Very poor customer service
Online technician told me wrong advice resulting in an incorrect purchase. Went into Preston store to buy additional item to rectify the situation (having checked online that the shop had the item in stock). Told in advance by a little brat they wouldn't be helping me install it(rack for a baby seat), no apology, then told they didn't actually have it in stock, no apologies, a real attitude when I asked for one to be bought in from another store over the next week (he wanted me to drive a further 15km across town to find one), then as I was li...Read more
terally driving away he approached my car to say I had to leave a deposit in order for the other store to send the rack. Who does this? I said I wouldn't because I don't trust that it will necessarily fit my bike, I will pay once I see it installed in-store to make sure it fits, especially because one of their technicians caused this f-up in the first place... He didn't seem phased when I said I would go elsewhere. Incredibly rude. Won't be dealing with 99 bikes again would rather more more elsewhere.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Con men.
My partner went there for a replacement wheel ended up costing $170 when all it needed was a tyre and tube.
it broke within months after taking it to a trustworthy place they were disgusted by the "workmanship" of 99bikes preston.
Avoid these con men at all costs.

Great bikes at great prices but don't use the workshop
This store is my local bike shop so I try to support them. I've spent over $4K there by my calculations and have purchased some very nice bikes for the family at very competitive prices. The purchase experience is usually very good. The staff are helpful and always make sure the bike is properly fitted, which is an absolute must. They're good about letting you go for a decent test ride, which is also an absolute must.
Unfortunately any goodwill generated during the sale is rapidly burnt by the after sales support in the workshop. These gu...Read more
ys are overworked, in a hurry, stressed and often come across with a roll-the-eyes blame-the-customer attitude. They're either too busy to do a good job, or incompetent. I'm not sure which. Every single bike I've purchased has been so poorly assembled that I've needed to take it back soon after purchase for adjustment. Not only are the problems rarely fixed, new ones seem to be created. My most recent bike went in 2 weeks after purchase for a rattly internal cable (which couldn't be fixed) and came back with front mech shifting issues. The tech was very defensive and blamed me but on further inspection the big chain ring had 2 badly damaged teeth and needed a warranty replacement. He suggested that I'd damaged the chain ring myself and Shimano might not come to the party which was completely false. 2.5 weeks later I was informed that my bike was ready to pick up with the new components covered by Shimano. When the tech wheeled the bike out it was clear that he had been WORKING ON THE WRONG BIKE! My bike was still not fixed when he finally located it. He tried to fix it while I waited but was clearly flustered and couldn't find the correct parts. In the process he managed to drop my new bike on the floor without an apology or even cursory inspection for damage, just a comment of 'that'd be right'. A second bike leaning against the wall was also knocked over while I watched. I think I know how those chain ring teeth were damaged now...... I'm horrified at the lack of care and responsibility. I'm thinking of purchasing a new front chain ring myself and taking the bike to a proper workshop. I'll be out of pocket but at least my pride and joy will be safe in my care.Similar opinion? Service department
Just had my mine and my wifes mountain bikes serviced by Colin at the south melbourne store. I have to say my experience from the moment I walked Into the store with what were 2 very much neglected once loved comp bikes Colin took over and with interested scrutiny, came up with a cost effective way of getting them back to a condition where we can enjoy them again. Colins passion and "can do" attitude is a credit to himself and the store lucky enough to have him.
I'll be back and will recommend in a heartbeat anyone who is looking for bike service.

They feel solid when riding, The store sales person suggested them 6 months ago and she was right.

Bait and switch, incompetent bike servicing and bad attitude.
I needed a new wheel and a bike service. The mechanic recommended a particular wheel brand and a hub. A few things went wrong:
1) I live just a block away from the shop. After I rode and parked the bike at home, a few minutes later, I heard leaking air (bike wasn't moving at all). Brought this back the next morning, and the mechanic told me that I was a puncture and not a tube pinch. That's fine. Not going to argue here...
2) While at the shop, I also brought up that I realised that the hub was an inferior brand and hot the one he promised. I...Read more
still paid the quoted price though. His reply was that he this particular hub would be better for my use and then went on to say there wasnt any difference between both the wheel hubs. If there wasn't any difference, then why tell me that this is better for me? He then went on to say that he is a mechanic and not a sales person. Not sure why that's relevant to a customer. Realise I was getting nowhere and wasting my time... I left. 3) Rode back to work in the afternoon on the same day and felt I had to pedal a lot faster to reach cruising speed. Looked back at my gears and saw that it would only shift to the 3rd smallest gear. Play around with the gears up and down, still wouldn't shift down to the fastest gear.Similar opinion? Cannot be Faulted
Purchased a set of Fulcrum racing Zeros on-line and chose the local store to pick up as the delivery option. Received a call from the store within 15 mins of placing order. Competitive pricing with OS retailers with the added bonus of getting your goods quicker.

No customer service, expensive and absolutely the worst of everything!
The guys at this shop have absolutely no customer service when we came in the shop. They made us wait for more than half an hour and no one even acknowledged that they are on their way.
Finally after we booked in and spent $160 for the basic service plus parts and the very next day the chain broke.
They offered no assistance and just don't care and actually said well that is the bad luck.
The worst luck we ever had is to come into the the 99 Bikes shop in Ascot Vale Victoria!
DO NOT GO THERE! 99 Bikes in Ascot Vale is the WORST!

Poor quality bikes and service
I have never had a bike that has had so many problems so soon after purchase. Wheel spokes started to fall out after 4 weeks. Took 99 bikes 5 attempts to rectify the problem. The gears totally failed after 7 months and had to be replaced. Gears never worked properly until I had the bike serviced at Quality Bike Repairs in Surrey Hills, then as a final insult the pedals broke and when I took the bike back to 99 bikes l was told "what do you expect, the bike is nearly 12 months old." Will buy my next bike elsewhere.

Its Not My Business- I Don't Care
Incompetent staff – couldn’t be bothered! Needed to twist their arm to try and sell me some tyres. Fitted electronic speedo to a previous purchased bike, doesn’t work properly, didn’t even set the correct time on the device however didn’t forget to charge me! Must have got a staff member that’s been there too long and no passion or drive for customer service.

Great bike store
I was in the market for a new bike and went to a couple of stores in my area for test rides. I'd narrowed the search down to one bike in a store very close to where I live but they didn't have it in my size and I was told if they ordered it in I'd have to buy it. No thanks :-/. I googled the bike I was after and found 99 Bikes in Fitzroy North. They offered the same bike at a much better price plus I was under no obligation to keep the bike they ordered in if it didn't fit me. They were very friendly and helpful and got the bike in for me really quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Awful customer service
My husband called and put a deposit on a bike for our young daughter. All was fine on the phone. When he went to pick it up, the guy basically just shoved it at him said "here." The front brake caliper was way too open (making the bike unsafe), there was no air in the tyres, the bell was loose, and there was something caught in the rear sprocket. My husband asked the guy if this was normal to deliver a bike that has clearly not been checked. He said it may have been sitting on the floor for a while. Really? So, you don't check the basics ...Read more
like tyre pressure before handing a bike over, even when you've taken a deposit on it so you know someone will be coming to collect it? The guy took our money with a grunt and not even a "thank you." Shocking customer service. AWFUL experience. Now that we have the bike home, we've discovered there's a part missing. I'll be calling the store tomorrow.Similar opinion?
