Lasted 7 years then died.

published

Has been getting colder for the last few years so technically only lasted 5 years before having problems. Water temperature doesn't keeps fluctuating so your constantly having to adjust between hot and cold. If you have a water save tap it doesn't even kick in to turn on the hot water so I can't get hot water out of my bathroom tap and never have been able to. Don't waste your money.

Bosch hydrofailure

published

Bought this 7 years ago and has finally died. After 5 years in service the heat exchanger blew a hole allowing water to escape, Bosch covered the cost of the part but labour was at my expense. Then the water adjustment valve leaked and had to have that repaired. Unit allows fluctuated with heating the water. Cabinet is totally rusted. Updated to a rheem metro 16. When i asked about direct replacement unit for Bosch they recommended the rheem over Bosch.
Good better Bosch? Don't think so

Will NEVER buy Bosch again.

published

Our water bill has doubled since changing to Bosch HydroPower. Water can sometimes take several minutes to get hot, other times water gets lukewarm then goes cold again so you wait another few minutes for water to heat up. Really annoying when you're rushing to work in the morning & you have to wait several minutes for hot water. Warranty is useless too. Plumbing & Gas Guys will charge me $150.00 call out fee & Bosch will also charge me $155.00 call out fee. Warranty is non existent, Bosch is only interested in being paid, customer service doesn't exist either

Extreme difficulty balancing shower temp'

published

Extremely difficult to balance water temperature in shower; hot water often cuts out altogether. Spent so much time and hassle adjusting water temp/flow at unit. (Had nothing to compare its performance with as hot water system had to be replaced soon after purchasing home) NOW I know where the problem lies after reading a previous review here! (Incidentally, due to this I placed my elderly father in a hursing home earlier than necessary ... trying to help him shower became a sheer nightmare. Finding this out years later, I'm very upset!

have 3 of these in units lpg model

published

The units give very little trouble, the power igniter and pilot jet are the only 2 things that ever have given trouble in 15y.o units. They are getting a bit rusty now so will buy new units exactly the same.
They are very simple for most handy men to repair.
I can diagnose most problems in a few 2nds amd most is to do with dirty gas.

Perfectly fine

published

We've had a 16H for about 17 years. It has been serviced once in that time. We've never had any trouble to speak of. Very occasionally it doesn't start first time, but you just turn off the tap and turn it back on and it starts okay. This might happen perhaps once or twice a year. For us living on solar power (no mains) it has been perfect.

Plagued by problems

published

We have had the system for a few years now so it maybe an older model. But it has broken down many times it has been expensive to repair. I often have to let the shower run for 2 minutes or more before the hot water comes through. In winter it takes ages for the water to be hot rather than just Luke warm. I need a new machine and I would never get one like this again.

Brilliant for the farm

published

Our hydropower 16 has been a dream. 14 years of reliable service. On a farm with no mains power, heating water is a dream with an lpg tank. we recently had a plastic part split in the frost. Time will tell whether bosch can assist with the part. I am hopeful though.

Piece of scrap metal

I bought a 100 acre farm with a renovated farm house and a Bosch 16H LPG Hotwater system 12 months ago. Been nothing but a failure and an expensive gas guzzling failure at that for 12 months. Like a lot of Bosch products it is a disappointment. Avoid avoid avoid.

Poor reliability

published

Had this 16H since we bought house three years ago. Never sure if it will supply hot water. Had plumber come out who said he supplied a new part for $105 then couldnt get unit to go. He then suggested we get the pressure pump se4viced. As he left the yard I notice he had an old 16H gutted on the back of his ute. NEW PART, HMMM! Had service done on pressure pump still no hot water. After hefty plumbers bill and after reading comments might cut losses and get another brand.

Instant hot water and relief.

published

This has replaced a previous Bosch Battery Driven unit. The advantage gained was when we lost mains power we were still able to have hot water and a cooking facility and no flat batteries. I recommend holding out for a unit like this and will install this in the next house I buy or build.

