Great Fridge
Had our fridge now 15 years, bit noisy when running, never had a fault. third W'house we have had. No complaints. Does on occasions cool things a bit too much (freeze) but seldom. Nice unit...Probably a bit big now the kids have left home.Haven't even had to replace a globe. Good freezer.

Freezing food in the Fridge!!!
Hi, can anyone tell me if they have been successful in figuring out why the fridge section freezes food intermittently and what has been done to fix it?
This has been an isue for years and we constantly have to throw food that has frozen. We had a tech out a little while ago and he tested everything to say all was working fine and this fridge just seems to do this! Great we thought, that was worth about $160. Doing it again now and even with the fridge "cold" level turned to the lowest setting it's still freezing in different zones within the fridge.. so frustrating.
Any help here is appreciated. We have the BJ505T model.

Poor quality - I expected better from Westinghouse
Bought the Westinghouse fridge a few years ago because my family has always bought Westinghouse and in the past have been great fridges. Sadly this one has let me down. After a couple of years of use the doors have dropped leaving a gap around the top of the seal on the opening side. I wasn't to upset about this till I found out the lower cam (which is what one of the parts are called) is no longer available for the left hand hinged models. Very disappointing from a company like Westinghouse. Also, the parts required to fix the door droppi...Read more
ng problem do not come as a kit. You have to buy each part separate. I paid a small fortune for this fridge and there is only 2 of us in the house so its not like the doors are opened 50 times a day. Poor design.. very disappointed.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Never Again
A product so sub-standard you wonder if any quality testing was ever done. Nothing was good about this fridge. Never another Westinghouse product again. Freezer will not freeze, cooler will freeze your food. If it worked too noisy. Doors wont shut, Thermostat control so loose and in the wrong spot. over all it is an awful waste of money
The looks
Freezer will not freeze. Cooler will freeze sometimes. Frequent Breakdown. Doors wont shut Too noisy if it ever worked Absolute rubbish

The fridge with a million miles to its name.
This fridge belongs to the other half - however I take care of it and everything inside it... The fridge was pretty neglected when I got my hands on it - firstly giving it a good clean and vacume of dust out the back.
The rubbers for the fridge are shot (due to girls nails cutting into the rubber than using the handles eg: child), we tried getting them replaced with OEM rubbers but the Westinghouse shop stuffed us around with wrong parts so the split rubbers remain but fixed a little. The plastics are brittle and you need to practice a lot ...Read more
of caution when you wash the fridge as things will snap and it'll cost you an arm and a leg to replace! I find that the fridge works alright, but as some state there are cold and some extremely cold spots in the fridge that affect some foods terribly. The fresh produce bins at the bottom for greens do a good job at quickly destroying lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, potato's etc - they have half the shelf life than my mothers fridge that is 10 years older than this fridge. I turned up the thermostat and then noticed that things would go off at the upper levels of the fridge, so you cant win at all! The freezer itself is what you would call Cryogenic Storage - it is set up right and I find that chicken and beef suffer from freezer burn quiet quickly, regardless of how you pack or store it they get those white dot's... I also store frozen fish for fishing and find that Mullet - the most hardy bait suffers from terrible freezer burn even when they're stored in multiple bags and paper. All in all, the fridge had been moved from house to house possibly more times than I care to remember and had more mileage points than a frequent flyer the fridge continues to keep chilling; its never going to be perfect nor is it going to impress but it keeps on going on! Keeps milk chilled. Destroys fresh produce and gives terrible freezer burn to meats stored in the freezer... Who needs expiration dates when you have this fridge.Similar opinion? dud. a huge dissapointment. I was hoping this would last me 10 years or more. 2.5 years and it's landfill.
loved the look and design. I paid it off in about 4 months- very proud about that. Worked well until it suddenly stopped working after 1.5 yrs. I had to replace the entire motor for $165AU!
The butter lids at the top of the door broke almost immediately! very poor design there. The door looked great if I used a stainless steel spray on it but was still hard to keep clean. it scratched easily. Now after 2 years it is freezing my food. The new motor isnt even 6 months old! We will have to replace this frige. I dont want to replace any more motors. DONT BUY WESTINGHOUSE!

The fridge freezes
The design of the fridge is good, there is alot of room in it, but that doesn't help the fact that it destroys all my vegetables and a few other things that cant come back from being partially frozen. i cannot wait to buy a new fridge or get this one fixed. its driving me up the wall...
Roomy, like the upside down idea
The fridge freezes, the freezer doesn't work the best

Biggest waste of money in my life. This fridge did not work adequately from day one, do not buy anything from Westinghouse, this is worse then rubbish.
* plastic bottle keeper broke immediately when i tried to install it.
* makes ludicrous amount of noise
* Just outside of 2 year warranty period, fridge and freezer stopped working, quote was $400 to fix, something to do with casing

An absolute dud of a fridge... My second Westinghouse that has been a poor product.
The people serving Westinghouse in our area said that most complaints were about Westinghouse and most newer models were replaced within 5 years.
Looked great when we bought it. It is still running.(3 y.o)
The fridge section freezers everything. There is a 'chill zone'- which is suppose to be where you can put things to keep them especially cold. I think the 'Chill zone' was a design fault and someone decided to call it a feature rather than a fault. All the fruit and veges always freeze. The stainless steel surface began to rust within a year, the plastic mouldings around the bottom broke within 6 months, the seals split within a year.

Very poor product by Westinghouse. Even tech said he would not buy one.It had to be repaired 8 times during warranty period. They replaced everything trying to fix it. Finally a tech worked out it has faulty casing causing leaks. Wasted so much food in the thing. It is now 3 years old and I am selling to a dealer for parts. Stay away from Westinghouse - poor service and very average product. Crisper draw is quite brittle and broke straight away.
It really does not have any except the blue light that comes on inside.
It had to be repaired 8 time...Read more

Good
Fantastic layout, an ice maker would have made it a 5.
The thermostat may have an issue (or relay) but as stated above, we have purchased second-hand
Don't have to bend over to use the most commonly accessed part - the fridge
has problems (cools to only 16C instead of 3-5C) on extremely hot days, but to be fair we purchased second-hand
No ice maker

We have a Westinghouse Virtuoso fridge freezer BJ503T-R. Has been working fine then water started appearing below freezer door. Up this morning and food in drawers has all defrosted BUT ice cubes on top shelf still frozen! Anyone had similar issues and if so what is the remedy?? Thank you

Hi AlanH... We have a Westinghouse BJ505S-R*6, probably not your model.... BUT is now 20+ years old and it indicates loss of refrigerant or similar.... These older model fridges cannot be regassed as the current gas is not compatable with the refrigeration oils used. We anticipate having to purchase a new fridge soon..unforftunately.

Thank you Bill

Westinghouse fridge/freezer BJ505S-R had not been used for a year or so. Our son has got it and says it keeps beeping! It's cooling OK, but the noise does not stop. What can be done?

iT'S PROBABLY THE NOISE THAT ADVISES YOU THAT THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. mUST BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIGHT SWITCH THAT KEEPS IT ON.... is the light still working?
Sorry, just saw the answer, thanks for that suggestion - have passed it on! Westinghouse themselves only advised to call one of their techs and could not even tell me whether there was a solution. It's a 2nd fridge, so will see what happens. Thanks, Ballarat Bill!
