Good BBQ but let down by very poor build quality, design and customer service. Avoid!
Bought my BUGG one month ago. Here is my candid review:
- BBQ itself works well - hot, smokes just enough, food tastes great.
HOWEVER..
- The trolley/stand (if you buy it) is a NIGHTMARE to put together. It's almost as if they deliberately tried to make it as difficult to assemble as possible. It's also very flimsy. The hook for the gas bottle struggles to hold the gas bottle. I suspect it will snap any day now. It's all cheap plastic.
- The drip tray is tiny and extremely difficult to remove each time you need to clean it. You have t...Read more

Overall decent unit.
This is a decent unit for a relatively affordable bbq, it has plenty of heat so you can sear steaks and get nice crispy chicken skin etc and it's also very efficient on gas. I've had none of the issues reported here regarding heat control and I didn't waste my money on the stand after reading so many negative reviews all over the Web why beefeater won't update the design is beyond me as they're loosing sales. The unit itself comes ready to use other than one optional handle which is great if you don't want to spend half a day assembling a unit....Read more
The negatives I've experienced are the stupid drip tray with the need to remove the rod to clean it which always ends up in grease all over the table, the things a nightmare to clean, even with narrow brushes and sprays it's just a royal pain I've given up trying to keep it like new and now just use over cleaner and a combination of wire brush and narrow plastic brushes and then run the whole thing under a hot shower....it's easier to clean the bath afterwards than cleaning the BBQ outside. No doubt this will shorten it's life but I can't spend hours cleaning it as I use it 5 or more days a week in the warmer seasons. It's already down to bare metal around the top and the text as scrubbed off all over. The other complaint I have is the ridiculous position of the gas knobs, I have to reach over flames to adjust them as they're at the back of the unit, not all of us have metres of room around our cooking areas. Would I buy another.... Maybe, but I'd look closely at the l Webber equivalents next time to see if they're easier to clean, at least their nobs are accessible.Similar opinion? Disgusted with the dodgy trolley !
My husband purchased the Bugg a couple of months ago. We were excited to get rid of our big cumbersome bbq and downsize to a smaller more manoeuvrable BeefEater Bugg. Took ages to put together, and had to redrill screw holes which were out of alignment. Used it last night and moved it no more than 5 foot on the patio. The wheels fell off straight away. Dreadful design. He has now removed the wheels completely and I will be expected to help him lift it into positio every time we want to use it. We were more than happy with the bbq itself, but for the price ( separate to the bbq purchase) it's a total rip off.

Wire Shelf
Purchased (Bugg) out door model after 2 months the wire shelf has surface rust all over frame. The Bugg is the best BBQ I have ever had so disappointed that rust spoils the purchase. Not sure how to handle as I paid to get assembled and I am not in a position to dismantle and return to retailer due to health reasons.

Crappy wheels
Had the bugg for few days, the wheels fell off in a short 2m push. Called the vendor for replacement, got a new set of legs, tried not to over tighten at all. Same situation of wheels and bolts coming off. Basically just a bad design and not worth the $200 for the stand. At the end, have to resort to some bolts and nuts from Bunnings. Looks aweful but can do nothing much with a crappy design.

Ok if you can find it discounted
I bought my Bugg from Mitre 10 in Bondi Junction recently on a special - $300 including stand and accessories. Awesome value.
Pros - Easy to use. Fairly sturdy design - the BBQ itself feels more substantial than a Weber. Consistent, predictable cooking results. Looks attractive. Very frugal on gas use.
Cons - Trolley is fairly difficult to assemble. The grease drip-tray that slots underneath the BBQ is horrendously undersized and will, without a doubt, fill up and overflow mid-cook if you are cooking something very fatty - ie chicken thi...Read more
ghs with skin. The drip tray is locked into place with the same mechanism that secures the BBQ to the stand - this is difficult and somewhat hazardous to remove if you need to empty the super-small drip tray mid cooking. The wheels on the trolley are mounted on the rear two legs rather than the side two legs which makes it quite awkward and unbalanced to move around if you need to. Conclusion - Good value if you can find the whole shebang for $300 on sale like I did. If they are asking full price ($600) then go and buy a Weber instead.Similar opinion? Awesome cooker
The Bugg is great for cooking for up to 6 people, which we do often. The heat control and temp gauge is great. The hot plate cooks evenly. I don't like cleaning BBQs but the Bugg is very easy and quick to clean. The unit I have is on wheels and it's easy to move around. I would recommend one to my family and mates.

