The Perfect Home Machine - used daily without missing a beat.
The coffee tastes amazing, thanks to a fresh grind every time, and a quick espresso pour. This was a wedding present from my Nanna 6 years ago now and with Daily use is still going strong! Love the option of grind coarseness, as we can use the beans in our work coffee press too (make coarser or finer as required).
With a regular clean and descale, this machine's coffee tastes perfect everytime. No need to buy regulation Breville Descaler - Aldi have tablets that are far more cost-effective!
If it ever dies, we will replace with the newer model at the time!

Leaky
Had this machine for at least 6 years. Consistently excellent coffee. Had a problem with it leaking from the base causing the silver paint to bubble and we returned it to be fixed after a few months. It stopped leaking for a while, but started again after the warranty had ended. Consequently all of the base paint has bubbled and is flaking off now. Makes quite a wet mess, but there’s nothing wrong with the grinder or coffee making so we’ve persisted with it. Makes great coffee though.

Worst mistake, don't buy!
You would think if you spent a few hundred bucks on a coffee machine that you would get a working product. Worked 6 months and broke, got another one, worked another 6 months and broke again!!! We were so disappointed and would avoid this brand at all cost! You're better of spending a bit more and it not breaking.

Easy to use..manual operation to adjust to your taste, coffee is the best ive tasted from any machine, better even than coffee shops! Have had Breville before and upgraded to this one and im very happy ..would buy again..but only a breville..we roast our own beans so are fussy about our coffee

When it dies I will buy another!!
I fell in love with this machine the moment I bought it. It has made consistently good coffee since purchase 4 years ago. If and when it dies, I only hope I can replace with an exact replica. The design means everything you will need is at the fingertips. Cleaning is easy. In fact the only thing I could say that would be a suggestion for improvement, The steamer wand could provide a stronger steam and frothing experience. Oh and as a total afterthought, mainly because I don't use it that often, The hot water dispenser will drip annoyingly after you have turned the knob back to upright

Fantastic coffee
We love this coffee machine, it has been very reliable and makes amazing coffee, there are lots of settings (I still don't know what half of them do). It is half way between a home and a pro machine as such it requires cleaning out with solutions every now and again, but this is a small price to pay for how long the machine lasts.

4 years later and still kicking
Had this machine 4 years ago and still going. Not as good as the expensive espresso machines but would rate it as 7 out of 10. An excellent start up espresso machine for coffee lovers. Good value for money. Would gladly get another Breville for as long as they maintain the quality

Love this coffee machine!
This machine is easy to use and easy to clean! Makes beautiful coffee quickly - would definitely recommend to everyone. I received this as a birthday present and was so happy. I have previously done a barista course so I knew how to froth milk and operate the machine, but to newbies this might be something you have to learn on Youtube/read the manual etc.

Perfect!
I like this coffee machine and I have been using this one for years. It has grinder that saves me lots of time! Easy to use, easy to clean and the price is resonable. The only thing is the noise- a little bit too louad for expressi. But it can make a good coffee that's the import part.

Easy to use and clean. Make your own signiture coffee at home in the morning. Also it has good back up after service. 3 yr warranty. We bought at David jones's promotion season. Price under averages. So lucky to have this machine as my daily coffee maker. Would strongly recommend.

Love it.
I've had a number of machines over the years, they all have their good and bad points, but this is the best I've owned and really fantastic for the price. I know it well enough now that I can make coffees to anyone's tastes and people are genuinely surprised at the awesomeness of my offerings thanks to this fine machine. If you want to spend twice as much you can start getting into double boilers etc and therefor really superior machines...but if you don't want to go there$ this is the machine.

2nd upgrade on 860
Hi,
We had an 860 silver model and it performed reasonably well, though the doser dial switch was useless,
And way too much coffee was wasted, even after sending for an initial service complaint about it.
Anyway the boiler went bung after three and a half years and would not steam enough to do anything at all.
Luckily enough we paid extra for 4 years warranty,
The service centre that handled it were very good, and in two weeks had a brand new black 870 on our doorstep,
This machine works well in all facets and will give it heaps again to ...Read more

Auto Extraction not working
The pre-programmed 1 cup / 2 cup auto extraction has suddenly stopped working on my machine - when I select the 1 cup or 2 cup programme they both start the coffee extraction process but neither stop unless I press the button again - I have tried the usual factory reset and both cleaning cycles but this hasn't resolved the problem. I am currently out of work so can't afford the option of taking the machine to a service centre and it is out of warranty so any suggestions that I try myself would be much appreciated?

