Have a 2010 sportage platinum diesel, 6 weeks out of warranty the audio system crashes, have been told by kia that the amplifier has expired and they want $2000.00 for a new one. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
5 answers
I haven't had any problems with audio but the Sat - Nav system was replaced twice in the first 12 Months. It is OK now touch wood. However $2000 sounds over the top I'd be looking at something after market has to be cheaper than that. Try the net.
Cheers
Gil
Never had any problems with ours everything was perfect with it
Thanks Gil & Sis & Blackdog,Have tried aftermarket scene, because they have to replace the amplifier the new one has to be rewired as the original harness will not marry up with kia loom. With over 3 hrs labour & new harness only it was over $ 1000.00. I then had to replace the head unit $430.00, facia plate, steering wheel controls harness $340.00,plus extra costs associated with rear view camera to marry up with new head unit, where does it stop .I will just have to keep singing to my wife when we go on a trip.

I have just bought a brand new Kia Sportage Platinum. Everything is good except, how do I turn off the windscreen wipers doing one sweep when I start the motor? I have tried all the settings on the stalk on the steering wheel but no luck. It seems an over kill in summer when the wipers and the windscreen are both dry and certainly dusty. Over a period of time, I would be worried the winds run could get scored, or at the least I would need to change the wiper blades mo often than usual. Does anyone have any ideas?

I was on a call and got out car and when i got back in and started car it was onky showing this symbol.

You could try taking the car to a totally different mechanical repairs workshop or a auto electrician workshop might be able to help you
I know what you mean though some workers are just in it for the money
It should just need a reprogramming of the software. Take it to a kia dealer and it should be covered under warranty ;)

Recently noticed my reversing camera screen has a section in the bottom right corner with a black mark across it. It partially obscures the rear view. It's probably the bumper bar but I don't seem to recall it being there before. Maybe the direction the camera is pointing has changed slightly? Was wondering if others with the reversing camera screen in the dashboard have noticed this or does everyone just have a completely clear view of what is behind?

Hi,
We have had no problems except for occasional rubbish (dirt, rain etc) on the camera. These are easily cleaned off.
Cheers
Hi Peter, I cant help you im sorry, i dont have a problem. I think you should check your camera, it may have been bumped as you say. Good luck
It could be the dot matrix in which it's probably better to take the vehicle to a kia Australia workshop or a auto electrician workshop might be able to help

Hi Kiajenny, I am sorry I don't have the nav system on my Sportage as it is the base model but I have a mate who has a platinum model and should be able to help. I will also have a look in my owners manual and see what it says.
You could try asking kia Australia or you could try the kia Australia workshop or their office

Where can we get daytime running lights for our 2013 Kia sportage series 2?
3 answers
You can get some on ebay from jdmautoparts America for $39.99 with free postage. Just do a search on ebay for 2013 Kia Sportage daytime running lights and it should come up.
I'm not sure what you mean by daytime running lights, are they the LED's on the headlights?
Oh yes have a look on Aliexpress

We purchased Kia Sportage SLI Dec 10 Techno Orange. ..loved the car all over. ..now due to financial circumstances we need to sell to reduce repayments...has 55000 kms on it...any suggestions what we should sell it privately for dealers trade not interested in?.....Mimi Central Coast NSW

Auto 20-22k
Manual 18-20k
Hi Mimi, is yours a diesel? We'd had our 2012 model platinum diesel listed on car sales asking $30,000 ONO for months & not one bite!!! It was 2 years old & less than 30,000kms on the clock..top of the range incl sat nav etc. We ended up trading it for 24k on an Audi Q7 which meant we lost 21k in 2 years which was devastating for us. We will never buy a brand new car ever again!!! Good luck with your sale, the best bet is to look at similar models with similar kms & compare.
According to the CarSales website, it should be worth $21400 to $24100 for the diesel or $17300 to $19600 for the petrol. These are stipulated as prices for private sale on vehicles with between 80,000 to 130,000km. As yours has only done 55000, this should put it in the upper range of prices. Then make adjustments for any body/interior damage or useful accessories (like a towbar etc)

