Loads of power & fuel efficient
We purchased the Diesel platinum 2 years ago & we've been very happy with it. Excellent on fuel, particularly long trips. We really couldn't fault this car, it's very powerful & can take off quickly which is handy for overtaking etc. We also got the colour sand track & we're always getting compliments on the car. The Audi styling has made it a real head turner esp with daytime LEDs.

O for Awesome
Kias have come a long way and almost have the same reputation for reliability as more trusted brands such as Toyota and Volvo. We bought our 2011 2.4 AWD Si Sportage in late 2012 with 15k on the clock. It is incredibly comfortable with plenty of power with the foot down. Fuel economy isn't too great around town but having a company fuel card that is a non-issue with me. Fuel economy on the open road is great with the tachometer reading about 1800 rpm at 100kph. In nearly 2 years of owning it I have clocked up nearly 45k driving from Baldivis to...Read more

Am looking at a 7 seater now so I think I will stick with Kia. Price, Awesome looking front, Handling, Design and build, Reliability.

Looks great, nice drive, but drinks like a v8
I purchased my 2013 Platinum 2.4L petrol around July last year. It is a very good looking car, and appeared to be very good value for money with features such as leather interior, push button start, electric driver’s seat, auto headlights and wipers, sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, trip computer, etc...
It has published combined consumption rate of 9.2L/100km, but I am averaging between 12 - 13l/100kms. I took it for a drive down south and back and I only managed 10.5l/100kms, which is extremely disappointing. Perhaps I got...Read more
a Friday car, but the Kia service people are trying to convince me that it is normal, and give it time to "break in". I am doubtful. In terms of ride comfort, it is a great drive. The seats are comfortable, power is adequate, and handling is pretty good. I have had to have the sat nav firmware upgraded three times due to problems, and it appears to have finally resolved the problems. Sat nav keyboard is QWERTY, but the phone book is ABCD, which is silly. Cruise control while it works, requires constant re-adjustment to maintain set speed. The accelerate (+) button does not really work. The audio system is very good, and it is nice that you can connect your iPhone via the connector, or Bluetooth. There are two auxiliary points, and one USB port. While the auto wipers are great, if left on auto, it will turn once when you start up the car which is bad when the windscreen is dry. In summary, while it appears that you are getting a lot for your money, the quality is not up to the same standards as the Japanese or European cars, which may be acceptable depending on your expectations. But it will cost you a lot more than you expect in fuel consumption. If I had known about the real consumption, I would have not bought the car. Sexy design, drives great, good audio system, capped price servicing, five year unlimited kms warranty Fuel consumption, poor cruise control, no QWERTY option on phone dialSimilar opinion? Not for me
My wife and I looked across a wide SUV range and in the end it came down to the top spec Kia Sportage vs Hyundai Ix35 diesel... In the end we bought the IX35 over the Sportage because of interior refinement, the Hyundai is allot more refined and the deal breaker was the engine noise that would come from front centre/dash... terrible insulation. The interior also looked very clumsy and poorly designed, if only Kia placed more emphasis on the interior then exterior. In the end we paid 2k more for the Hyundai...I guess quality just was not there.
Looks, day time running lights
Engine cabin noise... OMG! Rear visibility, interior design, back seats don't recline like the IX35

Bang for buck, looks sexy but there's some Cons you need to consider
My review of the Kia Sportage Series 2 Platinum Petrol
Pro’s that I care about
It looks sexy. Probably thanks to [name removed] (ex-Audi designer). The tail or the “[censored word removed]” looks sexy. Well done [name removed]. The front grill and LED lights look good too.
Price, great price for top Platinum model with lots of features such as leather seats, sunroof, big SatNav, reversing camera, auto wipers, driver and passenger heated seats (not that we need really them in Sydney).
Pro’s but I don’t really care
Kia gave a full size Alloy wheel tyre (yes, I don’t know why, but they give a full size Alloy tyre as a spare) so guess it’s a pro.

After driving Territory's for years I decided to try the Kia Diesel Platinum, well after 185,000 ks in two years when it came time to get another vehicle I got another, this one has done 75,000 in just over 12 months, these are truly a great vehicle, never had any problems, very comfortable to drive, nibble in the traffic but rolls along the highway effortlessly, probably get another next year.

r trim on drivers side door. So far the second one, there is a grommet fitted to rear right light assembly wiring loom, the dealer fitted loom for trailer runs back through this, if not fitted correctly allows water into wheel well, the amp and trailer ecu are fitted low in wheel well, I filled both with water, no dramas, got both replaced. One issue, stick to the Hankook tyres, on this one I have fitted Goodyears hoping to get a few more miles, way too noisy. Comfortable, handles well, economical, and tows well. Windscreens seem softer, prone to sandblasting.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

We bought a new Kia Sportage platinum series 11, Diesel in August 2013, it has done 11000 k's with no problems or issues, we are very happy it has plenty of power especially on the open road, and has more standard .accesory.s than we thought possible. The 5 year warranty and then the extended 3 year warrant by Frankston Kia and also the fixed price servicing for this 8 year period is a huge benefit. Nothing but praise for KIA.
Dealer is Ok, not the best but not the worst I've come across
The cars nice, rides nice.
I have the signal red as she looks stunning, she gets compliments all the time.