Please o not waste your money on this piece of rubbish
Purchased the Bugg because Beefeater are an Australian Company apparently, that was my first mistake they are produced in China. First usage and the seal around the lid came off, next time the rubber retainers on the bottom half of the lid came off. Trolley fell apart within a month, crap materials. managed to repair most of these myself, but then ignition system fell apart, I have had less than six months use. This is a shambles of a product and should be removed from sale. Returned to retailer. This doesn't even deserve the one star that I had to give it.

Bugg great.
Wow..my bug is unreal...did oysters in shell, prawns and finished off with whole snapper 3 kg. ..amazing...have cooked pork roasts and steaks, snags and skewers. Bought it from Harvey Norman in Busselton already assembled for 600 bucks...A bit more expensive than the webber but loads better. I used my m8s baby webber to cook chops and not hot enough... so looked at reviews and upgraded to the Bugg. So thanks To the great crew as well in busso Harvey Norman I'm cook n with gas....Yum yum.

BUGG BBQ
I find my Bugg is a good BBQ except for the wheels provided for moving it. I will probably change the wheel set up myself. I paid $299.00 all up stand and all in New Norfolk Tasmania whilst caravaning in December. I bought it because I couldn't get over the price. I gave it 4 stars because of the wheel set up.

Baby steps but we got there!
I love the look of my Bugg as I chose the bright yellow cover! On special at Bunnings. Found trolley very difficult to assemble - people who can construct IKEA with eyes closed couldn't do it! Contacted Beefeater to no avail. Ready to return until one more person persevered and put BBQ together (no mean task!). But since I have cooked with it I am rapt! Both open and shut to cook with it turns out perfectly every time. And it still looks sexier than a Weber Q!

I like my BUGG, its a good BBQ
So my story goes a little something like "my friend got me a gift certificate, and the only portable BBQ worth getting at this store was the BUGG". I did some searching around on the web about the BUGG, only to find shocking reviews. Now and then though I would find a view saying the BBQ is quite good which made me think it was best for me to take a look at one up close. When I looked over one at the shop it looked quite good. At the end of the day we aren't talking about anything ground breaking in technology right; As long as it burns gas...Read more
, and cooks meat it's good for me so I bought one. (The burner lighting mechanism is impressive though) As soon as it was in the door at home the box was ripped apart, the manuals unrapped, and the building commenced. (Take your time reading the manual, this is standard with ANYTHING you buy) It was straight forward and in no time it was ready for fuel, and some oil tray sand or rock. I fired it up, and wanted to see if I could regulate the heat for roasts like so many people complain about. One gas burner on low gave me 150-160 Degrees C which is perfectly fine, and you can ramp this BBQ right up with two burners. The first thing I cooked was a 1 kg lamb roast, and it came out bloody perfect. The following night stakes where grilled to perfection. My view on the BBQ is it absolutely fine for most people. it may not be a Ziggy or Webber that everyone praises so much, but I can't wait to cook more on my BUGG. I have little rascal of dog that I was worried about chowing into the gas bottle hose, (even thought the gas bottle hands off the trolley), so I got the BUGG cover to which fit perfect over the entire BBQ and trolley. All up a very neat and tidy unit, which I can only recommend.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great! But can't get the hang of solid fuel
I was given this BBQ as a gift. It's the perfect size for my balcony and easy to wheel around but the fact that it's solid fuel and not gas has it's drawbacks. Cooks well and gets really hot but I find it difficult to keep it lit. It's a great little barbie just wish I knew how to control the temp.

Bugg is fine
We purchased a Bugg and its trolley and tit's been fine since the purchase. Some of the poor reviews are of minor things and seem to stem from mere nit picking. For us the Bugg is very good and the advice on some of the cooking aspects from the distributors has been helpful and prompt.

