Reliable Fridge - Design Improvements Needed
I'm certainly happy with this fridge, but I think some points could be improved.
The fridge compartment has a lot of space and its very flexible. You can move the internal shelves around, and the door shelves come in several parts that allow you to move them around to positions that suit you. You also have the option to adjust the division in the crisper drawer. The lockable compartment is a nice touch for medications that you wouldn't want kids to get into etc.
It's easy to set the temperatures and very user-friendly, and the lighting in th...Read more
e front and back of the fridge makes it easy to find what you're looking for. The freezer compartment is set out very well with two large, full-width drawers and one narrower drawer that shares space with the ice tray. The ice tray could certainly be larger, I have a second tray in one of the drawers so that I know that there is always spare ice because of the low capacity. The drawers in the freezer are fantastic on metal rollers. They open and close smoothly and don't fall out if you pull on them too hard like in other fridges. However, I feel like they could reach deeper into the refrigerator, I can't help but get the feeling that they didn't make the most of the size of the freezer and could potentially be deeper. The fridge is relatively silent, however when the motor kicks in, you know. It isn't loud, but it isn't discreet either. I also think the warranty is shy compared to other models in this price range. A similar LG in this price range is 10 years while this is only 2 years.

Badly designed main door handle
Bought from Harvey Norman Mandurah WA Store in November 2018. Fridge has worked well until recently during hot weather, really good door seals made opening difficult due to air cooling inside causing difficulty in opening main fridge door. The extra pulling force on the handle caused handle to break off and we had to crack the seal before opening the door by pulling the top of the door. Very poor mechanical design on the handle clips with flimsy plastic retainers caused the failure. A replacement handle under warranty took weeks to arrive with instructions to DIY installation. Some redesign of the mounting is definitely required to provide a stronger fitting

Hasn't stopped yet
Had the fridge for 1 year so far and it has been a set and forget experience. Very low power usage compared to my older fridge of 7 yrs. Only gripe would be with the design of the freezer, with all the compartments and ice drawer it really reduces usable space.

Not cooling in less than 3 years
Bought the fridge in March 2017 and up until a week age I was happy with the product and then it has lost the ability to cool anything. The fridge can now just do 14 degrees. Not good enough if you need 3-7 degrees for food and medicine.
Called the hotline and all they said was 'out of warranty', provided me with some phone numbers to give the service people a call to get it fixed at my expense.
The fridge is less than 3 years old, where is the customer care? Not sure if the brand / manufacture is proud of its product and performance as it seems I'm not the only one with cooling issues.

Great fridge
This fridge has been excellent, love the bottom mount configuration with drawers. Looks stylish. Specialised fridge tupperware works better than the crisper drawers. If anything it is a bit small and it gets filled quickly, but there was only the space to put a small fridge in the kitchen. The door baskets help free up some space as they are spacious and the sides of the baskets are high enough that short items will not fall out when opening the drawer too fast.

Great fridge
I really like the fridge and it keeps food cold however my only bug bear is the layout. I feel like the space could be better utilised. Other than that it’s a great fridge!

Very reliable
Everything fits perfect. Good on electricity and very quiet. I like the fact the freezer is on the lower level. I will recommend this product to all my friends and family.

Died on xmas eve 2016 and we were stuffed until a few days later.
Was promised a voucher to redeemfor replacing lost contents, still waiting.
Eventually replaced fridge for "new" which had dent in it, obviously floor stock.
Just died again.

Huge and Shiny
Was going to buy a Haier fridge but after seeing the width will only allow 5mm on each sides, I decided to get this Westinghouse which will have 3cm on each sides (the space in my son's kitchen only 800mm width. And its has bottom freezer and a compact ice maker which my son love. I had many Westinghouse fridges before, so I better stick to one and have a very good discount before spending more than $3G at The Good Guys. It has simple front design, the ONLY drawback its come only on Right Hand opening so if your fridge cavity is on your left than taking eggs out to the cooking bench you have to close the door first but for its sleek and white design plus plenty of space inside I am ok with it.

Spent a long time reseaching. We’ve owned this fridge for 3 years and love it. Nothing bad to report
I spent more time researching and deliberating when I bought a fridge than when I bought my house. Now it’s been 3 years since I bought this fridge (and my aunt bought one too) and I am just as happy as the day I bought it.
Most online reviews are written after something goes wrong so it’s hard to get a sense for the overall quality or reliability of a given fridge.
I’m happy to report that nothing has gone wrong in 3 years for my aunt or me. The fridge is reliable, quiet, efficient and user friendly.
The main selling points for me were the stainless steel look and option of a left hand side opening door.