Sportage Platinum Diesel equals Awesomeness
Have had our Sportage Platinum Diesel now for just on 12 Months and almost 14000km on the odometer - since day one it has been a pleasure to drive - great visibility and easy to park with the reverse camera. Diesel engine very smooth and very powerful - its almost effortless with the amount of torque it has. Must admit both my Wife and myself were Kia Brand snobs previously - but cant rate it highly enough- Build Quality and fit is great.
Average just on 8-8.5lt/100km around town - and down to as low as 6lt/100km on a Long Highway trip
Sat Nav - sunroof - fun to drive
Cannot go through Radio presets on Steering Wheel button

2013 Platinum 2.4 petrol
We bought the top of the range Platinum with the sat nav 4WD with the sunroof and leather seats . I found that I didnt need most of the features such as the sunroof, heated and cooled seats and really not even the satnav (iphone has one) but 8.5/100 and a nice car to drive,I just added an aftermarket towbar and nudgebar, and it is a great car for 37k. Not as much grunt as my previous falcon fg but who needs speeding fines
Too many warning alarms.it is worse than my wife

Kia Sportage SL Platinum Diesel
I spent a lot of time researching before picking up a 2011 SL Platinum Diesel at auction (a repossession).
At the beginning of my search to upgrade from a tired 2001 Astra I wasn't expecting to end up with a diesel automatic SUV that is Orange. However I'm very happy with my decision.
Punchy 2.0L engine with plenty of power. Comparatively good fuel economy (around 8L/100KM). Roomy interior. Great looks (especially in Orange), High quality fit-out that has caused me to be told to stop showing off on several occasions. These include reversing ...Read more

2013 Kia Sportage SLi
So far, 2 months in and almost 6,000km and we are very happy with our decision to go with a Sportage. Before purchasing we narrowed our search down to the Kia Sportage and the Toyota Rav 4.
We live on a farm 50km from town and I travel in everyday for work so am doing minimum 100km per day, 20km of which is unsealed roads. It has been unusually wet so the AWD has been awesome! After being in a small passenger vehicle this made the wet slippery road seem like it was not actually slippery and wet, I hardly notice I am off road anymore, which ma...Read more

Very happy
Bought Sportage as we live in the city so mostly used for day to day runabout, but we have bought a caravan for trips away.
I did quite a bit research and found that this vehicle ticked a lot of boxes regarding towing.
It tows 1600kg braked,
Has a towball limit of 160kg, thats a lot more than most other SUVs.
400 NM of torque, and 135KWs of power.
Just done 6000Ks up and down west coast and car has been faultless, save for a cracked windscreen.
Very economical as well for towing a 1500kg caravan, between 11.5 and 14 litres of diesel per...Read more

Best SUV in my price range
My partner and I recently purchased a 2011 Kia Sportage Si (the base model) after reading reviews on this site. Before the purchase we had narrowed our options down to 3 cars to test drive - the Mitsubishi Outlander, Rav4 and the Sportage.
We drove a 2010 Outlander with low kms and it drove well but even at 60km/h the road noise coming into the cabin was noticeable. If you told me the car was a 2005 model I would have believed it because of the lack of interior styling and no bluetooth. It seemed very basic by today's standards. The seats w...Read more
ere reasonably comfortable and room in the cabin and boot space was good. I test drove 3 Rav4's and in each case the engine seemed to be working hard to get up to 60km/h. I think this is because of the 4 speed auto as it Revs quite high before changing gears. When it got up to speed it cruises along very nicely and feedback from the tyres through the steering was very good - it felt solid and controlled. We had spoken with friends who own Ravs and read the reviews and they all said the fuel consumption was high, something we wanted to avoid if possible. The main issue I had with the Rav4 was the seats... I found them uncomfortable and would imagine needing a chiropractic adjustment after a long trip. I really wanted to like the Rav4 but the seats and high fuel consumption let it down for me. We test drove 3 Sportages (2 Si and 1 Sli). Immediately we commented on how comfortable the seats were, even when sitting in the back. The dash looked good and even though there's a lot of hard plastics used, on all 3 cars I didn't notice any marks on the dash or hear any squeaks or rattles. The Sportage isn't as quick as the Rav (the 2.4L SLi was) but the engine is so smooth and quiet that you don't really notice. The steering feels a bit light but my partner likes it, she finds it easy to drive. Since most of our driving will be around the city, we wanted something fuel efficient, easy to drive and park, with comfortable seats and Bluetooth. The Kia ticked these boxes the best. Update: I've had the car 7 months now and put 24,000km on it (2nd owner). The car has been excellent around the city and my partner loves driving it. It's small enough for her to park easily but big enough for the pram and a few bags. It's been great on fuel too.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Problems with the camber on the rear wheels
I have had problems with the back tyres scrubbing out on the inside. The car is only 18 months old and I have gone through 5 tyres so far. Very expensive. The Kia dealership I have my services done at have told me there is nothing they can do about it, it is just the way it is!! I have had wheels alignments done at Pedders and they have been unable to adjust the camber right up. The car itself is great to drive, but this issue and cost that I have incurred is not good enough. Will be following up this issue with Kia head office to rectify the problem.
Great fuel economy and comfortable to drive

