Washing Machines Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of washing machine would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
CeeBeeSouthwest, VIC
Huge, robust machine but design needs improvement. Detergent separator is missing!
This washing machine washes well, clothes come out clean. Looks robust and heavy duty. I also chose this because mainly it has the stainless steel gasket.
However, towels come out unpleasantly rough even when I have tried using more softener.
The detergent separator is missing.
I also think the first compartment and second compartment releases the detergent at the same time, which means the pre-wash is using all the detergent and leaves nothing for the main wash. (As per observation)
Also the softener in the compartment seems to be almo...Read more

If I could give it zero, I would.
Bought machine, machine works well for 3y 4m now it's shaking and making a hell of a noise on spin. Asko say, out of warranty, you pay for service call and depending on what was wrong with it, they might help!
Fair washing machine life for this amount should be ~10 years... Will chase them up and one way or another have it fixed but it's not the point. They shouldn't gouge customers on price selling something that should be premium quality if a, largely 2 person household can break it in 3 odd years - stay clear if I was you!
Purchased in March 2021 at The Good Guys for $1,999.00.

Asko is a disgrace
I purchased the Asko washing machine because it was a 10kg front loader and I have 3 small children. I should have gone Miele but was talked into an Asko and was led to believe it was a luxury brand who stood behind their product and the product was the best on the market. What a lie. I have had this machine for 5 years and it has been nothing but trouble and a continual fight to just get my consumer rights met. When you call Asko they try and avoid any responsibilty for their product not working and try to charge extortionate call out fees to ...Read more
discourage complaints. I only ever wanted a working machine and the only way I could get them to treat me like I wasn't a scammer and to meet their obligations as a retailer was to go to consumer affairs. That government department was amazing. Asko finally recognized that they had to fix the machine. I had 5 visits from an Asko repairman who could not find the fault and agreed that I probably had a lemon. He did change random things that he felt might help, like a door, some pipes etc but I continued to have problems. On the last visit, the water stopped leaking and when asked by consumer affairs if I wanted to push for a replacement I declined because I just wanted my machine to work and now it did. I am an honest person and I wasn't trying to scam a new machine and they'd fixed it, that was perfect. I just wanted it to work. In hindsight, I should have just pushed it. 3 months later, my machine started to leak again. I spoke to Asko and I wrote a letter requesting a replacement. Of course they knew the history of the machine as they had a file on it. They sent a tech guy out again and he couldn't find the fault (of course) and when I requested that they replace it, they stopped responding to my emails. Now the only avenue I have to get my machine to work, is to go to court. The biggest waste of $2500 on a machine that hasn't even lasted 5 years and Asko are a disgrace as to how they treat their legitimate customers. Do not waste your money and time dealing with this company.Purchased in October 2021 at Asko Appliances for $2,500.00.

Is it washed up?
Ah the Asko front loader. If ever a love hate relationship existed with a mechanical product this might be it. I want this machine to be great, I really do. Alas.
It's a great machine. I purchased it because of recurring mould issues on rubber gaskets on another brand. It has a 10kg capacity, is easy to operate, offers great control over the various programs, and is built like a tank, but...
A few months out of the 2 year warranty period, issues appeared. We had a 'wash motor failure' reading. Fortunately a call to the extra-friendly service ...Read more
department arranged a quick call-out and the issue was resolved...with no cost! Out of warranty...no cost! Asko gets 10 points. A week after that, the door locking mechanism was malfunctioning. Again, the helpful service department arranged a visit, and again...no cost since these were not user wear and tear but manufacturing faults. 10 more points Asko. But there's the problem. A 2500 dollar machine shouldn't have issues should it?Purchased in June 2021 at Harvey Norman for $2,500.00.

Asko fiasco
Machine is just twelve months old and door glass has exploded at 1600 rpm. Extremely dangerous, destroyed washing and machine is filled with shards of glass. Asko response after two weeks. 'operator error' will not replace under warranty. Customer service is non existent in Australia. State service managers' words "Good luck sunshine" 'we have many of these new machines doing this" if so why are they not recalled. Note all newer models now have a plastic cover over the glass. Be very very careful, someone is going to get hurt.
Update: Asko have now agreed to repair at their cost. You would think it would be more cost efficient to replace with new unit than expensive repair but what can we do?

