Poor workmanship
Bought this van as we thought it was value for money. Comfortable and easy to tow. TV antenna was incorrectly fitted to the booster, no reception, electrician found three different wires joined and replaced with one. Water pressure poor. Blew the hot water cylinder, what a job to remove and replace, van was built around it. Water coming up in shower was fixed by replacing outlet with a bigger pipe. Toilet pipe also came off and flooded the van. Fly screens hard to clean and now windows take a bit to keep open. Removed awning as was too flimsy to carry the weight of an annexe, but apart from no help from the manufacturers, we still love our van.

Nothing but problems.
We have been very disappointed with our Owen Limited. The light well over the bed has leaked badly twice. Had to be temporarily patched in the middle of the night both times. Had a gas leak near stove and campers could smell when walking past. As previously stated by others, after sales service is terrible. Shower door has fallen down a couple of times. We also had the trapping holding up our water tank and my hubby had to make another set of straps using stronger metal and 4 bolts instead of 2. We rely on lots of longer screws with glue...Read more
added to strengthen. Most of the trimmings have had to reglued. The camp kitchen has never fitted with gaps on sides and bottom. The lining of the camp kitchen is now flaking off. We are stuck with it as cannot afford to replace. The table and seating is very uncomfortable. The one plus is that it looks lovely inside. Altogether, a bad experience.Similar opinion? poor quality
Quality control non existant. Numerous problems. Although manufacturer still agreed to warranty work when van 3 years old 3 years of continuing problems forced me to sell van at big loss. As I spoke to fellow travellers it seems any Avan owner experienced simmilar problems. Last owner i spoke to had van only six months old and had it for sale due to problems with van and dealer. The van towed well, looked good but if only Avan built vans to the quality the manufacturer beliefs they are.

Bad Mistake
De-laminating inside next to fridge. Had to replace all drawer runners. Emptying sink fills shower recess. Vanity came adrift. Edging came off locker doors and cupboard doors. Pressure reducing valve froze. Cupboard door push locks were ALL replaced. NO local dealer in WA, so have to rely on Melbourne. That's a whole other story.

The OWEN HT 4yrs On
Few initial problems. Wiring on fridge faulty. Water connection to rear of Toilet faulty. When town water connected fitting come adrift. Van floor covered in water. When sink is drained of water the toilet floor is covered with sink water. I have fixed these problems with a few minor adjustments. Workmanship is not up to scratch.

great van but!!!!
bought a new Owen late December. In the shake down electric hot water doesn't work, struts on bed fell off and draw slides all came away. The van tows well and is well laid out just a shame the lack of attention to detail and poor workmanship lets it down badly. For the sake of a few more screws and some liquid nails and a quality control department these vans would be exceptional value. Off to Bunnings to buy a range of screws, battery drill and several tubes of liquid nails.

Good van. !&#@! service
Ordered Oct 2013. Deposit paid. Contract delivery time, April May 2014. Rang and enquired about delivery. Told June. Rang again, told July. Rang again, told August. Eventually they rang (First time) an we picked it up late August. Only excuse was supply problems. Overall van is very good. I have fixed all the warranty jobs myself as I never want to see them or listen to their lies again. Air conditioner sounds like a jumbo landing on the roof.

HT Owen 609 adventure pack 2011 20 ft
We are a couple of grey nomads living in our HT OWEN 609 and on a lap around the block..We were down to two vans ... the Jayco Starcraft offroader or the OWEN 609 adventure pack with annex. We chose the Avan because it's a nice roomy van, great to tow. Nice clean lines, light weight, good layout. Needed a few mods but...I have fitted the mandatory 150 mil plastic annex pole holder to the rear bumper, a stereo- DVD player, TV, outside radio antenna, extra battery with 200 watt solar panel, 95 liter drinking water tank, alloy edging on shelv...Read more
es to stop items rolling off, sink cover, 1200 watt inverter, annex light that can be switched on from inside!!!, 9 KG gas bottles, moved jockey wheel mount forward to outside of draw bar allowing jerry can rack to be mounted on old 4 KG bottle mounts, reversing camera, partition under bed for reinforcement when shagging and to stop items finding their way into the batteries, water pump, transformer section . The brand new micro wave made all the right noises but did not heat so had to be replaced plus the cupboards would not take coat hangers.. this was fixed by removing the false back and moving the coat hanger rod back 75 cm. plus it then left the shelf exposed so I screwed a couple plastic containers on to keep odd bits in. We are happy with our choice so far. But boot leaks!! Price.. most vans with the same layout are 20-30 grand dearer...Large fridge, roomy, uncluttered interior, feeling of space, nice bathroom, comfy queensize bed ..plenty cupboard space. Tows beautifully. Smart looks. 4 KG Gas bottles to small, jockey wheel winder fowls on gas bottles, plastic door with no security screen, Window fly screens .. to close the window I have to open the screen letting all the bugs in !!!6 comments
We have the Charlotte, same deal, boot leaks!!
And you're still happy with it even having to do all those mods ! I would have thought the majority of them are simply due to poor design

How does the gas hot water system work? not getting hot water

I'm not sure ... ours is OK .... look in instruction manual for gas switch location.
Done all that does not explain very much
It is probably the temp valve under the bed they are poor quality that's why avan use them. Wouldn't ask your avan dealer they are only paid to work not to think. I have repaired more avans than anyone in Australia.

I have a problem with the inlet valve, we cannot get water into the van only way we can get water is thru the pump and and holding tanks. We cannot go on mains as it doesn't go in .The hose connections are round the right way can't find any kinks under van or under bed only .I believe that the inlet valve is just on the inside under the cupboard, is the valve spring loaded? And should I be able to push it in

There is a shuttle valve under the bed - it will need to be taken apart and freed up - they get a tiny piece of dirt into them and jam the shuttle valve from moving freely to allow town water or van tanks to operate. Best to always have an inline (carbon) filter when utilizing town water as this seems to eliminate the problem.
We had the same problem. The filler pipe in the van was kinked up in a big loop. Avan had to cut the pipe shorter so water actually flowed down hill and not up.
We had the same problem. The filler pipe in the van was kinked up in a big loop. Avan had to cut the pipe shorter so water actually flowed down hill and not up.our preasure reducer valve blocked up aswell and i replaced it with a tap and bought a plastic one from bunnings that fits on the tap for about $10.

Lack of bench space for preparing food is another problem we have found. Skylight needs tinting to stop heat and too bright sunlight coming in. . Blinds very flimsy. Shower compartment could be a little wider.. say 150 mil