Hi - I am in NZ and the Breville team here only suggest service agents which I can't afford - appreciate some suggestions via return comment if possible?
As per usual all Breville do is suggest taking machines to their overpriced service agents even though I had already stated that I couldn't afford this option. It appears that they either have no comp... Read more
etent Engineers themselves or they have an agreement with their service agents that they wont suggest fixes themselves to customers. Despite getting into emails with both Breville Australia and Breville NZ who both told me to take it to a service agents and assured me that there was no 'quick fix' for the fault I described, I fixed it myself in the end by taking the back off, unclipping the flowmeter and clipping it back in which appears to have reset the flowmeter and the machine is working perfectly now. I doubt I would buy another Breville product in the future.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Terrible
Have owned this just over 2 months and it's had to go in for repair. We used filtered water and cleaned it regularly, things the repairer suggested we might not have done. What is that could cause the machine to collapse and need new solenoids after such a short space of time. This machine is in the home and gets a workout of about 4 coffees a day...hardly thrashing it. Now we have an almost new machine that we paid $600 for and it's looking like a lemon. Surely the warranty must cover and protect us against this. Never mind the fact that we haven't had a machine for 2 weeks and going into the third whilst it's under repair. Really disappointed!

Hi Michelle D - customer service has advised that its best if you call them on 1300 139 798 to discuss the agent this coffee machine is with and the status of the repair. Thanks, the Breville team

Does what it is made to do, makes great coffee
I've had my machine for 6-8 years, never been fixed because it's never stopped working, if yours is giving you problems try reading the manual on how to setup and how to clean. Makes great coffee with little fuse I'm actually having one now . And no I don't work for the company or any of the retail outlets . I'm a postman

Cannot lodge inquiry with Breville without signing up to Facebook (which I do not want to do)
The automatic volume control is not working and despite hitting the Program button and getting three beeps it keeps pouring continuously. Is there any other way I can return the machine to factory default settings?
Otherwise the machine works very well - we have had it about four years now.

Reliable machine. For the most part
I've had this machine for around four years now, I am a trained commercial barista who avidly gulps coffee daily so I certainly gave this machine a fair run - its pump unfortunately failed about a week ago, so I've taken it as a sign to move up in the world. But for the most part it was a worthy investment, certainly perfect for the beginning barista. All I would say for those more avid enthusiast, buy yourself a separate grinder. The placement of a grinder on top of the machine leaves the beans exposed to moisture and the grinder is incapable of a seriously fine grind. In the instant that your are a little too obsessed with the grind, don't invest in this machine and get yourself the dual boiler Breville and a separate grinder instead.

Almost perfect for the average home user
The Barista express is a clever invention with both a grinder and espresso machine in one.
Positives: For the normal home user, it produces fine espresso and froths at a consistent and moderate speed. Relatively cheap considering you have both grinder and espresso machine, allowing home users to have freshly ground beans every time. The programming feature is a little bonus on a home machine like this.
Negatives: Thermocoil PID is a little inconsistent, always run a fair bit of water first before extraction to ensure its really ready to ...Read more
go. The drip tray size is also way too small, it fills up after 4-5 cups are made, annoying having to empty it often. Grinder is the biggest issue for me. I prefer lighter roasted beans, however have found that my machine doesn't share my liking. Using lightly roasted beans, the grinder jamms and makes a horrific metal banging noise. E.g. Market Lane's seasonal espresso, Small Batch's Candyman. These refuse to grind in the grinder at the finer setting required for a single wall filter. Other than that, it is a nice little machine to have at home, away from the La Marzocco from work and does its job for the price quite well!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have a second hand breville BES860 and the grinder button has started just turning on and off on its own. Has any one else struck this? I've tried compressed air and food safe spray lube but no dice.

Out of nowhere and it was used this morning, my breville coffee machine wont hold the coffee dispenser where you attach for the grinder of coffee section. Do you know how to fix this?
