Not happy
I have come to the decision after getting the brush off from Mazda dealer when I rang to report that my car is only five years old and only done 70,000 km and the air condition as blown up and is cost a fortune to fix that I would never recommend this car to anyone.

Bad buy
My 2012 has had to have new wiper blades, battery and all tires replaced with only 20 thousand miles. Paint has chip off both review mirrors. Brakes will be next. Feels like a lemon. No help from dealership. Will never buy a Mazda again. Would love to trade off but don't want to give anybody this car.
Terrible warrenty service.

Ok car -but buyer beware
I just traded in my Mazda 3 neo after having this car for 4 years. I had travelled approx 85,000 kms at trade in. I was the first owner, bought it from new and always maintained dealership servicing. This car was initially great, but its poorly made. The reasons for getting rid of it outweighed the reasons for keeping it. The headlights and reverse lights (at night) are woeful, particularly on low beam in poorly lit areas or country driving. I was not able to see anything. Candles would have been more efficient than low beam. The auto trans w...Read more
ould clunk going into second gear from first gear when it was cold. The map lights stopped working and I was told it was going to cost around $300 to fix it. The cruise control light on the dash would turn out without warning. Steering squeaked. Poor visibility out the back window. If steering wheel was adjusted down I was unable to read the speedo. Hard to keep clean, and dust sticks to the dash board due to the texturing of the plastics making it impossible to clean. The plastics scratch easily as well. Hard to get small children in and out if the back seat as the door is a different shape. Mechanically sound, but very expensive to service. I did not purchase another Mazda at trade in. It never broke down, and was mechanically reliable, but the auto trans was going to have problems in the future Poor visibility with lights are on low beam, not suited for driving in poorly lit areas, expensive to service and run, not economical, hard to clean, not designed for families with small children, electrical issuesSimilar opinion? 2009 Mazda3 Neo Sport
This was my very first car - brand new in 2009. I had seen these around and wanted one for a long time. I adored it at first and 5 years on, I still do but I'm not looking through rose-coloured glasses anymore. It's not perfect. For one, I was crazy to spend the amount I did and get a 4-star car where the most luxurious feature is power windows. My model was the last batch before they added on things like bluetooth, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, 6 air bags, ESC, etc.
It also seems very low to the ground and I scrape the fron...Read more
t of the car almost everywhere! I thought my tyres were just under-inflated but no, that's just how it is. My parking space at work has a bollard that lies on the ground when you park over it and even that proved too much for my car. It completely ripped the engine splash guard off the bottom of my car, and I had to pay $300 for a new one. My second gripe is regarding the air conditioner. Mine has always had a funny smell. Since the day I drove it out of the dealership but it got worse over time and smelled like some old sweaty socks. I finally had Mazda replace all the filters and flush it out, costing $300. It was fine for a week or two and then the smell was back, though it wasn't as bad. Now for the good. I find this car very comfortable and fun to drive. I also regularly drive a VW Golf GTD which has been praised for years for its superior build, etc. It is definitely an excellent car, but I find my Mazda much more comfortable and responsive to drive. The VW feels safer and more robust especially in heavy rain but the suspension is super stiff. I can't say it enough - Mazda3 is really fun to drive. I also like it's looks. Even for a base model, I feel it has a sportiness about it. I love its looks inside and out. Economy isn't class leading - it's a bit thirsty and prolonged time in the sun seems to have damaged the dashboard a little. Things are starting to peel which shows a little cheapness. The CD player and stereo system I find better than expected. I've heard a lot worse and I'm someone who needs to have the tunes while I'm driving.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love my Mazzy
I have the 2011 series 2 Mazda 3 Neo Hatchback in Black, and cannot fault it at all. This was my first brand new car,i owned a 1997 Hyundai Excel prior and loved it, but was time for an upgrade. The fuel Economy is amazing, cost me about $55 - $60 to fill and i get about 700kms out of a tank. Very zippy, which i love! Extremely Comfortable. I just love my mazzy so much and it looks great too.cant wait to see how the new Mazda 3.

Does its job
I have a MY2012 Mazda 3 Neo purchased new to replace my old runabout which was consigned to car heaven. During the test drive, I was impressed that the Neo was so zippy and had relatively good handling so I bought the car. My first impressions after taking delivery was that the car was lethargic and nowhere near the zippy car that I tested and I was questioning if I had actually tested an Sp25 or the test car was re-tuned. At the first service, I was told perhaps it was the cheap fuel, tyres and engine not wearing-in which would play a part....Read more
So now after 18 months of ownership, I have tried everything (fuel, tyres and even tyre pressures) and I realized that the car was still lethargic, not zippy, and consumes fuel worse than a car with more cylinders and capacity. Dealership experience. The Mazda dealer was top notch and can't fault them. Got what I wanted, delivered on time and service was on time and on budget thanks to cap price servicing. Exterior. The paintwork is not bad considering that I park in the sun and the paint work and lacquer coating is holding up well under our Australian sun. I have a dolphin grey coloured vehicle which hides dirt quite well and wash it once in about 2 months. Interior. The interior of the car is low rent cheap plastic which is reflective of the price, low $20,000 mark. Cloth seats are firm (good) with good range of adjustments for the drivers seat. Rear is good for 2 adults and is easy to get in or out off as the seats are not too low. Boot. Rear seats fold down but alas, not flat and has a hump which makes sliding in long heavy items a back breaking exercise. Other than that, quite spacious and relatively square-ish that fits most moving boxes - if you move your own stuff from house to house.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great Simple Car
Every Practical advantage you need from a car without any of the junk loaded in that causes niggles, headaches and basically excessive stress and maintenance costs. I nearly choked when I got my first maintenance bill. Wish I'd bought a Mazda years ago. It was like a symphony orchestra started playing in my ear and I was the light.