Don't buy this crap BBQ
OK I brought this BBQ back in March and wanted to like it, thought it was Australian, but when you read the fine print it states Designed in Australian. The design term needs to go back to the drawing board. We haven't used it that often as is makes such a MESS of our deck. If you cook on low with the lid closed, it still drips fat all over the stand, gas bottle and the surrounding area. It's a pain in the butt to clean, after first cleaning the heat control knobs lost their markings. The design needs reworking, the lip on the cooking plate nee...Read more
ds to be on the outside of the lip to keep the fat inside rather than having it drip all over the place. Find the best way to clean it via a pressure washer. Basically not worth the $600 I paid for it, maybe $25 would be more in line for this product. I'm giving it away to someone I don't like and buying a weber next week.1 comment

Could be so much better
I also purchased before reading the reviews, unfortunately. A very poorly made bbq for a very expensive price. Very little difference between hi & lo output on burners. So poorly made. Screws that hold chrome shelf to leg fall out and now right hand burner not working after only 6 uses. This is going back to Harvey Norman for a full refund. For $600.00 one has the right to expect a much higher quality product. Dont go near this product, You WILL bbe disapointed. This is my first Beefeater. I purchased it becuse I believed they where a quality product. How wrong I was! This will also be my last!

So far so good
I have just read the product reviews with dismay because, as usual, I have already made the purchase.
I was a little distressed at some of the negatives so decided I would put it to the test for myself.
The assembly of the stand was a bit of a challenge and the instructions are not the easiest to follow, but with a little patience and twice reading I had no problems. The packaging was good and everything seemed to fit well. I did have a problem with the solid BBQ plate not fitting, it was too big by a couple of mm, so I took it back to the r...Read more

OK but?
Works fine for open BBQ Want to do a roast?[as i do] as others have said, not possible to control temp under 250c .I would have thought an experienced aussie BBQ manufacturer could build a product to do the whole job it was sold to us customers to do!the product is obviously deficient in its control ability. But are the engineers @ beefeaters prepared to solve the problem by perhaps re engineering the burners. CANT be that hard.Sadly on saturday i was unable to recomend the bugg to two of my friends who each bought an american made weber family Q from Down under camping Capalaba.

12 months on and still going strong!
Maybe I was one of the lucky ones as I haven't had any of the issues other reviewers have had. I use it at least once and week and it always gets packed in when going away in the caravan. Paint is still good, temp gauge still good and as new. I have cooked everything from damper to roast to bacon and eggs. Yes it does tend to get a bit hot (as per some other reviewers) but with a bit of experimenting I managed to get the temp I was after. I also purchased the gourmet plancha plate and it made a HUGH difference in cooking fish and steaks and the...Read more
like. There are some things I would suggest in an upgrade, I would move the knobs from the back to the front or side or at least change the way they operate as they just don't feel right when turning on and off, but having said that most BBQ's have issues with the knobs and the inside base design is hard to clean. I bought this BBQ over the weber mainly due to the fact I was told you can't cook on a weber with the lid up? if cooking bacon / eggs / sausages / steaks and the like you need to stand over a bbq, lid up and watch it cook while having a drink (well at least I do) I was also looking at the Ziegler & Brown BBQ two things made me go with the Bugg, one price was cheaper and secondly I liked the option of having a full plate (which the gourmet plancha is) so, 12 months on and would I buy it again, yes or maybe I would have a closer look at the Ziegler to see if it covers some of the upgrades I have mentioned. Bottom line, no one complains when I suggest "I will do the cooking on the Bugg"Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Disappointed!
I bought this last Xmas for my husband. Pretty easy to assemble and use. Great for steaks and pizzas but really disappointed with all my attempts at doing a roast! It just gets too hot .... can't seem to keep it anywhere below 220-250 degrees with the top down. The roasts burn on the outside and are overcooked! I've tried keeping the lid propped up but then it doesn't cook properly, so, yeah, disappointed! Also the markings on the knobs rubbed off within the first couple of months although they did replace them when I contacted them. For a rather expensive BBQ I wish I'd bought a Weber!!!

How do you get the grease tray out on the Bugg? Surely you're not having to pull out the U bolt every time? Mine locks in tight so you have to be a contortionist to lever the tabs to release it?
2 answers
Yep, that’s what you have to do alright. Apply firm pressure and try not to bang your hand when it pops out. Putting the U bolt back is easier - just line it up and give it a whack.
Bugger that. I just loosened the screws off so the tray sits a bit lower and will slide out.

I need to replace the ignition leads as they were damaged while transporting to storage. I’ve got the replacement leads just want to know how to replace them properly. What to remove and how to basically replace them without damaging anything. Thanks

So I brought a weber 2000, it's everything they say it is. Great cooking easy to clean, designed correctly and not a drop of fat anywhere after cooking a leg of lamb, chicken, steak.