2012 Kia Sportage Platinum Turbo Diesel
Kia continues to push the envelope with value for money, and now build quality. The platinum model is at the top of the Sportage range, and subsequently has just about every option imaginable as standard. Although the interior panels are primarily hard plastic, the manufacturing quality is pretty solid for a car in this price range. After 3 months of daily use, the interior is still rattle and squeak free. The leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel aren't as soft as those found in Euros, but should stand up well to years of daily abus...Read more
e. The engine has mountains of torque (just shy of 400Nm) which is great fun around town and pulls effortlessly on highways, but runs out of puff pretty early. The 6 speed auto is fairly slow to shift and really could use a sports setting. Fuel use is also a little on the high side for city driving, averaging around 10.9L/100ks, however, this comes down to around 7.5L/100ks on highways. More spirited driving pushes fuel use up to about 12-13L/100ks around town. One major niggle which didn't become apparent until after the car was purchased is a 1-2 second lag between pushing the throttle and the car actually starting to move. This seems to be intermittent and only appears to manifest in the turbo diesel model, however it's not turbo lag. I can only put this down to the ESP system killing power in anticipation of wheel spin. This is most noticeable when trying to merge from side streets or short lanes from take off. The driver aids are very controlling and cut in to stop any sort of fun, which can be intrusive and unwanted when driving in some situations. Apart from the few issues outlined above, the Sportage Platinum diesel is very good value for money, with the pros far outweighing the cons. And, while fuel use can be a little high when pushed, normal driving will average around 10L/100km in relative comfort and 5 star safety. engine torque, massive features list, price, build quality, looks, highway fuel consumption auto slow to shift, unresponsive during takeoffs, driver aids cut in too much, city fuel consumption1 comment

Kia Warranty Problem
Recently bought Kia Sportage and was happy with the car until the driver window shattered spontaneously with the car at rest and nothing in contact with it. I have found similar problems with Kia windows reported on the internet. Kia denied responsibility and would not replace the window under their warranty. Expensive to replace ($427.26 at Bathust Kia) and all at my expense.

I have a deal to buy kia 2012 platinum diesel 4wd for $15000 with 100000km on odometer. I am in a doubt whether I should buy this car or not as its Going to be 8 years old. Dealer is giving me extra 100000km warranty for extra $1200. Can anyone guide me is this a good deal to go for? Or i should buy a newer sportage?
1 answer
Check out car sales.com for comparative prices. It's done less than 13k per year so it's probably been well looked after and obviously not done much time on the road in 8 years. Price seems fine but low km is not always good for diesel particulate filters. If you buy it, fill it up with premium diesel and take it for a good highway run to clean it out. It's a kia, so mostly reliable.
Does it have a tow bar? Has it towed caravans? That can cause extra wear and tear on the rear suspension.

I bought my 2011 Kia Sportage platinum diesel turbo 2.0 L from auction. Driving for last 3 years with NO real issues. Recently it went very sluggish in lower gears no pick up etc. Engine light came up.
Diagnosed P0404 and suggested by NRMA that the Throttle body and EGR VALVE IS CLOGGED.
Throttle body and Turbine pump+ Mass Airflow sensor all were found very dirty nearly clogged. Cleaned with recommended cleaner sprays for each area now nearly new.
Started using BP Ultimate diesel has lowest sulphur recommended. Added diesel fuel additive to tank and replaced fuel filter.
After all that improvement noticed but not 100 % yet.
Engine light comes back after reset.
I am told EGR VALVE NEEDS proper cleaning. Could not do it with my mechanic he feels is bit too complicated to take it out for cleaning.
Any one can suggest how to clean my egr valve without opening/ dismantling from engine?? Mustaq nsw

Far too complicated for me to answer, sorry. I bought my car new. Good luck, someone else may be able to help you. Maybe write direct to Kia?
Talk to the Kia people online, an see what they say, I don,t fully trust the N.R.M.A, at times, not fully happy with there mechanics, If Kia makes it then they should know about it, only a thought!!
Too much city/suburb driving is NOT good for diesels. Its not what their meant for! Common problem with all c ity/surburb diesel cars. Should have got the petrol version.
