Hello the decorative red rubber that goes around the cyclone is falling apart and bits of the rubber have broken off leaving gaps. The Hoover still works fine and I have noticed that other people's machines have the same issue. Is the red rubber just there to make the Hoover look nice or does it serve a purpose? And why does it degrade?

Thank you.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your question.

If this particular rubber strip peels off the outside of the cyclone, it should have no expected negative impact on the performance of the machine.

The canister on my Dyson Cinetic Animal Pro will not slide back up after emptying?
I seem to have done it by accident on other occasions, but this time it's just not happening. Any ideas?

Hi Suzy,

Thanks for your question.

It sounds as if you may have a Cinetic Big Ball Animal Pro rather than a DC54 Animal Pro.

If you have a Cinetic Big Ball Animal Pro please see this video for troubleshooting this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvBf-3IQtg4

If you have a DC54 Animal Pro, please email us to clarify which part is not sliding up and we will assist you.

For any further assistance, please email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

Can I get a refund or replacement for an older model Dyson? the Dyson DC54 that I have has dirt passing through the cyclone (no pre motor filter) means they end up in the HEPA filter hidden in the ball itself. As the HEPA filter is not user friendly replaceable I would like to have it swapped for the older DC29 which is still available in Target and Big W. My vacuum is still under warranty. but having it sent back to a service centre to replace the hidden filter is a pain and will cost me money once the warranty runs out.

Ring Dyson. Hope you registered it. The noise, the poor performance and the very dirty emptying process have left us with a product we do not like. Gay

I would contact Dyson regarding the noise problem because there's something wrong with your cleaner. Mine isn't that noisy at all which I'm happy about. I find it difficult replacing the barrel after emptying and always have to ask a neighbour or friend to fit it for me. Such a headache!!!!

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your question.

We are disappointment to read about the issue you are experiencing.
A DC54 Animal Pro is expected to operate at a noise level which would not require ear protection, we can certainly understand your frustration if this is not the case with your machine. If a Turbine head is excessively noisey, there may be a blockage of break in the airflow. We would encourage you to get in touch with our customer care helpline on 1800 239 766 to receive support.

Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

We purchased the Dyson DC54 Animal Pro on 4/1/16, it is our first Dyson Product and it has been something of a disappointment. Firstly, the bin capacity is so small it needs emptying after vacuuming a single large room and secondly the dust gets up between the filter and the side of the bin beyond the "red line" even when the amount of dust in the bin is not to capacity. Emptying it then becomes a messy business.

Previously we had a Miele which was somewhat cheaper and did an effective job. While the Miele had disposable bags we were able to obtain an after market device that fitted on to the tube handle and collected the dust and was easy to empty.

Unfortunately it does not fit the Dyson, does Dyson have a similar product or plans for one?

I'd say the reason why it needs empting all the time is because your previous vacuum cleaner wasn't doing a good job,the more times you use it the less it will need to pick up.

Empty it in to a plastic shopping bag easy as, Why would you buy a vacuum cleaner where you need to keep buying bags? thats one of the main reasons why I bought a Dyson, my previous cleaner never had bags either, just a way for the maker to make more coin from you.

My Sister and Sister in law raved about their Dyson vacuums both having upright for years we have bought cheap vacuums in Sept/Oct 2015 we decided to purchase DC54 model Dyson from Harvey Norman a huge expense for us, today while emptying the barrel the lid separated from the barrel, Is this Normal? Can it be put back together? My other all experience to date with my Dyson has been disappointing, It tips over, one of my brushes has shredded it bristles, Its hard to set back into the base, it fills up quickly requiring emptying which makes a mess not good if you are sensitive to dust. And being vision impaired I find your buttons hard to use. It seems this product is about design not function, I needed the product to function (form follows function) Dyson dropped the Ball!

I'm not sure as to your problem,on top of the canister there is a red button that pushes a red slide, this releases the bottom dust trap, in- between the slides the is a grey press button this releases the centre piece of plastic for cleaning ease,I hope that was helpful

The mess you refer to when emptying the vacuum is "normal" and I, along with many others are complaining about the amount of dust that escapes during this process. Have you considered asking the store for a refund?

I bought the Animal Pro yesterday and I'm happy enough with its cleaning ability, but like everyone else emptying it is a pain, I don't seem to have one of these barrel scrapers people are talking about, should my model have come with it?

Yes it's a blue tool that clicks onto the side of the canister/bin right adjacent to the button you press to empty it. Looks like a small spatula.

BABS
BABS

Yes, as Jack mentioned, it's a blue ladle like tool but I hadn't noticed it when I first used the machine and when emptying the canister in our garden bin accidentally dropped the tool in the bin too! I then had to sift through the dust to find it!

Hi Nessa,

Thank you for your question.

Listening to customer feedback we found that the shroud wiper was either getting misplaced or was not being used correctly. We also found that customers preferred to use the Combination tool provided set to the brush setting to clean around the Cyclone.

