Disappointing quality control and after sales service
Picked up new Aspire 555 in Aug 2016. 1st night had a bad water leak under sink, next day returned to dealer where leak was fixed but in process of doing repairs to water pump under bed, the bed strut seized and when bed was returned to flat, the fixture anchoring the strut to the bed broke away from timber frame. Water inlet cover on external van wall will not close, table too close to seat - I'm skinny and have to hold my breath to get behind the table, upholstery pattern on seat back not aligned horizontally and door trim is too short leavi...Read more
ng a gap. Have been trying to get the dealer to mail me a new strut but after four weeks of phone calls, no success. So in summary love the design, the value and the towing ability. Don't like quality control and dealer after sales service.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
best van on the market by far
we picked up our aspire 555 this year and have been travelling for 2 months now. we love our 555 and cant really fault it in any. we purchused the van at the big show in feb and found the team a pleasure to deal with we have had a few minor issues (teathing problems) and avans respose has been great. we could not beleive how much is in the van not only for its size buy its weight as well. if you want a light weight but high quality van you cant go passed the avan range and i would highly recomand the team at avan. dont take my word for it get down to a show or even a dealer and check it out

Very happy with aspire 499. Great after sale service by AW RV World
Bought an aspire 499, very happy with it. Nice and light and tows like a dream but most of all it was affordable. We use it to visit family who live in Vic and Wa and just sit it on their front lawn. Also use it for a few weekend trips here and there. We bought it through aw rv world and have nothing but positive things to say about them. We will be looking to getting a new van hopefully soon with an island bed and separate shower toilet, I like the avan frances.

Ohhhh not again
After waiting 6 months for our Aspire 402 hardtop we have had a continual stream of faults wheel tubs rubbed through on our first trip TV antenna wasn't connected, we eventually had to get a digital one so we could get vertical signals, flyscreen were very tight resulting in buttons snapping off and were replaced, cupboard doors wouldn't close, all the cupboards came away from the walls, the aircon stopped working, both taps were faulty, there was a hole in the floor under the bed, the beds collapsed had to be refitted, the microwave cupboard c...Read more
ame away from the wall. We had to replace all the screws in the cupboard doors and draws, window hinges had to be replaced, front boot leaks had to replace the gas struts, the rubber strip on the back had to be reglued, the flywire/blind on the top hatch has torn, we had to replace flywire door also had to put a hook on it so it would stay open, the cords have come loose on the front flyscreen/blind we just have to keep getting it fixed our dealer rv world at wodonga has been very good! Unroadworthy? - lack of dealer action
Quality is hit and miss. Cupboards that refuse to close, windows that won't stay open, table pulled from wall when lent on to close window; and a shower that refuses to drain properly. In April, found out now caravan is technically unroadworthy; off road adventure pack has on road wheel tubs - wheels have worn out both insides of tubs and rubbing on top of tubs. Tyres are as specified on the caravan VIN . Rubbing temporarily fixed by dealer, but its now been 3 months waiting for new tubs to arrive and be retrofitted; also whilst driving on ...Read more
bitumen after temporary fix, front window shades fell off. I suspect the temporary fix is by installing spacers which are illegal in SA. Calls to dealer have same excuse, parts ordered and will be on next deliver,y will ring back and confirm. No one has called back as yet. New excuse now I expect is that dealer is tied up getting ready for next caravan show. There's more to list but not enough space!1 comment

having trouble getting parts
We have been waiting over 4 months for our camp room which should have been with our Aspire 555 when we picked it up. Every time we contact the dealer its just one excuse after another. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve your problem. So far the care factor is zero

Few issues with Avan 499 Aspire
Fly screen (door drops off runner.)Poptop material comes away from top liner in places.Sink flows into shower base (remedy was to cut drain and have seperate flow for shower and sink). Shower exhaust fan cover stuck to rubber seal. Not happy. Not much or little response from A-Van about these issues.

Great Van
After researching far and wide, I purchased a second hand Avan Aspire 499 HT. Great little van, compact, easy to tow, tows like a dream. Van was 4 years old and had been used as an on site van, lived in 24/7. Everything still works with minimal sign of wear all AOK. Minor issues related to under floor wiring and plumbing (in my fastidious opinion) were easily fixed by me as I am a tradesman. Great little van and would recommend it to all but the wingers who want a $75k van in a van that costs $37k. Dec 2017 Update. I have since looked at other vans plumbing and wiring and they are generally installed in the same manner as in the Avan. The van is still keeping us very happy.

its ok, I'm a bit of a handy man .
Pick up 499 pop top in Jan 2014. Read all the complaints that go back3years or so and you guessed it nothing has been done to fix the problems. water from sink floods toilet floor, roof sags on back corner, stairwell light not working, the van it's self is a little to low, you have to be a body builder to raise the roof, I put a baggage door road side to give access under bed, drop down table and rear poll carriers,

Tread carefully before buying a carAvan
I bought a van from Avan and it was the worst decision of my life ! Cheap and nasty components used throughout the Aspire Van ! Discussing my problems with Avan over a 18 month period saw very little resolved - I would never buy again from these inconsiderate and impassionate soles. Time, and threats of taking me to the courts were very real so today I am not prepared to chat about the numerous things to look out for when buying a caravan.
December 1st 2014 Update:
Water leaks - rubberbands in fly screen continue to break - faulty electr...Read more

Nice Caravan, 499 HT Aspire
Great van I love it, the wife has some reservations, easy to tow with an older 80 series Landcruiser and a petrol Hilux.
Because it's an easy van to tow and park and we live in southern Western Australia, our children live in Victoria and Perth so we use it as our personal space when we visit them. It also is used anytime we head off on weekends away.
We bought it 2nd hand Jan 2015, the boot had leaked and destroyed the Camp room, we are getting new walls made up to fit, however the Prostor wind out awning works very well and we are happy w...Read more

Aspire 563 May 2012
Looks good! But, have just had the brakes rewired, costly, because. Wiring was too small and brakes only received power along the line. Our bedroom window, double glaze, has come apart, currently duck taped. The catch on our skylight has broken while travelling along the road. The van is not sealed at all from dust coming up near the walls when travelling on short dirt roads, usually detours. Fridge had to be replaced (not 12 months old) would not go on gas, faulty inastalation and vents were in wring place. Very dissatisfied.