Perfect Hot Water Unit the Bosch Hydro Power unit

published

The Bosch HydroPower 16H is an excellent Hot Water unit due to on our farm we don't have much power so with the Bosch Hot Water unit you don't need power which is amazing. These Hot Water units are amazing and quiet cheap to run as per the specs on their website and on the operation instructions.

The valve that allows the diaphragm to open allowing gas to the main burner to flow is often blocked by grease applied during factory assembly
Follow the copper pipe from the hydrogenator to the grey housing at the front that has the flow control dial.
Pop the u clip and pull the pipe out inside the housing is a brass pipe pull this out with a pair of needle nose plyers clean the small holes and reassemble

Gas jets don't fire up

published

I have a H 16 fresh out of the box. My pilot light turns on but the heating jets don't fire up so cold water is running out at more than 3,5 liter per minute. How can I fix this as no one is taking the blame for it?

Cheers

Bosch 16H - No Complaints Whatsoever

published

We are NOT affiliated with Bosch, nor do we frequently write a review. But ...
We recently purchased and had installed/certified a 16H Bosch hot water unit. Our new unit arrived from cross-country promptly and intact; it replaced a 10H model we had used for nearly 15 years. The new unit fired-up on the first go and continues to operate efficiently and without a hitch. Makes us wonder why our unit works so well, while some others here have tendered so many complaints. All we can write is: "Well done Bosch and thank you."

HydroPower 16H

Hello all,

Last night we had a large storm which the wind blew off the side removable lid of the Bosch.

Learnt that the two side screws where the only thing holding it in which I will put new mounting because of this.

Anyway..

We heard this happen, got up straight away, went into the “rain” to fit the side lid back on.

The Bosch did get water on the inside when we were doing this.

I tried to run the Bosch 16H today and it is not igniting the gas when I turn on the water, gas is coming out and water running great but no spark/ignition to light the gas to heat the water.

I have not had time to look at this more deeply I am guessing there is a PCB electronic board in there that maybe fried because of the rain on it.

But I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to solve this problem.

Thank you,

Daniel Maurice Whittington

these systems are useless. have you changed your shower head recently? mine went from bad to worse when I updated my shower head to a dual system - have to run my sink tap at the same time to keep the hot water from shutting off when I add cold water to the shower

HydroPower 16H

Folks, we just had our first cold overnight spell. And i think that my hot water system has done this before under sillier circumstances from memory.

It just would not provided hot water only cold, no matter how much water I let flow through the pipes. I tried at different times during the day to have short or long bursts of water but to no avail. Then phoned for help from the Bosch techs and asked for a service provider.
And asked for any tips or tricks of the trade to see if something would help.
The employee said turn on hot tap to flow. Then off.
Then for about ten times short bursts with one tap valve only, of on and off and one and off repeats to PURGE the pipes and mechanisms to kick start the hot water mode (My wording not his).
That did not seem to work as there was not hot water when I left the tap running for usual time.
So I tried it again - that did not seem to work either.

But intuitively I just let it flow a little longer as if the previous steps may have triggered something.
And hallelujah, warm water then hot water was steaming out without a lot of water waste in between, at the full pressure and with only one tap valve open.

I hope this helps someone else.

Hopefully I remember this for next winter.

if you have poor water pressure the only way to get it to kick in is to turn off wait a minute then turn on your best hot tap in the house - mine is my kitchen tap... then if it fails turn off and leave for a minute then try again - if fails do again with two taps turned on full...

about 20 minutes later, toes frozen, 300L of wasted water and late for work it may finally kick in. leave taps running then go to shower and turn on - then turn on bathroom sink as well - then go back to kitchen and turn off that tap.

leave bathroom sink running a mid rate, enough that it increases flow but also leaves just enough pressure to shower with. then carefully add cold - if you add to fast or to much then the hot water shuts off and you have to start again

these systems are Sh!t - and in no way should have the energy rating they have as they waste so much water
