I had the same problem with my mums dishwasher. The door handle has a spring loaded switch which will show the symbol - - - to indicate the door is open still. The spring had gone on the handle switch which doesn’t close the contact to the electronic switch hence sending a signal to the display that thinks the door is always open. Switch needs to be repaired or replaced by a service technician. Hope this helps.

Which model is better? The D5424 or the D5436? I have done a "compare" and read reviews.
Does the higher price of the D5436 reflect a better machine? It is hard to tell from reading the specifications. Which specification are actually useful in practice? We have 6 in the family, so does the D5424 hold more? They both say 14 place settings, but the D5424 says for 4+ people.

Suggest you phone ASKO’s customer service and ask them. My experience is limited to the machine described.

Not sure what the price difference is between the 2 models nor the specifications. I do know that the D5424 does what it is supposed to do, unless the D5436 puts the dishes away as well??? We were a family of 4, now down to a family of 2. With the handy "rinse between washes" option we do a wash about every 5 days or so. Maybe with a family of 6 you would have to use it a bit more often. Hope this helps

I have one. The ends of the spinning arms get blocked (lemon pips) etc. the remedy is to pull them off, remove the fitting piece then rinse the inside of the spray arm to remove foreign objects. I have a feeling the filter baskets in this model are s bad design. I never had this problem with my other Asko dishwasher.

Hello. I have an asko dishwasher which is about 15 years old but hasn't had heavy use - the last few washes the drying mode at the end of the cycnr does not turn off - when I do a cycle at the end of the night, the next morning the machine and contents are very hot as the knob is stuck on the drying cycle - it seems to happen when a wash is quite full - any idea what this could be?

Hi Rusty

Good question! After years of using the machine I figured out a way!

I put my dishwashing table on top of cutlery rack, it gives fantastic was results

The tablet is also dissolved ever since i did this, so give it a try!

All the best

Thanks Mika, we will try your method, certainly nothing to lose.
The machine was new in our house when we moved in, but no information came with it and we have just followed basic instruction to date from friends who own a asko.

My ASKO D5424 dishwasher door will not open. Is there a manual release button to allow for it to open as we will most probably need to get a technician out? It had completed a was cycle and now will not open at all.

1 answer
Damo
Damo

Hi Dee, there is a manual release in the centre at the top of the machine. Unlike some machines, you need to depress the release rather than lifting it. This can be done in one of two ways - if you can reach behind the lip of the top of the machine you can depress the latch otherwise you can do this by sliding something between the door and the machine itself. There are two sides to the latch about an inch apart so if you can depress both simultaneously it will open easier, but it can be done by depressing one side only.

Hi there. I have a D5424SS which is showing F12 fault code. It is 4 years old but has done only one wash every couple of months during that time.
When it stops, 2 minutes into the cycle there is water in the bottom so it has been filling.
It would seem unlikely that the fill valve could be faulty after so little use.
Any Ideas before I ring service?

Hi Shannon, have you tried switching the machine off from the electricity? This may recalibrate the machine. Our machine wouldn't start! The technician found that a cockroach had got into the power board.

I think Asko recommends powder detergent for the "shorter" wash cycles. I use the quick cycle (57mins) with powder and have never had a problem. The advantage of using powder is that you can adjust the amount you use. Never more than one small scoop (about 2tsps worth). Hope this is helpful.

Lauren

Yes Asko recommend powder so I don't really have any problems. I do make sure that I wipe dry the dispenser before I put anything in it. If you haven't already call the CS team who might be able to give you some advice.

Use dishwasher powder-cheap, cheerful and it works most times. If the powder is not all used up then clean the rotating arms of pips, seeds, solid scraps of food, etc.

Hi,
my dishwasher does not drain and 5 minutes into the ecco cycle it stops. Flashing waving lines on the time left panel. Cannot restart even after moping up the water left in the bottom. It has worked for ages so all hoses etc should be correct.
Do I take the panel off at the bottom and check for internal flooding?
Pretty disappointed with the quality of this machines washing since we bought it.

