Hi Schultzy, thanks for your question.

The Q models, and the Baby Q in particular are quite hot barbecues. Unfortunately, not all barbecues are quite as versatile as others. While a Baby Q will do just about anything, they’re suited for roasting, grilling and baking, not low and slow..

Depending on what you're trying to cook, we can give you some other recommendations if you would like? Please let us know. Sorry we couldn't find a solution for you.

Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Clint, thanks for your question.

The flames on a Q are not designed to be large, they are designed to be small, blue and even throughout the whole burner tube.

If you suspect that there may be a blockage, please follow the following steps.

1. To clean your burner tube, first, remove the grill from the barbecue when cold. Using a clean wire brush, brush across the burner tube all the way along. Try reigniting the barbecue and check if the problem is resolved.
2. If not, turn the barbecue off, wait for it to cool and push a pin, needle or paper clip into each of the burner ports to ensure that they are clear. Try reigniting the barbecue and check if the problem is resolved.
3. If not, turn the barbecue off, wait for it to cool and remove the burner(s) from the barbecue. To remove, follow the directions in your owner’s guide. Soak the burner tubes in hot soapy water and clean with a nylon scourer. Ensure the burner is completely dry before replacing in the barbecue. Try reigniting the barbecue and check if the problem is resolved.

Hope that helps you Clint, if you need any other information please feel free to call our customer service hotline on 1300 301 290 (toll free) and we can help you out. Thanks again Clint.

Baby Q Q100

We recently purchased a Weber Ware large casserole dish and plan to use it with a Weber Q and was wondering if we could also use it with our home cooktop (gas) to brown onions etc and then bake in our electric oven?

1 answer

Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Gazman, thanks for your question.

Yes, you can use these Q ware pieces like you would any other casserole dish. Just remember to take the handles off before placing them in an oven, and we suggest not leaving the handles on while you're using them on a stove- only put the handle back on when you need to.

Thanks again for your question.

How do you gauge 220 degrees celsius?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Brian, thanks for your question.

If you're preheating your Q on high for 10 minutes prior to use, this should result in a temperature of around 220°
Also, your roasting setting (refer to your manual for more information) would be roughly around that temperature too.

If you need precise temperature measurements, we have a range of digital and Bluetooth thermometers available for purchase. You can find them here: https://www.weberbbq.com.au/weber-accessories/

Hope that helps! Thanks Brian.

The gas holes on the gas bar might be blocked from dripping meat fats or marinade. Take a needle or pin and clean the holes.

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Bertie, thanks for your question, and we're sorry to hear about your low gas flow.
Can you tell us a bit more information? The flames on a Q are meant to be low, and blue. If you're experiencing patches of burner tube that aren't lighting, check and clear blockages by using a metal grill brush and brushing over the holes on the tube. Alternatively, you can use a paperclip or pin and poke each one individually.

Another area that you should check is your gas tubing. Conduct a soapy water test once you've connected your gas regulator or hose connection. By spraying soapy water on the connection, you can see if there is a leak (bubbles will start to form and bubble). If this is the case, then turn off the gas immediately and let the gas disperse.
If you need any more information, please call our customer service team on 1300 301 290 and we'll walk you through it. Thanks Bertie.

Hi, You can use any size gas bottle you want. I've got a custom made 2 point gas adaptor where I can use both disposable bottles (for camping) and standard LPG gas bottles up to 9kg. I prefer the standard 4kg LPG bottle as it is easy to handle.

Baby Q Q100

Is it okay to use a foil tray to put food like a roast in to cook, is it safe to do so?

3 answers
Jon "O'
Jon "O'

I guess you can if your heat is set on low. I've never used foil trays in my BBQ (or even in my oven) for one simple reason -I hate them! You cannot cut a roast in those trays and you cannot serve your food in them as well. I use a proper stainless steel tray in my BBQ. I use the foil trays as a drip tray under my BQ

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Bev,
We recommend that you use our Convection Tray and Trivet system when roasting on your Q barbecue. Using foil may hinder the barbecues' ability to circulate heat properly, and create a potential fire hazard as the fat can pool and light.

Unless otherwise specified, it is recommended that you remove your hotplate (if you have one) and use a convection tray and a roasting trivet. To ensure that the bottom of your roast is not scorched by the hot grill bars.
The convection tray and trivet used together to transform your Q™ from cooking in barbecue mode to oven mode in seconds. The convection tray is engineered with vents designed to circulate the heat above, below and perfectly all around the food. The vents also allow the fats from the roast to drain away, falling between the grill bars.
Set-up is simple.
• Place a convection tray on the grill so the four locating tabs sit inside the covered areas of your cooking grill. The tray should now be positioned in the middle of your
Q™.
• Place the roasting trivet on the tray. You are now set up for roasting or baking.

Here is a video link that shows you how to set it all up: https://www.weberbbq.com.au/video/which-weber-q-is-right-for-you/

Hope that helps! If you need any further information, please let us know. Thanks Bev

Baby Q Q100

Hi. I have a problem with my valve on our Baby Q100. The The silver part of the valve with two screws in it is cracked in half and it needs to be replaced. Where can I purchase a replacement in Sydney?

