Terrible product. Stay away
Gas boosted solar unit was installed by the builder. First issue was having to remove the water saving device from shower heads otherwise it would go from hot to cold during showers. This was done by a plumber.
Just shy of 4 years old, we had rusty water caused by the tank rusting. We had to pay for our own plumbers to investigate and get consumer affairs to act on our behalf before chromagen would replace the tank. The tank was still under warranty. Now less than 12 months on and the new tank has shown problems . I need to release water from ...Read more
the relief valve daily to prevent brown water coming from the tank. As I write this, I am waiting for a plumber to attend and replace the frost valve for the fourth time while thousands of litres of water go down the drain. Time to ditch it I think and cut my losses now

No hot water then hot water
One minute it’s great then not & im in rental property. Plus my dog chewed the lead for gas booster so I called chromagen got new lead paid for electrician to install. $240 later yeah hot water for like 10 min then go e again. Told real estate what happened they sent their builder guy out, he said he fixed it as the wires in lead were wired wrong so he adjusted other wires and it worked. Plumber leaves and no hot water again. So I get a call from plumbers boss he said it will cost me $1350 to get this fixed. New booster but better brand - oh but hang on I only rent.

Leaking water tank
Our builder supplied a Chromagen 200 lt gas powered solar hot water system. The water tank lasted 2 and a half years but I will give Chromagen a five star rating for their service as they had it replaced within a week under warranty. Happy with their service. Thank you.

No Support, Faulty Panel
Hello,
We have the Chromagen Eternity G20 with the solar panels. Last night i could hear water running on the roof so i had to turn of the water from the main as it was a lot of water. When looking at it today we could see that the water is coming from the solar panels. Would have been easier to just get a call back.
Called Chromagen three time.
Lodged a request online nearly 10 days ago,
haven't heard any thing.
Very poor in customer care.

Intermittent fault
I had this installed, and have an intermittent fault where the water isn’t hot. I turn the tap on and off until I hear the solenoid click on then the hot water works. Sometimes it just won’t start at all?
I rang for service and the girl said straight away that it needed a new electrical board and they were due in 3 months.
We waited 3 months and I rang to see if the boards were in and she said they no longer sold it as a spare part and I needed to buy either a new unit or recoditoned unit but I am worried I’ll have the same issue again. ...Read more
It seems to me that a sensor is playing up like a pressure sensor to measure gas pressure or something similar? Not sure what to do.....has anyone else had an intermittent fault? And fixed it easily/cheaply?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Continued Problems and no support
Had heater for approximately 1.5years with continued problems with beeping, fluctuations in water temperature to shower and gas back up always coming on. Chromagen will not reply to my emails and when I spoke with them they said they won't come out to fix unless I pay expensive call out and parts charges as it is out of its one year warranty. I don't think this is acceptable as the heater cost a lot of money and I would expect it to work for many years. I will now need to make a formal complaint to consumer affairs to get it sorted and suggest anyone else in the same situation does the same.

Absolute Crap !!! Warning - Stay away from this product !!
My hot water system was installed in April 2018 and ever since I have had it the gas keeps igniting to produce hot water. I had the beeping issue but that was fixed (we hope).
I rang the builder, I rang Chromagen and the Chromagen rep keeps bouncing it back to the builder and doesn't return my calls. I rang the call centre who said they would put in a service request but I've had to ring another six times too see what's going on.
In my previous house I had a gas instantaneous and a gas cook top. I have used MORE gas in the last 4 months than...Read more

Intermittent hot water
My house is only 9 months old and already l have had hot water problems with the system. No hot water on numerous occasions lasting days. Initially told by plumber the fan speed was too high and they adjusted that. Next time they attended they told me to turn the power off and on again to reset it which is not the answer l am ok with as booklet states this should not occur. Next service attendance told to run two taps until system kicks back in as it might be the solar panels is not an answer that works with me. Still no hot water. Builder has...Read more
wiped their hands saying its Chromagens issue. They tell me l will have to pay for service if no fault found. Even after telling them systems makes rapid beeps and pipes are not hot. Still today no hot water. But of course by the time they attend system will reset. I just want a hot water service that works and an answer as to why this is happening. Update. After l recorded the water running and the heater not kicking in they finally replaced the hws. Its great to have hot water againSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

costs a lot in the long run.
Just purchased a property with a Chromagen solar system & it is rusting out. I mean to say, who in there right mind would put a carbon steel framework on a panel that is close to the ocean. Actually, who in their right mind would use carbon steel on such a product anywhere. Soo stupid I just can't believe it, definitely better to use a different supplier of this type of equipment & I'd strongly suggest something that doesn't rust. Lets face it, we are living in the 21st century after all & are people still really that stupid. I can't give anything less than 1 star unfortunately.

