Beware, the manufacturer Bayer purchased Monsanto. This is troubling to say the least. Other brands by Bayer include Advantage, Advantix, Drontal, Kiltix, Seresto and Vetadine

This product is fantastic. So easy to use. No trying to get your dog to swallow any pills. All you do is put it on the back of his neck and presto...all finished.

Gave my little dog a dose two days ago. He reacted badly with very red skin, as he is very sensitive. Two days later he is less sensitive but not perfect. Still scratching quite a lot. As to its efficacy, it killed all his fleas, or most of them, within 24 hours. The ones I saw were very unhealthy. Unfortunately after 48 hours he has quite a few healthy, active fleas. I have vacuumed but we have a bit of a flea problem at the moment. I knew fleas would get back on him, but I expected them to die when they did, just like the first lot. In the f...
Read moreirst 24 hours most of the dying fleas hadn't bitten him. Now the fleas on him have evidently bitten him because they're plump and well-fed, and they're not dying. I agree, this product kills fleas. However, if it only works for 24 hours and then is worn out, it is very poor value. The jury is still out because I also powdered him with diatomaceous earth, which soaks up the oil from his coat and makes him lovely and white and clean. Unfortunately the Advocate spreads through the sebaceous glands and so in soaking up the oil I may have soaked up the active Advocate. I have 3 doses so I will wait a couple of weeks and do him again to see if it lasts longer this time.I brought this on Friday and applied it to my cats and I noticed the next day that my cats had a scab and thier hair has fallen out not happy about this as I paid $90.20 for it and it has hurt my cats

I gave Advocate to my cat 2 days ago. He had some local redness and I thought he was a bit lethargic, but he is pretty normal now and never lost his appetite, which would be a sign. He had lots of fleas and in about 12 hours I could only find one. He still seems to scratch a bit so it may not wipe them right out, but he definitely does not have the flea burden he had. I've tried a lot of products and found that they didn't work at all (like Nexgard) or worked for years and then stopped (like Comfortis, sadly) and this is the best I've tried in ...
Read moreyears. I am going to get it for my dog next, as I have a much more serious problem with him. I'll tell the vet if it works, and I recommend people give the vet feedback on products which do or don't work so they can guide others. Not they ever admit that things don't work - they and the manufacturers will tell you it's your fault, and you need to get rid of the fleas in the environment, because it won't actually work if there are fleas around! If there weren't any fleas, why would you be giving it to them? I have had this kind of conversation with vets for years now, but I suppose they're there to sell stuff. They always say that no-one else has complained, which is not true. Anyway, I'm wondering how they're going to find an excuse for it actually working when there are still fleas in the environment!
I gave advocate to my 8 year old cat a week ago and she has been unwell since. She's normally a very talkative and cuddly cat with set routines that she never misses, eg coming to bed in the evening for her bedtime cuddles, and waking me up at 4:30 am demanding breakfast. Since a week, she's suddenly sleeping in a cupboard in the spare bedroom, doesn't show up for bedtime, runs away when I try to carry her to bed, and doesn't wake me up for breakfast anymore. She looks lethargic and acts depressed, also seems frightened (not like her at all), d...
Read moreoesn't talk a lot anymore, and her rare meows sound croaky. Other routines have suddenly changed as well and she mostly just hides away in her cupboard now. It's breaking my heart to see her like that. She's eating and drinking though, so I haven't gone to see a vet yet. I thought that giving her space and time to get better (with offers for cuddles and checking up on her) is the best thing, but after reading the other posts I'm getting really scared. I used this product before and she never liked it. But usually the reaction just lasted a day. They were similar (hiding, not wanting to be touched, lethargic) but never as severe or prolonged as now. I suspect she may have managed to ingest some of the flee treatment through cleaning herself? It was applied correctly at the neck. Not sure whether other products are much better but I'll definitely won't do this again to my cat!- 11 reviews

I've been using Advocate, as recommended by my vet and local pet store for the past 6 years for my 9kg dog with no problem at all. It is an easy monthly application on the back of the dog's neck (where it can not be licked), no more struggle of feeding the wormer.
In all honestly, I have not had any worms/flea problem so can not have a say whether the product is actually able to kill them, but can at least see it's effective in keeping the worms and fleas away.
The only downside of this product is the higher price tag. But unless if I encounter any problems myself, I will still be using advocate and recommending it to others.

