What can a Jayco journey outback do that a tourer can’t? We will get the gas bayonet, the bike rack... neither can go off road, and it’s 300kg lighter, so what’s the limitation?

Ground clearance, solar, wading depth, tougher suspension, more travel, all round better van, much nicer looking etc etc.

We had that happen with a swan outback. At first they blamed us? Unequal loading? But the whole van was a bit skewed...

Hi, I have a 2017 pop top journey.
When l connect the hose to the caravan, water constantly trickles out both sides of the tank filling holes.
Any advice on how to solve this would be great.
Cheers Rick.

I think a pressure reducing valve may work. I have a similar problem on my 2018 Journey DX

Trying to decide whether to buy the 16ft Single axle Journey or the 17ft tandem axle. Can anyone tell me what their fuel economy is like for both. Does the difference in weight make much difference and is it harder to park the 17ft?

17ft Tandem far safer to tow and not much larger to park.

Similar in size so you can expect similar performance. Dual axle gives peace of mind in puncture issues and more stable to tow but harder to move once unhitched. We chose the dual axle. Better all round van.

We went through all the expert opinions including returning van to Jayco Australia at Dandenong, they said it was normal wear and tear.
The van was their for the day and they measured and checked and said all was within specs and that as goodwill replaced Tyre and Rim.
By the time we got home about 1,000klms the tyre was wearing again, took lots of photos of tyre, axle and hangers.
After contacting our dealer after a couple of hours we had response from Jayco Australia, that Alko would send up replacement axle and would pay for fitting and checking.
No dramas after that.

I tow one with a 2015 4x4 extra cab and have no worries without stabelisers but are always conscious how I load, more in the Ute and under the bed.

Has always towed well without bars and has a reasonable ball load would advise anyone to get the alko stabiliser package though
We were towing with our Jackaroo and now dmax Most of our friends with bigger heavier vans now look at ours with envy I mention this because most of theirs need wdh.

new jayco journey 17.55.9 single bed model, very happy with it, but has anyone come up with a modification to access the centre robe whilst the roof is in the down position ?

1 answer

I replaced the fixed hinge pins on the roof mount with 6mm lynch pins, when you want to access the robe pull out the pins and lift the mechanism up above door height and open door, after accessing close robe door and reinstall lynch pins ready to lift roof at next campsite.

Interested in hearing how travellers pack their Jayco Journey. Wondering how much weight the top cupboards above the dining table will tolerate. ie; for canned food etc. Don't want to over do it.

We generally put all that stuff in the cupboard under the sink and put the lightweight crockery, tea, coffee in the top cabinets. Bearing in mind we have a pop top so overheads aren't very big.

The strong winds today have buckled the roof of the caravan. Any ideas on what would need to be done to fix it? Idea of cost? Cheers

How old is the van and was the roof up or down when the damage occurred?

Chook Fowler
Chook Fowler

holy mackerel, never heard of this happening before, assuming a pop;top the only thing I can think of is it was in the up position and you did not have the raising mechanism locked in position, or there was a mechanical failure with either end lifting systems, allowing the roof to be twisted. Also did you have the awning erected at the same time as this will put tremendous forces on the roof in high winds [we always pull awning in with strong winds about] . hope this may provide a possibility of what went wrong, regards Chooka

RobynB
RobynB

Nope! The roof was down and locked! The awning was rolled up. The winds were so strong I thought the van was going to roll! It was attached the vehicle. The only thing was the door was open! I was inside the van and it was pretty scarey!
