Do not use
I used this on my kitten she had a seizure and was trembling for a week on a drip at vets she is ok now.
It smells potent vets won't say it was the advocate but I will never use again.
I also gave it to my two older cats (I use the purple pack on them) they vomit every time.
I have thrown both packets in the rubbish.
Do not use it.

Does two jobs in one!
Bayer Advocate for Dogs AND Cats is very easy to apply, and with worm treatments being so bothersome to use, this two in one for fleas and worms, is a blessing.
It's a relief to use this year round because it's worry free
A tip: I buy for my dog and cat, online, it's much cheaper that way.

people need to do more research!!!!
the one thing i am noticing from all of the reviews on all of the different brands is the lack Knowledge on the breed of animal its self! i have 2 cats and a dog and they don't use the same flea, tick & worming due to having different sink types people RESEARCH your breed before you take anyone's opinion into consideration even the vet at the end of the day they still get kick backs from the companies if the promote one brand over the over! with my dog he can only use Advocate as it doesn't give him pink Belly and the others are more likely to ...Read more
upon further investigation, one of my cats can use any thing however i choose to use revolution as that is what the animal shelter i got her from was using so why change something that is still working, lastly my 18 year old cat never had any issues when he was younger but as he has gotten older he has developed a skin irritation to fleas which then when ever i used a flea treatment would flair is skin up so i had to stop using it, i went on a researching mission and found that an alternative to pesticide treatments is Apple cider vinegar and coconut oil to help the flea and ticks. Do research before you buy don't just trust what everyone else says even the vet, you know your pet better than they do!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Manufacturer merged with Monsanto
Beware, the manufacturer Bayer purchased Monsanto. This is troubling to say the least. Other brands by Bayer include Advantage, Advantix, Drontal, Kiltix, Seresto and Vetadine

So so
Gave my little dog a dose two days ago. He reacted badly with very red skin, as he is very sensitive. Two days later he is less sensitive but not perfect. Still scratching quite a lot. As to its efficacy, it killed all his fleas, or most of them, within 24 hours. The ones I saw were very unhealthy. Unfortunately after 48 hours he has quite a few healthy, active fleas. I have vacuumed but we have a bit of a flea problem at the moment. I knew fleas would get back on him, but I expected them to die when they did, just like the first lot. In the f...Read more
irst 24 hours most of the dying fleas hadn't bitten him. Now the fleas on him have evidently bitten him because they're plump and well-fed, and they're not dying. I agree, this product kills fleas. However, if it only works for 24 hours and then is worn out, it is very poor value. The jury is still out because I also powdered him with diatomaceous earth, which soaks up the oil from his coat and makes him lovely and white and clean. Unfortunately the Advocate spreads through the sebaceous glands and so in soaking up the oil I may have soaked up the active Advocate. I have 3 doses so I will wait a couple of weeks and do him again to see if it lasts longer this time.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good so far
I gave Advocate to my cat 2 days ago. He had some local redness and I thought he was a bit lethargic, but he is pretty normal now and never lost his appetite, which would be a sign. He had lots of fleas and in about 12 hours I could only find one. He still seems to scratch a bit so it may not wipe them right out, but he definitely does not have the flea burden he had. I've tried a lot of products and found that they didn't work at all (like Nexgard) or worked for years and then stopped (like Comfortis, sadly) and this is the best I've tried in ...Read more
years. I am going to get it for my dog next, as I have a much more serious problem with him. I'll tell the vet if it works, and I recommend people give the vet feedback on products which do or don't work so they can guide others. Not they ever admit that things don't work - they and the manufacturers will tell you it's your fault, and you need to get rid of the fleas in the environment, because it won't actually work if there are fleas around! If there weren't any fleas, why would you be giving it to them? I have had this kind of conversation with vets for years now, but I suppose they're there to sell stuff. They always say that no-one else has complained, which is not true. Anyway, I'm wondering how they're going to find an excuse for it actually working when there are still fleas in the environment!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Cat acting strange after treatment
I gave advocate to my 8 year old cat a week ago and she has been unwell since. She's normally a very talkative and cuddly cat with set routines that she never misses, eg coming to bed in the evening for her bedtime cuddles, and waking me up at 4:30 am demanding breakfast. Since a week, she's suddenly sleeping in a cupboard in the spare bedroom, doesn't show up for bedtime, runs away when I try to carry her to bed, and doesn't wake me up for breakfast anymore. She looks lethargic and acts depressed, also seems frightened (not like her at all), d...Read more
oesn't talk a lot anymore, and her rare meows sound croaky. Other routines have suddenly changed as well and she mostly just hides away in her cupboard now. It's breaking my heart to see her like that. She's eating and drinking though, so I haven't gone to see a vet yet. I thought that giving her space and time to get better (with offers for cuddles and checking up on her) is the best thing, but after reading the other posts I'm getting really scared. I used this product before and she never liked it. But usually the reaction just lasted a day. They were similar (hiding, not wanting to be touched, lethargic) but never as severe or prolonged as now. I suspect she may have managed to ingest some of the flee treatment through cleaning herself? It was applied correctly at the neck. Not sure whether other products are much better but I'll definitely won't do this again to my cat!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Easy to apply
I've been using Advocate, as recommended by my vet and local pet store for the past 6 years for my 9kg dog with no problem at all. It is an easy monthly application on the back of the dog's neck (where it can not be licked), no more struggle of feeding the wormer.
In all honestly, I have not had any worms/flea problem so can not have a say whether the product is actually able to kill them, but can at least see it's effective in keeping the worms and fleas away.
The only downside of this product is the higher price tag. But unless if I encounter any problems myself, I will still be using advocate and recommending it to others.

