Berkelouw Books

We love going to the Paddington or Hornsby store. We love finding new books and we often find ourselves coming home with a new file of books. They have such a great range and the staff are always friendly.

Although the bookshop itself is great - the range is amazing and the products are almost second-to-none, the experience is totally off-putting. The staff are cold and look at you very suspiciously like you committed an offence just opening the door. The staff are always watching you like you are doing something wrong and are ready to pounce.

There is never any thankyou for a purchase and my younger sibling have been told off a couple of times for stupid, unnecessary things. I still go because I love the product range, but if the staff were replaced, the place would boom! Going to a shop like that is meant to be a relaxing, pleasurable experience that is enjoyed, but the grumpy, starchy old men at the counter ruin the experience :(

Although no trace of the incident can now be found as they have deleted all the posts off facebook, all I can say is - Say sorry Robert Berkelouw. You can pretend nothing happened and that deleting it from your pages does not mean it didn't happen. Children should be nurtured and if they do something a parent should be approached not the child. I would no recommend this book store to anyone, please don't go.

I love the Berkelouw stores. The people always seem to be happy to work there and if they dont have a book in stock they will get it in. I went through a stage of buying cheap books from Big W, which I still recommend, but you cant beat the Berkelouw experience. I'm a fan.
The customer experience, range of books

The first time I visited Berkelouw Book store, I was amazed at how many second hand books were available for such a cheap price.
Wide range of new and used books with a variety of genres. Both second hand and new books are decently priced and in good condition. The staff are exceptional and always eager to help you find what your looking for.
I'm not sure if this applies for all Berkelouw Book stores, but the second hand section at Leichardt is completely out of order. There's no sense of organisation and its almost impossible to find a book you're actually looking for.
