FitBit Ionic - Product Fail and Worst (Zero) Customer service
Bought Ionic in April 2018 - watch failed after 2 months - contacted Australian support (number difficult to find) - had to go through 3 separate calls over a week for them to establish the watch had failed.
They sent a new Ionic watch. This watch FAILED after 5 days. Contacted support, again an elongated process over 3 calls to also establish the watch didn't work. Requested to send back the 2nd watch - AT MY EXPENSE
Fitbit confirmed receipt of the watch on Dec 12th, 2018 and replied would send me a refund within 21 days. Now 7th Feb (56 days later) and no one can tell me when it will be resolved. The very worst customer service ever experienced.

Stopped working after 6 months
As soon as you shower or use it in water it starts to stop working. Do not buy waste of money. Spend your money on something worth wise. This is the 2nd fit bit I have had and both have not even lasted more than 6 months. Very disappointed about this product.

Awesome watch no faults.
I bought this for my partner and he absolutely loved it. It doesn’t have obvious issues like the other models. I had the versa model at the same time he had this and he had a much better experience using the watch then I did. It’s a bit bulkier on the female wrist but my partner loved it. He is a swimmer and found it tracked his fitness well.

So done!!!!!!
Second Ionic, first was replaced because it didn’t work. Now the second one is junk after 6 months. Even after going through all the forums and doing the troubleshooting it is doing the exact same thing the first one did. I even contacted Fitbit on the first one and they could not figure it out either. So it was replaced. It seems to happen when updates were done.

3rd Ionic in 12mths
Received my Ionic for Christmas last December which I was very excited about. It died after 2mths and was replaced. This one now has died and FitBit are replacing this one. So this will be my 3rd Ionic in less than 12mths. If I’d have known it wouldn’t last a year I definitely wouldn’t have asked one as a present.

Very happy does everything I need
So let me preface my review by stating I love technology and gadgets but I have never bought into the whole idea of having a smartwatch especially for the purpose of it showing notifications etc. I just don't see the point my phone is always there plus I have desktop notifications via pushbullet and I am not a big watch wearer anyway.
I bought the Ionic purely for its fitness tracking abilities so why did I buy a smartwatch style one and not just for example a charge 3?
Well the answer is two fold. Firstly, I wanted a fitness tracker with...Read more
all the features, secondly I felt the charge was not high tech enough for me. It's just a plain monochrome display and I figured if was going to have a wearable I would rather have one that is a bit cooler and has a colour screen and looks nice. I read all the reviews and most of them recommended at this point the Versa was the better watch but I disagree, I wanted to good GPS as using the phone GPS with the Versa or the Charge 3 is not as reliable and the GLONASS GPS in the Ionic is perfect! Secondly, the sleep tracking was most important to me and the Ionic having the O2 sensor like the charge 3 does is another reason I wanted the Ionic over the Versa.Similar opinion? In essence... or maybe in theory, the functions on this watch are excellent. If only ....
If only it worked consistently. For example the auto wake function that is meant to light the face up when you raise you wrist is VERY much a hit and miss affair unless you go out of your way to look stupid and exaggerate the movement. The sleep tracker works MOST nights but often (at least weekly) misses half the night's sleep. The apps are ok but just that.... they are "OK". Not great but perform basic functions. I, unlike many others, had no issues with the music side of things.... worked just fine.
Now to the very worst of it. Support s...Read more
ucks. They don't really ever answer the question and keep telling you to reboot the watch, reset it to factory settings or change the sleep mode to whatever it is not on now. Despite desperate please for more/better action, nothing was forthcoming other than exactly the same rubbish template driven garbage. They have NO idea how to escalate issues beyond the basic "turn it off and on again". The ONLY reason I persist with this watch over the Apple watch is the battery life. I could not abide having to charge my watch daily.... seriously. If the apple watch ever finds a way to get at least a couple of days honest use out of their watches, I'm off to the dark side and to hell with Fit Bit.Similar opinion? Its a chore to keep fixing broken sync.
This is my 3rd fitbit. All 3 had issues, this one is worst
1- Won't update.
2- Sync will get broken every week or so. Takes time to fix again
3- Massively overreports heartrate every now & then. It says my heart is beating at 200 bpm when i am just in resting position on a chair.

Never take it off, huge range of features
I have had every fitbit from the flex and the Ionic is just amazing. Swim strokes sync perfectly, Alarm.... well it's an alarm! All features work in real time. Reminds you if you get stuck being inactive, get up and move. I can even read my sms messages whilst working out, shopping, anywhere without stopping what you are doing. The after sales service on all their products is very helpful. If there is an issue, very unlikely, you find the fix on line or with live chat, too easy. Love it.