We have a 40 kg male german shepherd and have used this product since we rescued him 2.5 years ago. He had a few fleas when we got him from the rescue shelter, but after giving him advocate, hoovering the carpet twice a day for a week and flooding the garden to get rid of any potential flea-breeding sites - no fleas ever since! He is on a raw food diet, so I do not know if this helps with the treatments absorption and ability to work. I have never seen the red (large dog) advocate in our pet stores, but use the blue (medium dog) packet, one tube once a month after checking the dosage with the vet and our dog has not had any problems.

Having just bought a new puppy I felt guilty that I had not wormed my much loved 7 year old maltese/Shitzu for many months. Shortly after treating him he was playing like the puppy, noticeably much more active and a renewed bounce in his step.

Today I treated my 10 year old cat with Advocate. Since the treatment, she has been lethargic, just wants to sleep all the time, clumps of fur have been falling out, has become dehydrated and does not want to eat whatsoever. Her third eyelid in both eyes started showing. Contacted a 24 hour vet as I thought she was getting very sick and was about to fork out even more money when my partner suggested that she may have had a reaction to Advocate. Poor thing had to have a shower to wash it off (thankfully not a lot had been absorbed) and now she is back to normal. If this product gives my cat this sort of reaction I won't be purchasing it again.

I have been using this product on both my dogs - Border Collie and a X Border Collie/Kelpie since they were pups and are now over 10 yrs old. So simple to apply with the pipettes and dogs are more than happy to sit still as product is applied and they have never had any adverse reactions to this. I always buy the product online as it is so much cheaper than buying from the local vet. Would highly recommend this product as so much easier than trying to shove a tablet or chewy cube down their throats.

Soon after treatment (Advocate) my much loved (indoor) cat Megs lost the use of her back legs and the next day lost her sight she did not recover. Bayer did not care.

Have used this for the past year no issues. My cat does not like tablets and last one he went off his food for the day. I will continue to use advocate.
Great as it does heartworm aswell if used monthly.
Bought advocate based on recommendations at city farmers that this is their best selling item and does all worms and fleas in a topical application. 12 hours after the dose my dog was irritated and pacing. 24 hours after the dose she had two lots of explosive diarrhea. One lot in my car and she is still not herself. Do not use this product!! I'm going back to using revolution.

This product certainly gets rid of the fleas but both my cats foamed and frothed at the mouth within 60 seconds of application. It gave me quite a scare and failing forcing them to drink water (typical cats!) I washed their mouths out with water. I kept a close eye on both of them for the next 24 hours and they were ok. It did give me a fright though as no other topical flea treatment has had this effect before. After reading other reviews I think I'll steer clear and find an alternative product, just to be on the safe side.

I have used this product over the last 2 years with no problem, I have 4 cats so need something that is easy to use, does fleas & worms, I cannot get a pill down my cat's throats! so this has been the best option, I have tried other brands but they are scratching in no time, so I came back to Advocate & will continue to use
Found a flea on my Yorkie so used Advocate 4 to 10 kilos. She is six kilos. Followed instructions, but two weeks later she still has fleas and it biting and scratching continually. Cost nine pounds for one pipette. Useless.

