happens to you, get a DPF delete kit and don't have the problem anymore....Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good solid performer.
Ride is a bit rough as it needs some weight on tray. The tool boxes with tools will solve yhis plus some time to soften suspension. Good interior however as it is tradie car could do with less material inserts. Totally reliable, a bit heavy on fuel. Definitely need a rear camera installed for reversing in tight spots.

Fuel guzzler
Bought the new hilux three months ago and am yet to get more than 450kms out of an entire tank.
Spoke to toyota and they said the car should get 750-800kms if driving on freeways, (which i am) but seeing that i have a bull bar and tray that would be the issue, really 350kms difference?
The next advice was to run the car until it ran out of fuel completely because the fuel light comes on early, which i thought was hilarious.
Car also feels like it lacks power when taking off, as if the gear ratio in the auto isn’t correct.
Also any slight we...Read more

15000km, plagued with problems
DPF failure at 15000km, gearbox issues at 12000km (would not change to 6th), horrible fuel economy & too underpowered to tow. Struggles to get 400km to a tank of fuel unloaded, Also having issues with aircon not keeping cool, and the "iPad" plonked in the dash keeps resetting itself. Luckily a work vehicle, would not buy one..

Here come multiple problems
I loved my first ever hilux until this week. My DPB was burning for 3 days straight so I called the service department to ask why? Answer = Not sure, crap! Booked it in with over a weeks waiting time. The next day after speaking with a DPF expert I drove it in and asked for it to be fixed immediately. Dealer did a regeneration on it and now it works fine but the DPB is a factory fault and will do it again in time. I was told I should be doing more HWY driving (excuse me WTH). 23000 klms
My fuel tank as others tells me I’m empty while there is...Read more
