The 3 Amigos
It is so disappointing that Land Rover did not recall this model over the ABS brakes system . The Wabco (Germany) ABS has exhibited a fault by illuminating three lights on the dash with regular monotony. It appears that owners all over the world are annoyed by this ABS failure., My vehicle has 108,000 klms now and I have endured this for about 38,000 klm to now. In desperation I removed the ABS modulator last week and posted it to an ABS repairer in Shawnee (USA) for a positive repair. I regard the failure of Land Rover to recall and repair the ABS as negligent.

Love my car
I love this car. I have one baby and a second on the way and it's got some much room for everything you need to lug around with 2 kids. This car is a heavy vehicle which I didn't like at first but since driving it for nearly a year I can't stand driving any of those cheaper light vehicles. They just feel so unsafe. Also being a diesel it did take a while to wear it in as it was a bit touchy for a a few months but now it's smooth sailing.

Awesome vehicle
Having done 76,000km so far i can honestly say the driving experience is fantastic. Extremely comfortable (its like driving a leather recliner lounge chair around), quiet and effortless to drive. Plenty of power, great vision via the large windows and 7 seats makes this vehicle a top choice. Heaps of room in the cabin and plenty of space in the back for storage (I've got an Engel fridge mounted in mine with heaps of space left for other stuff). Mine has been very reliable and it's not too thirsty depending on your driving style.

D4 - much more than a 4x4
After 150,000km I say more than enough power to make pulling a 2.2 tonne caravan all over Australia a pleasure. Powerful acceleration if needed. Handles like a well- bred car and has brakes that are superb. Excellent vision, excellent wipers and outstanding headlights. Low to moderate road and engine noise, little wind noise.
Interior: especially seat options including full-foldown centre and rear seats give outstanding cargo space; 3rd row seats are adult size with easy access. Extensive storage areas including twin glove boxes. Air bag susp...Read more
ension very smooth and its lowering feature excellent for shorter pax. accessing and exiting vehicle. All controls are well placed and easy to use. I would prefer clearer illumination of the gauges in day light. Aircon. is excellent and easy to set and independent air con. for 3rd row seats with separate controls excellent. Set back of front seats and modest rake of windscreen provide excellent glare reduction as does glare- reducing glass all round. Fuel economy according to accumulating trip computer for 150,000km is 8.2 litres/100 km. Regular driving usually 7.4liters/100km. On-road reliability absolute; replaced suspension bushes, front, @ 123,000km, rear brake pads at 67,000km, front still original pads. Tyre life of Toyo Highway 76,000km, 30% with caravan, very satisfactory.(See my review of Toyo Highways ).Lubricants relatively expensive but extended periods between changes mitigate that expense. Vehicle set up allows home-maintenance for regular servicing needs. Most substantial point of criticism is difficulty of getting to the under-slung full size spare wheel.

Why own anything else
I have had my Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 SE auto now for 2 years.
This is by far the most complete vehicle I have ever owned since starting to drive in 1982. I 4x4 quite a bit and no matter the conditions, she performs flawlessly each and everytime in total comfort. This vehicle is a sophisticated piece of machinery so needs to be serviced at the agents otherwise you will pick up problems.
There is plenty power, seating position is amazing, driving comfort is 5 star. You just don't get tired when driving long distances. The car looks great...Read more

Poor experience
There is no doubt that the Discovery 3/4 are lovely cars to drive and full of good technical features however reliability issues are a major source of expense and concern for many owners: I was one such owner. The cars are full of clever electronics which are great when they work but can be a nightmare to repair when you have a fault. My experience begun after 5 years of ownership and about 100000kms. The car developed a problem which put it into a type of limp mode which meant no power and coasting to a stop. Once stopped you could start the c...Read more
ar again and drive off as if nothing had happened until it would stop again without warning. This problem, which was very dangerous as you can imagine, went on continually for 12 months with many visits to Land Rover dealers and specialists. In the end I spent 10,000 dollars with no successful resolution and got rid of the car. Dealing with Landrover Australia over the issue was another unpleasant story that I won't go into. Anyone considering buying a Landrover Discovery 3/4 as a used car needs to go in with their eyes wide open as expensive repairs and issues of unreliability are common. The cars'poor resale values in part reflect this fact.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Car with great ride
Good car that is great to drive, for its size is very easy to park great turning circle and visibility. Quiet and comfortable ride.
It is a bit thirsty around the city 14.5L/P 100km but not to bad on the highway 11.5L/P 100km.
There are lots of parts on EBay, by reading reviews and watching YouTube you can save a fortune on servicing.