Have 2 dogs both similar weight. One is happy to have this with no perceived side effects, but the other slinks away and was not his usual happy self the previous month. This time around severe reaction, vomiting, restless, very unhappy. Wiped as much as I could off after about 4 hours of vomiting, etc and after a couple of more heaves, gave him some food and he seemed to finally settle down. Took about 12 hours for him to be happy again. No lasting side effects but will not be using it on him again. Will be changing for both dogs to another product - sorry Advocate, but have not seen this type of reaction with any other product over the 30 years I have had dogs. Product works, just don't want to risk it.
Same reaction as for everybody. Foam, voimit, fill exhausted, after a few days of multiple injection of any type at the vet, still looks dying. Don't eat or drink. Don't poo. Barely moves and heavily breathes. The only think I should add, we gave her medicine and left for 9 days unattended (after the foam reaction), she only received food from a landlord. She looks exhausted but true problems began after antibiotics prescribed internally. Maybe coincidence, but be warned.
This product was sold to me by my vet - I asked for the drug that i know works for my cat but this is what they were currently stocking. Immediately after application my cat became extremely agitated, licking himself and vomited. He foamed at the mouth for some time, then drooling uncontrollably. I phoned the emergency vet who advised to wash the product off with soapy water and try to wash his mouth out to stop him swallowing more. He didn't sleep all night, was washing his whole body constantly and was otherwise lethargic and seemed to have t...
Read morerouble coordinating his limbs. I gave him the product at about 8pm, a small amount of food at 4.30am and finally at 5am he got into bed with me and seemed able to sleep. The next morning he was still drooling and seemed lethargic, I'm so worried about damage to his internal organs and the vet has asked for him to come in as soon as possible. Not only should vets not be carrying or promoting this product, going on the awful stories here, it is definitely not safe to be on the market for cats or dogs!My dog has reacted to this before but manufacturers advise said it unlikely it this product. Used again and it's happened again. My dogs mood changed and she anxious yet low in mood and lying down all the time. She has had gastric rumblings and been off her food. Today bloody/mucus diarrhea. Going to the vets...Again Manufacturer say it's not the Advocate. But nothing else has changed and this has been three times now. I won't use this again. I think they should be more open to possible reactions in animals. There seem to be a great many online.

I saw this product on special and decided to purchase a pack to avoid having to go through the hassles associated giving my cat pills for worms etc.
However the next day my cat developed very loose bowel motions and this caused me to take him to my vet after it continued for a while. I questioned my vet and asked her if she thought Advocate could have caused this problem as the bowel problem only began after I dosed my cat with Advocate and she replied that this could possibly be an adverse reaction to this product and she also prescribed so...
Read moreme medication and advised me to ensure my cat was drinking plenty of fluids while this health problem persisted. This health problem with my cats loose bowel motions persisted for a full 4 weeks until the dosage of Advocate had wore off and this product was completely out of his body. Since then my cats bowel motions are completely normal and this loose bowel motion problem has never returned. I am very strongly convinced Advocate was the cause of this problem and I will most certainly NEVER use this product again.I gave my poodle X Tibetan Spaniel advocate and within half an hour he was so irritable, shaking and legs were giving way. I washed the area where I put the advocate and it took him around 8 hours to settle down and get back to his normal self.
Looking back 6 months ago... We had a midnight trip to the vet when he started convulsing and shaking, he stayed in the vet overnight on the drip but they couldn't figure out what was wrong. It's only now I realise I gave him advocate that morning but didn't even think that it could have been the issue. Will never put this on any pet ever again, just looking at some of the reviews this is not a one off and I don't know how they can continue to see this poison.

Advocate is a cat lovers dream! So easy to worm and flea the cat in one go.. Only downside is it doesn't cover tape worm so I had to purchase another product for that. Easy to use & no ill side effects for my cats.
If your dog or young pup has fleas no product will automatically get rid of them. Please keep in mind that all these products are used and crsted as preventatives meaning it will take a little bit of time to be effective as a "cure" if an animal already has fleas or worms :)
Fleas reproduce within 72 hours and all stages must be killed (egg larve and adult) in order to break the cycle so please dont think it is anything to do with the product if youve tried it once and failed to continue to do so
