Lid gets stuck even on replacement model
Not fit for purpose. I received a replacement model after the faulty lid mechanism meant the lid kept sticking on the first one I had purchased. Now the replacement kettle has the same fault after only a few months. Expensive, faulty lid design. Not fit for purpose. Their other products I find are great so maybe they should forget about making kettles.
Premium look, great features, but has the worst designed lid opening mechanism
This kettle is nicely made, looks great and having different temperatures is a really handy function. It is very comfortable in your hand thanks to it's oversized handle, it pours nicely (I know that sounds strange but not all kettles have the same shaped spout and this does make a difference to the way they pour).
Other things that are worth mentioning are: the big illuminated window makes it easy to see how much water is in the kettle, but you have to press the 'start' button for this to light up. The 'hold temp' function is great for people

Now for the things that definitely need improving: the button to open the lid is the worst I have ever used. Considering it is one of the main functions of a kettle, it needs to be redesigned. It worked for the first two days and then started sticking or jamming. You have to push on it a certain way, and usually more than once, for the lid to fling open. For such a premium kettle I did expect more. If you're reading reviews about this kettle, this is the most common complaint and has been for years. Also, you'd think it would be pretty straight forward to turn the kettle on - not really. You press the 'start' button once to illuminate the buttons and then you change or confirm the water temp and then you press 'start' again for it to begin the process. Sometimes you have to press 'start' a few times because it doesn't always register that you've pressed it, although it does 'ding' every time. I suppose my biggest complaint is that KitchenAid have not rectified the lid opening mechanism. Many customers have complained and it just seems to be ignored. Overall, I'm happy (I guess) but I could definitely be happier.
A waste of money
I have now replaced the same kettle 3 times and my mixer also stopped working. Both just after the warranty period. Totally kitchen Aid products are not worth the price tag.

Know better, choose better.
Lid not opening appears to be a common problem.
Being an expensive appliance, the lid opening mechanism does not release easily but more importantly, the kettle now refuses to turn off and is unusable. Planned obsolescence was not expected with this item when purchased.
This kettle is great!
Buttons are firm, robust feel, boils water fast and controls temperature. Basically it does its job well! Highly recommend! Only drawback is the lid pops up fast, and the kettle doesn't fully empty when poured out. Got to tilt left and right a little to empty it.

Purchased Jan 1 2020. Problems with lid not opening within weeks despite pushing the release button repeatedly. A friend had the same problem. This is a potential scalding injury waiting to happen. Kitchenaid has a helpline but they have been "in training" for weeks when you call and will not allow phone contact with staff. Had to submit a warranty claim online and have waited weeks and weeks with no reply. Disappointed to say the least. A helpline should genuinely be there to help, but it seems to be there to deflect. Was asked to submit a rev

What would be the point of a review if it is filtered to reflect what the company wants the public to hear rather than the truth? The truth is the lid does not work as promised and it seems to be a common problem.Questions & Answers
This is the second one of these (Almond Cream) kettles we have bought in 3 years!! At $229 each, (bought to match our 4 slice toaster, stand mixer, food processor and nespresso machine) I am fed up with replacing it. I have been a KitchenAid girl for years and my previous to that kettle was the silver one of the same brand. The lid has not opened, ever on these 2!!! On any of them. As kids are grown I didn't worry about this design feature of it playing up (you put up with things for aesthetics sometimes when older) Although grandkids now old enough to make a cuppa but I am so concerned with one of them scalding themselves I won't let them. But again, the electronics of my kettle has stuffed itself on the second Almond Cream (as I said 3 years) . Seriously... not good enough.. both Almond creams were bought from Peters of Kensington who have said I must deal with KitcheAide direct so haven't bothered as you are online and I am a tea drinker and in need of kettle quick so just replaced myself. Please contact me regarding this, i am happy to provide you with proof of my purchases through Peters. Please contact me on [email protected].
Hi, my wife would like to buy this kettle as it matches the Kitchenaid toaster we are about to buy however it looks very similar in both appearance and specifications to the KEK1722 (/listings/kitchenaid-artisan-kek1722) which apparently had some serious issues (including a recall).
Between this model the KEK1835 and the KEK1722 has anything been done to address the problems mentioned in reviews for the KEK1722 (such as with the lid)?
Many thanks in advance
Phil

Update Nov 22 2020.
KitchenAid did not contact us but replaced the kettle for free, within the warranty period. It was posted to us with a tracking number. They did at least make good on their warranty, which was very welcomed.
