Great upright Stove!

published

The cooktop is great, heats up and cools down quickly. The oven bakes brilliantly and evenly, no fan means it takes a little longer to heat up, but its worth it. The oven is well insulated at the front, so its not heating up the entire kitchen when you're cooking. Nice bright light and full glass panels makes it easy to see what your cooking. Cant fault this basic yet great model. Thanks.

thermally Dangerous. What is the standard for outside surface temp on an oven

published

We have only used the 535's oven twice, and both times were amazed at the surface temperature of the units outside. It would appear to reach dangerous levels, where it is scoldingly hot to touch. Not just on the glass but the door, sides and the stove top, all from the oven.

I am sure in winter this will be of great benefit, but in summer none. With this much heat conduction it must be an enormous energy waster as well, though I did not get to see the energy rating.

My advice, walk on by unless you are looking to weigh something down out at sea!

Grest Stove

published

Just purchased this a week ago and we are very happy with the way it cooks. Stove top is quick to heat and the oven works well. We especially like that it does NOT have a 'cooling fan' and chose it because of that fact. Cooks a roast well and quick to boil and cook on the stove top. Like that it is an Australian product - replaced an older gas stove we had for over 20 years - also a Westinghouse - and briefly had another brand which we were not happy with. My wife prefers it to cooking on gas. The Good Guys were really good to deal with. Cheers

Dreadful - all around disappointing

published

Bought the WLE535WA a bit under a year ago and so disappointed will have to chuck it and replace.
Tried discussing disappointment with Westinghouse customer service, who suggested I sell it on ebay and
try again. The solid elements are the worst. We had a Chef stove before with coil elements and it was just
fine, even though it was at least 25 years old. The solid elements take forever to heat up, and then you just cannot bring anything down to a simmer in a reasonable time. The elements stay hot for ages. It is just a
monster to cook with. Lesson learned. The elements are also hard to clean and they look messy.
The unit looks neat.
Too long to heat up, too long to cool down to a simmer.

Entry Level Upright Cooker

published

This Australian made upright cooker is an ideal entry level model. It does what it is supposed to without fuss, cleaning is easy as most of its "bits" either lift up or slide out for better access. We were restricted to a 54cm cooker and this one fits into our kitchen nicely. The next level up cooker has a fan forced oven (but not wanted in our situation). We also like the anti tip-over floor mounting bracket that holds the oven in place.
Easy to use.
The timer only has a short ring and can be missed

Is the oven fan forced?

1 answer

Good question. There is no label anywhere that says fan forced but there is a fan going when you turn it on. My previous oven was not fan-forced so I can hear/see the difference. I use fan forced temp when recipes say so and it cooks perfectly.
