Bought one - very happy
KL Longitude (2014-2023)Test drove the Jeep and the Mazda CX5. The Jeep was quicker and bigger.
Size won me over. I am very happy with car. I dont think that the interior was as nice in the jeep as the mazda either but as a whole I prefered the jeep. - I also have an extended warranty that the dealer gave me free.
Jeep Cherokee 2002
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)Our Jeep has 223,000 kms on it now. It has cost me next to nix in extra repairs from a used purchase at 20,000 kms and 12 months old (after it had already been around Oz as a lead tour vehicle). It has original everything and has never had the gearbox oil or air gas changed (and everything works). You can get duds, you can get beauties...I am a happy camper but I do change (the basic engine etc.) oils and filters personally and frequently.

Cherokee KK (2008-2013)Paid $49,000 for a new jeep.
It dropped a fuel line in the dealers driveway before we could even drive it off their premises!
Had 21 more issues and needed 5 more tow trucks over its short-lived life.
Never took it off road cause I didn't trust it.
Tried to get the dealer ([name removed]) and the importer Fiat Chrysler Group Australia to give me a full refund or a replacement vehicle but they refused every request.
I refused to on-sell my problem Jeep to someone else, so we crowd-funded the total destruction of it.
Need high ground clearance
Cherokee KK (2008-2013)I owned a 2011 cherokee limited. I find this cherokee is good for medium off roading, but excellent for sand driving with extra added ground cleraence. Superb interior with leather seating. It done 71000 kms successful without any complaints. Only change battery recently.High fuel economy and service cost are the only draw backs which I can mention. Each services cost me above $700 and the last major service for 48000 cost me $1100.Suspension and stearing wheels are not smooth I admit it's a jeep.
Reliable,
High service cost and high fuel economy.

Over 10 years running
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)Bought 2002 Cherokee 3.7L in 2005 and 10 years later she's motoring along. Have only had to repair a few things over the years as you'd expect across the lifetime like a new battery (years ago) and wipers once in a while. I use public transport for work so only gets driven to football training and at weekends. Only problem I've had is water leaking in after heavy rain on front passenger side - which I can't figure out!

Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)Love my 2007 jeep Cherokee, purchased a couple years ago and still going well. The only problem we've had is the back wiper stop working.
It's reliable, feels safe, is affordable to run (diesel) etc. Cant fault it.
I think I've been well and truly converted into a jeep fan.
Looks great, but it has some major flaws
KL Limited (2014-2023)I purchased a Jeep Cherokee KL Limited (the new Cherokee, released in late 2014) with a 2.0 Litre Diesel engine and 9-speed gearbox. The car looks great and you will get many comments about that (with the "You bought a Jeep" and "You need a bigger boat" comments as well). The car is feature rich and in the same price league as it's competitors. I wanted a Diesel and I got wone over by a huge media screen with navigation, ventilated leather seats and a proven Diesel engine (Fiat/Alfa/Holden).
The gearbox is not that great, as is has a manufac

It is nearly impossible to change gears manually, as the car overrides the gear anyway, the gear changes from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd are very harsh and the box get's noisy after a while. My gearbox was due for replacement. The cabins built quality is not that great and the car has very audible noises. The Navigation system has some glitches and the routes it takes are very weird and longer than necessary. Some other electronic feautres, like the park distance control sometimes have a life on their own. My alternator belt snapped after only 1,500km and the replacement belt (the only in Australia) snapped after only 2,000km after replacing the first belt. This belt was taken out of a stock vehicle.Where have you been all my life
KL Trailhawk (2014-2023)I've clocked 700k's the first week of my 2015 Cherokee Trail Hawk. This is the best car I have ever driven in my life, It has everything- and more thatnI need and will go places your typical SUV wouldn't consider attempting. Sure, we have a getting to know each other period going on, but that just makes this car more interesting. Would I get another? Put it this way- I pulled up next to a new Sports Range Rover and asked myself what car I'd prefer. The Rangey of course, so I could sell it, get me a new Jeep and put the change in the bank.

Cherokee KL (2014-2023)This car is possibly one of the worst cars I have ever had to work on nothing about it is good, everything that I have had to do to this car has made me want to commit commit mass murder I honestly cannot fathom for whatever reason this car was made, was it to make people hate the things that they love?

dissapointed
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)i have a 2003 jeep cherokee renegade and started giving me gearbox problems at 128000kms and was told it needs a rebuild costs around $4000,so i waited at 130000kms the ecu stops working and the the car stops working, jeep australia cant supply a new ecu and cant reprogram a second hand ecu,so the car is useless and for wrecking now, unless i come across a jeep 2003 cherokee renegade wrecking and take out its ecu, control module, key reader with keys and replace it with mine i have no chance of getting this car back on the road, what a dissapointmen

KL Trailhawk (2014-2023)Vehicle in question is a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 2014. This is the off-road version of the Cherokee range with a high/low range auto gearbox and modified front and rear body panel to improve approach / departure angles. This review is really initial impressions. I've had it for approx 6 weeks and it has a little under 3k on the clock.
Comfort and Urban driving.
Very Good, 8-9 out of 10. Easy to drive and good noise levels cruising around town. Reasonable visibility, the vehicle is a mid range size wise and doesn't have the high driving
Heap of rubbish
Cherokee KK (2008-2013)Rotors and brakes wore out before 15000ks what a joke DVD player broke and wasn't fixed excuses and more excuses never again!!

