Just wow!
This is my first SUV and I went mad reading about SUV's priced under $40k. I checked out videos, read professional and amateur reviews about almost every brand. I test drove VW Tiguan, Mitsubishi ASX, BMW X1, Nissan Dualis, Mazda CX 5 and Kia Sportage.
I chose Kia Sportage MY12 Platinum Petrol, Signal red colour for the below reasons:
Looks - hands down winner when compared to any of the above SUVs or other SUVs under $40k category.
Features - The platinum range has most of the features. Please check Kia website for more details.
Power - 2.4l Petrol engine is a bliss to drive

What price, would be a good drive away price? I see that 37500.00 for the top of the range, including tinted windows, floor mats, full tank of petrol and road side assist for 5 years is ok.
I bought my Kia Sportage Platinum in 2010- first gen. Now I have several issues with it from squeaky upholstery on the passenger side door to its warning indicator for the gear box. The local dealer... Read more
is still trying to find the problem and holding my car indefinitely. So I don't have a car to drive to work. To think that this problem is a manufacturing issue, they don't give you much consolation at all for the inconvenience, not even a car to drive so I can go to work. I'm just an ordinary worker and my car equates to income. I can't afford to rent a car. The local dealer said they haven't got a spare car for me to drive. Period. I'm like feeling really disappointed in fact I'm beginning to regret buying KIA when I could have bought Subaru or Toyota or Honda range because their after sales service just excellent. I'm stock without a car for who knows how long ( they said they'll order parts from overseas...the other person said they don't know what's wrong with it). I don't know whom to ask for help now. Does anyone know? Any idea? Thanks. I'm just frustrated.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

This car is a REAL surprise.
I have had the car (Diesel Premium) now for 5 weeks, it has 5500k on the clock. Originally getting 7.6l/100k's now down to 6.8, mostly highway driving, it seems to depend a little on the brand of diesel you get, it has tonnes of torque. It drives so much better than the Honda CRV we are replacing. I got the 17" wheels from the lower models rather than the std 18" because the replacement tyres are really expensive and the refer the look of the 17s and the more compliant ride.
If you are looking at this type of car it does exceed the current c...Read more
rop Japanese models. Friends that have been in the car are really surprised at how good it is. I highly recommend this car. Everything so far. The power, comfort and ease of use is great, its nice and quite on the highway. It has great range 700k+ in a tank. Handles really well. The wife doesn't like driving it (badge snob) which is fine with me as it is now my car. The service quotes are reasonable. Mazda dealers refused to give me any quotes! I really like the reversing camera vision on the rear vision mirror. So much of the car design feels like it was totally integrated, so consistent. The options, towbar, roof racks, cargo pod, floor mats etc were all reasonable priced. Also the dealer attitude was great at Great Western Kia in Sydney. On the test drive, here's the keys see you in an hour. At Mazda, you get to drive around the block with them in it, I think I was allowed to do a 2 km loop. If you are looking at getting a diesel in general a word of warning. Some brands use a small filler pipe to the tank so you can't use all the diesel pumps, there are large and small nozzles at the bowsers. This KIA is doesn't suffer from this design issue. Apart from no Sat Nav option, to find cons so far I need to seriously nit pick. Lets see. The steering feels a little vague on centre on the highway. The window sills are high, can be a vision issue for small kids. When using the manual gears change on the auto there is limited tactile feed back. The rear seats don't have variable recline and don't slide. But none of that really affects me. I wish the panoramic roof was an option though, not that useful in the Australian summer. Wish it had a place to put your coins, out of view.2 comments

