Great car
We have had our sli my12 since nov2011 and done 114,000 ks. We have always looked after our cars, this one has not missed a beat. Very comfortable to drive, handles very well, even on dirt roads (not hardcore 4x4 needed dirt ones), spacious. No major issues at all after this long. If people genuinely look after their cars you get great value on then, only exception is if you buy a genuine lemon. We got 7 year warranty on ours when we bought it and have had no need for it as yet.
Like any car there are things we wish were different. Aircon in t...Read more

Worst car we've owned!
Kia Sportage Platinum Turbo Diesel 2011.
We sold a Ford Focus Sport 2.0 2011 to get the Kia. Very bad decision. The Ford beats the Kia in every way. The interior of the Kia is terrible. The front seats are wide, flat & hard. You slide across the seats when cornering. If you're colour blind you will have extreme difficulty reading the dash instrumentation on sunny days. The Bluetooth connectivity is very clumsy & difficult to use. The suspension is rock hard. Our baby was woken many times by the big thud when hitting bumps in the road. Our car...Read more
had some kind of rear differential issue & made a grinding sound when cornering or accelerating. We took it back to Gateway Motors in Wollongong many times for the diff & a faulty air conditioner to fixed under warranty. Neither got fixed. Worst customer service you could get from a dealership. I will never deal with that company again. The brakes are terrible. Cheap sounding stereo. Steering feels notchy. Not smooth at all. We had the door seals replaced under warranty & could still feel & hear the wind blowing through the doors. The windscreen cracked from the drivers side right across the middle of the screen directly through the drivers line of sight. We assumed it was due to the body flexing. We owned that piece of garbage for 2 years & it was such a relief to finally get rid of it. Worst car ever!

Great looks, good performance and excellent value for money
I purchased the 2011 model of the Kia Sportage. A great looking car, with an excellent driving experience. We purchased it brand new and has now done 82,000Kms, driven it across half of the country. It came with a 5 year warranty at the time of purchase.
I have the base edition and at times the 2.2 litre engine can feel a bit under powered given the size and weight of the vehicle. However, the seating, the fittings, the looks and the hassle free driving makes it a great car to own.
The overall experience has been great. Worth every dollar and great value for the money spent. Makes for a sporty looking SUV and a great family car. Everyone at home loves it.

5 year 100,000km review
I have never kept a car for more than 2 years before buying my Sportage. This car keeps giving, still looks fantastic and never gives any trouble at all. It has no squeaks or rattles despite constant off road use on rutted dirt tracks, despite being a 2wd it walks all over my old Subaru Forrester AWD.
Hard driving delivers 500km from 44 Ltrs .... excellent economy.
Tows a trailer + 3 dirt bikes, 4 adults up front no problem.
Wouldn't mind a better stereo system, but can't complain as this is a basic model.
Very highly recommend.

My car or hers
We love the interior style, The dash is well laid out within easy reach.Seats are comfortable. The sleek sporty shape of the body is what attracted us to the car, and I just love the grille. The car handles well, steering is light and it has a great turning circle, better than our small sedan had. The 2.0 litre diesel turbo has power to spare and should tow our van easily. Fuel economy is good as long as you don't have a heavy foot. Long trip is where you will see the great fuel economy.
We just love it. Only had it for a short time but we all fell in love with it after the first drive. The only criticism I have is the very wide front pillars, and rear and side visibility will take a little getting used to after owning a sedan

Terrible after sales care
I bought a Sportage in late 2014 and after a minor accident requiring some spare parts the process to repair it has been an absolute nightmare. It's now been nearly 9 months and it's still not sorted. Customer service from the dealership has been terrible and worse still, Kia Head Office are avoiding the problem by claiming that each dealership is independently owned and it's not their responsibility. My insurance company have never experienced such incompetence from any other manufacturer. I will never buy a Kia again. Beware.

Perfect owner experience,
So what has failed? 1) rear wiper blade, 2) one parking globe. That's it!
Apart from that, other than oil and filters I have replaced the tyres once, brake pads once and that's it. This is the best car bar none. Truly unbeatable for reliability, build quality.
My mechanic just went over my car and said my car is perfect other than the handbrake needs adjustment and the a/c indicator light failed. I can live with that.
I truly believe this is the best built car available at any price.
Purchased in February 2021 at Keema Kia for $29,000.00.