MY05 Jeep Cherokee Rubbish
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)Everything fine (except for the normally excessive fuel consumption) until the oil warning light came on, and, half a minute later as I was pulling off the highway the motor seized. The wreckers all over Australia know how much trouble these vehicles are and want around $3500-$4000 for a motor in any condition as long as it is going. The problems I have had are less than my Laredo diesel (which I sold to the wreckers to save anyone having any more trouble with it), but are still numerous and expensive to fix.
Easy for my wife to park in the city, good radio.
Average 18L/100km, noisy transmission, expensive parts (which you need often), hard on tyres.
Brilliant and suited me. Work rest and play. Does the long haul, adventure and daily work and family
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)Only consumable required for a 2002 jeep sport. Batteries and brakes. Travelled with the family and work. Still going strong. As a note have had Toyotas, mitsubishi and VW as well as holden. Actaully a really well built car that does run heavy on fuel but in terms of carbon print and it durability and multi use the premium of $1000 fuel a year over a high pressure refrigerator or no use other than travelling to the shops is totally inconsequential.
On a final note with the car over 12 years old and servicing the family all this time no matter what happens now it is memories for litre for all of the family.

I was also told not to leave it to long as the diff could let go at any minute. I said I would have a think about it as it was an expensive repair. I drove my vehicle around the corner to Auto Torque in Phillip and was greeted by a pleasant young man,I did not mention anything about Rolf Motors all I said was that my vehicle was due for a transmission, transfer case and diff service and could they check that everything was fine as i use it as a tow vehicle for a boat and I don't want to have any issues when towing. Booked it in the following Monday at 8.30am. Monday 10.00am I get a phone call from Auto Torque in regards to my quote. Checked your drive train everything is fine,no gear fluid leaks, diffs are fine and the breather hoses are above the guards no water intrusion, transfer case and transmission are fine, uni joints are all good all it needs is all gear oils replaced and transmission oil filter and pan sealer. The fellow also commented that the transmission oil cooler was the biggest he had ever seen almost as big as the inter cooler and he stated that it would never have over heated the gear oil and I replied never.Whole job done including hooking up to the computer to patch the transmission into the motor, total price $549.00 Rolf Motors $3890 + a load of B.S. Auto Torque $549 + honest service and a good job,I have done 5000km since the service and I am very happy much smoother gear changes and even better fuel economy. Rolf service is a ripoff, over charging for work that is not necessary or not even done and yet charged,Very disappointed as I purchased the vehicle from them .I would not recommend them to anyone for service but I can highly recommend Auto Torque, they get the job done with the right advise and price.Horrible
Cherokee KK (2008-2013)Have had my 2012 cherokee jet for 1 1/2 years and has done 35000 km on it my brakes and rotors have worn and they refuse to replace them saying that is general wear and tear,
I've never owned a car that has gone through brakes and rotors this quickly.
I called customer service (jeep Australia) and they were no help at all they just kept telling me that if that's what the dealership has ruled it then that's it.
They continue to tell my it's because I have a heavy car, but a friend of mine owns a grand cherokee with exactly the same amount
Surprisingly not good
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)My KJ jeep worked wel for 50,000 kilometres and then went berserk... Fuel line issues, terrible to start and the Canberra Jeep people were appalling. I spent nearly 8 grand trying to fix it and gave up, bought a hilux and no troubles after 180k. Don't buy a jeep in ACT is my advice.
Handled well
After 50k no service or support
Surely if the vehicle had only travelled 50,000 km it would have been covered by new car warrantee. So why did you spend nearly $8,000 to fix it? Have you not told us the complete story?
Like I stated in my above comment to Ben. Take it to another dealer. Contrary to public opinion, they are not all incompetent.

JEEP - Just Empty Every Pocket...
Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)I have now owned 2 Cherokee's an XJ and a KJ, great cars to drive, but when the start to go wrong... it never ends.
Both vehicles, although well maintained, started to develop electrical problems at the 9 year stage.
In both cases, numerous visits to Jeep servicing centers, several over the years, resulted in often being told "nothing is wrong with this Jeep" or "we can't find the problem"

Surprisingly my XJ has no squeaks or rattles and runs smoothly with plenty of grunt. One of the reasons it's so reliable is because it doesn't have much in the way of sophisticated electronic devices that current Jeeps do.Terrible

Cherokee KJ (2001-2007)We really liked our 2005 CRD but the high cost of maintaining it and ongoing issues made us decide to trade it in. While I did not like it, I think the low resale price is justified. I would not buy another Jeep (though it was great to drive).
Driving position and general feel of the car. The CRD diesel is a great towing vehicle for our large camper trailer, except it will overheat under heavy load (i.e. going up hills) even on quite mild days. Relatively Economical to run. Good turning circle and safety features.

Had it since new, never given any trouble for over five years. Comfortable, tough and I gave it to my wife a year ago when we had our first child and she will not part with it. It will be in the family till it dies and given its record could be quite a while yet. Can be a bit more rugged in feel than others in this price point but that is part of its charm. Cherokee KK (2008-2013)The car is fun to go off road in but expensive to run and repair. I don't think I'd ever buy another one.
The space and off roading.
One by one, almost everything has broken on our Jeep and it's quite expensive to repair or replace parts. It is a very heavy car so uses a lot of fuel. I recently found out it only has one anchor point - so unbeleivably wee can only fit one child seat in the back of this big car, which I assume would be sold as a family car. We need to pay to get a second anchor point installed.
