Bush Challenger 1. Have made some mods. Removed gas cylinder from A frame and replaced with lockable box housing 2kva gender on one side and gas cylinder on other, extended rear bar to house 2 Gerry cans and have included 2 pole holders, one for camp room and bed poles and one on rear for hose, cut into 1.8 metre lengths which can be joined with connectors. Feel this is better than dealing with hose winders and dirty hoses in boot. Speaking of which the size of the boot is not as large as others we have had, but th...Read more

Ranges. Apart from stone damage to plastic elbow on water tank and some minor issues to screws holding fridge facia, no major damage to van, internally or externally. Road conditions varied from 'A' through to 'D' with worse section through Merty Merty Station. Can towed well and did all that was expected of it. Very happy with choice of RV. Definitely well suited to off road conditions.Just spent 4 weeks at Adelaide Shores Big 4. Endured gale force winds and heavy rain. Thought we were going to be walking away from total carnage, but the van canvass sustained no damage and no leaks,... Read more
even though the walls and the winding system holding up the roof got an absolute thrashing. Only issue was the Proster camp room that was attached to the Proster awning. As our site was a concrete slab we were unable to peg down the walls into the ground. The wind got underneath and lifted the room, causing one of the support poles to snap. Insurance replaced awning. Camp room walls not damaged. Lesson learned. Don't use camp room if you can't peg it down. All in all the van has been a success and has fulfilled our expectations. That said we are about to put it up for sale soon as we have completed the outback trips for which we have bought it. Our next van will be a full van, being more suitable for long trips requiring constant Overnight stops. This new van will be our 11th. In 40 years of travelling we have had three camper trailers. The Golf Bush Challenger has been without doubt the best value for money and has been a joy. We are happy to recommend this unit to any prospective buyer, even though we have learnt that there is no such thing as an 'Off Road' van, just as there is no such thing as After Sales Service. Happy Travelling.

Golf Bush Challenger an absolute beauty!
Absolutely love it! No problems at all. Made a few extra creature comfort improvements but it is a ripper. Better value than others out there! Most service depts for any thing are a bit ho hum...so was not surprised when Golf was the same. Anyway other than that an awesome camper!
Easy set up and well built
Service a bit slack

Golf Bush Challenger 3
Purchased new in 2011. Good value with awning walls enabling it to be a full annexe. Couple of teething problems, the bed stops needed replacement, quite simple, the drawer and door catches kept on catching, not so simple but replaced.
Other than that we have had a great time in the Bush Challenger, takes 15-20 minutes to set up and same time to pull down. Have travelled around 10,000kms on a couple of trips. No real off road stuff but over 1,000kms on the dirt didn't loosen anything and there was very little dust inside.

Support from golf
The electric winch system is not up to scratch had to get an auto electrician to rewire it, as it would not lift properly even though it was under warranty, as for dealing with golf it leads more to be desired, would not offer any help at all, refused to answer any e mails would not have anything to do with them again, if it was not for the dealership, who helped as much as possible we would have has a camper that was next to useless and golf at factory in melbourne could not have cared less, would not touch one again.
good to tow
bad warranty service from golf at factory in Melbourne

I have a bush challenger with an electric motor to raise the roof. It works ok for most of the raise then stops (probably 3/4's of the way up). I have spare fuses to replace though the fuse is hot to touch to remove. Once fuse is changed it may only go up a couple of centimetres then stop. I continue to change the fuses until it reaches full height. Any suggestions as to a possible problem or fix. Thanks Greg

Greg There is a wooden panel under the lounge seat at the very front. Remove four screws and you can get at the cable system. I grease all of the moving bits with lithium grease. Probably once a year. Also wgen we get hlme from a trip and put the roof up tp clran it out i spray a small amount of lanox on the roof post sliding joint.
Try these two things.
Sorry mate, I got rid of my challenger to much problems. Before selling it I used the button inside the storage compartment to raise an lower the roof. Also check the wiring contact cable where the wires join the electric box inside the storage compartment they do become loose.

Our bush challenger 4 has a mains connection but as we bought it second hand I cannot say if it was standard or an option.

good. Happy with mods and enjoying the freedom that an off roader can provide. Set up time is about 30 mins, but I may be slower than most due to being overprotective of canvass. We seem to turn a few heads whenever we pull up, which does wonders to the ego. We look forward to seeing another Bush Challenger on the road soon. Perhaps we'll start a "Golf Club"!
