My vacuum will not roll on the bottom of the pool. When I lift it the turbines spin. We replaced the treads at the end of last season, and it has been stored over the winter. We cleaned and adjusted the filter so I don't think suction is the issue. How long should the wheels and treads normally last?

My Zodiac MX8 is about 1 and a half years old when it started moving slowly. The swimming pool people advised me that the filter sand is dirty. After cleaning the filter sand, the problem remained. I then replaced both shafts and shaft-bearings; the tracks, however, the problem persists. I took the pool cleaner to the swimming pool people who then advised me that both direction control devices [A & B] are faulty, which I then had replaced. The swimming pool guys assured me that the cleaner would now work [after I spent almost as much as the price of a new cleaner], as everything else it is in good condition. The cleaner worked for a few hours, but then stopped moving again. When I lift the cleaner from the bottom, the wheels start spinning again, but as soon as it reached the bottom, it stops. I am really discouraged at this point in time. Do you have any answer as to what the problem might be?

This is usually the result of something getting stuck inside. In Las Vegas, that would be palm fronds or just the thin hair like pieces from palm trees. The next resolution is not enough suction from the pump- either too much is directed at drain or slimmer or the filters are in need of cleaning/replacement.

My MX8 is almost a year old. Recently the tracks were falling off so I replaced them. The old tracks were slightly worn. One track continues to fall off. Is there an adjustment or other issue causing the new track to fall off?

I want to know "Where must the Leader Hose Float" be on a Zodiac MX8 elite? It says approximately 9 inches from the head. Is the head the top of the MX8 or the end of the hose? Mine came farther than 9 inches from the end of the hose.

I just bought a new Zodiac MX8 elite. When I connected it to one of the 2 skimmers the unit would not move. The scrubbers rotate, but not that fast. It’s a new pump and I just cleaned the pool filter. What’s wrong?

For your MX8 not to work means that there is a suction problem. If the 2 skimmers are connected to the same pump, then the side without the MX8 will suck through more water, because there is less resistance. The side the MX8 is connected to has more water resistance, as the water has to travel through the cleaner and the length of hose, so it uses the path of least resistance. You could try to put a vacuum plate on the second skimmer to close, or at least partially close it. There is also an elbow with flow adjustment in the kit (I presume), you can adjust the water flow on the MX8 side. I hope this helps.

Just purchased a zodiac mx8 elite. Installed in the skimmer. Not using the regulator. The cleaner is very slow and will not climb Walls. The surface of the pool is river rock.

There seems to be insufficient suction, try back washing the filter and you’ll probably see an improvement.

I’m assuming that your skimmer box and pump baskets are clean.

Hi. We have had our MX8 Elite for a few months now and almost since the beginning, it constantly gets stuck behind and wrapped around the stairs at the deep end of the pool. Is there any way to stop this? Has this happened to anyone else? It's concerning because when no one is here, it could be stuck and running for hours. Thanks.

I service and repair MX8’s. As we all know, it’s generally the CDC’s (gearboxes) that wear out and have to be replaced, and mostly the A-side gearbox. Is this a known phenomena?

Hello I have an MX8 i had it for a year, it started slowing down so I rebuilt it with new drive motors A & B plus new bearing and new tracks. My pool temperature is 46 degrees, I believe the cold water makes the tracks stiff not allow the tracks to move smoothly. If I remove the tracks everything is moving good, suction is good. When I reinstall tracks MX8 goes trough all the motions slowly. Is the cold water my problem? Or maybe the belts I bought are not OEM got them on Amazon.

It sounds like your chlorine content is a little low, normal levels of chlorine will take care of algae of everything that is in the pool including your cleaner.

not sure mine has never had that. I would probably try something like the wet and forget product or copper phosphate diluted in water and spray on then leave for maybe a week or so and repeat from time to time . I know the copper phosphate kills mould algae spaw's so would well be worth a try and is cheap. my mx8 lives in the pool and I never have your problem. Hope this helps.

I bought an MX8 January 2018, when I first used it, it would clean the whole pool including the walls. Now it gets stuck on the drain at the bottom of the deep end of the pool, almost straight away. I have changed all the hoses around several times, added and subtracted hoses and it still gets stuck. I am concerned that whilst I was reading some of the other questions I saw that Zodiac recommend that the MX8 is taken out of the pool most of the time. I have in fact run the pool for almost 8 hours a day with the MX8 in the pool the whole time. Is this the problem?

It may be that only one track is moving or is stuck in one direction. That can be caused by wear to teeth the rubber tracks so that they don't move, or by wear to the gears so that on stops reversing direction. Lift the MX8 up to where you can see it and watch what is happening. Or take it out and manually turn the drive turbines and watch what happens. (Takes quite a lot of turning to see gear changes) If one or both gears is not changing direction regularly it needs a refurb. I found that the the MX8 needs a replacement of the moving parts quite often - see my review. 10 months at 8 hours a day is probably enough to wear them out.

Reduce the speed of your pump or reduce the suction at the skimmer box plate.

Kurt

In the kit is an elbow with a three ribbed flow adjustment. It locks into the vacuum plate. You can adjust the flow there. In the instructions there is a reference as to how to determine the speed. I think it was about 22-25 seconds before it reverses.

I have a fully tiled pool and the cleaner will not climb the walls. The rubber tracks just start slipping when it reaches the curve where the floor of the pool becomes the wall. I have tried gluing some shoe sloe grip on the tracks it works for a while but does wear off quickly. My question is " Can you obtain a rubber track that will not slip? "

3 answers
Kurt
Kurt

You may be able to get better traction by increasing the flow/ suction rate. That should pull it tighter onto the wall and so give it more traction. You probably want to take care not to make it run to fast, as that would increase wear rates on other components. See one of my previous comments on how to do that. Good luck.

deboyz
deboyz

I have tried all of the suggestions. My opinion is that i need a soft track so as the unit can grip the tile grout lines. Do zodiac make a soft rubber version of the track.

The mx8 did not work for me, although Leslie’s pool said that they had never had any probs with this item. I went back to the aqua critter....works well....inexpensive...Dependable! Have had to replace the aqua critter 2 times in the last ten years... or approximately $500.00 total cost over ten years!