tely and the fact it won 4wd of the yr for 2010-11. months of internet research convinced me i should order the sportage. ordered august 2011, delivered jan 2012, just as well i wasnt in a real hurry to get it.vechile looks stunning in white. the led daytime running lighs give a touch of class no other small/medium suv has. 2litre turbo diesel has a little clatter but not excessive, 6 speed auto is very smooth unless foot is planted suddenly. dual zone air conditing is icey cold but increases fuel consumption considerably. front passengers seat shouls be height adjustable, electric and cooled like the drivers seat.unfortunately glove box isnt lockable but the cooling option for drinks is handy and convenient.inbiult gps woukd be nice but not avaliable, pity as this would made almost an ideal vechile. sunroofs are nice but rarely used in SA summers.Just an update, my Kia Sportage was written off in an accident in Sept 2012. I was sandwiched between two other cars. Fortuneately a police officer saw the accident. The car that hit me was written of... Read more
f and undriveable, this forced me into another car. After the impact only 1 of the 5 doors would close properly, though the chassis was reasonably ok it allowed me to drive 60km home without any noticeably change in the way the car drove, with the exception of a lot of wind noise because of the partially open doors. My only injury was a slightly sore right shoulder, from hanging onto the steering wheel, this cleared up in 2-3 days. My replacement car is the same (gotta love new for old insurance). At christmas drove from western Sydney to Brisbane on one tank!! 6.4L/100k, a full car (4 people and boot full), 4 stops, air con on all the way.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best little Runabout I have ever Owned
Plenty of positives. The best looking medium SUV on the market. Plenty of safety features for the price. Quality is equal to or betters the higher priced Japanese models. Alloys look stunning although tires will be expensive to replace. Air conditioning increases fuel consumption drastically. Smooth automatic which can't be felt shifting unless under heavy acceleration. Front passenger seat needs to be cooled and electrically operated like the drivers seat. Sunroof wont be used much in Australian summers. Would like to see the towing capacity i...Read more
ncreased especially with the torque available with the diesel motor. Fantastic car - so far the best I have owned. Styling, led lights (platinum), safety features, bluetooth, 6 speed auto, cooled and heated drivers electric seat Waiting period for delivery, bonnet opening because of an ill fitting headlight protector. Vision out of the back window. Front passenger seat needs cooling and electric. No GPS option.4 comments

ranty became a problem. Took 6 months to diagnose and fix problem. Also lots of call to Kia with promises of return calls which rarely eventuated. At least 5 full day trips to the dealership where car was purchased to fix problem (fixed on final trip thankfully). Had to pay for parts which did not fix the problem. Hoping for new Kia dealership to open soon. Still love the car but word of warning: "Be Careful with Warranty". Hoping my problems are an isolated incident as I am unimpressed with Kia Australia's lax attitude regarding Warranty. Trouble is new Kia cars have few problems nowadays and Kia sometimes appear unwilling to help when there is a problem.Reversing sensor problem solved - fault in the wiring. open here, been told dash has to be pulled apart to fix leak. 4 days work possibly no replacement car during this time. fact that they do not contact you when they say they will. This should have been fixed long ago and now they kept asking if the vehicle had been in an accident (it hadn't). Earlier I had even suggested the car go to a Hyundai dealer (it's virtually the same as ix35), but why wasn't this acted on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Worth waiting for.
My 2012 Platinum Sportage 2.0 Diesel automatic finally arrived on June 21 and it was worth the wait, I am glad I chose the Techno Orange colour even though all my friends and family assumed I would get white. This is my second Sportage, originally a 1997 model, still running and survived 2 teenage sons. I also had a 2005 Sorento. Driving the vehicle is a breeze once you get used to all the gadgets, I like the keyless entry and have got used to the proximity key and the start/stop button, the automatic is very smooth, you can hardly feel it u...Read more
nless you put your foot down then the turbo diesel springs to life, first time I did it the gear in the back cargo area slid up to the rear hatch. Cruise control, Bluetooth, radio controls are easy to access and use, Bluetooth occasionally fails to connect but I just turn it off on my Nokia C5 and then back on again and all is fine. I am very happy with the new Sportage and can recommend it to anyone. I was happy that I had checked out every review on YouTube and on the internet as I had a better understanding of the new Sportage and its capabilities. I liked that almost every extra that I had wanted was included, especially the SatNav. You can't help but be impressed when you sit in the leather seats, I have now clocked up 1700 Km across all sorts of roads and tracks and am very impressed with its handling ability, I couldn't fault its handling in heavy rain it just hung on to every corner, the auto wipers and headlights make driving even easier, I am amazed how good the Daytime Running Lights (LED) are, very effective. Check out the alloy nudge bar before you buy, the tubing stops short under the bumper and doesnt attach to the chassis, it is really just a driving light bracket, albeit an expensive one, the steps that were fitted to mine seem to collect all the dirt thrown up by the wheels, some 'ends' on the steps would be nice to stop this from happening.4 comments

