Hi, My new Dyson does not function beyond a couple of minutes on the low power mode anymore. The blue charging lights indicate it is charging, but after a few minutes it stops and the charge is gone. Any help?

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your question.

The V8 is designed to run for up to 7 minutes on the Maximum suction setting. If the run time is shorter, and it is making a pulsating sound, this indicates an obstruction of airflow, and this video can assist in locating and removing the obstruction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpxRl17N03E

If that does not resolve the issue please email our Dyson experts at [email protected] including your contact details, a description of the issue and the machine's serial number and we will be happy to help.

Hi Deb,

Thanks for your question.

The machine will take 5 hours to fully charge. As the battery becomes more full, more of the lights will be illuminated in blue from 1 to 3. When the battery is fully charged, the lights will all turn off.

If you have any further questions, please email [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your question. V8 machine have two power modes and they are sold set to the Maximum suction mode. This mode has a 6-7 minute run time. Please switch the silver oval button over to the normal powerful suction mode to extend your run time to 25-40 minutes depending on the floor tool or accessory selected.

If this does not resolve the issue Please email our Dyson experts at [email protected] including your contact details, the machine's serial number and a description of the issue and we will be happy to help.

My boss & I both get shocked when we use our Dyson, also. We live in a fairly humid climate and only plug it in when it is in need of charging. We do not leave it plugged in. When I last used it (a few days ago) the shocks got more frequent and more intense!!!! This is not acceptable!!!
What are you going to do to fix it?

1 answer
Dyson
DysonDyson

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your question.

As there is no electricity coming out of the charging port, please be assured this is a result of static only.
As this is specific to the environment it can be very difficult to replicate this effect in different locations and so the following tips can help:

Static build up occurs with friction, in this case it can be the friction of high speed dust against surfaces inside the machine, or from certain surfaces such as carpets or wearing socks of some fibre types while vacuuming. Low humidity can also increase the likelihood of static build up.

It can be reduced by increasing the indoor humidity, having moisturized rather than dry hands when using the machine, or washing and drying your hands to remove any static build up on them before using the machine and changing the type of footwear that are worn while vacuuming, or vacuum with bare feet.

If you need further assistance, please email our Dyson experts at [email protected] including your contact details, a description of the issue and the machine's serial number and we will be more than happy to help.

Hi there,

Thank you for your question.

With our V8 machines, an unusual noise or pulsating/continuous on and off sound can mean the motor is not getting sufficient airflow, which often means there is an obstruction in the airflow of the machine. Please start by checking your machine over as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpxRl17N03E

If this does not resolve the issue please reach out at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you further.

Hi Hannah,

Although what you experienced was unpleasant, we assure you that it was a harmless static shock and not an electric shock from the mains supply.

Static electricity builds up easily in plastics. In your cleaner it is created by fast moving particles rubbing against its plastic and metal surfaces.

If static charge builds up in the machine, a natural place for it to discharge is through the charge point, because this is made from metal and is more conductive than the handle, so it's easier for charge to transfer through it.

Static charge can build up more easily in dry air than in humid air, and can be affected by what surface you are standing on, what shoes you are wearing etc. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to completely prevent it for an average consumer.

To resolve the problem you are experiencing we would advise you to empty the clear bin, wash the filters and wipe the machine with an anti-static wipe or similar product.

Should we be able to assist further, please reach out to [email protected] and we will be in touch.

Best wishes,

If I were you, I would see if there is some sort of rubber grommet stopper that could be placed in that hole to cover the metal, and therefore alleviate the static issue. I'm actually quite surprised that the engineering folks over at Dyson weren't intelligent enough to come up with that solution on their own. I guess that's why there are the Darwin awards.

Hi Amber,

Thank you for your query.

It sounds like you may have your machine on MAX mode. If you move the slider on top of your machine away from MAX your machine should be easier to push.

I hope this helps, however if we can assist further, please reach out via [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to help.

I keep getting a shock when I'm using my V8 animal on carpets. Is there any way to stop this???

Hi there,

Thank you for your question.

Due to the dust spinning through the bin of the machine, on the odd occasion you may receive a static shock from the machine.

To avoid this happening, we'd suggest to wipe the clear bin of the machine with a soft dry anti-static cloth (available from your local office supply store).

We also suggest applying hand cream (to your hands) before vacuuming.

This should help, but if we can be of further assistance please give us a call on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

I have a Dyson v8 animal extra. It is 16 months old and it only lasts for 6 minutes after a full charge. It used to last 20 min. But now it's not. What should I do?

1 answer

DysonDyson

Hi there,

Thank you for your query.

Just to confirm, the Dyson V8 provides 6-7 minutes on MAX power mode. To achieve a longer run time, switching the machine to powerful suction mode will provide 25-40 minutes of power (depending on which tool is in use).

Should you wish to discuss this further, please forward your details to [email protected] with your details and our Dyson Experts will be in touch and happy to help.

I bought the v8 animal today fully charged it then went to use it. The large brush keeps stopping spinning and I have to keep stopping and starting and on the boost mode it won’t move on the carpet at all is this faulty?

1 answer
Dyson
DysonDyson

Hi Vivien,

Thank you for reaching out.

On some carpets (particularly thicker carpets, or carpets with a thick backing), you may need to switch from the MAX mode to clean as some of these carpets may not allow sufficient airflow through, and the head of the machine will stop spinning as a precaution.

I would encourage you to try the machine in powerful suction mode, and if this continues, please forward your details through to [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to help.

Hi Kate,

While the Dyson Digital Motor V8 makes a very different sound to typical vacuum cleaners, the noise of the machine shouldn't exceed 82 dBa.

Hi Max,

Thanks for your question.

With our V8 machines, a pulsating or continuous on and off sound means the motor is not getting sufficient airflow, this means there is a blockage in the machine. Please start by checking your machine over as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpxRl17N03E

Vacuum head sticking to rug like a suction cup. It's a large 10x16 "silk" low pile thin area rug. Ive seen others remove part of the gaskets on the upright models however there is no similar option with this model. It occurred with a previous vacuum that did not have a height adjustment.