Perfect buy
Loved fitbit from the start and I have started tracking my health regularly after the purchase. Ionic is really good considering there are upgrade in lot of features compared to the previous editions and also it has an additional 'pay' feature. The pay feature is excellent and helpful as you can leave your wallet at home.

Best in its class - almost a smartwatch
This is a great fitness tracker which tends to be an almost smartwatch as well.
Pros :
Accurate step count and reliable HR monitoring
Built in GPS which is great as you don't need to carry your phones on run.
Built in storage for mp3 songs.
Great LCD display.
Fitbit pay works great
Comfortable to wear.

When working is excellent but lifespan short
I enjoyed the watches features, it was excellent at tracking steps and activity as well as heart rate.
Unfortunately my watches heart rate monitor stopped working and is essentially just a watch now, battery life has shortened. I would not purchase again as this watch only lasted 6 months.
It struggles to get charging now as it hasn’t been working for 3 months, customer support is typical time wasting overseas outsourced helpline that make you go over most basic steps

Incredibly unreliable
Broke within three months.
Replacement broke almost immediately.
Second replacement broke again within a few months.
Currently wrangling with support, but I suspect my chances of a refund are slim at best.
I essentially paid $449 to rent this device for 12 months (minus around 3 months of downtime). Unsatisfied doesn't cut it, I feel like I've been scammed, that their reliability issues are so commonplace, that the fact they are still taking money for this "product" is an outrage.

Another option for smart sports watches.
More like a product that competes with Apple Watch. Still, I wore it for two and a half, and some of my daily short-distance training, and for nearly one months I had a great change in the way it was used and viewed.Form factor: A design with Fitbit features.Features: Enough and powerful smart features.Sports: Never lose professional sports watch. In GPS mode, you can achieve a 10-hour battery life and enough to complete a marathon. But in terms of sports data, Ionic still can't compare with professional sports watches.

Dont waste your money
Received the ionic as a Christmas present, messaging worked on the ionic with my iphone for a few weeks. For some reason messaging stopped working. I called the help desk who tried to help me to no avail. Final recommendation was to get an android phone. I have since replaced my iPhone with an android phone and messaging still does not work. If you want a smart watch to take calls and messages, this ionic is not for you.

Don’t buy
Broke within 3 months. Lots of to and fro to get a replacement. Replacement broke within 2 months. Month of battling with terrible customer service to get refund, which I gave to wait another 3 weeks for. Don’t buy a fitbit take my advice find another brand. Terrible product. Jim

Great smart watch
A disclaimer: Our family is hooked on the fitbit ecosphere.
We all have various incarnations of fitbit tech and are very comfortable with the devices and the associated app.
This watch replaced the Fitbit Surge, a device that I was very happy with.
The ionic, a fitting update and replacement, does everything the Surge did as well, or better.
It also has additional features such as improved water resistance, a colour screen, music storage and more.
It took a bit of fiddling about to sync with bluetooth headphones, but once achieved, its b...Read more

Never again
Ionic. Stopped counting steps andBPM. Did all the Fitbit team asked to try and sort the problem out, which they new about having had several complaints and posting, they were aware of the problem. Nearly 3 weeks on and still not working, even to the point of being asked to “walk 100 steps” and basically see what happens! Technology! As they have access to your account they can see how active you are. And wait for this one, check your dominant hand to the non-dominant, is correct on your account! Asked for a refund, yep go back to the shop you got it from! Thanks Fitbit. I would not recommend
At all.

Works perfectly for my needs
For years I had the Surge from Fitbit. It was ok, but towards the end, it was getting tired. Since buying the Ionic approx 5 months ago, this watch does everything plus more and with more detail. More detail for sleep analysis, more details with GPS etc. If you like data, this is a great watch.

Questions & Answers
Marioasked
This isnt a question, but I would like to offer a solution to those who are having trouble with syncing issues.
I was starting to recently get issues syncing, eg. "looking for device" or "device not found" and could not get sleep data for the last 2 nights.
On the phone, go to: Settings - Apps - Fitbit - Storage - Clear cache
then all of a sudden the sleep data appeared from the last 2 nights when I got back into the Fitbit App.
As a side note, I am disappointed that the phone is not smart enough to turn off the auto-on feature while sleeping. So I turned it off and never use the feature anymore. The benefit is that it now saves a significant amount of battery as it no-longer unnecessarily or accidentally turns on with each wrist movement.