Great for our dog
We have a 40 kg male german shepherd and have used this product since we rescued him 2.5 years ago. He had a few fleas when we got him from the rescue shelter, but after giving him advocate, hoovering the carpet twice a day for a week and flooding the garden to get rid of any potential flea-breeding sites - no fleas ever since! He is on a raw food diet, so I do not know if this helps with the treatments absorption and ability to work. I have never seen the red (large dog) advocate in our pet stores, but use the blue (medium dog) packet, one tube once a month after checking the dosage with the vet and our dog has not had any problems.

I FEEL BETTER
Having just bought a new puppy I felt guilty that I had not wormed my much loved 7 year old maltese/Shitzu for many months. Shortly after treating him he was playing like the puppy, noticeably much more active and a renewed bounce in his step.

Never using again
Today I treated my 10 year old cat with Advocate. Since the treatment, she has been lethargic, just wants to sleep all the time, clumps of fur have been falling out, has become dehydrated and does not want to eat whatsoever. Her third eyelid in both eyes started showing. Contacted a 24 hour vet as I thought she was getting very sick and was about to fork out even more money when my partner suggested that she may have had a reaction to Advocate. Poor thing had to have a shower to wash it off (thankfully not a lot had been absorbed) and now she is back to normal. If this product gives my cat this sort of reaction I won't be purchasing it again.

Easy, once a month product
I have been using this product on both my dogs - Border Collie and a X Border Collie/Kelpie since they were pups and are now over 10 yrs old. So simple to apply with the pipettes and dogs are more than happy to sit still as product is applied and they have never had any adverse reactions to this. I always buy the product online as it is so much cheaper than buying from the local vet. Would highly recommend this product as so much easier than trying to shove a tablet or chewy cube down their throats.

Advocate is terrible!
Bought advocate based on recommendations at city farmers that this is their best selling item and does all worms and fleas in a topical application. 12 hours after the dose my dog was irritated and pacing. 24 hours after the dose she had two lots of explosive diarrhea. One lot in my car and she is still not herself. Do not use this product!! I'm going back to using revolution.

Works on fleas but side effects to be aware of!
This product certainly gets rid of the fleas but both my cats foamed and frothed at the mouth within 60 seconds of application. It gave me quite a scare and failing forcing them to drink water (typical cats!) I washed their mouths out with water. I kept a close eye on both of them for the next 24 hours and they were ok. It did give me a fright though as no other topical flea treatment has had this effect before. After reading other reviews I think I'll steer clear and find an alternative product, just to be on the safe side.

easy to use
I have used this product over the last 2 years with no problem, I have 4 cats so need something that is easy to use, does fleas & worms, I cannot get a pill down my cat's throats! so this has been the best option, I have tried other brands but they are scratching in no time, so I came back to Advocate & will continue to use