4 answers

Nick,
Weber replacement parts are typically a "complete unit" ie. If your control valve is cracked, the valve is attached to the regulator which is attached to the hose. You will have to buy that a s a complete unit. Id be contacting Weberbbq.com.au as a starting point and if they cant help I would be looking on the internet (places like ebay)
The difficulty you may have is the Australian Weber comes with a standard valve/regulator/hose for fitting to a regular 4 or 9kg LPG bottle.
The US/UK model (which you will mainly see on the internet) does NOT have the hose, but moreso has a connection to fit a "1 LB propane" camping/handyman bottle. This connection is referred to as a CGA600 or UENF1-20 and accepts the Bernzomatic or Tradeflame 400gram or 465gram gas bottles
This is part #80477 (which I have) see my article under Weber Baby Q titles "Excellent, but...)
Unfortunately Australians are not very well serviced by Weber in the replacement parts market. You will either struggle to get the part or you may have to have it imported
Good luck

Nick,
An afterthought... send me an email to [email protected] with your details.
You can have my old Australian valve/regulator/hose as I dont use it.
I say "old" but its never been used because I converted mine back to the 1lb bottle system and the regulator/valve/hose is just sitting on a shelf

Brian,
250 deg C is the max I get out of my BBQ (Q120). I couldnt imagine anything that requires more than this
Sausages, steak, fish, pizza, leg of lamb, even pork rolled leg is fine with a weber that is pre-heated to 250 C (quite often I only preheat to 210-230 C). Regularly I then turn the temp down so the rest of the cooking process doesnt burn or dry out what Im cooking.
I dont know why you would want more than 250 deg. Please let me know
Regards

Brian

I am talking degrees F not C - the C equivalent is around 120

gri2a
gri2a

Brian,
Sorry I didnt get back straight away. 250 F is way too cool. I assumed you were talking Celcius.
On 1 August I answered another question about low heat where I suggested cleaning out both the burner tube and the valve. Can I suggest you read that reply. I would focus on the valve. The gas flow hole in the valve is only about 1/2 mm. The TINNIEST partial blockage, even something as small as a human hair is going to reduce the flow of gas significantly.
Make sure the gas valve is absolutely clear

Baby Q Q100

Hello, we have joined the Baby Q brigade and used it last night for the first time, very yummy chicken sticks cooked in a flash and enjouyed by all.

Unfortunately being very inexperienced and not getting the best advice from the seller, we didn't buy the model with a temperature guage, and reading all the reviews and comments on line (a bit late now) we realise a temp guage is necessary for a lot of the cooking.

Is there an external temp guage that you can get to overcome this problem.

Any advice welcome.

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hello, you don't necessarily need a temperature gauge in the lid to be able to cook. Both models have the same cooking settings and you will notice in the booklets and owners guides that we don't refer to a specific temperature to cook. As long as you set the BBQ up correctly with which ever setting you need, then you are good to go! Feel free to contact us with any further questions or queries you may have.

gri2a
gri2a

You could simply buy a thermometer, and drill a hole in the lid. I "googled" "stainless steel cooking probe" and found a screw in thermometer that would work. ($5 to $15).... how accurate would the temperature readinds be??? anyones guess.
The q1200 lid has an indent that specifically fits the genuine thermometer.
The expensive alternative is to buy a Q1200 lid and Q1200 thermometer. BBQ and Outdoor in Melbourne have them ($115 and $25 respectively)

Baby Q Q100

Are there gas fittings so we can run a smaller gas cylinder?
We just got home and were disappointed to find we cannot use our weber with a 2kg bottle. (Camping purposes)

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hey Johnny - so in Australia (as far as I have seen) the POL fittings that are standard for bbqs are only on gas bottles down to around the 4kg mark. Anything under that is a companion fitting (I think that's what they're called) - and you're right, that's what most camping products (like cookers and gas lanterns etc) use.
I think you can get converters to attach the POL fitting on your Baby Q to a companion bottle, but it's not really recommended as when the smaller bottle starts to run out, there will not be enough pressure to operate the unit. Even when it's full, we can't guarantee the unit will get hot enough - as it will with a 4kg.
Hope that helps.

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi There - it's probably best to contact our customer service team on 1300 301 290 or email us on [email protected] - in order to properly diagnose what is going on. There are a few things that can cause this - over time (I'm not sure how old your unit is) fats and debris can build up around the ignition point in the unit and cause it not to light, and the burner tube can also because dirty. If you haven't cleaned the burner tube before, you should try that first - clean with a wire brush whilst cold, and then go along with a metal paper clip and remove any debris from every hole in the tube. When lit the flames should be the same height across the entire burner tube - if not, repeat the process. Hope that helps.

Baby Q Q100

Hi, I have a Baby Q and I have tried to light it tonight. I have found that the control knob has no friction to it, it just spins around. It will not allow gas to enter to ignition chamber, Where the hose joins the Bbq the whole connection seems very loose. Used it 2 weeks ago and it was great. any ideas?

2 answers
Tony_P
Tony_P

It could be that the nut that holds the gas valve in place has come loose. Pull the control knob off by gripping it firmly and sliding it off. See if the brass nut that holds the valve in place has come loose. If so, use a socket or spanner of the correct size to tighten it up. Do not overtighten as it is a brass thread bolting onto the plastic stand.

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Joy - I guess you could - but we don't recommend you use one, as cooking with the meat directly on the trivet (check out the video on roasting on your weber q at weberbbq.com.au) - and allowing the excess fats and juices to burn off, creating incredible bbq smoke that gives awesome flavour.... and don't worry about the meat being tender, the Weber Q ticks that box too. Try it the Weber way first and I bet you won't need the oven bag!
