I have had my dyson V8 animal for a year and a half. Been working up till yesterday. Just stopped even though it was fully charged. I had the big brush on it and you get nothing. Also the smaller brush. However if i use the long tool it works. Cleaned all the filters thinking it could be that but still wont work when brushes are on. Also cleaned those out too. Any idea what could be causing this. Oh and have on a couple of occasion got a hint of a burning smell. Could the motor be on it way out?

Purchased the Dyson V8 Animal 3rd Jan 2018 (so frustratingly, ONLY just out of warranty) from Harvey Norman Morayfield. My mother has a small 2 bedroom granny flat, and for the past 3 weeks has said that she is needing to re-charge mid clean. Today, she said it had taken 3 re-charges to complete cleaning. I have checked myself that machine is fully charged, only being run on high power, and after testing myself, found it was completely out of charge after only 6 minutes. Would appreciate some advice on what to do to remedy this problem.

Your Dyson V8 has two modes of suction; Max and high power. With the motorised head attached the machine will provide 25-30 minutes on high power mode. Without using a motorised tool it can run up to 40 minutes on high power mode. On Max mode, the machine will run for 7 minutes regardless of the tool in use.

Brush head will not turn. Unit will turn on as normal
All contacts have been cleaned. Could there be a problem with the direct drive motor?
I removed the brush head and when I turn the unit on, I can see the direct drive motor rotate approx 1/4 turn, then it stops. The unit will still be on. Any help would be appreciated

Hm....I dont know, I have a high pile rug which I have to drag backwards over it.

From the very first day using our V8 Animal, it left marks on the hardwood floor. The marks come up but not without extra time and effort. Since the machine was marketed for carpet and hardwood, I think the company should supply a solution w/o cost. I requested help from Dyson and they sent new wheels which do the same thing. I know many users experience the same marks. Will Dyson give a free solution so that I can feel good about purchasing from the company again? Jim Cochran [email removed]

I have actually thru warranty got a new machine because I kept having problems too - I don't know in regards to hard floors but that is a problem you should contact Dyson direct and they are wonderful and helpful and will assist you for free. Just don't be frustrated with them because it isn't the consultant's fault at the end of the day they are just doing their job and if us (the public) don't tell them our problems how are they suppose to know. The direct drive brush roller no longer spins or sucks. Main body of machine works.
Have pulled apart and cleaned machine thoroughly but still not working. Where can I go to in Sydney to get it fixed? Think it might be an electrical issue in the motor.

The Dyson cord-free range have been engineered to work with a trigger to allow you to get the most use out of your battery run time. At this stage, Dyson cord-free machines don't work without the trigger being held.

My V8 animal runs for 30 seconds to a minute on full power and then dies. The length of performance on the lower setting is, as should be expected, longer. We keep the filters clean and check the charge before using. My son has the V6 animal and never has the problems we have had with the V8. This seems to be a pattern for this machine. Is there a fix? The machine is not our main vacuum cleaner so is not over used but it is very frustrating and given the reputation of Dyson I was expecting much better performance. It is only two years old.

I also had this problem, a little under 2 years for the first battery after purchase brand new. The second battery last only 1.5 years. It can only be operated for a minute after full charged. The sign of dying battery. I am horrified to think that I have to keep buying battery every 1.5 years. The second battery was sent to me by Dyson free of charge because the vacuum was still under warranty when the battery died. Now, I would have to fork out some money to buy the 3rd battery. Appalling quality given the price.

do I empty the v8 animal dust chamber before returning to wall?

Yes, I always empty it before recharging, but you don't have too.

My Dyson v8, will only run for 2 minutes on a charge, used to be about 15 minutes (full power) should I send it back or dies it require a new battery?

Crevice tool - for cleaning in corners and confined areas

Mini Motorised tool - designed to provide powerful cleaning in smaller areas, such as upholstry, carpeted stairs and the car

Maybe you have a blockage. Pull apart and check. Also maybe it is not being plugged in properly to charge.

I have the Dyson 8 Animal + stick vacuum, which I enjoy when it is charged. However, I do not enjoy when the battery runs out, which is always quicker than I want. Even though Dyson has extended battery life, it is still not sufficient for my uses.
When is Dyson going to make a stick model were we can replace a charged battery with a dead battery? EVERYONE wants this feature. Why is it not available? I'm rather fed up with it.

While the batteries for the V8 machines can be changed out at the end of their useful life, we don't recommend to routinely swap these out. The batteries on the machine are screwed in place to ensure a reliable consistent connection, and if routinely changed the machine may not work as intended.

As for future machines, we can't comment as all new machines and technologies are kept top secret within our research and development teams until they are ready for launch.

No, what I am referring to is an instant switch-out for one freshly charged battery for the old dead one. Meanwhile, the old dead battery can recharge, and so it goes. I have heard several customers complain about this lack. Many of our home tools, especially power drills, have this handy and much needed instant battery-swap feature. This would be such a fantastic feature on the Dyson stick!! I have no interest switching batteries out on my current machine, undoing screws and all that. I have since returned my Dyson V8 because of my frustration with the lack of this feature.

Noo, but mine is good on my polished wood floors. Leaves no marks. There is a soft roller head “fluffy head” you can buy from Dyson it’s over a hundred dollars. It’s the extra head that co es with the absolute.

The Direct Drive Motorhead of your machine is designed to be used with the brushes spinning across both carpets and hard floors. On carpets, the red nylon bristles dig into carpets to remove dust, dirt and pet hair, while on hard floors the soft carbon fibre brushes reduce static to pick up more fine dust.

Someone borrowed my V8 animal and returned it with the head filled with dirt and dust that has clumped and stuck to the entire inside of the cleaner head. It looks like it was vacuumed up wet and smells and seems to have dried there. I can’t figure out how to dismantle the head to give it a proper clean.

Is there a way to detach the plastic, or the motor head to wipe it all clean? The screws are a Star shape so I can’t even use a regular screw driver.

While we don't recommend undoing any screws, removing the brushbar from the head will give you greater access to inside the head. You can see how to remove the brushbar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XILxd1SRbSQ. Once removed, we recommend cleaning with a soft dry cloth or dry paper towel.

Our V8 animal is just over a year old and used very infrequently. The battery shows full charge but the vacuum will run a few seconds and then stops with the battery showing no charge. We have cleaned the filters and cleared any obstructions. Could this be because of a faulty battery?

I’ve never had that issue so I would definitely contact them you should still have warranty :) try and get a replacement or get it looked at if you can.