I bought a Kia Platinum Diesel Series II in 2014. It has a very loud wind noise which seems comes from the glass panel in the roof. The mechanic at Kia Wangara can't hear the noise (he is the only one!! who can't). The sales manager suggest to turn the radio on, but that is not a solution, because the noise is still there and becomes louder. Any other suggestions?
5 answers
Hi Ebony, we don't have that at all in ours. The mechanic's suggestion to turn on the radio is ridiculous. Don't take no for an answer, that's why we have warranties! maybe have a look at the seal & make sure there's nothing sitting in there (rock etc) which may make the noise if it's not getting a tight seal, otherwise take it back & demand they fix it. Good luck :).
Ebony, we've had Kia roofracks installed from new so there is always a little wind noise. I've never removed the racks so haven't heard what it sounds like without. Having said that, if we close the sunshade, the noise is barely heard at 100kmph so I would expect it to be even less without the racks. Sounds like an ill fitting section of the sunroof. Being told to turn the radio on is a rather flippant suggestion. If you were complaining about a strange noise coming from the engine, would that be their response also? If you go to the Kia website, there is an online form where you can make a query. Give that a try and see what "head office" says...particularly the glib response from one of their dealers.
You could try taking the vehicle to a panel beaters shop to to see if they can help

I have a Kia shortage 2012 diesel. Just had its 30k service and it's constantly pulling when I accelerate. I literally have to push the accelerator right down and it hasn't even reached 90km.... What is gng on ?!?!?

Don't know what the problem is - I'd take it straight back to the people who serviced it.
It could be a number of problems @ there could be a problem with the computer or the engine / first try the kia Australia workshop or a diesel specialist engine repairs workshop or if that doesn't work it could be a electrical problem in which case a auto electrician shop might be able to help

Take it your a Kia workshop
Yes i am now booked at the Kia dealership to fix this problem . Took it to a mechanic (not Kia as they were booked for a week ) wrong thing to do. Still not repaired and charged $340 for Nothing. This mechanic I later found out has 23 claims in court against him----I thought this would be a simple fix-- Lesson learnt - its a Kia -so repair with a Kia mechanic. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so disappointed for not waiting
You could also try taking the vehicle to a braking specialist workshop such as bendix or pedders suspension shocks, steering and brakes that's if you haven't already had the fault repaired

I own a 2012 Kia Sportage SLi. Has any other Sportage owner experienced an intermittent problem where you turn the car on and the power steering is frighteningly light at all speeds and the cruise control cannot be set? This fault doesn't happen when you're driving it only happens when you first turn the car on? The fault continues until you turn the car off and if you're lucky when you turn it back on the next time the fault is no longer there. I've had the car to my local Kia Service centre and they cannot find this (intermittent) problem. Would appreciate any feedback. BTW Kia Motors Australia are not being proactive in finding the very alarming and dangerous fault.
Thanks for any help you can give....Phil

You could try taking the vehicle to a braking, steering, and suspension specialist workshop such as pedders suspension shocks Australia workshop or the problem could even be with the onboard computer processing unit or a sensor in which case a auto electrician workshop might be able to help

Can someone tell me if its highly unusual for our 2012 Sportage to need new brake pads and rotors machined after 47000 ks? Only ever driven normally round city roads and open highways.
4 answers
We needed the same done to our 2011, which surprised us as well.
Millage was about the same. Our mechanic said that it wasn't unsual. Obviously brake pads don't last as long as they use to (100K)
Just had the same thing happen to me with my 2012 Sportage Platinum, still at the kia service centre as I'm typing this. Gone in for the 30K service and get told that we have to replace front and rear pads and rotors on a not even 2 year old car costing us over $2k and told its not covered under warranty as it's classed as normal wear and tear. I've had plenty of new cars and have never had to replace both sets of pads and rotors at this age and KLM's. I only drive to and from school, havn't even been interstate with it. Will definately be making a complaint to Kia about this.