Lemon
We were convinced to buy this above a Miele by the salespeople. Wish we had gone with our gut.
Have had terrible trouble with the seals and now the bearings have gone.
Washes well, and has good options for different washes. I especially love the hand wash feature.
For the price compared to the problems we've had I Would not recommend.

This is a dog!
Nothing but problems!! Trying to get it replaced. Had 3 call outs. First the seal then the computer not working meaning the wash could go on for an extra 45 minutes! Not what you want when you are time poor. Would not recommend at all as completely unreliable. Don't buy!

Becoming my laundry friend.
I won’t say that I love this machine but it’s becoming my laundry friend. I have had this machine for over 2 years now. The cons were: 1. In the first 4 months, I required service for a “faulty water outlet” message. After 3rd visit, our water outlet part was replaced under warranty, a lot of people had issues with this part. It has been working really well ever since. When there is a water outlet fault now, there has been an item stuck and removed by me. 2. The other not so favourable aspect of this machine is that the cycles are long. 3. Sock...Read more
s are not clean enough after cycles, but using product has helped this along. 4. Clothes need to be removed immediately after wash cycle or there is an odour. 5. Loading clothes requires delicate work, especially when loading sheets. An “unbalance” error arises if not done properly. Very frustrating when waiting for a cycle to end, only to find that the cycle has this error! 6. The cost of the machine to purchase is not cheap, and encountering these issues makes it almost wishing it wasn’t purchased. The pros, while not as many are: 1. My favourite cycle is easy care, while 1:44 machine time May equate to 2+ hours real time, it’s a cycle that takes everyday clothes and does care for them. 2. Tissues remain in pockets and don’t leave a mess on other items of clothes. Only times tissues escapes are when just sitting out of pockets. I gave it a 4 star as it is a 10kg machine that works well, looks after clothes and service person was genuinely delightful. Asko provide the option of an extended warranty at a cost but would be worthwhile taking as parts are so expensive to replace. It is becoming my laundry friend, but we were off to a rocky start.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The door what is with the door?
did read some reviews before buying and there was mention of issues with the door not closing but I thought they may have been unlucky. I did decide to purchase this machine and guess what that door is doing my head in.
some times it closes but mostly not.
after pressing start you have to stand there and wait for the click and press door in again and more often than not you have to do it again. and sometimes it just bounces open and have real trouble getting it to lock in.
Apart from that a great wash
but THAT DOOR very annoying

$2300- I Got Ripped Off -- ASKO
Well, I have been ripped off again by Asko. This time the washing machine. Last time the $3000 10kg, Dryer--pls read review. I bought the 10KG washing machine March 2015--October 2015, Asko replaced the suspension as machine was knocking against the sides. Now, both the suspension and main bearing need replacing on the washing machine. I rang Asko on 22/1/18, sent service 29/1/18, service advised, machine should be replaced. On 19/2/18, after I kept ringing. Asko, then advised, they will repair machine. Service advised they will pick up m...Read more
achine on 2/3/18, but guy was sick. Today is 9/3/18, washing machine is still here--after 7 or 8 weeks, I am 60 and my wife is 56. We use this washing machine every 2nd day. Asko should hold their head in SHAME. They sell over priced appliances that are no better they cheap rubbish. Would I recommend Asko--NO. Would I buy their appliances again--NEVER. And when will Asko repair my machine, and how long will it last.--?. My problems with the washing machine and dryer will continue until I throw both in the TIP, as when the extended warranty is finished--2020, it will cost me an arm and a leg to repair. As you DO NOT, get 15 or 20 years from the machines, maybe 5 to 7 years.1 comment

Really disappointed with ASKO
I've had this machine less than two years and had quite a few problems with it. I'm very glad I bought the extended warranty. When it works it's superb, so that's something.
My biggest issue is with ASKO's service. It can take a long time for them to send someone out - meanwhile your clothes are rotting in the machine and you can't do any washing. If your machine breaks down mid-cycle it's not really the sort of situation where you can wait a week. Also, when I call, I expect to be able to speak to someone who can schedule a service visit for me, not told that someone will get back to me, which can take days.
I will buy Miele appliances in future. I've had a much better experience with them.

