Best Knives Ever
These knives will cut anything very easily, even the hardest coconuts! They look fantastic on the counter at home and have stayed very sharp for 6 years now. Would recommend them highly for the every day housewife/husband to a Restaurant chef. Absolutely very strong and worth every cent we spent on them!
Very good for all fruits, vegies.

Loving my new knives
Just received my new 7 piece Global knife block and am loving it. Peeling potatoes was a breeze with the paring knife and cutting pumpkin was great. Knives look great in their trendy knife block. Well worth the money and would highly recommend them. I wash and dry the knives as soon as I have used them because I want them to last a long time. Very Happy

Global knives
Ours are less than 2 weeks old. They immediately developed rust spots straight away even on the cutting edge - and we have only hand washed them with mild detergent. You have to wash and thoroughly dry them immediately after use. Even then it's hard to keep them rust free. They are light weight.

don't stay sharp for long and rust stains
Took the Ikasu 7 piece set back to Kitchen and Hospital supplies on Erindale Road where we bought them from when rust stains started appearing on some of the knives. They told us to take them to Global office in Mumford Pl in Balcatta but we got no service or satisfaction.
Global had the knife set "assessed" but wouldn't disclose their findings to us and just said we had to deal with the seller. In the end we demanded our money back.
the style of the knife set
the knives eventually stain with rust (even though Global tell you they won't" and they blunt very easily.

Love this Knife Block Set
I have had this knife block for around 4 years now and find these knives very good. They are a lighter weight knife which may not be to everyone's taste but I love the weight and feel of the knife in my hand. Always wash the knife as soon as you finish using it and they will stay looking shiny and in good condition for a long time to come. I use the Global sharpener which is great and have taken them to a knife shop once for professional sharpening but found this was not vastly different to the results achieved at home so decided it was not w...Read more
orth the extra cost. I don't find these knives fragile, which has been mentioned in other reviews, still very happy with them and glad I didn't choose the Mundial set I walked into the shop to purchase. Once I held these knives they were the only ones I wanted. The weight and feel of the knives when holding them and the sharpness Nothing I can think ofSimilar opinion? Expensive Disappointment
Heard raves about these knives and bought them with the approved wet stone sharpening device specifically made for them. Both the knives and the sharpener were expensive.
Look and feel: 8/10
In Use: 4/10
Knives are made for a specific purpose, that is to cut. looking good and to hold, on its own is not good enough when they don't cut well.
I was totally disappointed with their performance, I have never been able to get a really sharp edge and I would consider them to generally be blunt even after sharpening.
My wife uses them but I no...Read more

Stylish yet frail
I really loved these knives in the beginning. They are beautiful to look at and handle very well. When the blades started to dull I bought their brand specific sharpener and off I went again. Sadly my Hubby is a bit rough with them and has managed to chip 2 of the knives which can not be removed thus rendering them useless. The rest of the set are still in great condition but these knives definitely need to be treated with kid gloves.
Look fabulous, stay sharp for quite some time
Fragile blades that chip easily

Excellent wouldn't use any other knives
I love cooking and found these knives some of the best. Mine stay sharp and are comfortable in the hand. Be careful as I've nearly cut my finger off (my fault for not concentrating). Bought Global as recommended by my chef friends. I always however wash and dry them immediately after use however have not experienced any chipping etc and my family is pretty rough with them I.e. dropping in the sink, putting dishes on top of them etc.
Love the look, the feel and the quality

OK
We will not be rushing out to add more to our global knives stock. Expected better quality for the price we paid.
We liked the weight and ease of cutting.
Very disappointed that after outlaying a considerable sum for a paring knife and a cook's knife, we have to sharpen them after each use. Relieved we bought the ceramic sharpener along with the knives. The highlight was the ceramic sharpener which sharpened knives with such ease, we should just have bought this and sharpened all our existing knives!

High Maintenance!
Think twice about buying these knives, they are high maintenance. The blade edge chips easily, I have never dropped them and rarely do they make contact with other utensils, and I'm very careful with my stuff. They stain/rust very easily if you don't wash and dry them immediately after use. I paid top dollar expecting high quality and I feel extremely disappointed.
Visually appealing, nice grip and well weighted.
Stains can be difficult to remove. Knife edge chips very easily. Not worth the money in my opinion.

Impressive looking and useful
This is my first quality knife set. I still keep my cheapo set to abuse. But when I want to make nice neat clean cuts, I pull this set out. It is amazing how easy these knives cut through stuff. I was also amazed the other day in seeing Rick Stein using global knives on TV!
Impressive style and form, sharp edge

Not as good as we expected
They rust too easily even though we hand wash. You must dry them straight away which isn't always possible especially in our early morning rush. Some of my blades have even been eaten away only in the first few weeks of use. Hence why you must wash and dry them straight away. Need regular sharpening which is disappointing. I did not get proper instructions from David jones. Apparently they should have been sharpened before use.
Light and good when sharp.
Rusting, erosion, sharpness doesn't last long, expensive for quality.