Best car Ive ever owned
Ignore the Nay Sayers these cars are brilliant. Ok so they are on the big side but they are surprisingly agile and easy to park. Weve done many miles in our Disco on all sorts of roads and tracks, towed trailers and carted stuff up and down the countryside. The disco has never let us down. Ive owned equivalent 4x4s like Toyota and Nissan but they dont come close to the driving experience of my Disco. The 7 seats and space, combined comfort and overall ease of driving make long journeys a pleasure. If you keep the servicing up and drive it luck the type of vehile it is you will get years of function snd pleasure out of your Disco. Trust me. Drive one and you will be converted

This is my 4th Landrover Discovery 4
Reliability is great. I have just recently upgraded from a TDV6 to an SDV6 (single turbo diesel to twin turbo diesel) the power difference and torque is very noticeable not that the TDV6 was under powered at all. I upgraded because you can never have enough torque or HP. The fuel consumption has however shown some impact with the upgrade, not exactly sure if it's due to more power or the way I've been driving! The 7 seats is a full 7 seats, very comfortable and spacious unlike its competitors where the 7 seats feel like an after thought and jus...Read more
t cramped. In summary, it's a luxurious workhorse that handles beautifully like a sedan than a tank. I have been driving this car for almost 3 1/2 years and it still smells new, the leather has held up under intense conditions (2 kids, multiple camping trips). I've taken it on sand dunes and mild 4 x 4 tracks and it performs beautifully. I'm so sad that this is the last model of its kind. I don't think I'll get the Disco 5 as it is not as aesthetically pleasing and I think its lost the balance between luxury and a workhorse. Hopefully Land Rover will come to its senses and return the design to its original Ethos.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love me disco!
Absolute tank this one. Love my disco and wouldn't look at any other truck. I've put a few mods on her but she's still going strong, costs buggerall to run compared to others and I've never spent more than the occasional service keeping it on the road (when it's not on the farm)

Discovery for big 4x4 with luxury, power and the most comfortable ride on the market
We bought a Disco after extensive searching and reviewing. I have to say it is one of the best cars we have ever owned. The ride is unbelievable, so comfortable and soaks up very rough terrain like it's not there, those suspension airbags are a bit dicky, but when they are working they are amazing! The engine is superb, this car weighs nearly 3 tonne and motors smoothly & quietly until you stick your foot into it, then it slots down a gear, growls like a big angry bear and heads for the horizon at an impressive rate, up hills or otherwise. It's...Read more
not cheap to run, but nobody buys a vehicle like this for fuel economy. The internal appointments aren't a patch on a BMW X5, but you feel like you could go through a brick wall in this and the Beemer definitely doesn't feel like that. I have to say that the reliability of some of the systems is not 100%, but so far nothing too expensive has gone on the fritz.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

before you knock it... try it
The disco 4 is amazing to drive, both on the bitumen and in the dirt. On the road it is very smooth and quiet. In the dirt it eats up ruts, potholes and on sand. The interior is well laid out and easy to use, great sound system and very comfortable and with a huge load space. The car is very reliable and not a guzzler, on the flat road no wind it will sit at 100kph and the engine only ticking over at about 1400 rpm, averaging about 8.6 ltrs to the 100km while the service is expensive its worth it. But don't bag it until you own one. While they did not have good name, times have changed, they are worth every penny.

Best 4WD available
The smoothest car I have driven. Air suspension is very good.
Very economical. Driving around in Sydney traffic I can regularly achieve better than 10 litre / 100 KM.
Opted for Tech Pack and rear air conditioning. Worthwhile taking.
The only improvement I would seek is better maps in the navigation system.
The best car I have driven. Every passenger has been impressed with the quality.
Dealership provided outstanding customer service.