Horrible-nappies come out stained and it rips clothes
We use cloth nappies and desperately needed larger washing machine. So despite all reviews we bought it. Machine isn't faulty, it 'works' as one expects but does very poor job of washing. Baby vomit stains- still there. Nappies done on heavy wash at 90 degrees with all the extra rinses-stains there. I compare it to LG intellowasher that washed nappies perfectly. Normal clothes are ok, they get washed, but i guess any machine would do that. Also not sure about water rating when you have to use extra water and rinses to get the same results as ot...Read more
her machines. ETA: After several washes we noticed that certain types of material comes out with holes in this. In particular soft textures such as viscose or machine washable wool. Goes into the machine fine, comes out with holes (one baby wool sleeping bag that has double layer of wool) came out with holes on the outside but not the inside. We will consider this a waste of 2K and go buy another machine instead.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Towels are like sand paper
Cleans clothes well I can't complain but towels do not come out fluffy they are more like sand paper.
I have tried all options on the programs but they still come out like sand paper.
I e-mailed Asko and informed them that I was not happy with the way the towels come out. Asko made suggestions and I tried all their suggestions but my towels are still like sand paper.
The machine was very quiet in the beginning but the noise level has increased over the year but still quieter than my old top loader.
Also I noticed that the detergent separator was missing when I purchased the machine that's disappointing considering I paid $2498.00 for it.

Problems in less than 1 year
An OK machine but does NOT live up to its brand name. Like the fact that there is no rubber ring and that its fairly compact despite being 10kg. It is also quieter than our previous Electrolux. However, the controls/functions are limited compared to other brands + the detergent tray sometimes fails to empty the water. The most disappointing fact is that we have had 2 warranty problems in less than 12 months (issue 1: door not closing easily and even after being closed, it was still leaking water. issue 2: machine was stopping half-way through t...Read more
he cycle). Both were fixed under warranty, but took a long time to get fixed. Spent almost $70 in laundromat fees, asked for a refund and was advised that Asko do not reimburse laundry costs even though the machine is under warranty. Simply not good enough for a premium brand. I also found the customer service disappointing - call key options are confusing, kept being put through different departments, no option to lodge warranty claim online, call operators sounded disinterested. I think Asko quality is just not there anymore hence $2400 for a washing machine becomes a rip-off.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ok
this washing machine isnt great, but it works to wash clothes. It has broken down a couple of times, and to fix it is very expensive. Next time I would just save up the money to buy a better quality one and that would work better as my washing machine.

Terrible Washer
This is the worst washing machine I've ever owned. I've always owned Miele for all appliances in our house and have been very happy. I was talked into buying the ASKO because it is slightly larger. The machine has never worked since the day I purchased, the water does not drain, dirty water comes back into the washer so the clothes come out worse than they went in. Buyer beware. Skip this and buy a different Brand. Customer service is also terrible.

Disappointing
I've replaced a 10kg LG front loader that wasn't performing as well after about 5yrs, with this 10kg Asko, chosen on the basis of a faultless history my mum had with a 7kg Asko for about 20yrs, in fact it's still going I believe.
I am very disappointed after a few weeks, it doesn't spin very well, tonight a light load + 2 regular bath towels & the towels came out quite wet, & I have found myself re-spinning several loads already, which I think just shouldn't be the case. Cycles are long, timer is strange, says 1minute to go & kept spinning, i...Read more

