5th time the car has broken down
2017 car and its the 5th time its was sent back. First it was the reversing camera and now suspension fault. I had to get it towed. What a terrible experience.
I do have extended warranty on it but its just so unreliable. Once one problem is fixed another one pops up. I wish i never bought this car and land rover should take responsibility for this lemon that they have created.

Room for improvement
Have been driving since November last year. Driving experience has been great. Good interior space, too. A few points of improvement needed: 1. Miss the signature square design 2. back mirror had dirty marks inside when first received (already replaced by dealer) 3. 2nd row seats not very easy to operate for 3rd row access (ours is manual). 4. One wheel guard and mirrors have scratches already ... couldn’t they be made of more scratch proof materials? 5. Strong smell from interior materials 6. which I could install babyseat in the middle of 2nd row.

An Excellent Vehicle
I bought this vehicle primarily to travel throughout Australia and was acutely aware of the risk given Land Rovers reputation for a troublesome ownership experience. All I can say at this stage is that the gamble has paid off handsomely.
Pro's:
- Extremely capable in stock form, particularly compared to the competition from Toyota, Nissan and the like. The air suspension and terrain response largely negate the usual requirement to fit a suspension lift and differential locker. If you can find a disco with the optional rear E-Locker differen...Read more

Last real tough luxury off-road landy
This vehicle is more on the lines of the original Range Rover.
You can drive this to hell and back and it stands by you like a good old friend.
Performance and handling is excellent.
Seat comfort is the best and than other makes probably due to BMW influence.
Reliability is average as things do wear but you can easily maintain this vehicle because there is an abundance of information and cheap parts you can order from UK. The markup on parts from dealers in Australia is daylight robbery.

Great SUV and Family Car
This is a great versatile family SUV. Has all the luxury trimmings you would need. Driving performance is great - very low noise especially for a diesel.
7 seater flexibility can fit the extended family - very spacious inside. High riding height ensures great visibility for the driver and passengers all around.
Dislikes - as an older model - misses out on some of the latest gadgetry - ie. blindspot monitoring etc.

Definitely the best "ever" from Land Rover.
Having owned Land Rover's and Range Rover's since the 1960's I can confidently say that the Discovery 5 TDV6HSE is the "best vehicle ever" to come out of the Land Rover factory in Solihull UK.
I had to wait 7 long months for my personally selected and personally optioned vehicle. It was delivered as ordered with all accessories fitted prior to delivery and at no extra cost by Barbagallo Land Rover in WA.
18 months ago I bought the fully optioned Discovery Sport TD4HSE, but it is not in the same category as the Discovery 5 and I must say it...Read more
was worth the 7 months wait for it after having to suffer driving the Discovery Sport for 18 months. With its factory optioned 21" wheels it drives like a dream, incredibly quiet and incredibly comfortable, and with all of the latest technology incorporated. It is incredibly powerful with only a 3 litre diesel and can compete with anything else on the road. Be warned you could be sitting on 130kph or more and not even realise it. It has been off road in the bush and on country gravel tracks and the dust suppression is excellent. All the double door seals work perfectly with no dust getting into the vehicle. With it's electronic road suspension controls and hill descent functions it certainly leaves any opposition 4WD in the shade.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Expensive lemon
Waited for my disco 5 for 6 months, delivered in September 2017 with a promise of service once in 2 years and this is the second time the car is with trivett service Parramatta. I have 5 years manufacturing warranty but taking a brand new car back to service station due to faults is dreadfull. The loan car is provided but you may choose 35 dollars per day for access reduction and I think most will choose that.now the car is with trivett Parramatta for more then 11 days and still don't know the date we will have it back. Dealing with trivett ...Read more
and then land rover is a terrible experience and youcan expect most of your emails being unanswered. The issue started with the Infotainment system with the reversing camera refusing to work at times. The screen turns blue as well .the only option is to shut down and restart the car. This can be tricky in Sydney especially in shopping centres. I think it is a manufacturers fault as the brand new loan discovery 5 has started to have the same issues. I totally regret the buying a land rover. The drive is comfortable and the reliability is zeroSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Best 4wd ive owned
Purchased my 99 disco auto a few years ago. Couldnt be happier with it. Tows my boat with ease. 200k on the clock. Had 3 amigo lights when i purchased the vehicle, replaced the abs shuttle valve for under $100 and all good. Fuel economy is amazing for a 4wd that weighs over 2 tonne, i get 9.5 litres. Have owned a 96 Prado previously, and an 01 navara. They dont compare to the disco. Looking at getting an ecu remap soon for some more get up and go.

