For those who have had breakages, I have not but a friend of mine has had two of her knives break, she too was given them as a gift and had no receipt however she took them to king of knives [in australia] and paid a couple of dollars postage and they returned the knives for her with unquestioned replacement within two weeks or so. I hope I dont have the problem, however I did just find that my husband had wrapped up some vegetable scraps for the bin and apparently our paring knife went with them..... not happy about that but I will certainly...Read more
replace it. Like everyone else I love the weight and stability of the knives, they are a pleasure to use every day. Just a hint for those experiencing slight rust like marks on your knives, a wipe over with a small amount of olive oil after cleaning should prevent this, much like seasoning a wok or pan. Just a very small amount of oil and similar to polishing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I was recommended by my wife about these knives way before "Master Chef" is shown in Australia and was surprised Master Chef uses Global knives as well. The set I have is very similiar to this set of 6 knives and instead of a wooden block is a plastic version with metal plating which I was waiting for product review to add but it is still not shown. The grip of the knife is very comfortable and it really feels professional one piece knife. Needless to say the performance is really good as its sharpness is there. Price may be out of reach for lo...Read more
wer income as they cost over $600.00 easily and if you are lucky there are a few online shops that sell about half the price. Do a research on prices before buying as you can save a cool $300.00 easily when they are on sale. Bought mine at about $265.00 and have no regrets, they are the best knives I own. quality, sharp, balanced and light weight, sharp priceSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have been using global knives for over 12 years now. My own set I brought 11 years ago and it's sad to hear that other people have had some knives snap in half on them, this has never happended to me. I would like to see them sell the knife blocks seperately as my block is slightly dated other than that highly recommended from my point of view.
Balance, ease of use and of course style!
Hand washing, who enjoys that?

Bad
Very disappointed by breakage. Gift so cannot provide receipt for replacement. Japanese website not helpful for international customers. Looking for a new knife set now and will not be considering global again based on experience.
nicely weighted, easy to clean (although hand washing is always a drag, but we used them so often we couldn't wait for the dishwasher anyway), schmick look.
as with other reviews rust staining and the biggest knife broke in two (set is 7 years old). It looks like the serrated knife is about to break now too.

I won't buy another of these as I broke the knife yesterday! It snapped in 2 pieces, at the thinner end where the handle starts, and the blade almost stabbed me in the foot when it went flipped. I was cutting meat off a lamb bone and the blade went through soft knuckle and snapped. I will send the parts back to Global for an explanation.
I have a 20cm cooks knife by Global, which I have used many times. Has been a good knife to have in my kitchen set (I have other brands as well).
Not heavy enough.

I am a lover of cooking and i love these knives, since i first saw them they appealed to me. I am a Pastry Cook by Trade and i know quality. They are hand made in Japan with very good steel. You can purchase with the bamboo block or stainless steal holder. I paid well under $300 new for mine on sale at Grace Brothers and it was the display model on the shelf with a further 10% off. Very happy with the product.
Very sharp, well balance, nice weight.
The home dish washer leaves rust stains on it, better to hand wash.

I was after a sharp knife for my kitchen at home and went on a hunt to find a good one. After much research and shopping I decided on Global knifes. Whilst they are a little expensive (I payed $350.00 for a set)its money well spent, after all you get what you pay for. I will recommend however that you get a knife sharpener to keep the edge of your knife razor sharp. Also to avoid dulling your knife quickly only use wood cutting boards as other material such as Marble or Glass will dull your knife edge quickly.

I would have given it the big thumbs up as I have had a couple of years use from it, however snapping in half, turns it to a zero score.
I have loved my knife, aside from the rust stains, until without warning, one day it snapped in half at the handle- I'm devastated.
It broke in half

I have just purchased this knife set, and all of the blades seem slightly bent or twisted. Is this just part of being hand made or should I get a replacement set?
1 answer
My set isn't perfectly straight. For example, if you are holding the knife vertically (and you are looking at the knife from behind with the blade facing away from you) there is a slight curving to the left but it's not really discernible. If you are concerned, perhaps check out some global knives in person first (and compare it with yours) and then seek a replacement if you are still worried. Good luck.

I have a set of global knives and are starting to notice rust spot on them . What eould suggests remady?

I have been told not to put them in the Dishwasher, as this may cause rust.
I think you are best to contact direct the retailer from whom you purchased them.
Mine are perfect still.
I always wash and dry my knives straight away. They are as good as gold. I love them