If you require any further assistance please feel free to contact our helpline on 1800 239 766, we are here to help.

Hi SunTzu,

Thank you for your question. The DC54 Animal Pro is in our latest range of machines and comes with the Cinetic Science technology with no filters to wash or replace. It also comes with multiple tools for different jobs around your home. Hi SunTzu...hopefully you have NOT purchased the Dyson...this vacuum is USELESS at best...worst designed Dyson product ever and a disgrace to the company, cannot believe they still have it for sale!!!...only purchase if you enjoy being covered in dirt and dust every time you empty the vacuum (which is about every 1-2 minutes assuming your house is not that dirty)!!

I have just bought the Animal Pro DC54. I didn't read the instructions properly and I washed out the filter in cold tap water. Would I have caused some damage to my new vacuum? I am so upset, I have been waiting for a while to purchase one of these.....

Let the fliter dry out completely before putting it back. Maybe you'll be lucky and it will be okay. But in all honesty. ...they are absolutely the worst vacuum!!!.. like most people who have purchased it, we all hate it with a passion!!

Hi, I have a Dyson Animal DC54. It is a great vacuum. My only issue is that the filter seems to putting dust smells back into the air & as I have asthma & suffer year round with hay fever I am finding this an issue. Is there a way of cleaning the filter or something as it is getting unbearable? Thank You. Other wise love the machine, this is my second Dyson as I brought the very first model 15 or so years ago its yellow & grey & we still have it as our car vacuum.lol. Thank you for your time Julie NZ.

The DC 54 doesn't have a motor prefilter like the older Dysons do and if there is a post motor filter I am not sure how it comes out, I didn't see any reference to it in the manual when we got ours so I don't think it has one. Sorry I can't help more.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Julie.a.avery.9,

Sorry to hear your machine is giving off a bad smell. From what it is describing it sounds like the cyclone of this machine and not the filter.

Should any form of liquid or damp enter the machine, this may cause it to harbour a smell. I would recommend carrying out the following steps which may dispel any odour.

After emptying you may rinse the clear bin in cold water as per the instructions in your user guide, ensuring that no detergents are used. Do not remove the bin inner or cone seals whilst washing the clear bin and most importantly ensure that the clear bin is completely dry before placing back onto the vacuum cleaner. Please note that the cyclone top assembly, which attaches on top of the bin, must be removed but cannot be rinsed in water.

The cyclone can be left outside for 48 hours to air out, this will help dispel most of the odor.

I just bought my Dyson yesterday..I owned a wetheir prof for 12 years..theused a demo at the shop and suction could be felt on the carpet..mine wrks but I woulbnt say wow!.. my old vacum which was at the end of it's use by date had more suction .when I take the head off and put my hand over the end I can feel suction although strong doesn't want to suck my hand in like my old vac .is there a fault with my machine or is that the norm?..if so I am very disappointed

1 answer

Hi I just took the head off my Dyson to test the suction against my hand and I felt a very strong suck indeed. I then changed the head to the rotating head which I use on my rug which is a shaggy rug with threads of about 1.5cm long and it total lifted the shag making it look like new. I'm not sure what vacuum you had previously but mine was a Volta(2330watts) which does not suck on my hand as hard as the dyson nor lift the shag as good. I do however empty the Dyson after every vacuum. Maybe take it back in case it's faulty. I will however tell you that I did try the new bagless Bosch which did have a stronger suction however everything else seemed difficult like the metal heavier stick which is attached to the head and couldn't be lifted easily up stairs-more importantly the filter still needed cleaning... what a pain... so if it's just the superduper suction you need maybe the dyson is not for you. I would just hate to go back to high maintenance vacuums, I don't have the time! Jen

the dyson did not live up to what it was supposed to do for me. don't get me wrong the machine is defiantly powerfull and strong suction but after buying the animal 54 I could still see cat hair between the carpet, i also have a shaggy rug which i could not even vac that as it just sucked the carpet hair up and would not let me move the wand nicely over the carpet, the bag free container is also so messy to clean it all gets stuck and it. i rang dyson direct when i as having problems with the cat hair n my shaggy rug they were great and sent me out free attachments for me to have hoping it would help with my issues unfortantly it didn't. i returned the machine an bought a miele cat n dog for half the price and its FABULOUS !!!

Dyson customer service are fantastic. The head on this vac did not work well on my carpet, Dyson provided and alternative one which is fantastic. They were pleasant to deal with and knew their products. I did have an issue with being shipped the wrong part initially, and again when I called their customer service team were great and rectified the issue. Can't ask for much more than that.

Hi Diane,
since we got the flat out floor head to go with the animal pro, it's been great. Dyson customer service are really great, however they are let down byy their courier company (in Melbourne, Australia) who are bloody hopeless. Deb
