Useless for hot showers
I asked before installation if my mains water pressure was going to be good enough and was told it was... but I have had problems since day one - for 2+ years...
It is ok for hot water from the kitchen tap only as long as you are willing to run the tap at full pace and waste 20+ Liters before you start getting warm water, not sure how they gained the energy rating they did? but do not try to mix hot and cold at the same time - getting showers right is almost impossible

f hot water will start. Now I have hot water starting no problem but as soon as I mix in cold water the back pressure seems to slow the flow of hot to the point that the burners stop and the hot water system supplies only cold. turn off the cold water and the hot - turn the hot back on and all is fine. If I leave another hot tap on I can see the hot pressure increase at that tap when I turn the cold on in the shower - like the cold is flooding back through the hot pipes. burner stays on only if a second tap is left running!Purchased in May 2021.

Gas leak
There is a constant yellow flame burning inside the unit. My understanding is there is no pilot light so this is obviously leaking and very dangerous. Have disconnected until plumber can attend for the second time

No real issues
We have had this system for about 6 years. We previously had a storage water heater with pilot light. The bosch 16h uses much less gas.
It failed once with a water filter disintegration. That was because I failed to service the unit at the recommended 2 year intervals. We have no issues with it now. We have correct gas pressure, water pressure and water flow from the taps to ensure correct operation of the unit.
Also, our service technician really knows his stuff.
Purchased for $800.00.

Issues With the HydroPower 16H
I had the 16H installed to replace an older Bosch heater that had started to leak. I had the same issue as others where it takes 3-6 attempts for the gas to light. Three days after installation I returned home to find both gas and water leaking from the unit. After discussions with the installer and the assessor sent from Bosch the unit was replaced. Three weeks later this unit still fails to ignite each time and, just now, the unit cut out mid shower.
Update 9 December 2022. I've changed my review from one star to four.

Don't buy one of these!
We installed the Bosch 16H about five years ago and it's been trouble ever since with intermittent lighting. The spark works but it often does not light the gas. There seems to be no pattern with it - sometimes it lights first time, sometimes it takes several goes (so wasting water) to get going. Three plumbers have looked at it and can find no fault but they all agree that it is a very poor model that they receive many calls about for the same reason as us. I have contacted Bosch a number of times but they have either ignore my emails or sugge...Read more

unreliable and not recommended
Had Bosch 16H installed in 2010. In 2015, when I was away and the house was rented out it exploded. Luckily no one was hurt. No liability, no redress. As I was away, the real estate agent had their plumber replace it with the same Bosch 16 H. Having problems with this one too. In 2018 needed to pay for plumber to deal with inconsistent temperatures, and replace seals. Now it's leaking constantly, and I'll have to spend more money to fix (why bother?) or replace.
I will never buy a Bosch water heater again. How can plumbers install appliances ...Read more

Mistake
Mistake I agree with Lucei, We purchased the 16H in 9/2015 and it has been intermittent with not lighting up consistantly since installation & has now not started after many tries. I checked & the ignition was sparking, but the gas not lighting. I rang the local dealer we purchased the unit from, who told me it was out of warranty and they are busy so I should ring a plumber! This I did and when they arrived and this time the unit started first time. We will be going elsewhere in the future.
Purchased in September 2021 for $1,300.00.

Fixing ignition issue
I installed a hydropower 16h internal system 2years ago to replace an old Junkers water heater. In the recent a few months, I found it’s hard to be ignited, specially in wet days. Waiting for hot water without confidence is a headache when taking showers. Finally I decided to remove the cover to see what’s happening. I tried to turn on one hot water tap, the spark works fine, but pilot was not on. Then I switch the unit off and turned to on. When I had the second try it works. After a few hours, I did the same test. Similar problems happened ag...Read more
ain. I started to think there is something wrong with wire connections. Interesting thing is I found every time when I touch the connection wire in back side of the switch, the heater always can be ignited. Then I decided to cut the metal clip off, short circuit these two wires and bypass the switch. Since that, it hasn’t had issues anymore. I guess some sensors or even the electronic control box are sensitive to voltage. The turbine works fine, but when rust start to be seen on electronic components, it drops the voltage. Also Bosch is using aluminum wires instead of copper. The voltage drop became an issue to this water heater, even it is very minor.Purchased in February 2021 for $1,500.00.