Decent fridge
Good points:
Reasonably quiet. You must take the time to level the fridge or at least change the level to avoid a bad vibration from the compressor against the body of the fridge.
Freezer is below fridge, good design.
Well lit.

In hot weather the fridge does not equalise the internal pressure very quickly after opening. This results in a door that won't open if you try to reopen the door within 3 minutes.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice fridge
My first upside down style fridge and I do like it. Previously owned side by side Westinghouse which I found the fridge component to narrow so I really like having a full width fridge. I wish the lower end models came with a water dispenser as this was one thing I really wanted but compromised on.
The fridge lighting is awesome. The door compartments very spacious and flexible compared to some others I was looking at.
For the price, the styling and practicality is spot on.
Negatives mainly being the fruit & veg compartment - compared to my ...Read more

Awesome fridge
This fridge is great. It is whisper quiet and has plenty of space inside considering its external dimensions. The features inside such as child proof lockable storage for safety, bottle rack and led lighting make it very functionally suitable. A reliable brand with local Australian support. Highly recommend this product.

Below expectations
We bought this fridge after being pleased with our previous Westinghouse bottom mount fridge which we owned for 10 years before it stopped working.
Firstly the positives - the WBE4500SA has an attractive style, with the interior well designed and illuminated with a solid, quality feel. The compartments are well laid out, with the wine rack and egg trays useful features.
Unfortunately the fridge is let down by a few issues. Firstly the compressor is noisier than expected and has a discernibly louder compressor than our previous, older model....Read more
It is also frustrating that the door is difficult to open and also to close. There is no self-closing mechanism either - although this seems to be the norm with modern fridges for some reason. Finally, the energy efficiency is worse than comparably priced fridges e.g. LG and Electrolux competitors. Overall below expectations.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

good
This refrigerator has been used in my home for a while. First of all, this refrigerator is very cost-effective. It is really affordable. It is very suitable for our small family. Because the refrigerator is not very large, it does not take up too much space. This is great, so far, the refrigerator is working very well.

Good one
We bought it 5years ago, it is OK but the body was too brittle. It cracked when a small jar fell o. It. It was easy to clean but I had to change it after 5 years. The steel finish distorted and damaged in the first months and the look was not new after that

Fridge door very hard to open
This fridge works really good and we like the layout but it is very hard to open the fridge door. The freezer door opens easily. After one week I reported this problem to the Good Guys where we purchased it and they said they would contact Westinghouse Service. Two weeks have gone by and so far no has contacted us. I see on the reviews where another customer has pulled his door handle off and they had to replace the whole door.

Still going strong
Cannot fault it. We had to specially order this one as we needed a left hung one. We had to wait about a month but we had very good service from Harvey Norman and got a 41 litre Waeco fridge as a promo gift from Westinghouse. Its easy to clean Stainless steel and has a coating to help easy cleaning. Temperature adjustments are easy on the inside. Its fairly quiet. It does its automatic defrosting every so often and when you get used to this sound of this its no problem. Good use of space inside, we opted no for the water dispenser in the door. Used up too much space we thought.

Questions & Answers
Alison Casked
We had our new Westinghouse dark SS WBE4504BB bottom mount delivered new today. We plugged it in and can not get it to cool below 15deg C in either fridge or freezer. It is alarming hot every 50 mins so we have had to turn it off. It is summer and Christmas Eve and we have no fridge. Can you help us? Alison
1 answer
Sounds like it has dumped the refrigerant or the compressor is stuffed. Suggest you go back to an esky and ice or borrow a portable fridge/freezer until after the christmas holidays. Murphy wins again, things always fail on a holiday long weekend when everything is closed. Get the dealer to replace the whole thing under warranty or swap it for a Samsung or LG.

Hi, just bought this fridge Westinghouse WBE4500WB-R new on 13/12/2019 and have found that the interior fan is quite noisy and runs all the time. The noise seems more of a rumble than a fan. It stops when the fridge door is open and starts again when the door switch is depressed. Had a Samsung before this and an LG for a trial period and the fan noise on those 2 was hardly noticeable. is this normal for the Westinghouse to be so noisy and for the fan to run all the time?
1 answer
The fan on mine doesn't run all the time, but when it does you certainly notice it. Might be worth contacting Westinghouse.