Nothing but the BEST
Owned a 2008 Freelander 2 which took me around the country including Cape York. I liked it so much I bought a 2012 Disco 4. Disco is quiet at any speed, very comfortable, spacious and practical, ride very well, smooth easy power at all speeds. Tried Victoria high country with ease. Love the unique exterior design and Discovery 2017 is not for me.

Great car
One of the best decisions ever made. Road comfort is worth it with its air suspension. Bought a dealer demo for 70k. It replaces prado for its money spent. Once a year service or 26k kms service. Prado or any other cars needed two or three services at this mileage. Cost 700$ for service and is a dreAm to ride.now I prefers long trips. Can occupy 7 adults comfortable

Best 4WD under 20k
More comfortable and prestigious than the Japanese 4WDs under 20k, you get the luxury car feeling as soon as you get inside, and drives very comfy and quiet. Fuel costs are relatively high, 15-16 litres per 100km, and could only be serviced by land rover specialists. Don't even bother bringing it to a normal mechanic shop. You might get some trouble with the engine warning lights etc. but once fixed by a good land rover mechanic it runs smoothly without any problems. Really enjoy driving this one and wouldn't change for another SUV for under 20k, this is the best you can get for that sort of money. Petrol ones are less trouble than the diesel ones.

Seat belt fraying and trim wearing
Dream to drive, fuel sensor in tank replaced now ok. s the buck or have no powers. Now we have trouble with the door on the passenger side not opening to fix it was quoted around $800. Also from 100,000 k the air compressor is slow and is failing. Was charged $300 plus to diagnose. Wonder how much to repair it? Too many issues with this car. We were told by a Land Rover dealer, "what do you expect it is four years old" so go to a cheaper car that lasts longer than that. Royal Warrant? Means nothing these days certainly not quality. We do not want to sell this lemon to some one else as we were advised to do. They suggested to get rid of it after two years. Both Bruce Lynton Gold Coast and Fosseys Tamworth. Guess it is not a luxury car but just some sort of missed promoted status symbol. We do not do any off road driving. October 5th 2017 Update: Frayed seat belt, worn seat belt component, passenger door actuators failure, air suspension needs a 2013 Land Rover. The car is a delight to drive but the cost and failure of parts after 3 years is very expensive. The replacement of the door actuator was quoted at $540 plus $90 for quote the door would not open. The air suspension was checked as it is slow to rise cost $180 possible compressor $1350 plus labour to replace this. My husband replaced the actuator with an original part for $300 tops 2 hours as he was unfamiliar with We could have bought the little motor from China for $20 but we were travelling. The seat belt right at the top not across the body area is frayed the plastic trim has worn will not be long before it cracks. Our car is treated very very well it looks new inside and out.Purchased in July 2021.

There are lemons out there!!
It has all the makings of the perfect family car. Unfortunately our car was extremely unreliable and therefore, very unsafe.
We bought our car new from Barbagellos in Perth in 2010. At 27,000 kms, the first of the car's significant issues presented itself.
The car developed computer related faults that would cause it to shut itself down, even during highway speeds, forcing you to manhandle the car to the side of the road. As the engine would cut itself out, there was no power steering during this time, making this extremely hard even for a ...Read more

