You get what you pay for!

published

I'd give Aldi 9/10 for the taste of their 'pods' but the machine is not made to last. We only use it 3 days out of 7 but the older model only lasted 10 months. The 'new' version has done better lasting 12 months but it's into the bin now. It only half fills a cup before sending the rest into the empty capsule container. Pods also get jammed and can't be extracted. We're done with the Expressi !! So much for the 2 year Guarantee, it's worthless.

Good but serious issues

published

Coffee is excellent, apart from some faulty pods it is easy to use. The serious problem is Aldi sold machine cleaners and descalers as a once off special, but now they are no longer available. Friends machine blocked up and he had to buy a new machine, so be warned if you buy one. Seems they have no intention to restock cleaning products. Shame on you Aldi

Multiple problems after a short time

published

Makes great coffee, when it works properly. Often a small amount of coffee goes into the cup, and the rest of the water goes into the waste pod chamber. Often pods get stuck, and occasionally they fall straight through when trying to load them. This model is vastly inferior to the older style !

Don't hurry to return your machine

published

I returned my machine as it stopped working. When I contacted the company they convinced me to try machine with new box of pods. Turns out there were some faulty coffee pods. I didn't believe it at first. I put all of the ones that didn't work into a box and returned them. All of my faulty pods are gone and I have not had a hiccup since. They seemed to have too much air in them. I was willing to try because this machine is the simplest and the best. I wonder how many machines have gone back unnecessarily.

great price & performance

published

Purchased this machine after several positive recommendations from friends. Great price, compared with other machines on offer. Have had it for over a year and it's still working great, no issues. It makes great coffee, with or without (soy)milk. The pods come in an impressive variety of strengths and tastes, and so cheap. Very happy with this purchase and highly recommend.

Great coffee for cents a cup

published

Simple and quick....coffee is excellent. I've had none of the problems outlined by others but have one of my own. Machine attracts tiny flying insects despite daily cleaning and applying paper coaster for tray...any suggestions out there? Have bought units for daughter and granddaughter and there are no complaints there either.

Simply works

published

While not a huge coffee drinker, I've had this machine for years now and it just keeps on ticking. Haven't even descaled it once and still no issues with pressure or watered down coffee.

Really can't fault it on anything other than wishing the coffee pods tasted a little nicer.

Happy with it now

published

I found it very easy to clean & use. The coffee is excellent as good as our expensive machine brews & much easier. The very big downside is the slowness of the extraction after the first cup has been brewed. We now pierce the capsule many times with a drawing pin or large needle perhaps 10 times before loading & has made a big difference to the speed of the liquid extraction. Prior to doing this we returned several to ALDI. ALDI has always obliged with the returns Poss.

Newer Coffee Pods

published

I am having problems with the newer coffee pods. The coffee only flows into the cup for a short time, then it goes into the used pod chamber. I was about to take my machine back, but read how others were having the same problem. So, obviously it is not my machine. Aldi needs to get onto this quickly.

water not flowing through pod

published

Im over the aldi machines, coffee might be cheap but so is the workmanship of this machine. coffee just ends up flowing into the waste container now. arggghh. had the older version which lasted much longer and also had a larger water container. definitely going to look elsewhere for a better quality machine

Great coffee machine!

published

We use the machine several times a day - seven days a week! Good selection of coffee pod strengths to suit all taste buds. Budget friendly. Easy to use and clean. Doesnt take too much bench space which was important to me as my kitchen is tiny. Recommended to my sister in law who is a coffee snob/ hipster type, and she was secretly impressed.

Form, function but failing...

published

I have always been very happy with the taste of Aldi coffees and constantly rave about the value... however their new machine appears to have a design flaw. Most of the time the coffee comes out ok, but occasionally it stops altogether. I believe the coffee exits the pod via a channel from the centre puncture hole found on the used pod. This channel appears to get blocked by the pod when the hot water softens the plastic, which would explain the flow starting then coming to a stop after a few seconds. It doesn't happen with all pods but the machine is going back regardless. Lucky I still have the old one...

Pure rubbish

published

Exactly as the others have described . Not hot enough and the machine struggles to push a coffee out with most of the water coming out of the capsule ejection port.
I think this is a design fault. Called the 1800 number regarding returning machine and was told the only way to return is by mail to them - WRONG. called fair trading was told that i can return machine to Aldi as i purchased from them and therefore my contract is with Aldi.
Be aware of your rights people and dont be misled by store policy. Australian consumer law rules in Australia.
If its a major fault you can opt for a refund or replacement.
I cant beleive they are misleading people like this.

Great, for the price and swiss engineered quality

published

Can't fault it, nice selection of coffee options. hot choc is junk but the coffee is good.

The occasional limited addition pods make a nice change.

Hopefully they will release organic pods soon, then i can replace my old style machine in which i freshly grind organic coffee for.

Apparently coffee is heavily pesticide (not sure if true but the organic coffee is ultra smooth and never as bitter IMO).

I really enjoy the Aldi organic dark chocolate.

Great value for money

published

Value for money is an assessment of: effectiveness (i.e. ability to do the job), price, and risk. On the effectiveness scale, this machine (bought May 2016 - limited edition with red sides) is magnificent. The coffee is just as good as you'll ever find in any cafe/restaurant. Price: $79. How affordable is that! Risk: if it makes ~20 cups of coffee, it will have paid for itself. I rate that low risk.

The best household purchase in 2016.

We're now in Oct 2022 and this little coffee machine is still going strong. We had a house full of guests on the long weekend and it didn't miss a beat. It's a great unit and it definitely has delivered value for money.

Probably drinking too much now!

published

I was lucky enough to get one for my Bday last weekend - it's great! easy to use, easy to clean, coffee tastes good! Great product. Also had good comments from friends/family that looks much better than their "older" versions of it!

Only problem is I have been drinking too much coffee (hence the 10.50pm review! haha)

Good but loses because of the waste it creates.

published

Pros:
Its cheap.
Easy to use.
Cheap pods. Aldi are the cheapest, I keep checking E-Bay etc for the large packs but they are always more expensive per pod.
Cons:
Since they moved the filter to the top in the pod, machine sounds like its struggling.
Annoying drips that quickly fill drip tray.
Requires frequent cleaning and descaling. I get 30 cups max before the red light comes on.
The biggest drawback of all for me is the pods go to landfill. I would rather pay a few dollars more for pods that can be re-cycled or re-filled by the owner.

If it is less than two years old it has warranty so take it back to store, if you don't have the receipt then call caffitaly .
If it's out of warranty then it's dead. Cost more to repair than new one

Expressi Machine 2015 Edition

I have an aldi expressi machine, purchased less than four months ago, the only button that works is the rinse button. I can no longer make a cup of coffee with one press of a button. I have to press the rinse button about five time to get a full cup. Anyone know a fix for this or should I just return?

The idea of these machines is for making lattes or cappuccino which is why it only dispenses a small amount of coffee, I suggest pressing the low button first, then put your pod in and press the button once again.
