Mondeo MC (2010-2014)

Would anyone recommend buying an ex-fleet 2011-12 Ford Mondeo TDCi wagon? They seem to be well priced. Would having 130,000 km's or more be a problem??

Bought one with 160k on the clock but in immaculate condition. Mechanical check showed everything was in very good condition. Added 15k over the last year and expect it to keep running, km's not an issue.

Looking at buying a wagon 2010-2014 and wondering if the rear seats fold flat?

Yeah pretty sure they do

TheTimsta

Yes, they do, although not completely flat because of the seat padding but near enough. (We have a 2011 TDCI wagon).

Rod

You can fold you seat forward up against the front seat before dropping the back seat. This will make it go flat

What about replacement of spare parts, is it cheaper than Mitsubishi galant? I'm nerfed about vehicle, I want to change my galant 2001 with Mondeo 2009 so it would be good. Economically?? (Considering spare parts).

Yes, better parts availability and reasonable (but not dirt cheap) prices from what I've seen.

Does it has a timing belt or chain?

The XR5 has the Volvo 2.5 5cyl turbo engine. A timing belt is fitted with a changeover scheduled at 10yrs or 180000km, whatever comes first. I have questioned the length of time for the belt changeover however all documentation shows the same thing. Hope this helps

Simon
Simon

Yeah this is another reason why I bought it. It does have a belt but it requires replacement at 200 000kms or 10 years.
That's for the 2.0l turbo diesel

It depends on how much someone is willing to spend / my advice is to spend 200 dollars plus on each tyre on some Yokohama, dunlop, Bridgestone or Goodyear tyres though if you can afford 600 bucks or so on tyres I would suggest fitting, alignment and balancing of 5 michelen or pirelli tyres

Sorry, Adam. Computer says no - in the words of Little Britain, so its telling you that you have a fault with an accessory and you'll have to take the Mondo to a Ford dealer to find and fix the problem. Be prepared to pay through the nose Good luck.

Tim
Tim

Adam, as Scott said, unless you can find some answers online I would be taking it to either a reputable auto electrician or Ford. If you have a spare car key, try it instead as the keys can malfunction causing the car to be inoperative. Check out this little article on Talkford http://www.talkford.com/community/topic/214717-how-does-the-keyless-start-system-work/

It sounds like you might have a damaged central processing unit and probably need to see an trustworthy honest and reliable auto electrician

Do you have a Sun Roof? - if so the drains are most likely blocked - there are one on each side, Otherwise it maybe the door seals

Its not a Mondeo, and therefore not made in Europe. As I mentioned in my review of the Mondeo, I wouldn't spit on a Ford made in Oz or Asia. My experience of Fords made outside Belgium is that they suffer from poor quality control, and, as a consequence, leak like a babies nappy, are mechanically substandard and only fit for the tip. My advice is to offload it as soon as possible and buy a real car, like a Merc. Second hand they are cheap and you'll most likely get 600,000 trouble free KMs - AND IT WON'T LEAK!

brian
brian

It's probably coming from the door possibly / anyway its better to try to get it fixed at the ford dealer

We are thinking about buying a 2014 ford mondeo diesel tdci and would like to know the pros an cons of what we may expect for buying one of these?

A very fuel efficient, quiet, comfortable car! Plenty of power for cruising and overtaking with a smooth transmission. Good lighting including fog lights. The auto feature on these and the wipers is great. Service costs around $250 inc oil. Up to $430 or so for a big service around 90,000ks inc oil & filters. Very happy with ours still and it has done $120,000ks. Tyres can make a big difference on this car and the originals made it track badly. I have nexen tyres on now which are cheap and very good.
Hope this helps

It may need a software update? Check with your Dealer, If this is not helpful there is a Australian Ford Forum (http://www.fordforums.com.au/archive/index.php/f-225.html) site on the Net if you join it go to the sub forum small and medium cars and then Mondeo and ask the question there.

AS above I would check for software update if available. I had a similar problem with a Honda Jazz we had previously and they changed the oil and it was fine after that

Hi Paul,

The Ford Mondeo wagon/hatchback diesel is the preferred choice for sales reps all over Great Britain. Renowned for their reliability and comfort etc. Check out the talkford.com website. This is a UK based Ford forum. You will get all sorts of information from that re your question. Or any UK based Ford information centres. They have been over there for years so you will get really good info. Also try out carbuyer on youtube for the Mondeo reviews.
It bought my mondeo wagon as a result of the good write ups etc from the UK websites as limited info over here. Unfortunately at the time of purchase, I couldn't source a 2nd hand diesel engine and still regret that decision!
Hope all works out for you.

Hi Andy go for it mate, we have had our MA TDCI since 2008 and have done 110,000klm it is going great. (see my reviews here) Great economical car.

Paul I am on my 3rd Mondeo TDCi and all I can say is you will not be disappointed constantly get over 1100 km out of tank on open road and 900 around town and it performs as well as most falcons I had had previously and the suspension is just perfect just right for most situations, the long list of standard features leaves most others well behind so Paul go for it

brian

Yeah its best to take it to a ford Australia workshop if the car is still under warranty and if the guarantee ran out you could also take the car to a trustworthy honest and reliable mechanical shop / the problem could even be with the electric and that case you might need a auto electrician though the way you have described it there is more likely something wrong with the gearbox / my suggestion is to leave the car off the road, definitely do not try to drive it until you have the problem professionally fixed

Are parts and services expensive compared to similar vehicles?

2 answers
Patty
Patty

I haven't service mine yet but it also depends if you go to the ford dealer or not. The ford dealer will charge at least $300 each service and other non ford service garages will be about half that from experience on other Ford vehicles. I don't believe they cost any more than any other vehicle generally.

Parts no, service yes - find a good diesel mechanic
