Can live without it.

Great looking espresso machine for approximately $ 500. Machine has some great features found in expensive machines that are more expensive.. One shortcoming... Brewed coffee is just not very hot. Don't like coffee that is not very hot. According to customer services... there is no way one can adjust the temperature.

Very Competent Automatic Coffee Machine

published

I use this for four to eight coffees every day and it has not skipped a beat. Very happy with the quality of this coffee machine. Grind, strength and shot volume are adjustable, coffee always turns out well with a nice crema. Only flaw is the steam wand which needs to be more directional and have a better flow, but still froths milk or cream well if you have the patience. Would not hesitate to buy the new model when this machine finally wears out.

A further 12 months on and this machine is still going strong. It has outlived several Breville coffee makers. Still very happy with the Delonghi, and will not hesitate to purchase the new model when the time comes.

Love this machine

published

We have had this machine for about three years or more and use it atleast 4 times a day. It works so well. We made sure it was made in Italy and not China like some.
It is noisy, too noisy, but we put up with it. The coffee, ground or beans, comes out well.
We would buy again.

Better than my Tassimo!

published

Not AS automated as Tassimo but far more adjustable regarding strength, quantity and quality. Tassimo only did one coffee I liked-Kenco Medium Roast-but discontinued it a while ago, hence my purchase of this machine. I now have a huge range of beans to choose from.
I've found the milk frother OK and you can make more coffee quite quickly if you follow the instructions,ie vent the frother after use.

Great machine

Had this machine for about 2 years, going great. Original one broke during warranty and got replaced with a brand new one. This one gets used every day a few times and hasn't missed a beat.

Very happy

published

I have had this for a few years now and it gets used a lot. I have found it very reliable and easy to clean and maintain.

Obviously the taste of the coffee depends on the beans you use, but I have found that if I buy good quality beans, I get a great coffee as good as or better than some that the cafes around me sell.
Easy to use and maintain
Pretty big on my kitchen bench

Good coffee, too delicate machine

published

Our Saeco Magic Deluxe has been showing its age. Expecting its demise, I bought a second-hand Magnifica to try out. The Magnifica is now dead, the Magic Deluxe is still soldiering on.

Just as other reviews stated, the Magnifica makes a very good brew, better than the Magic Deluxe. It is, however, nowhere near as robust. We tried coarse-ground Vietnamese coffee using the bypass: after the first brew the Magnifica clogs up, as the eject mechanism cannot remove the sloppy mess. The Magic Deluxe can, and keeps going.

More tragic was how, when an impatient family member randomly pressed a few buttons on the warming-up Magnifica, the machine self-destructed.
Good coffee
Very sensitive to grind, easily killed by hamfisted user

If you still have the use of this machine, try increasing the amount of the pre ground Vietnamese coffee. Perhaps 1.25 or 1.5 scoops of coffee.

Love it

Got our 1st one about 9'years ago, and loved it. Replaced it about 2 years ago, newer model, still very happy. Great price. Easy to clean. Love the simple controls. We have our grind on 4. Like LaVassa
coffee beans blue packet. Some times just heat milk in microwave for flat white. Makes great cappuccino's, & short black's.
Makes great coffee

Excellent for the money

published

I like my machines simple, and this qualifies. Easy to understand controls, plenty of settings. I can have a hot mug of coffee 150 seconds after turning it on! Very easy to clean- has a warning light that the bin needs emptying. Can turn out two cups at a time every two minutes. Can handler ground coffee or beans.
I don't use the frother very much, but agree it slows down the productivity. But then it's meant to be a basic machine, and it does that well.
Good price. Well made. Looks good. Many settings. Flexible coffee inputs (ground or beans)
Tank only holds 3 mugs of water.

UPDATE
Machine died after 6 years and I went out and bought another identical one! Purchase date below is the second one.

Purchased in February 2021 at The Good Guys for $590.00.

OK

I do not think that I would buy one of these again. The simple request to DeLonghi re the problem and they didn't reply. Other people on the internet had the same problem and no one had an answer,
It has worked fine for nearly three years and makes quite good coffee.
The coffee is not really hot unless you heat the cups by boiling the jug and pre-heating them with that water. It is slow especially when you want to return from milk-frothing to make extra cups of coffee - it takes about 2 mins to "cool" down and allow you to grind more coffee. It was quite expensive but then others are the same or similar price. A service response from DeLonghi is non-existent when it got itself all bitter and twisted and refused to heat water.

My magnifica is taking a long time to start up, almost 5-10minutes. Could it be a thermostat? I spoke to a technician about it and he tells me it could be a generator replacement. To repair myself would only cost the part (about $140), if I got technician to do it I have to add at least $115 on top of that, so I'm trying to diy and I've seen an easy tutorial on how to replace the generator, but I want to make sure it's the right part to replace before I go to all this effort and cost. any help out there?

there is an online shop in Germany- where I bought parts before- check out www.kaffeeonkel-shop.de - all in German - but pump is Pumpe- and most things can be translated anyway- there is a pump for around 20€ for the ESAM series- there be Tax and postage on top of that - can't be too expensive to England-

Our infuser is stuck at the top of the machine. We have tried unplugging and leaving for a while to try and reset it but no luck. Any suggestions anyone? Apart from this we have loved the machine and will be very sad if it has to go in the bin!

This is exactly how our machine finished up. I too tried to reset it a number of times, without success. It is in the garage now, if I have the time and inclination I will dismantle it and try to physically reset it.

My husband took the back off to see if he could do anything manually but no luck. I'm devasted! It sounds like it's a pretty common occurrence as it also happened to a friends machine as well. Very dissappointing for the price that was paid for the machine!
