I have a second hand breville BES860 and the grinder button has started just turning on and off on its own. Has any one else struck this? I've tried compressed air and food safe spray lube but no dice.

Hi all.
We have had our Breville BES860 for a few years now. No problems.
Recently i have had the issue of not enough steam being produced.
It makes steam but not as much as before.

I have a brand new Barista Express and the filter light won't stop flashing. Have cleaned the bean hopper and still can not get lights to stop flashing. So, grinder has not operated at all. Should I return it or is there something else I could try?
1 answer
Brief: had this for past 5 years.
Alex, try this please even if you have done it before:
- remove hopper and empty
- put your finger in there - POWER OFF - and gather all the beans left over in the middle of the burr (thing with the handle) remove as many as you can to do that, put back the hopper and lock it and grind that surplus you just moved in the centre.
While you there clean it.
Try now! All you should of have is a blockage and the machine is telling you.
Take Care Serge, just here to help and not a Breville man.

Hi there, recently I was given the BES860(5 years old) and been enjoying the real coffee. But I've noticed that the dial of grinder probably has been broken as I can't have a variety of the grind size even though I tried with different numbers... Also, I've noticed that my machine's dial is pretty hard to turn and there is not a click sound when I turned to a different number. I understand that this machine is old and probably need to bring a service station but apart from professional work, can I try something to fix this issue? Is anyone had a similar experience?

Clean the grinder by the instruction then try.
If no results: next give the full on clean, recommended only if needed, being oldish do it, instruction are in the manual too.
I have mine for 5+ and always do the basic clean of the grinder every time it is empty - well each 3 month really. There is heaps of oil in coffee beans.
Service thé machine by the book it’s basic stuff in the manual. Take care

Had this machine for over 5 years using on a daily basis. I just noticed the machine was still heating even if it was turned OFF and gets very hot. I now have to unplug it from the wall socket. The machine tends to blow steam when I turn it back on which is unusual for me. The coffee is too hot and doesn't pour normally, has no creama and poor taste. Thinking I should throw it away and get a new one...but just checking in case there is an easy fix ? thanks

5+ for me.
-Do a full clean with the tablets. May be do it twice for good measure.
-Then run a coffee WITHOUT coffee a few times, head cleaning/rinse that is what you are doing now.
- Do one more clean tablet thing.
TRY NOW

Hi, my Breville barista express single cup button once pressed doesn't automatically stop. I have reset it to default but that's done nothing. This has been an intermittent issue but now does it all the time. I also believe the double shot is starting to do the same thing.

As far as what I read in the manual you need to program it by pressing the program button the the single cup while flashing the stop it with the single cup button once your happy with the extraction. After this you'll have saved that extraction time.
In my manual it says to default the cup measurements to 30ml/60ml to hold the program button until it beeps the times. This hasn't worked though. I descaled the machine with both tablets and white vinegar but the problem is still occurring.

Good Morning
Our Breville Barista Express BES860 has started to leak water excessively onto the bench top and the pressure in the milk steamer has dropped excessively. It takes quite awhile to heat the milk. Does this mean this appliance is of no further use or is it repairable at a reasonable one price.
Kind regards
Graeme

It just means it's time for a clean mate. Mine did the same a while back so I just did a full cleaning with the sash of cleaner in the water as it says in the manual and run the cleaning program by holding a few buttons and running the steam. The next time you fill it up and use it it'll be fine.

I have a new one of these, replaced under Product Care, after the previous one died. So I know how to do the cleaning cycle! However, both times I’ve done the cleaning cycle, the water has come out the back of the machine, not through the group head. It’s like the group head is blocked. NO water at all comes through. It just all leaks out the hose at the back right of the machine. And then it dumps the excess.
If it was a new machine, it would be under product care but my product care ran out the week after I got this replacement so not sure it’s covered even though it is a new machine and only a couple of months old.
I have a feeling it is going to cost me money....
I did just find a post that as long as the water is going into the drip tray, there’s nothing to worry about.... Except that the ‘Clean Me’ light is still on!!

The Clean Me process is supposed to back flush solution internally, so the correct way is that no water will flow through the group head but rather purge internally to the drip tray. Your new machine has the most recent updated cleaning disc and is performing hte process correctly now. All is well.

Firstly I love my Breville Barista Express BES860, can't go without my coffee and it makes them very well. I have 1-3 coffees per day and have had my machine for 11months and it has started to leak a significant amount of water out of the bottom right machine housing. It leaks when I make coffee, I regularly clean out the drip tray. No water appears to be leaking from the water reservoir or the seals. What should I do?

Hello. I have the Breville 800 I totally love it. Recently I noticed the machine even when in off mode makes a very faint humming noise. It’s scary as I don’t think this is normal. Everything else is superb. Any advice?

My BES860 got a power surge and, I'm assuming, blew a fuse. Power light still comes on but that's it. Assuming the main components are surge protected, it it possible for me to change the blown fuse?

Cleaning with single wall/ single cup insert and cleaning disc and one tablet provided with machine. No water comes out during cleaning. Tablet is dissolved. This is the first cleaning since purchase. Clean light flashes on/off.

Same here—I just put it through it’s first clean. However, I did push the rubber cleaning disk into the single cup insert quite tightly. Maybe it should just sit in there loosely. My clean light is now off and the disk was almost completely dissolved.

hi all. i just bought the machine yesterday. i find that the coffee is very wet and not draining properly from the grouping after the pressure goes down. i believe it should be damp and not have water sat in the grouping after the machine completes? am i under filling as i have trued to make the coffee grind much finer. Any help?

You need to have enough grounds in the filter basket so that is almost up to the rim when tamped. Tamp pressure is one medium press. when you bump, tap the filter basket, the wet grounds should form a biscuit. Fine grounds set more solidly.
fabulous thanks and yes this has resolved the problem
