Are there any known faults in the 2010 mondeo

2 answers

Hi Elizabeth,
The only concern I would have is the auto transmission which I have read in other reviews and can be a very expensive one. All cars have the possibility of faults on an individual basis. I drove 2 MC models over 6 years with a total of approx 200,000 kms with absolutely no problems.
If you can, buy the latest model as possible with low kms and good service history. Good luck

Yes I can confirm, sadly the Mondeo's both petrol and diesel between 2010 and 2014, are renowned for having a poorly designed transmission which is extremly expensive to fix or replace. Real shame as they are damn good value cars, great family car. Just beware of the transmission......

Hi my Mondeo 2011 tdci 230k's recently started to have what seemed like a slight misfire when just idling around a carpark then stalled on me. Now won't even crank has engine malfunction light on ford says it's pcm and only option is to buy a new one at $2600. Are the any other options. Don't know what to do might to wreck the car only paid $4000 for it plus it's due for cam belt

1 answer

Adrian,
Try taking to independent mechanic for 2nd opinion who may be able to get part as a reconditioned unit . Otherwise not worth spending that much on a car with high kms and nearly 10 years old. Cut your losses and spend money on an updated car,

Our Mondeo does not have this that i am aware of unless it has been turned off before we bought it by the original owner.. what does your do exactly please?

Nev, I don’t think you can do it permanently because of safety issues. Not sure why it is annoying as it only goes off when door is open and engine running which is a good feature to remind you to remove keys if out of your car.
The chime will stop if your door remains open. Hope this helps, cheers

Hello Mondeo people, we are looking at getting a secondhand 2014 Mondeo that is Diesel Turbo, 135,000 on the clock. Took for a test drive today and feels GREAT. Wondering what the difference is between Diesel Turbo and just plain Diesel? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance..

Ours is the turbo deisel .. I forgot to put that in the review sorry! Its absolutely amazing! Make sure that you get one with a full service history that has always been done on time too. The fuel economy is awesome! From memory when we researched the normal deisel simply has less power pickup .. should still have the same fuel economy within reason except up hills as there is less poke if that makes sense? Make sure the heat warmer buttons work cos they are common to fail.. and are $450 to replace just for the part at ford!

Hi Alek K, All modern diesel engines in cars these days are all turbo charged including Mondeo. There are none that come only diesel as they would simply be too slow in driving dynamics. Different story with petrol engines as fhey have many choices depending on what power output you want. Hope this helps, I can only recommend diesel as I have not driven a petrol Mondeo.

HI
I have a Mondeo 2009 MB titanium petrol,

Just wondering if the mondeo has a timing chain that needs to get changed. I've heard conflicting reports and one mechanic just told me my timing chain needs replacing? The car has done 130,000 ks and runs beautifully, sounds a bit like a diesel but has always sounded this way in 7 years of owning it.

I’m no mechanic so I cannot answer your question. I suggest you take it to Ford if you have conflicting comments and do what they say, good luck, cheers

Has your mechanic checked for excessive back lash ? That’s the amount of place associated with the crankshaft and camshaft. When chain and guides are worn there’s generally a clacky sound at say 1800rpm .
I personally wouldn’t be relapacing a chain at those low kms. Time doesn’t effect a chains health.

Hi i am having problems with 2009 Mondeo Titinium diesel 2.0ltr. (surprise surprise) 205,000 km
When i am accelerating the car shudders slightly (as if it has a flat spot, seems only when the car is changing gears) and when you accelerate harder the shudder is more intense.when this happens i loose my ACC and also the air con, the engine light comes on and sometimes the traction control and ABS light and i also loose my speedo apart from my tacho which still works, sometimes the transmission will not change gears even if i put it in sports mode, where i normally have to stop and switch the engine off which is also a problem, i have to press the start button several times before it switches off. Any ideas?

Possible transmission problems, take it to a good mechanic you might know or Ford.

It's not as if we haven't tried. Ford had it for 6 weeks and $1700 later, they said they'd fixed it - yeh right, didn't even get it to the highway before it started playing up again. Then they reckon a new ABS should fix it at $1200, but no guarantee. They were just clutching at straws. (Apparently all they did when questioned was clear the codes - we could have done that) We've got it booked in with an independent mechanic to give the transmission a service/checkover but in this model there is no filter to change. Will see what happens.

I would reckon to have a look at your timing belt.

Hello,

Really not sure what to do. My 2011 Ford mondeo auto diesel needs a new transmission. Apparently they are $9,500 delivered to Donald, then $1,500 to put it in. The car was only worth $10k when it was working. It's done 146k kms. We love the car... other then it doesnt go!

Do we:

Put 2nd hand one in. $5,000 installed it's done 64k km

Pay the $11k to get a new one installed?

Sell it as is and loose heaps of money?

Will it just happen again if we put a another one in?

Thanks so much for your time. We will get it serviced if we do put it in by Ford every time.

Unfortunately you have a lemon when it comes to this models transmission.
Trade it in and let the dealer worry about it .

Personally I would go the second hand one for the $5000 and see how it goes if you think its not the same as before you put it in sell it and make some money back

I am looking to purchase my first Ford, this being a second hand 2015 Mondeo with 30k on it. I have down graded from owning a 2014 HSV Grange, after servicing and maintaining my last beast I am wanting a car that's relatively cheap to run and maintain as my HSV was just so expensive. What are the mondeos like price wise to service? for example our HSV brakes were $2500 and had to be done every 30k and tyres were $500 each, anytime we left the dealers for a service it was always in the thousands. Please help, is the mondeo cheap to maintain or do I go for a hyundai or something??