Great SUV
Owned the Sportage SLi series ll for just over 2 years. The turbo diesel is really great, especially on the highway where the high torque makes cruising effortless & overtaking easy (Drove from Port Macquarie to Melbourne & back & I must say that the comfort, ease of driving & performance was first class). Had a couple of problems with the aircon thermostsat freezing & shutting the aircon down & the satnav locking up after about 300 km of a trip (running out of RAM?). Luckily, both problems disappeared after a half hour coffee break. These pr...Read more
oblems were both fixed at the next service. Apart from those glithches the car was comfortable, totally rattle free, economical (7.5l/100km average over 17,000km). Friends & aquaintances were universal in their praise of the car for its torque, comfort, fit & finish & ease of driving(techno orange paint also attracted lots of positive comments). I was so happy with the Sportage that I have just bought a 2016 Sportage Platinum diesel. Trying to learn how to use all of the features is no easy task, albeit an enjoyable one ..... Got a great trade-in on the old 'as new' SLi as I think the dealer had it sold before I traded it! If you buy one of these I think that you will be happy!Similar opinion? Platinum diesel =
We bought our car in June 2013 brand new. My wife is main driver. She's done about 40000 km with it. We still love the car and it's performance. We had a small issue with the rear diff a while ago but kia decided to replace the whole diff under warranty! We could not be happier with the customer service. Another small problem that we are having at the moment is with the driver's window, it seems a bit loose and the rear lights were "peeling". The car is up to a service this month, let's see if they replace that under warranty.
We have a heavy right foot so city drive consumption is around 8.5/100.
Overall we are very happy with the car and with kia. I would definitely buy another one!

Best buy
The driving experience in this car is amazing. I compared against all the models and it had the most features and a great engine and excellent price. Safe car too. We actually always buy BMWs so for us to swap to Kia is really saying something about the performance of this car.

Better than the name suggests
I looked at all diesel auto suv's in this size, and with the platinum specs, and none stacked up as well. Strong motor, all features I wanted, tows my 4.5mt tinnie easily, fuel economy is good, comfortable, looks good, feels solid on the road and the seven year warranty sealed the deal. I'd heard people say that the interior was too plasticky but what car isn't. I never thought I'd buy a Kia but I'm glad I bought this car. Seriously, Kia have turned the corner with their quality. I believe car manufacturers should forget about three year war...Read more
ranties and back their products with a minimum of five year warranty. I'll upgrade this car in 3 or 4 years and the person who buys it will still have 3+ years of full factory warranty. That has to be good for resale value.Purchased in January 2021.

The best car I've ever owned !!!!.
I'm in my seventies and wanted something easy to get in & out of, it had to be economical, powerful, reliable, comfortable, easy to drive, easy to park. I wanted something that was easy on the eye. The Kia Sportage ticked all those boxes.....and then some. Best car I've owned.

KIA Sportage great performing, economical vehicle.
I've owned my KIA Sportage Platinum for about 18 Months (30,000 Km) and couldn't be more impressed. It drives very well has loads of power to tow my 5.6 Quintrex Boat, fuel & gear. Fuel economy is unbelievable 7-8 round town and 6-7 on a trip. KIA comes equipped with just about every extra you can think of as standard (((not like most brands all cost extra))) Leather, Parking Sensors, Rear View Camera, Sat-Nav, Blue Tooth, Heated Seats F&B and more. There is plenty of leg room front and back, Capped Price Servicing and the best Warranty in Australia. My last 2 vehicles were Holden Statesman's very good car BUT Just in case you don't get the picture I LOVE my KIA.

Truly excellent car
I bought my wife a new Sportage Platinum in 2012 (in Orange) and she has absolutely loved this car since the moment she got it.In 55000kms of mainly rural driving, absolutely nothing went wrong, nothing came loose, nothing started rattling, it still felt like a brand new car, the only reason we traded it was on a new Hyundai Tuscon Highlander.(getting the hyundai only because she thinks it looks better than the new Kia, and it has cream leather interior)
In summary, our Kia Sportage Platinum with diesel has been the best car we have ever owned

Impressed
Have had mine for 10 months now and I am very impressed with it. I would recommend it to my friends. The performance and handling is very good, it also travels smoothly. I drove to port Macquarie from Sydney and was very impressed. The power and acceleration is ok for me, some people say it isn't powerful enough.