Style, performance and value
After test driving (almost) every comparable sized SUV on the market we concluded that no other vehicle offered the same drive, features and value as our Platinum diesel Sportage. It is a great, fun drive. Our first diesel, love the punchier acceleration and the many features. We are in Northern Queensland so the cooled drivers seat is a luxurious bonus. My daughter and wife love the panoramic moon roof.
It was not a decision entered into quickly. We tried to weigh cost, features, safety, economy, interior space, reliability and drive as our s...Read more

Lovely USV
I have it for a month, this SUV is true excellence performs and value. My Sportage is 2.0 Platinum Diesel automatic and fully listed features. I'm learning of those feature one after one. My first 1500km service is in next week. That is a little adjust of my rain-wipe, other than that it's perfect. Highly recommend to everyone.
Standout styling, excellent performance and value.
Brake is a bit too sensitive.

Great runabout
We bought a Platinum. Parking very easy with camera and reversing sensors, diesel power and 6 speed auto outstanding, leather seats to firm, but heating and cooling systems are a good idea. Smart key is very handy when hands are full. Steering can be vague when straight driving, leg room in back seat ok, sunroofs should be optional (QLD summer), dual zone A/C another great feature. I needed to buy a bigger car and the 2011 Kia Sportage is so great for a family. It is spacious, great on fuel, and everything a modern car should have. Runs so smooth and has won awards for its safety.

I have a deal to buy kia 2012 platinum diesel 4wd for $15000 with 100000km on odometer. I am in a doubt whether I should buy this car or not as its Going to be 8 years old. Dealer is giving me extra 100000km warranty for extra $1200. Can anyone guide me is this a good deal to go for? Or i should buy a newer sportage?
1 answer
Check out car sales.com for comparative prices. It's done less than 13k per year so it's probably been well looked after and obviously not done much time on the road in 8 years. Price seems fine but low km is not always good for diesel particulate filters. If you buy it, fill it up with premium diesel and take it for a good highway run to clean it out. It's a kia, so mostly reliable.
Does it have a tow bar? Has it towed caravans? That can cause extra wear and tear on the rear suspension.

I bought my 2011 Kia Sportage platinum diesel turbo 2.0 L from auction. Driving for last 3 years with NO real issues. Recently it went very sluggish in lower gears no pick up etc. Engine light came up.
Diagnosed P0404 and suggested by NRMA that the Throttle body and EGR VALVE IS CLOGGED.
Throttle body and Turbine pump+ Mass Airflow sensor all were found very dirty nearly clogged. Cleaned with recommended cleaner sprays for each area now nearly new.
Started using BP Ultimate diesel has lowest sulphur recommended. Added diesel fuel additive to tank and replaced fuel filter.
After all that improvement noticed but not 100 % yet.
Engine light comes back after reset.
I am told EGR VALVE NEEDS proper cleaning. Could not do it with my mechanic he feels is bit too complicated to take it out for cleaning.
Any one can suggest how to clean my egr valve without opening/ dismantling from engine?? Mustaq nsw

Far too complicated for me to answer, sorry. I bought my car new. Good luck, someone else may be able to help you. Maybe write direct to Kia?
Talk to the Kia people online, an see what they say, I don,t fully trust the N.R.M.A, at times, not fully happy with there mechanics, If Kia makes it then they should know about it, only a thought!!
Too much city/suburb driving is NOT good for diesels. Its not what their meant for! Common problem with all c ity/surburb diesel cars. Should have got the petrol version.

did u change it properly, like the manual says?Or did you do it the way most people change a battery, like in the past ?It matters You have to follow the earthing instructions exactly and did you get a battery that Kia advises, not a shop, It matters The shops will tell you its the right battery when its not at all ..
