Terrible service, won't release money which is frozen on my account just say it'll take an extra 2 days. Then ask 2 days later and oh no 2 more days

Ripped off

Ripped me off with offering bigger car because they were short of medium cars. Then charged me for the bigger car at the end, after dropping off vehicle. Then charged me for petrol, even though I just refilled. Won't reply to emails and I have resorted to emailing ACCC. Awful company.

Watch the fine print their staff skim over!

Been renting consumer cars for about 35 years. Never have a dealt with with minimum kms per day on a consumer vehicle with an excess rate per km. Watch what you sign and check their fine print otherwise you will return the car with quite an additional bill. Question them on items? “You signed the contract”. Waste of time escalating an issue as they stand behind the fine print. As I said… 35 years renting and also commercial vehicles where I expect excess km charges. No offer to even meet half way. They don’t care… I pulled 34 weekends of rentals and two cars a weekend for staff. So go to AVIS! I’m glad I did. You’d think they’d “try harder” after being belted with reduced demand during COVID.

Overcharged and won’t return

I hired a removal truck. Cost me 240 dollars for 25 hours.

They deducted 240 from my account plus another 657 dollars as a deposit, which was only meant to be 500.

8 days later they haven’t returned the 657 dollars and refuse to provide any advice as to why they took it it if they’ll give it back. Completely shonky.

Extra charge and no responses

I've always been happy with Hertz service on the ground: staff are courteous and professional, cars are fairly new and well maintained.

Charging mistakes happen and it wouldn't be a big deal, except it seems impossible to communicate with Customer Care.

Case opened on Jan 21st, no answers at all after 2 weeks.

Update: response received today Feb 9th, promising a refund.

Hertz US double charged for same service

Booked for California trip & paid in full via rentalcars.com which showed Hertz offering to be most attractive. Received voucher to show at counter. Showed voucher when picking up. Charged in full again after returning vehicle. Hertz unresponsive 1st time, said speak to rentalcars.com 2nd time. No issues w the facts, such as identical pick up and drop off time & locations. It's their charge I am contesting - but refusing to refund /. action.

Wrong Calculation of Charges

Be cautious. Check carefully the amount charged for each item listed on the rental agreement. Don't assume the calculation of charges, which is done by computer, should be correct. Something wrong with their computer system. Their way of calculating credit card surcharge and GST is wrong and customers might be overcharged. They didn't respond to my email enquiries regarding this issue.

Quoted $109 per day for 2 days. Was charged $220 per day. Charged for non existent damage. No one would take calls. Website complaint firm not working. Horrendous customer service. Still don't have tax invoice

Helpful Staff at Hertz Cooma (Downtown)

First, when reading reviews, make sure you specify the location of the Cooma Office, as there are two. One in town and the other at the airport. My experience at the Downtown Office in Sharp St was excellent, although the office itself is quite modest. I was having issues converting a private hire car booking to an insurance company booking and Michelle was very knowledgeable and could not have been more helpful. Really glad I dropped in and saved myself a three hour return trip to the Canberra Office. Thank so much!

1 Star is Overrating Hertz

Absolutely Terrible,

Paid for the Car on the 19th of December -$1970.00 charged the card. Now they charged us another $2111.62 after extending the vehicle for only 3 days. It’s absolutely Pathetic!! Now they say - we can’t talk, send us an email.

Hertz, you are pathetic!!! You people are thieves!!! Disgusting business practice.

OVERCHARGED TWICE

I can't recommend Hertz customer service at all. Their new computer system is a failure. I was made to wait 30 minutes to collect the truck. My credit card has been loaded twice with bond plus rental charges totalling $1,800- and once with rental charges totalling $400-. I now can't use my credit card and Christmas has been ruined. So much for Customer Service! I haven't been able to talk to anyone about this issue. The Contact us phone number for customer relations says just send an email and it will be dealt with in three days. Effectively NO customer service.

Absolutely The Worst - Go Elsewhere

Given a change of plans I needed to drop the car I rented from Brisbane Downtown (Which is not downtown at all but in the suburbs near the airport) at Hervey Bay. I was ok to pay an additional fee so was floored when that fe was $1,000!!! The cost to rent a car from Brisbane (NOT) Downtown and drop of at Hervey Bay was only $400 odd!! So I had to drive back to Brisbane 3hours, drop the car off, pick another car up and drive back to Hervey Bay to avoid their extortion charge.. EXTORTION. Go elsewhere do not use this company ever.

Why am I charged against a cancelled credit card in May when the card was cancelled in March to stop Hertz from illegally taking money after my insurer had settled the dispute. Hertz lied at every turn and is certainly not to be trusted. Read the other reviews, many are of the same opinion as me. These are crooks, stay away.

Why can’t Hertz Australia provide an etag in every hired car. Other companies like Thrifty always provide one. When I rented a car from Hertz the person who did the paper work specifically told me to have my own tag. I use E Way and when I login to my E Way account and try add a car it clearly says no Taxis no hire cars and no rentals. In such a case how am I supposed to pay for the toll without calling a number and listening to music for a very very very longtime. Also the Hertz web site says all cars are registered with RMS. Then why not give a tag in each car. Such a poor customer service.

REG 894-YEZ Rental agreement Dec 22 2022 - Jan 3 2020. I would like to know if there were any Toll Chrages for the above vehicle between the dates listed. I have already asked and have had NO REPLY. I have already been charged for damage $2219.97 that I allegedly done and also Location Fee of $167??? I do not want to be told I have Toll bill. as well if I do I need to know how to pay.The whole experience has been bad and I will never ever use HERTZ Rental again. I believe I have been scammed Insurance. Not happy

Toll charges/invoices can take roughly 4-6 weeks from the date of return to be processed and come through to us.
If you have incurred any toll charges they should appear in the next couple of weeks.
Unfortunately we are unable to check this before to processing time I'm sorry.

Simply NOT Good enough. Why aren't cars fitted with devices that capture your tplls and is charged on retun of the vehicle like MOST other Rental companied? Don't bother so thinking I am done with HERTZ I still have a Toll bill to pay. So Disgusted with the overall treatment from this SCAMMING OUTFIT