Great wash every time
This is my second Asko machine- the first lasted 17 years with minimal need to repair. This machine is really quiet compared to the old one and has many different programs to choose from. The wash does take a long Time and with the sensor drum it can often be longer than stated but if you time when you put it on then it isn't an issue. I put a load on in the evening, one before I go to bed and then one in morning if I still have washing. Easy to then hang outside. I love the 2 HR soak especially for my boys football gear which often gets muddy....Read more
I pre soak for 2 hours then a heavy wash- they come out sparking and fresh. Love it! Good wash on clothes and XL enables me to do less loads as more fits in. I wash a lot and have had no issues so far. I asked about the door which had been a previous issue but this has been rectified and I have no leakage. I managed to pick up a seconds from Asko- full warranty but had a dint in front panel. Huge discount and really can't notice in the laundry. No effect to operation ( second is previous display or it has been damaged in transit- never used). I would definitely recommend this product but it does take a long time washing.Similar opinion? Do Not Recommend
I have always used top loaders so when my washing machine of 15 years broke down I was recommended an Asko from The Good Guys. I ended up buying this expensive machine thinking it was worth the money I spent from the sales pitch I got. Took it home was washing well for 1 week then it wouldn't spin the clothes, after the washing cycle finished my clothes were saturated and then it just got worse from there on. A week later it went to Asko service agent and after 1 week they contacted us today and only to be told that the transport bolts were no...Read more
t removed which is why the washing machine wrecked. This was NOT TRUE we DID REMOVE the transport bolts and did the first cycle wash exactly like we were told and what was written in the manual. We kept the transport bolts in case we ever had to move the machine as it is very heavy (which is what the sales guy said to us at the Good Guys). We put the transport bolts back in then moved it out of the house onto the veranda so it could get picked up while we were at work. So they are now saying that the machine could have caused this damage only if the transit bolts were not removed and the machine was used without removal of transit bolts and is not covered under warranty. The machine was a lemon from the start the timer was always out, there was obviously something wrong with the mechanics of the machine. Very unhappy with the customer care consultants they did not call me back when they were supposed to and the lady was very rude DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE PURCHASE AN ASKO. I will be taking this to consumer affairs.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice but expensive
My 4 year old LG broke down and it wasn't worth the repair so we decided to buy a new one. Headed down to our local TGG to check out the latest model. We were aold on the Asko washing machine due to its outstanding looks and visible easy to use control panel. The machine is very silent and easy to operate. There was issues with the door latch but one phone to Asko and the issue was fixed. Highly recommended.

I have an ASKO 7 kg washer which is 6 years old and it started foaming from detergent dispenser and a lot in the machine.
Could you please tell me how to fix it as it took awhile to try and drain it so l could open the door.
Have done more loads and seemed to work properly but last spin still looks like there could be a few suds there that clothes wipe away before finishing and door opens. Machine model is W6448 eco

I bought a 8844, but for some reason the drying performance is getting worse. Could you please let me know what can be the cause?

My washing machine does not have a drying option, so I am unable to answer or help with your question. Perhaps it would be more beneficial to contact the Asko technicians directly for further assistance. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Good luck, I am sure they will resolve this for you.
Asks does not make a washer/dryer combo. The matching dryer is the T884XLCHP. The washer is a W8844XL. i think you've posted under the wrong product.

I have just purchased the 10kg front loader, have always had a top loader and I am struggling with the lack of water although my clothes always come out clean, Guess it will get use to it. My question is does this machine have a fluff/dog hair filter that I need to clean and if so where is it
4 answers
No it does not have a fluff dog hair filter it just goes out the pump into the drain.
It is amazing water saver .
How are finding closing the door ? Does it engage and have no problems getting straight into the programme or do you have reclose etc?
If the machines gets blocked by a Button, coin clip etc there is a little trap door in the front that you open follow instructions in the manual .
hope you are enjoying the machine I have heaps of dogs also .
Hope this has helped
My door does not close very easily and does not engage every time,
Hi there, sorry it took a little while to reply to your question. I have 2 cats (don't hold that against me) but I find that for items such as their sleep blankets, or anything like my kids clothes after they've been holding the cats to place the items dry into the dryer and put these on an air spin in the dryer prior to washing them. Generally, the air spin will not use any heat and will adequately remove all hair fluff prior to washing. This will generally take 10-15 mins, and then wash as needed. With the Asko machine, the only area which needs to be serviced is the trap door in the front as Julie has replied to you. Any issues with this, the friendly service team will happily guide you through. Also, a really useful tip I have, is be sure each month to run a clean cycle on the wash, this will eliminate any built up suds in the Asko machine and ensure its longevity. I also find that when washing sheets etc, instead of using any fabric softener, simple no name vinegar, and a teaspoon of baking soda will leave your sheets/towels etc perfectly clean and they dry better. Each time I get a new bottle of vinegar, I also put in 2 drops of tea tree oil, and a few drops of lavender oil as well. This helps 2 ways, lavender oil will help your sheets dry nice and crease free, and the tea tree oil will deter any nasties likedust mites etc. Hope this helps. It really is a great machine and I know what your saying about the water thing, but over time you'll wonder how you ever live down without it. I find the door on mine is a ok, but again, any issues just call the service team. All the best with it. Kind regards, Eloise
