Earl Grey Tea has changed flavour
My last purchase of Earl Grey tea ( 3rd Sept 2022) has brown labels and tasted horrible. Nothing like the Earl Grey I know and have purchased for years. What has happened?
Purchased in September 2021 at Woolworths.

Can't live without it, something to think about.
A September 2022 description is on the box, LIGHT STRENGTH ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Trust Twining's tea tasters. That packet description is accurate, so we must assume, the benchmark for the Australian blend has been altered dramatically to suit certain tea lovers.
Mourning the loss of “A sound tea base, bright and brisk, comes through well in balance with the bergamot and lemon.”
The United Kingdom appears to have the original in 2022, the image included as an example.
Purchased in September 2021 for A$5.50.

Earl Grey tea bags changed
I have also been buying Twinings Earl Grey tea bags at Woolworths for many years. Last week I found that the bags have brown labels and taste nothing like the bergamot flavour Earl Grey. Won't be rebuying.

Where’s the bergamot flavour gone
What’s happened to Twinings Earle Grey teabags. First indication of change was brown tags on the bags.
More importantly where’s the bergamot flavour gone.
Very disappointing taste.
Will have to change to another brand after so many years.
Purchased in July 2021.

Why has the taste been changed
The taste has changed completely. Not pleasant at all. It was the only tea I used to buy but now I will be looking for a new brand as I am not enjoying drinking this at all.

Twinings Earl Grey is no longer Earl Grey - What Is It?
I have purchased Twinings Earl Grey teabags for years. Last box had brown tags, not usual earl grey. Dark in colour with mushroomy flavour. No bergamot flavour, light colour typical of earl grey. Undrinkable
October 1st 2022 Update: Contact Earl Grey 1800 092 889 for refund
Hi everyone. Regarding Earl Grey Teabags, I contacted Twinings and was reimbursed via Woolworths Card for money lost on purchasing undrinkable tea. According to Twinings, there has been a problem at the ' China supply/supplier end.' I was told that when this is sorted ...Read more
the twinings tea as we all know and love will be re-instated ( the person I spoke with said they will send an email letting me know when that happens . . and I can use the card to purchase replacements). That was 20 plus days ago and so I assume the tea is still terrible as indicated by all your comments and no email as yet. So . . not feeling too confident at this stage. Why Twinings has chosen not to pull its teas off shelves or make a public statement when all this mess is only doing them harm is interesting. I guess the've done the maths! Twinings Number again: 1800 092 889. PS They were very polite and helpful but not the least bit surprised by my call, so clearly I'm not the only complainant they've had about those brown tagged teas.Purchased in August 2021 at Woolworths Physical store for A$5.50.

Wrong teabags in the box
Just opened a new box of 100 Twining earl Grey teabags...the tags are brown and definitely not Earl Grey!!! I bought them from my local Woolworths supermarket. What is going on?

Unhappy Twinings Earl Grey Teabag customer
I bought 2 boxes of Twinings 100 Earl Grey tea bags because they were on sale at my local supermarket and extremely disappointed as the tea tastes terrible. I have been drinking Earl Grey for many years and I just want the great flavour back - not this awful replacement with the brown label that doesn't even show that it's Earl Grey. I won't be purchasing Twinings again and now stuck with 200 tasteless teabags - not happy!!
Purchased in August 2021 at Woolworths for A$11.00.

changed flavour and color of tags
I bought a box of 100 Earl Grey tea bags and the tea tastes terrible. I have been drinking Earl Grey for 20 years and I miss the great flavour of the bergamot and citrus.
The labels are brown with no writing on them - please bring back my tea !!
Purchased for A$11.00.

Change for the sake of change.....not an improvement.
I don't drink Twinings Earl Grey tea but others in my family do. The last box of tea bags I bought has BROWN tags - not the easily identifiable Yellow, and there is no name on them to identify the type of tea once it is out of it's box. With multiple types of tea available and many homes having several types in the cupboard this change is confusing and basically very bad marketing.... I will be changing brands just so I can know which tea is which. The ongoing movement by manufacturers and producers in general to change for the sake of change rather than for improvement is disrespectful to their loyal costumers. There is a very old adage that is worth heeding..."if it's not broke, don't fix it".....

One leaf tea is weak and flavourless
I absolutely agree! I miss the two leaf Earl Grey tea very much. Can’t find it anywhere in Australia anymore. Went to France recently and ended up bringing a few boxes home.

Twinings Earl Grey Loose leaf tea
my latest box tastes different, the size of the "leaf" almost powder. Almost no bergamot flavour. I object that it is the only loose leaf Earl Grey available locally. Where can I get loose leaf Earl grey around Coffs Harbour?

Weak & poor quality
I usually buy dilmah Earl Grey. Couldn't get it at Coles, so I though I would try Twinings. It's that weak, that even 2 tea bags don't provide a decent taste. I tried a few times & binned the rest. No more Twinings for me

Tastes good but questionable quality
While the taste is nice, the presence of pesticides and insecticides is concerning, as is the origin of the tea leaves. I have since switched to Australian owned brands and organic tea given that tea is something I consume on a daily basis. Knowing where the tea is coming from and what it is exposed to is important to me!

OK
Twinings is a well-known, reputable brand so you will always get consistancy of quality. Not my first choice, but I wouldn't say no if it was offered!! I prefer the loose tea, but again, thats just me! T-bags are great for convenience, you can have it black or with milk.
Easily available and comes in tea bags or loose leaf, and in various sizes. Sometimes on special.
Personally I find it a bit too 'perfumed'- I like Earl Grey, but in my opinion Twinnings is not the best. Although some of my friends love it, so I guess its down to personal tastes.

Excellent
My favorite tea! I drink it with a bit of milk which some people say is a bit odd but for some reason i find the milk enhances the flavor more.
Nice and fragrant. I drink earl grey tea often and prefer twinings tea bags over most others i have tasted even the loose leaf tea. Easy to use in the tea bag. Individual pouches keeps the tea bags really fresh. I go through these really quickly as i drink 2 cups a day but because i buy them often they are always fresh.
Nothing. Well if you want me to be really picky the string could be a bit longer bec...Read more

Hi to those who have experienced the "change with Earl Grey", as per my post a month ago. PLEASED to report, I had very good response when I rang the number on their box (free call to Melbourne I think). Apparently there were issue with particular batches, and the young woman on the other end, took my details, and I received a note and a Woolworth voucher as an apology and recompense. I have since gone back to Twinings Earl Grey - and ALL is good. :)

As you can see from many reviews, there are some very unhappy loyal Twinings customers. It would be good to have some response & seriously consideration of a random Quality review & a possible Recall. I will call Distributors & try be able to return product to Coles.

Returned to Woolworths and refunded. Aldi do a Diplomat Brand Earl Grey really good
Thks, unfortunately no Aldi where I live, will try some other brands. Was told to try Numi.
I wrote a complaint to Twinings already & their response was poor.