Fabulous car, EXCEPT for the radio beeping
Our 2015 Sportage is great and as our first AWD we feel a good choice. However, since new the radio continually beeps even when off, after 11 weeks Kia changed but after 7 weeks the problem is back. Very annoying, Kia are reviewing, again end of January. Frustrating.
Comfort and ride is good we just wish this distracting problem could be fixed, quickly rather than drag out over many months as it is very distracting. Would I buy another, yes, if they resolve this issue permanently.

Fantastic! But could be more
Had KIA Sportages my whole life, about 6 of them. In 2012 got a Toyota Kluger which was a fanatic car. That gets 5 stars easily.
I then decided to get the new KIA Sportage 2013 model. Platinum too, Car looks amazing, affordable, absolutely fantastic build quality.
Cons:
Could have a little more tech features
Some materials in the cabin are cheap feeling
When I tell people I have a KIA they think of the old KIA brand (which was horrible) and laugh at me!

Value package that sure to impress!
KIA Sportage series 2. Great to drive seating comfortable and good handling, steering slightly heavier than the ix35 but still great. Easy to use controls and audio, bluetooth on steering wheel, Economy good and although not a power house it does the job well with good gear ratios when needed. Did i mention 7year warranty, and parts cheap such as tail lights etc on world market. Needed a Cargo cover bling, Kia dealer price $1400 checked ebay new from HK $103 delivered, brilliant and looks great. No problem towing and engine seems consistent. Leather seats, moon roof, 19" wheels, sat nav, roof rails, push button start, AWD all the right stuff at affordable price. Very happy and in sunny Perth the sunroof is open and the road is long:)

Kia. How good are you!!!
1 Month ago we picked up our brand new SPORTAGE SI PREMIUM. To say this vehicle is one that fly's under the radar is an understatement! The value, design, drive, and to top it off the 7 year warranty. The car is for my wife and she loves it. We were waiting for the new Outlander to come out. Same boxy ugly duckling as the last model.
To say KIA has come a long way in the last 15 yrs or so is an understatement. The range of cars is impressive, but is missing 1 thing. If they bring out a duel cab 4x4 ute, that is as good as the Sportage I will be first in line!

I have a deal to buy kia 2012 platinum diesel 4wd for $15000 with 100000km on odometer. I am in a doubt whether I should buy this car or not as its Going to be 8 years old. Dealer is giving me extra 100000km warranty for extra $1200. Can anyone guide me is this a good deal to go for? Or i should buy a newer sportage?
1 answer
Check out car sales.com for comparative prices. It's done less than 13k per year so it's probably been well looked after and obviously not done much time on the road in 8 years. Price seems fine but low km is not always good for diesel particulate filters. If you buy it, fill it up with premium diesel and take it for a good highway run to clean it out. It's a kia, so mostly reliable.
Does it have a tow bar? Has it towed caravans? That can cause extra wear and tear on the rear suspension.

I bought my 2011 Kia Sportage platinum diesel turbo 2.0 L from auction. Driving for last 3 years with NO real issues. Recently it went very sluggish in lower gears no pick up etc. Engine light came up.
Diagnosed P0404 and suggested by NRMA that the Throttle body and EGR VALVE IS CLOGGED.
Throttle body and Turbine pump+ Mass Airflow sensor all were found very dirty nearly clogged. Cleaned with recommended cleaner sprays for each area now nearly new.
Started using BP Ultimate diesel has lowest sulphur recommended. Added diesel fuel additive to tank and replaced fuel filter.
After all that improvement noticed but not 100 % yet.
Engine light comes back after reset.
I am told EGR VALVE NEEDS proper cleaning. Could not do it with my mechanic he feels is bit too complicated to take it out for cleaning.
Any one can suggest how to clean my egr valve without opening/ dismantling from engine?? Mustaq nsw

Far too complicated for me to answer, sorry. I bought my car new. Good luck, someone else may be able to help you. Maybe write direct to Kia?
Talk to the Kia people online, an see what they say, I don,t fully trust the N.R.M.A, at times, not fully happy with there mechanics, If Kia makes it then they should know about it, only a thought!!
Too much city/suburb driving is NOT good for diesels. Its not what their meant for! Common problem with all c ity/surburb diesel cars. Should have got the petrol version.

did u change it properly, like the manual says?Or did you do it the way most people change a battery, like in the past ?It matters You have to follow the earthing instructions exactly and did you get a battery that Kia advises, not a shop, It matters The shops will tell you its the right battery when its not at all ..