Distinctive, well made, quality knife that cuts well and keeps a good edge.
My Ikasu Set is a very practical combination of knives, with quite a few of the smaller sizes most home kitchens prefer. Buying in a set such as this, makes the price quite reasonable for the quality offered. It is also very easy to add additional knives later on. They look pretty good to.
In my fours years of use, I broke one at the handle when it dropped onto a tiled floor. My fault, I have also chipped and broken other brands as well.
My experience is that Global knives tend to have a good quality thinish blade which is tempered a bit...Read more
harder than most. Mine came very sharp and keep an edge quite well if looked after. Although I only cut on a cutting board, wash them by hand and never let them become dull. I consider a sharpener such as the Global (or similar) a definite must have for these (or any other Japanese knife), which need to be kept very sharp to get the best out of them. It is unrealistic and almost ignorant to expect any knife to stay sharp without regular sharpening or steeling. I have met several chefs who use Global's and they are generally positive about them. The metal handle means they will still be attractive and functioning well for decades to come.2 comments

I love these knives, they're still my favourite (and most used) wedding present, despite the fact that I ended up having to replace the 20cm cooks knife off my own back because Global won't replace for "misuse" despite guaranteeing the products! If there are two people here complaining about the issue there's likely to be more - I can only hope that they've taken the fault on board for subsequent knives and that my new one doesn't meet the same fate. Just don't buy them at retail prices, get them from one of the bulk homewares retailers inste...Read more
ad. Although you only really need ONE good knife, this set sure is handy! The stability in the knives when I'm using them is excellent and they feel well balanced in my hand. And I love the fact that they stay sharp, sharper than any other premium knives we've used (and we cook A LOT). I bought one for my Dad for Fathers Day this year and now he's a convert too! To the Guest reviewer below - I had the EXACT same problem, my set was a wedding present, my 20cm knife fell off my board and thankfully missed my feet but snapped at the handle too! I went to the Global site and they claimed that dropping the knife was a "misuse". >:(Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good
Good, middle of the road set of knives. Definitely better knives out there for more money but these are sufficient for the price you pay (although they aren't super cheap). I probably wouldn't buy again though.
Great looking knife, good selection of knife sizes/shapes, easy to use, well weighted and an all round good set of knives. Can get them reasonably priced now.
Need to buy a ceramic sharpener ('steel') if you want to keep them in perfect condition. Over time they do need sharpening regularly.
Although I've had not breakages, they do seem a little thin and like they could break at anytime

Fantastic kitchen tool. I will be buying a set for my adult children.
They are a great investment.
I needed to have my carving knife replaced, and it was, with no problems at all.
I love these knives.
Easy to sharpen.
Very sharp. They cut through everything effortlessly.
Lightweight. They fit in my hand nicely.
Easy to clean.
I haven't found anything I don't like about them. Only that I don't have enough of them yet!

Great Knives that have lasted and continually perform!
I have used these knives for around 7-8 years now (first using my parents', now my own that I purchased 6 months ago) so I can honestly say from experience that they stand the test of time. They are still easily sharpened with the water sharpener that I bought with them for around $30 and will cut through anything I throw at them. I sharpen them once a week and they slice through tomatoes as well as they did when they were new. I find them comfortable to hold and I love the look of them in my kitchen. I have recommended these to all of my frien...Read more
ds and both of my sisters have bought them on my recommendation and they are happy with them also. They may rust if you put them in the dishwasher as they did when I tried, but now I just give them a quick handwash after using them so I don't have this problem. The rust was easily washed off anyway so no dramas. Reliable, comfortable, sharp, visually appealing, strong. They may rust in dishwasher.1 comment

I really like he ease of using this knife block set. There is a knife for every need i have in the kitchen. It was recommended to us to dry them straight away and put them back in the knife block to help prevent rusting but this isn't always practical to do so this has resulted in almost all of our knives getting rust spots (they have never gone in a dishwasher). They do need sharpening often which is also a bit of a pain. But i can deal with these problems because they do what they are designed to do very well!
Sharp, funky design, comfortable to use
Expensive if not bought on sale, go rusty easily, need to be sharpened often

I have just purchased this knife set, and all of the blades seem slightly bent or twisted. Is this just part of being hand made or should I get a replacement set?
1 answer
My set isn't perfectly straight. For example, if you are holding the knife vertically (and you are looking at the knife from behind with the blade facing away from you) there is a slight curving to the left but it's not really discernible. If you are concerned, perhaps check out some global knives in person first (and compare it with yours) and then seek a replacement if you are still worried. Good luck.

I have been told not to put them in the Dishwasher, as this may cause rust.
I think you are best to contact direct the retailer from whom you purchased them.

These knives are super fantastic. They cut with such ease and very precisely. They make cutting up, even the most difficult foods, a pleasure. Would not buy any other brand.