Beeping Hotwater System Ready to Blow Up???
The Chromagen 200L Gas Boosted Solar System was installed by my builder who had picked up a Watersun Job.
Installation by plumber in October, started giving Fault Signals from the day it was installed. Plumber blames Chromagen for lacking support to plumbers and bad quality systems supplied, does not want to liase with Chromagen, believes system is faulty, giving beeping sound and red flashing light, saying a problem exists between the Roof Panel and the control unit. Builder had never used Chromagen before and was sold by sales rep. Builder d...Read more

Crappy System and Worst Service
The system is brand new but fails to maintain water temperature when two taps are using at the same time. Small temperature drop is expectable but not that huge cold water flood in. We called the hotline and told them the problem. Sounded they understood and didn't deny their problem like last time. They sent a "technician" to us but then everything turned from hopeful to hopeless. He came to our home, just stood, never ever checked the system or taps, just said "nothing I can do", then left. What did they mean to send someone out but didn't ai...Read more
m to sort out the problem? I don't need someone to just come and tell me "certified" without any checking. Be honest I still think there is a problem, if not it is just crappy. The story hasn't come to the end. I called back the hotline to complain and ask them to send another one to fix it. The hotline lady was just too clever to call back the same technician and repeated the same answer to me. What I could do? Speechless. Terrible.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Forget chromagen, solahart more expensive but so much cheaper in the long term. I've had nothing but trouble with chromogen and the only time you know that you have a problem is when you turn the hot water service switch off in your electrical box otherwise if you leave the hot water service on you will always have hot water but you will be paying for it. Conclusion is turn off your hot water system at the power box and see if chromagen delivers you hot water I have been disappointed twice so far wish I had never bought chromogen

No Hot Water
As others have mentioned, I am facing the same issue. The water comes as lukewarm and not hot. It takes 2-3 minutes atleast even to get the lukewarm water. Most of the water is wasted rather than used. Its even difficult to find where the temperature setting of the heater is located and the company is not very helpful in providing any assistance.

Wouldnt recommend to anyone
Had it installed by the company building my house in August 2015 and in just over two and a half years it started playing up rang Chromagen about a noise in the tank like a golf ball rolling around and they said it was from the water getting too hot as the sun is hotter now and wasn't only there product doing it. Then a panel sensor went which reading reviews from years ago they had the sensor problem back then and was meant to have fixed this problem so it doesn't happen and they said wasn't covered in the warranty it doesn't say its not cover...Read more
ed it says (All other components supplied by Chromogen including valves elements thermostats and anodes 1 year nothing about sensors so I got the plumber they said was there service people for my area and they replaced it at my cost). Now when I have a shower the water goes hot cold hot cold ect I bet when I call up next week to find out what the problem could be I will get the run around. If I had to replace it I would never buy this brand again and if you are building a new house check what hot water system they are putting in. Had my rant thxsPurchased in August 2021.

Worst services ever!
Their product broken down within 12 month! I called them, they send someone to fix it! They were not honest with their actions. No communications whatsoever! Worst experience I ever had with any services organisation!
I don't have the exact change, and the guy on the job said it was fine because he has no cash to give me change, and then later on, the company called me and accused me for short paying money, I asked them if it was okay to leave and they said it was fine, again company said they can't finish job because no one was there! Worse product and services I have experienced! Do not use them!

IT DOSEN'T WORK IT'S RUBBISH....
Had the system installed by builder and ever since the start we had problems with the hot water pressure daily. The water needed to run for a long time, maybe 3-4minutes before we had some warm water. We even don't no what it means to have hot water with this system. This system cost as a fortune every on water and gas bills every 2 month. Had multiple plumbers coming to fix the system to last a little while longer. Now we are at the same scenario again were we have either no hot water all all or it just comes out lukewarm. We called in a plumb...Read more
er again and his best advice to us was get rid of this " unreliable non working system"; He said he can make it work again, however he can not guarantee how long it will last, on top of that parts are very difficult to get. For us we will have to get another product were we know it will work for our best interest. Advice to other readers, we only can talk about our experience with this unreliable product......E&MSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Faulty!!!!
My system was installed only 4 months ago and to my wonderful surprise it now has problems with incessant beeping, i've been told this is due to a faulty wiring issue on the panels.
Of course i'm expected to be home during the week (work full time) or they will charge me to come after hours.
NOT HAPPY that a brand new system on a brand new home already has problems, yet i have to be inconvienced to have it fixed. Chromagen should be arranging an after hours service to fix this, why should i put out and lose a day off work?? - CUSTOMER SERVICE NON EXISTANT!

Frost valve wasting water solution
I have this system with ongoing frost valve water wastage and have assembled an accurate electronic temperature controller with low voltage solenoid to control water release much more accurately and reliably than the original valve at reasonable cost.
I can provide this kit complete with wiring and fittings with or without installation.

We had the same problem with the same system. Called the installer who took the water saver restrictor out of the shower heads. That solved it for us
Thanks for your help.
We have a shower in the main bathroom and the ensuite and both are effected.
Neither have water saver restrictor's unfortunately.
Hi Phil I have the same problem.did you end up finding a fix?

Hi, our Chromogen Eternity G20 solar boost stopped heating the water.
What could be the problem? could it be the thermostate?

Hi Kush,
in the tank is below a certain temperature (approx. 55°C i.e. there has been recent high consumption or low solar gain) the gas booster will ignite and heat the passing water to 70°C (for killing off any potential bacteria) before passing through a tempering valve where the water is tempered to a maximum of 50°C (as per the national plumbing code). With this said, there is no user controllable temperature setting as this is all preset and the issue you are facing in regards to lukewarm water, is more than likely related to an issue with the tempering valve or gas booster. Unfortunately the time delay you are experiencing for the hot water to reach your tap location is all to do with the way your homes plumbing has been run. This is due to the fact that the water sitting in the pipe between your tap and the hot water system goes cold and all this water has to be pushed out before the hot water can get through.Sorry to hear this has been your experience. The way gas boosted solar systems operate; when a hot water tap is opened, water from the tank passes through the gas booster, where if the water ... Read more