For an Aussie Built Van, at Affordable Price, it is the best I've Owned
Purchasing this van in late 2011 I lived in it in Darwin for 2.5 years. I have owned two Windsor Vans in the past and by contrast this is the best. That said, Aussie caravan quality is poor, like cars built in the 80s here. Pushed out the door without proper QC however unlike motor vehicles getting aftersales is difficult so be prepared to do your own repairs. The day the Chinese start building vans will be the death of the industry here, unfortunately. I have known people to spend $100,000 on a van and have the same problems as those with...Read more
a $38,000 van. The secret is not to have a high expectation of the Aussie product just try and get the best you can for your money while considering your needs. All that said, my 499 Aspire has been more than satisfactory. Lightweight at 1250kg Tare and ATM of 1550kg. With plenty of storage and comfortable bed (I have the inner spring mattress), tows well although could be a little higher of the ground although that wouldn't be noticed if you pulling with a Falcon or Commodore. If height is an issue I am told putting the springs on the axel is a cost affective and easy solution. I haven't bothered with this but worth looking at which would avoid scrapping on some of the deep driveway entrances. All up, I have loved this van and for a van in the mid $30k good value. It is my view from other owners I speak with that those who have had a negative experience would be in the minority. But like Aussie cars made in the 80s, there would always be the 'lemon' and that is a shame for those purchases. Regrettably I'm in a new phase of my life and am placing the van on the market but do so knowing I am selling a great van at an affordable prices. I hope this personal account has been of assistance.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great value for money, looks contemporary and we love ours!
Good points:
AirCommand Sparrow well placed and operates with very little external noise, so does not disturb the peace for other campers nearby.
Exhaust fan in toilet cubicle very effective
Double glazed windows improves noise insulation
Elektroblock batter management system also has built in DC to DC functionality to allow car to charge van's batteries
External water tap mounted on A frame
Large sunroof makes interior bright and airy.
Door does not have vent at the bottom, allowing dust to enter, and stable door feature very handy feature - can watch TV outside with top half of door open.
Built in blinds and insect mesh in windows and sunroof.
Table that converts into additional bed can accommodate most adults.

Quality control out the window
You got leaks, cracks, bent axel, shoddy panel work, faulty electrical work ( 12 volt and 240 volt ), doors that don't shut, what about doors that don't open, Poptop roof that doesn't sit level, broken elastic bands in screen doors and fly screens, rear bumper installed with 2 bolts instead of 4, dangerous sharp edges on bed and doorway, a caravan jack but NO wheelbrace, incandescent globes in the ceiling a huge fire danger (change to LED), are you being ignored when you call the Avan office for help, mostly they'll refuse to return your calls...Read more
or maybe they'll have their lawyer handle your problem, he knows a real lot about caravans - lmao ! I spent more than 15 months trying to get help for faults with my new Avan, they have my hard earned money ! Once they have your money they don't want to know you anymore ! Just remember you don't have to take your caravan, to the place of purchase, to have warranty repairs carried out ! So long as the repairer you choose is happy to do repairs with product of equal quality or better than Avans - that wouldn't be too hard to achieve ! Good luck, just be prepared for a long fight. I'm a returned Vietnam Veteran, I don't lay down for anyone ! PS - if you incure any out of pocket expenses, don't expect to get your money back ! The BuzzardSimilar opinion? Avan issues
I had enough problem with my aspire 499 that I fully agree with you. I am at the stage where I don't get any pleasure what so ever out of it. Also as some one else suggested on another review, head office didn't acknowledge our initial concerns what so ever, which were considerable. I also would agree the designs are good just poor quality issue still having problems with considerable water leaked in front window And boot and other issues. Would I have another one, no

Hello, is there a water gauge on the Avan Aspire 555? We’re about to head away with our new van and can’t find one. Thank you.
2 answers
A Projecta system console was included in the 555 from about mid 2022. Earlier vans I believe did not have this feature. The console shows house battery charge, starter battery charge when the car is hooked up, fresh water tank level and waste water when grey water tanks are included. I wouldn’t get too disappointed if your caravan does not have a water level indicator as our one is a bit hit and miss. One day it will show 50% and the next day 75% then up to 100%. Its all over the place and talking to other caravanners they all say much the same regardless of the brand of caravan. I know when I am getting very low on tank water when the water pump starts making a different sound.
Thank you for your reply. Great to know. Ours is a December 2018 model so it answers our question. Thanks again.

Hi everyone, have just ordered a hardtop 499 aspire double. Not sure whether to get underslung axle for more clearance height or if people are happy with the overslung axle height? Pros for underslung is more clearance. Cons, higher centre of gravity. Tow vehicle is 100 series cruiser (no lift)
