Hi, I have a Dyson V8 Absolute. It's 3 years old now, but hasn't had a lot of use. I've started to experience an issue that is very frustrating.

When the Dyson is fully charged, I'm only getting about 30 seconds of use out of it on the Maximum suction setting, even though the battery lights indicate that the Dyson is still charged. When I place it back into the Charging Cradle and immediately remove it again, the Dyson works again, however only for about another 30 seconds. When it's in the Charging Cradle the lights are indicating that it's fully charged. For info, the filters are regularly washed/cleaned.

What could the problem be? Why am I not able to use it for anymore than 30 seconds at a time? What can I do to rectify this problem.

Regards, Paul

Our battery has all of a sudden become an issue too. We only get 3-4 minutes of use, whereas previously it would give is enough to do the whole job. Totally disappointed.

Should I leave it on charge when not useing it?

I don’t think it’s necessary, battery dies quickly if it’s on charge all the time. You should just keep an eye and charge it when battery lowers to 20% of charge.

You can, why not, though it’s not necessary, you can use it with min 20% of battery and battery lasts quite long.

I have a Dyson v8 absolute. It is just over 2 years old. The battery, although showing 3 bars after charging, only lasts 2-3 mins on normal setting. It used to last for my whole house clean but suddenly it has just stopped working. Is that a battery failure? Or is it a faulty machine. Ask because I have an extended warranty with it and if it is the battery failure I will be up for the service charge as well as the battery as it may not be covered under warranty. What is the expected lifespan of a battery? 2.3 years is terrible for such an expensive machine.

So batteries only last 2 years and then you are up for a new battery at $109. Reading around the web they only last 3 years. They don’t tell you this when you buy one.

V8 Animal

I have had my dyson V8 animal for a year and a half. Been working up till yesterday. Just stopped even though it was fully charged. I had the big brush on it and you get nothing. Also the smaller brush. However if i use the long tool it works. Cleaned all the filters thinking it could be that but still wont work when brushes are on. Also cleaned those out too. Any idea what could be causing this. Oh and have on a couple of occasion got a hint of a burning smell. Could the motor be on it way out?

When on full charge my Dyson only goes for 29 seconds on the Max Suction setting and then the battery light shows 2 bars. When I immediately put it back in the battery cradle for just a few seconds then immediately use it again it runs for 29 seconds then stops again even though the blue battery light still shows 2 out of 3 bars

Something must definitely be wrong with it. That’s a terrible battery.

Our V8 is 2 years old and has worked fine. Unfortunately, it fell over on a tiled floor and took a bang where the bin is located and now it won’t turn on..... no power, nothing. Could something inside the motor have dislodged ?

I was told by the representative that it is similar to a car, if not used it goes flat. If I were you I would take out the battery, or best still, contact dyson help themselves and see what they suggest.

why does it take 5 hours to recharge my dyson v8? I can only use it for approximately 15 minutes, then it quits, and EVERY TIME it takes 5 hours to recharge. It is less than a year old but have ALWAYS had this problem. Seems like a waste of ALOT of money to take days to vacuum my house, which has wood floors. I am thinking about returning it and getting my money back. Thought it would be a time saver.