Dont get one without an extended warranty!
These cars look great, feel great and are awesome off road. They are perfect in most ways except they go wrong! And this costs. The landrover dealers are buffoons and have little knowledge of the car. We had handbrake problems,$2500, alternator and battery failure $1300, turbo actuator $750, suspension bounce $1500, leaking windscreen, reversing camera failure, front bushes $1600. This is what we signed to? Got rid of it! In 30 years of car ownership, owning over 20 cars never had I paid out so much money. We would get in to it, I would look at my wife and say "what will go wrong today!" Would still consider an old defender. Bought a German car and it never goes wrong!

Very pleased, performance, reliability, comfort and fuel economy
The car is a pleasure to drive for my wife and myself, we tow a 19'6" van with it without any problems at all, to a point of not really knowing it is there. The interior is comfortable with good leg room all round, the sound system is a pleasure to listen to with road noise being monimal.
Operating costs after 3 years has been low, the first service was performed by the dealer but very expensive, the second service 12 months later was performed by a local mechanic and was approximately 25% of the cost and using the same oils etc. Service can't be recorded in the Land Rover computer system, but I don't care about that. Next service is almost due but will use the same mechanic.

Excellent vehicle, very impressed.
Bought our Discovery new in September 2015, so far we've done 20k in it, mainly around town but we've also taken it on longer trips and on some fire trails. I did the Land rover off road course which was offered free, I knew I would be impressed with its capability and I was. The only slight critisism is the infotainment system, very slow. I tend to use my iphone as a GPS instead of the built in system. The Meridian sound system is fantastic as is the DAB radio. Very comfortable car for carrying children in. A bit thirsty around town, but that could be due to my driving style, surprisingly quick if you put your foot down.

Land Rover Service
I purchased a Land Rover Disco 2 TD5 new from Lance Dixon, Ferntree Gully in October 2004.
I always took my vehicle to Lance Dixon Doncaster for repairs and service. But no more.
0n or around 13 March 2013 Lance Dixon replaced the fuel pump in the vehicle, which involved removing and replacing the fuel tank. Following this work, the fuel gauge was not seated correctly (showing incorrect fuel levels) and the fuel tank was removed and the gauge reseated. In June 2016 fuel started leaking from above the fuel tank when the motor was runnin...Read more
g. The fuel tank was removed to find damaged fuel lines because they had not been correctly sited when the fuel tank was replaced in 2013. On or around 26 September 2013 Lance Dixon replaced the battery in my vehicle. Following this work I was unable to turn the motor off, the cruise control kept disengaging, and the electric trailer brakes were not working. I had to return the vehicle to have these matters rectified, but paid for a new electric brake console myself. On or around 16 September 2014 Lance Dixon completed a service and failed to notify me, or carry out mechanical work on a water leak. At this same service I had asked that a light in the dashboard be replaced, but I was informed they were unable to obtain a globe.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bit different
First new car for 16 years, so is a big change, change from manual, wind the windows to all auto. So far so good, interior plastic is a little disappointing, the expensive interior protection did not cover the plastic, so out with the Armorall.
Pain work is fair, not the best coat of paint I have seen, it has a few blemishes.
The Disco is great to drive and cannot wait to hitch the van and go for a long drive.

Hi I am looking to buy a discovery 4 2010.
At the moment two in my list
1. Tdv6 2.7 with 170000 km. Single turbo
2. Tdv6 se 3.0 with 180000km. Twin turbo.
Both are 2010 with $4000 more for the 3.0.
Is it safe to buy one after this many kms? If it is what are the things I have to look in to.Is turbo replacement common problem on any of this.
Which is better to maintain 2.7 or 3.0.
I only owned Japanese cars before and have done most of the works by myself(except removing engine parts) so any advice or information will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance

Hello Keleb, I too shared your apprehension about buying the Discovery 5. However, I ended up going ahead and bought my HSE in July 2022 and I do not have one regret! My wife and I have done 15,000km so far (due to Covid19 we have hardly travelled in the past few months) and 7,000km of that was towing our 20ft caravan from South Aust to outback Queensland and back. The car is so comfortable, has great power for towing, and we are extremely happy with the economy. Offroad, it has out performed any of the other 4WDs we have owned. It has not missed a beat. I'm not affiliated with Land Rover in any way, but I can easily say that this is the best car we have ever owned!
Thanks Deedub..I'll keep on the case...the change over price will be critical as will decent off road tyres which have been very hard to get for my current 2015 Disco 5.Any suggestions?
Sorry 2017 not 2015 Disco 5