Last week I picked up my new sportage diesel.
I have noticed on the "litres per 100km" part of the trip computer that the reading is 19 (20 is max) when the vehicle is idling. I would have expected it to be the other end of the scale.
Can anyone shed some light on this. Would this not impact on the overall fuel usage figure?
The reading appears low at low revs and low load....why would it then go up at idle?
Chris
6 answers
Yes, it should be zero or close to. Mention it when you book your 1st service with Kia.
Spoke to dealer and KIA HQ. Both said that the high reading at idle is normal.....something to do with the inputs to this reading are not providing data in the idle condition. So...... all other KIA Sportage owners must be experiencing the same result. Can someone confirm this please.
They say that it does not impact on the total fuel usage reading at the end of the trip.
HI, sorry been away, never noticed it but yes ours is the as your ChrisH, at idle, will ask when it goes in for it's 15000 service, but it certainly doesn't affect the fuel useage just been down to Metung and back, filled up and have done 403k's and the fuel gauge is on half full, so the fuel useage is great and we certainly don't travel light or putter along.

I have a series 1, 2013 Sportage Platinum diesel. Should there be audio speakers in the rear doors? There is no sound coming from either rear door but the design of the door card suggests there should be speakers behind it.
1 answer
Hi Bella, the sportage is equipped with six speakers and a sub-woofer. Have you tried to adjust the settings? Perhaps the sound is allocated to the front speakers only. You probably have done it but try to put your ear close to the rear door speaker to check it. Normally the sound is lower than the front speakers. Let me know how you go after checking the settings. Good luck. :)

I have a 2011 kia sportage and so far have been very happy with it. However, I am having a problem that is intermittent and my mechanic can't help. Every now and then when I go to accelerate, the car does not respond. Any ideas?
3 answers
2 things. 1 Mine has a 5 year warranty so it would going back to kia to fix.2 As there is no accelerator cable (electronic) it is either the transmitter or fuel injector issue
Hi George, how long does it take to respond? In what kind of situation? When you're trying to overtake inducing the gears to change or when you start the car? As andrew suggested I believe it may be the transmitter. Did you take the car to Kia?
Thanks for your response.
It generally happens when taking off at an intersection but has happened at low speed around 50kph. It once happened at around 80 then suddenly accelerated.
It doesn’t feel like a sudden gear change, mainly power. Somebody else told me that Kia need the fuel filter changed every 2 years.
Regards
George

Does the kia Sportage come with a Navigation system? its a priority for me, thanks guys for response

According to the Kia website http://www.kia.com.au/owners/satellite-navigation Sat-nav is available in the Sportage, though they do say that it's only available on certain models.

What is the Kia Sportage like on gravel roads. I am looking to buy but have to travel 10km of sticky sloppy gravel to get to my house. Also, does anyone have an opinion about the cost of parts - are they more expensive than, say a Holden or Ford?
1 answer
The sportage handles really well on the gravel. But it goes without saying to drive to conditions. I have 5kms of gravel which is sometimes in parts under water after heavy rains. I would suggest you change your tyres though. The Hankooks I think are a bit soft for the gravel mine have worn pretty quick, I have changed brands and went with tyres with a more chunky tread. The awd / abs are great features. Also the diff lock is handy with the sloppy gravel roads.

Noisy / Squeaky brakes on 2011 KiaSportage. Is this common ?
5 answers
I haven't heard about any others.I know my does after washing the wheels but only in reverse.
Get your brake disc pads checked just to be sure as they do wear down fairly rapidly.
cheers..
There isn,t a recall but if you mention it to your dealer they should offer to replace rotors and pads as some cars do have creaky brakes as i did
Problem was fixed promptly
Hi Davy. I've noticed the brakes on our 2011 Si squeak at low speeds, like in car parks. Did you get yours fixed under warranty? Cheers