LEMON - AND LANDROVER ARE HORRENDOUS TO DEAL WITH
LEMON! This vehicle has so much potential, but if you don't like constant safety issues and major repairs, don't go near Land Rover. Not only did our Discovery 4 break down on a motorway just 6 km off the showroom floor, Land Rover refused to replace it with a new car, and instead kept it for 14 days and replaced the blown gear box, which had failed after 6 km. The trauma wasn't so much that our brand new car broke down on a main road during peak hour and I had to direct B Double trucks around our car stuck in the right lane of a major Sydne...Read more
y arterial, but the way in which we have been treated since. Land Rover took weeks to respond to our request for a new vehicle (far be it for the consumer to insist on a new vehicle when they just paid for exactly that 30 minutes prior to the major failure causing this brand new car to be towed) and Head Office not only refused to replace the car, but their insistence that it has been 'returned to manufacturers specifications' has failed over and over again. We have had the following issues: 1. Major gearbox failure at 6km requiring new gearbox. 2. Steering arm loose - major safety concern. 3. Continual oil leaks from where the gearbox was replaced (it has been removed twice so far and continues to leak) 4. Major steering vibration on the motorway so the car now sits idle in the driveway, unable to be driven far and at speed above 60km/h. If Land Rover had any customer service skills whatsoever, this would have been rectified long ago. They treat customers with disdain and, although they offered an extended 2 year warranty, this car has been in and out of the repair shop so many times it is simply a lemon. Latest request to have it repaired now falls on deaf ears at the local Land Rover franchise. They want to wipe their hands of it (they say our car being repaired under warranty will mean they are out of pocket!) and won't respond to emails, won't return phone calls. The most stressful experience ever, when your dream car, full of potential, sits idle on the driveway. The way we have been treated has caused so much stress, I cannot warn you enough not to buy a Landrover. Save yourself the grief. Now onto Fair Trading.......Similar opinion? D4 HSE 2014 Update
Its an excellent vehicle - tows brilliantly, powerful, very easy to steer compared to 200 Series Toyota, touch screen is great and the car feels as if its designed by individuals rather than committees.
I write though to say that all the 3 litre diesels have twin turbos, not just the "SD" variants. The difference is in the Turbos themselves. While I love the power, and it is handy when towing to have a lot more KW, the premium for the engine is probably a false economy. However the interior upgrades I find very useful - the sat nav is terri...Read more
fic. I think a reversing camera (standard on all I think) is mandatory. The headlights on mine are bright but you can always add spot lights. The main reason I bought at HSE was because of the seats - beating short from my waste up, I raise the seat a little bit - and I have long legs, so I move the seat back. On the standard TDV6 seats, that leave a hole in the small of your back. So I needed the more adustable seats. Which are very comfortable indeed. I tow a 2.5 tonne van - an Australian Off Road Matrix. I cruised at 110 coming back for SheepYard Flat to Melbourne, and got 10 litres per 100 KM (actually a bit less on the computer). If I cruise at 96KMH (which is 100 on the speedo) I get around 13 litres per 100 KMH - on the computer. So more like 13.4. If I cruise slower, I will get around 12 litres/100m, and if I cruise at 106 (110 on the speedo) I will get high 14s. But if I am climbing, then the fuel economy increases. When I got that 10/litre per 100KMh, I was decending - Sheepyard Flat is in the hills (near Mt Bulla) and also, a good wind must have been behind me!! I don't have many negatives on the D4. Probably the only negative is that the fuel tank is a bit small. My van though can carry 80 litres of diesel - but many remove the underneath tyre and put a second tank in. However that is only good IMO if you are "On the Road" all time ... I am not. The trailer parking when in reverse, is quite outstanding - I can reverse up to the van, step out and drop the van straight onto the tow bar. The only issue with the rear camera, is that its not directly above the tow bar - so you have to place the tow bar (which is visible when the camera automatically crops into the close up view when you get close to the van) to slightly one side of the van's tow tongue. Detaching is a piece of cake.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The 3 Amigos
It is so disappointing that Land Rover did not recall this model over the ABS brakes system . The Wabco (Germany) ABS has exhibited a fault by illuminating three lights on the dash with regular monotony. It appears that owners all over the world are annoyed by this ABS failure., My vehicle has 108,000 klms now and I have endured this for about 38,000 klm to now. In desperation I removed the ABS modulator last week and posted it to an ABS repairer in Shawnee (USA) for a positive repair. I regard the failure of Land Rover to recall and repair the ABS as negligent.