Should be a class action, a piece of JUNK!!!
A big mistake choosing this hot water heater. It has never delivered really hot water, had the plumber out several times. Have contacted Bosch, always unhelpful. Today I had the Plumber ring Bosch and do trouble shooting with Bosch service team. Answer, nothing else can be done to improve the temperature of the water. Will have to continue having baths without needing any cold water, temp about 45 degrees, hopeless!! Also waste so much water, don't have mains water, only rain water from tanks, sometimes have to wait 5 minutes . Not good enough Bosch. DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Water temperature fluctuates wildly, too hot one minute, not heating water the next.
In March last year (2018) we had a failure in the heating coil in our Bosch 10P instant hot water service (after 20years of faithful service). I rang Origin Energy's replacement service (first mistake) who sent there plumber out to replace the original unit with a Bosch Hydroflo 16H instant hot water service.
We found that the hot and cold water flow couldn't be adjusted to give a comfortable shower, as our original unit had done. The mixed water temperature was either too hot or stone cold. In the warm weather when cold water inlet tempera...Read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible
Purchased this unit in august 2018 as a replacement for our old bosch unit. We were advised by the installer that this was the one to get. We had the installation techs out four times in the first few days because it would cease to work. Despite my requests for a different unit it was inferred that the problem was user error !!!! SIx months later the unit takes ages to heat, goes boiling hot then cold and has to be restarted several times just to get a lukewarm shower. This product has a major design fault and is clearly not fit for sale. Will be replacing as soon as finances allow. Avoid this terrible product.

Trouble from the beginning.
Unrealibile ignition of both pilot and main burner. Works today but not tomorrow or even now but not in 1 hour. Very sensitive to water pressure. Inserted inline water filter which helped in blocking the filter in the unit. Fortunately we are not entirely reliant on this heater. Reading the other reviews would incline me to replace it rather than get it serviced.

Water waster, hot then cold
We recently moved into a rental home and cannot believe the performance of the hot water system. Although the unit is directly below the shower it may take up to 4 attempts and many litres of water for the very hot water to flow. The minute the very hot water comes through any attempt to adjust causes the shower to become cold.
The Bosch unit 16H needs to be avoided.

Worst decision ever!
Had to replace my old unit which didn't even last 10 years, stupidly settled on this model. Worst decision ever!! We've nicknamed the unit Katy Perry because it's hot then it's cold. This shower either inflicts 3rd degree burns or induces hypothermia, along the way it wastes a tonne of water. How can a gas hot water system run cold when only the hot water tap is on. Will replace as soon as I can afford to.

Water has never been really hot, when having a bath no cold water is ever needed, have been putting up with this for two years. I have contacted Bosch on several occasions but treated rudely each time. Was told that if someone came out and something not under Warranty they would charge costs for travelling time etc.I !! Not good enough Bosch, have been told that it is not a problem of incorrect pump from the water tank. I was told by Bosch that was probably the problem. Will never buy a Bosch appliance again.

Installation was wrong and minimal support from Bosch when contacted with issue
Our 16H Hydroflow unit was installed just over three years ago by a Bosch certified installer. The installation manual notes that in locations where the temperature goes below 0c a valve should be installed, this was not done by the installer and three years later the heat exchanger cracked due to frost. The installer (Cowra Gas Supplies) came out and informed us that it was a right-off and wasn't under warranty (10 years on the heat exchanger) because the valve wasn't installed and that we should buy a new one from him....yea right. Had to start and stop the shower multiple times to finish shower, although sometimes it would pump out scalding water....... Not very helpful.
Then it would just refuse to light the ignition unit would fire but no pilot light.
I checked the output from the water turbine and this was within spec at 1.5v so no problem there.
So i started to investigate.

Lasted 7 years then died.
Has been getting colder for the last few years so technically only lasted 5 years before having problems. Water temperature doesn't keeps fluctuating so your constantly having to adjust between hot and cold. If you have a water save tap it doesn't even kick in to turn on the hot water so I can't get hot water out of my bathroom tap and never have been able to. Don't waste your money.

Folks, we just had our first cold overnight spell. And i think that my hot water system has done this before under sillier circumstances from memory.
It just would not provided hot water only cold, no matter how much water I let flow through the pipes. I tried at different times during the day to have short or long bursts of water but to no avail. Then phoned for help from the Bosch techs and asked for a service provider.
And asked for any tips or tricks of the trade to see if something would help.
The employee said turn on hot tap to flow. Then off.
Then for about ten times short bursts with one tap valve only, of on and off and one and off repeats to PURGE the pipes and mechanisms to kick start the hot water mode (My wording not his).
That did not seem to work as there was not hot water when I left the tap running for usual time.
So I tried it again - that did not seem to work either.
But intuitively I just let it flow a little longer as if the previous steps may have triggered something.
And hallelujah, warm water then hot water was steaming out without a lot of water waste in between, at the full pressure and with only one tap valve open.
I hope this helps someone else.
Hopefully I remember this for next winter.

Hi,
I have a 16H Bosch unit about 4 years old.
The unit lights up but will only heat up to Luke warm water. Flame looks OK, Water Flow is OK. Seems to be some sort of gas starvation. Rest of the LPG gas household appliances are working OK. Have changed the gas bottle in case it’s a bad bottle but no success. We have had the unit work normally on 2 occasions in the past week but it soon reverts to Luke warm again. Getting a qualified technician in very difficult due to the remote location. It would cost me the price of a brand new unit to get a technician onto the site to repair the unit. Could I please get a parts breakdown do I can check the gas route? My opinion is either the thermostat is reducing the gas flow or the regulator inside the unit has an issue. Thanks, John