I have a ASKO D5424 (2012 model). We have always run the dishwasher on Eco mode. Recently we have noticed the dishwasher has stopped with water remaining in the bottom of the dishwasher (water not pumped from the dishwasher). No error codes were noted on the display panel. I have checked and cleaned all filters and drainage pump impeller as per the ASKO manual. During the most recent event I noted that the dishwasher operated for about 10 minutes then stopped and the "time remaining" on the display had reverted back to 2:00 minutes. Any troubleshooting tips?

not sure I can, but have you checked that the inlet and outlet hoses are correctly fitted - one has to be higher than the other. Our last Asko did this and that is why we upgraded as the part was soooo costly.

Hi Colin, I have not experience this problem with our new Asko DW but it is the main reason why we changed from the old one Westinghouse as the rinse cycle does not end. I would refer to the manual first, check for the basic troubleshooting guide but if the issue is electronic refer it to the service team immediately. I hope this helps.

Hey there, I know your frustrations, I have had a many situations of this frustrating start up. Okay this is what I have found, out on my end. Make sure you don't have wet fingers pressing the start button, it just won't work. It also doesn't like to be pressed hard, it won't work it either, it sure does test your patience. You have to lightly touch it quickly. If you still have problems call the ASKO Customer service care, they are very attentive to your call and they will be able to assist you. Good luck. :)

Hi, we also have the same problem, the lights are on in the display panel. the time on the start button says 2:18 we can not start it or can we adjust any of the settings. the panel seems unresponsive to touch. This problem has been ongoing for about 18 months normally turning machine off at power outlet for a period fixes it, but not this time.

Mr Mojo

Hi, we are currently experiencing this same problem with the start button on our 3 year old D5424. We have had an ASKO tech in today who said it was cockroaches in behind the control panel. He cleaned it out, sprayed it with Raid ran it on the Rinse cycle and left. A few hours later it still doesn't work. We rang him back and he said we'll need a new control panel! I just now started the process under Australian Consumer Law to get the problem rectified. In my opinion any machine, designed for use in this climate, to allow for access by cockroaches into a control panel area, is a major problem. I understand the area behind the control panel can't be sealed completely but surely they can make it bug proof? It may not be such an issue in Scandanavia but in Australia it is virtually impossible to completely rid your house of cockroaches.

Hello Our filter is very hard to clean on our D5424. It gets putrid very quickly and grime even collects under the course filter where it connects to the fine filter. Am I missing something? Our old one only needed cleaning a couple of times a year. This one needs cleaning constantly and I'm worried we'll all get sick!

Is your water untreated? Like on a farm? I am just asking because this might cause the problem as I have no issue with my filter at all, maybe try rinsing any food bits off your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher and making sure you don't put too much food grease in...turn your water temperature up to high if it is not already. hope this helps.

Asko
ASKO A.Asko

Hi Suzanne,

It will state in your use and care guide on how to remove the filter and fit in properly after you have cleaned them, it shows you photos as well. Secondly what you can do is get a descaler from the supermarket and run it through the hottest cycle and that will get rid of any build up of grim on any other residue. Hi Seahorse66,
Thank you for your question. I believe the $150 would be including call out and labour to fit the part. If you choose to purchase the part only, this would be the only way to save the other costs involved. If you decide to order the spare part, please call us on 1300 002 756.

I don't think asko have a great after sales service, apparently I would have to pay the said 100+ call out fee to look at the paint flaking and rust, they've been happy with my great review, it has been a good wasing machine.the housing is just not what i think it should be, aany how apparently i am a poor house keeper and that would be why it's rusted.

Hi Julie,
I would suggest to do a couple hot water washes with a descaling product. Also if you are using a tablet with rinse-aid in it, make sure you are not adding additional rinse-aid as well. I've had button issues for over six months - but as it's intermittent its hard to fix.