2 answers

Hi Kate, service costs can vary depending on kms on the car but I can say that they are competitive with other similar size cars. My fords have all been diesel of which I highly recommend if you want reasonably low running costs(I averaged 1000 km per tank). You must also consider what car you like driving most as opposed to just economy. ( smart move getting rid of HSV, those costs were ridiculous ).
Drive the Ford, it handles well with plenty of sensible grunt when you need it.
Good luck, Bobby Boardshorts

My Mondeo duratorq turbo diesel fluctuates wildly about 300 to 400rpm whilst touring. Done about 90,000km. First 40,000 never out of Brisbane and short daily trips before I bought it. Has had present problem for sometime. Recent long journey made no difference. I use only BP or Caltex diesel fuel.

Hi Geoff, Have you changed the diesel fuel filter? A partially blocked or collapsed filter can cause the problem. That's as far as my knowledge of diesel injection systems go. If you change the filter yourself, you'll need to bleed the air out of the system.

Wayne
Wayne

Sounds like a fuel line pressure issue.
Mandatory I would replace the fuel filter looking for silt / rubbish potentially hampering fuel delivery. If unsuccessful then scan ECU for codes. Otherwise it’s off to the dealer.

Hi Fiona, It has a belt and a timing chain! Confused me too. The chain goes between the two camshafts and a belt drives the lot. The belt requires replacing at 150,000 kms.
Make sure the gearbox has been serviced correctly. The fluid needs changing every 60,000 kms. Only problem I've had with mine is a filter in the power steering reservoir blocked, apparently common, cleaned for $50. Last thing, make sure it has quality tyres. Mine chews through cheap tyres, Michelin Primacys seem to be holding up well.

Hello Folks,
Thanks for all your feedback. I am quite keen on buying a used Ford Mondeo Wagon. I found a diesel one thats done 150k in 4 yrs which seemed pretty high to me. So still contemplating whether to go ahead or not. Anybody got any inputs for me?

2 answers

150k in 4yrs is nothing for a diesel if it's been regularly serviced. I bought the diesel wagon 2014 model about a year ago a 6 speed with 123k on the clock and am wrapt in it. the economy is fantastic went from Perth down to Bremer Bay in just over 1/2 a tank. If you maintain a diesel it will go forever. I'm retired but still hang on to my long wheel base VW van TDI 2.4 diesel 2002 model with 500k on the clock and it still doesn't barely use any oil between services. Purchased mine from a reputable dealer for $9,990.0 as the resale value is not good on this model car. Heh! but as a european car it was voted car of the year in 2014. built for the autobarns and believe me this thing flies. Try to get a white wagon, yes the colour is boring but practical for a hot country an it doesn't fade with age.

Chubbi,
David L is correct, sounds like an ex fleet car with those km’s but that means it should have been regularly serviced as well. Take the car for a drive, get it independently checked and should also be a good price with high km’s. This car is magic and so underrated, good luck . ps. get white if you can, easy to keep cool & clean,

Who is this Mechanic ? Is he ‘just a mechanic ‘ ?
The MD Mondeo which I’ve had for two years has not had any issues and we have done nearly 50,000 kms .
If you read the other reviews for the MD model you will see no mechanical issues.
Having said that the MC Model had a major problem with the transmission ( maybe you mechanic is getting his wires crossed with the two models )

Hi Gibbo, the MC mondeo did have issues with auto transmission ( I had the MC for 6 yrs no probs, I assume you are looking at MD?
Don’t believe everything people say, I’m going by my experience, I’ve also had no probs with current model, not sure on service costs as mine are fleet cars but it would be comparable to other similar cars.
Suggest you have a look at and test other similar cars mazda 6, golf, etc for a comparison.
Highly recommend the Mondeo and Volkswagon.
Also recommend diesel over petrol.
Happy hunting

Sounds like there’s something wrong.
Get the ECU scanned to see if there is any Codes, or previous codes . You can also try changing the air filter and checking your tyre pressures.

Hi beach pad, I have always driven diesels getting approx 1000 km to tank. A petrol motor should be approx 650 to 800 km per tank. Take car to ford to check. It’s probably a computer problem.
Cheers hope this helps

Nice car to drive, the diesel version is efficient. However super unreliable, I’ve driven one to 220,000km plus and still have it without choice as a company vehicle for 8 yrs. The radio blanks out intermittingly and you can’t retrieve the CD when it does! They tell you it’s firmware, then you video tape it so they replace the unit but it still happens. The transmission intermittingly “bangs” due to the double clutch locking on, but they tell you that’s normal! Watch out for the rough idle when you pull up at the lights and run at 2.8lt/hr! They can’t fault that either! So you’ll have to video tape it and then they tell you to drive to a service centre when it happens, impossible due to its intermitting nature so it never gets fixed! The steel wheels are soft metal so don’t bump into the curb, eitherwise you’ll need to replace it that cost well over $300. The injectors seal starts leaking at 170,000km or earlier, and you get this black stain that you cannot get off! Once it leaks oil you’ll guarantee they only replaced the one that leaks and not all 4, so they sequential leak guarantee one every month till they replace the lot! I don’t park it in my driveway, I’ve lost confidence and it gets left in the street the black stain it leaves behind and you can’t get off is a reminder everytime I see them! The air condition is useless during summer, possibly the worst, no is the worst for all the vehicles I’ve had! Never cold enough! Watch out for the message “ limited transmission Function”. They can’t record any fault codes or they say none is logged! So take pictures of these messages to prove to them that it happens. Every service or booking of faults is now well over $2k. The last service was just under $4k! The scroll down button intermittingly fail to work so you cant scroll down in the menus to select or disengage features as you need to scroll down once in the menu! BTW mine is service on schedule, after every service the message “replace engine oil “ comes up, so they forget to reset the counter after the service! You can’t do that the6 have to do it. I also hate when the wiper fluid is empty, the message takes over the entire display until you deal with it!
