So it appears from the reviews everyone is happy with the sales process at the beginning and unhappy with the process of making a claim and getting treated fairly. Is that about right or would you dispute that?

You got that right. Budget are very happy to take your money, as long as you don't claim. Then you are put under the the microscope.

it seems that all the 5 star reviews made on July 27th were from "customers" aka Budget Direct employees who only joined that same day and have made only 1 review. That's not suspicious is it. These reviews are obviously made up and should be removed! Budget Direct are in fact absolute crap and do not pay up when making a claim!!!

Absolutely right, they put all the money from paying customers into writing the PDS so it is impossible to claim.
they offer best lost baggage apparently, but if your bag is not on you when it is lost, its unattended not lost, so basically, unless you never lose your bag, you cannot make a claim.
Did you know a Hired taxi is a public place, yep, Budget redefine whatever they want to make sure you cannot claim.

When completing a quote the online system initially generates a market value policy quote. If an agreed value is available it will appear on the 'Options' page, once you have selected 'continue online' located underneath the price.

We may offer an agreed value if the vehicle is less than 10 years old; does not have an after-market LPG conversion; and the purchase price is within an acceptable range of the current market value. Otherwise this option will not be offered.

Yes, my son had an accident and Budget has screwed him over totally. 1st putting him at ease by telling him he was covered as he was not at fault, then changing their minds and cancelling his claim. Disgusting and pathetic conduct in general.

Yes. My experience was terrible. Took months to sort out and i had to go to the insurance ombudsman. They didnt want to pay as i had a claim 5 years earlier with another insurer and hadnt listed. The claim woth budget was not at fault. Someone hit my car whilst stationary.
To top it off when you make a claim and cancel your policy they kerp the remainder of your premium

The policy we purchased with Budget Direct was an agreed value of $30250 and in late Fenruary this year, our vehicle was damaged by someone else. To the untrained eyes and feedback from various independant repairers, the car must be a write-off. Budget Direct think otherwise and provided us with a fixing quote of $21284.75 and if agreed, a salvage quote of $3500. In total $24,784.75 and this is not enough to replaced our car at market value. How can we make a stand on this?

I'd need more information to better answer your question. Some of the things I'd like to know are: is there mechanical damage, if so to what extent, also can internal motor issues pop up after the repairs are done. I'd like to think that you should have the option to be paid out or elect to repair the car. Budget Direct won't be out of pocket but the at fault insurer will be out of pocket. Have you got another repair quote to compare the repair bill, you may find that this is higher and may tilt it towards write off. Normally though anything over 75% of the car value is a write off so not sure why Budget has recommended repairs when they don't have to pay out. Sounds as if the insurers are looking after each other. If this was my car, I'd have concerns with the integrity of the structure post repairs and if mechanical, possibly expensive issues down the track that would be hard to prove once you get the car handed back and you would have to pay out of your pocket. Hope this helps.

Hi. This might be a bit late but you need to go to the insurance ombudsman.
This company likes taking your premium each year but doesnt like paying claims. There are so many exclusions yhst are not disclosed at time of purchase.
I had a shocking experience with them and would advise anyone to stay away from them and choose a reputable insurer to save a few dollars is not worth the mental anguish and fight if you have to claim.

Beware would not pay out on policy. Son was in a accident other party at fault. Car ride off now in process of legal action.

The claim service is horrendous they will drag it out as long as possible then denial your claim for the most obscure reason great taking your money don't want to know you when you make a claim then cancel your policy even if it is not your fault don't go near this company just look at the claims made reviews.By far the worst insurance company on the Aussie market be warned

TERRIBLE, they will try to put anything over you to get out off a claim. My advise is to read there policy the underwriters very carefully (even then you will probably not understand what you are covered for), If you don't read your policy and understand it you might find Budget are not there, and doing everything they can to wriggle out of a claim, when you need them.

I want to know if a uninsured driver hits my car. Will the insurer repair my car whether or not they can get money from the uninsured driver? Does my car get repaired straight away? Or do i have to wait til the money owing is recovered?

My experience (I've never made a claim), they're quick at getting the money from you but what are you getting? I've just had 3 telemarketing calls that were insurance related and they seem to do the tactics you've mentioned if you do need to make a claim, so what's the point?

When I get the renewal notice, I call them. I've always been given some kind of discount. And if you have a cheaper quote then I'm sure they'll review it. I've never managed to get a cheaper quote tbh.

its not easy as you think, they give online quotes, when you want to claim, that's when the drama starts, i took to the their direct repair centre in laverton, they will always try to reject the claim if they can, they didn't do a good job. total unprofessional. never go there. the simple thing is if you pay lemon you get lemon. that's all.

If you want my advice, you will look elsewhere for Car Insurance. Budget Direct are as shonky as they come. Customer Service doesn't exist, you will be lied to, stuffed around and if you believe some of the other reviewers, the repairs will be second rate. From my experience they will do all they can to find a way to reject your claim, so be warned. Remember you only get what you pay for!!

Their Customer Service stinks. If you have to lodge a claim, you will be stuffed around, lied to and die waiting for any sort of follow up. You would be a fool to take out Insurance with this mob!

My 25 year old son took out comprehensive insurance with budget direct .. the car had a RWC .. unfortunately he was involved in a accident two weeks after getting the car and his licence and the car is a right off ... Budget direct won't pay the claim as they say he didn't supply an independent condition report .. im confused . Doesn't a RWC suffice anymore ? Has anyone else heard of this new rule?or are they just trying nonsense so they don't have to pay out ???

I was a push of a button away from getting insurance with Budget Direct due to cheap quote but the level of negative reviews I'm seeing here just scares the hell out of me. Thank God for these reviews, I'm now willing to pay couple of hundred bucks more than regret later.

On a second thought, BD is relatively better than the rest in terms of percentage of bad reviews vs. good reviews. Guess will have to stick with the least undesirable.

A Vehicle only has to be of a road worthy condition at the time of the actual test. The certificate is only valid for 30 days for administration reasons e.g. Transfer of ownership. What is meant by this is that after a car has been check there is nothing stopping a persons from making a vehicle unroad worthy. For example a vehicle passes with good tyres and after the certificate has been issued they then take the wheels off and put bald tyres on the vehicle. Vehicle still has a current RWC however the tyres are now unroadworthy. A RWC is not a condition report it is a declaration that a vehicle 'was' road worthy at a certain time however it may not be now. This is a common misconception. Out of interest in Victoria it is also illegal to sell a car with registration unless you the seller have provided a current RWC. So when you sell your car with rego and no RWC you are still liable for all fines and infringements relating to the car.

I received a renewal notice for comprehensive car insurance from Budget Direct. It was at a much higher price than my policy last year at $913.70. I didn't know that they could automatically debit the credit card which I paid with last year. I am really annoyed that they can do this. I thought that if you didn't renew insurance, it would lapse. As this is all done now, what can I do to cancel policy and how much money will I lose? Does the 21 day cooling off period apply? I have another car which I have just taken insurance out with them as well.

No more cooling off period once you've passed the initial 21 days. I would suggest you pay the cancellation fees and look for a better insurer

Thanks Devon. I have since cancelled both policies with them. One was within the 21 day cooling off period so I will be refunded in full. Passed the 21 days on the second car but I only have to pay a small penalty fee of $40 plus the prorata amount. The cheapest insurance I have found is Woolworths comprehensive car insurance at $350 per car but best to research yourself.