... Great value if that's what your after.
Purchase my Mazda 3 Neo hatchback March 2012 after a previous vehicle was written off.
I shopped around for about three weeks test driving until I couldn't test drive another car. The Mazda represented great value compared to the competition. Since I have owned the Mazda, the following have been addressed at my local dealership (John Newell Mazda, Alexandria Sydney).
- issues with the Bluetooth audio streaming function. Vehicle returned three times, they finally replaced module.
- left side speakers would not work when making or receiving a phone call. Issue rectified.
- drivers sun visor replaced and plastic was bubbling.

Mazda 3 SP25 Glory
Prior to my Mazda 3 SP25 I had the previous model Mazda 3 SP23. The SP23 was faultless. I kept it for three years and was magnificent. Prior to that I had a VW Golf - I wanted reliability and something enjoyable to drive. Golfs great to drive but unreliable (gearbox, electrics - you name it). The Mazda 3 on the other hand is very reliable, I think they are pretty bullet proof. I traded up to the newer model SP25 18 months ago and this car is a step up in terms of smoothness on the road, comfort (the leather seats are to die for) and the BOSE so...Read more
und system with the sub-woofer in the boot is awesome. I do a lot of freeway driving and this is the perfect car for performance, economy, comfort and safety, all pretty important to me. Roll on the next Mazda 3 model. I'm not normally brand loyal but the Mazda 3 has never let me down. The only negatives I have (all cars must have some) are minor. The Sat Nav screen is a bit small - please Mazda make it bigger in your next model - and road noise, this was a problem with the last model. I sat in a new Golf recently and extremely quiet compared to the Mazda. Mazda quality control in servicing is also a bit lacking, disappointed on that score. Comfort, reliability, safety, build quality, sound system, road holding, ergonomics, leather seats, sunroof Sat Nav screen on the small side; road noise especially at high speeds; automatic gearbox a bit dated; needs a 6 speed. Mazda servicing has been a bit poor, with parts missing or not put back on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Over rated and Better Vehicles Out There
Reading some of these reviews I must have been driving another car! This was my first and last Mazda and the reasons are simple. The ride and road noise are noisy and uncomfortable, the suspension must be set to maximize the bumps because it is a very noisy car on the open road. Second, the rear seat space is non existent, try getting anyone over the age of 8 in the back seat without touching the front seat. Third, the front seat is so low to the ground that it is actually hard to get in and out of the car and finally, the cost of servicing. Try getting a booking within three weeks at your local Mazda dealer, only to be whacked $350 for a log book service. Nope, definitely noisy and over rated and not that fuel efficient either..

Great small car
Really happy with our 3 neo. Had a wrx for 13 years and it was time to upgrade. Drove a lot of the small cars but value for money with its inclusions it was hard to beat. After driving a Rex it's a bit vanilla but driving position is nice, enough go with 110 kw, handling can't compare to a Rex but drive is smooth and comfy. 21k price is hard to beat . I use it as the work commuter as we also have a cx7.
Price, power, comfort, economy.

Just got one! Love it!
I absolutely love it. Very affordable car with all the features I could wish for. Might be because I upgraded from an old 20yo Corolla but nevertheless very impressed. Doesn't compare to my husband's Audi of course. Love the hatch and spacious interior. I can transport my bike (with a bit of shuffling) and stuff in the boot easily

Pleasure to Drive!!!
I bought my late 2010 model Mazda 3 Neo Hatch early 2011 brand new from the dealer. This was my first new car so I wanted to make sure it was a good buy which it was! Since then we have started a family and the Mazda 3 is perfect for the three of us. Small enough for my partner to feel confident driving and parking around the city and big enough for us to drive up to Queensland three times in the last year. The cruise control is a great option for long road trips and is a plus having it standard in the manual range which I prefer and havent see...Read more

Disappointed
We are disappointed in our Mazda 3 and the non-service coming from Mazda. We bought new, had a faulty gear something, was replaced but now there is a strange noise coming from the power steering. Overall disappointed in cheapness of the car, cheapness feeling of materials and components. Lots of little things that we didnt really pick up in our many test drives.
HATE having reverse on left side near 1st. Makes much more sense to have it over near 6th gear like in our Honda.

Mazda 3 NEO 6spd
Bought a new 2011 Neo 6 spd - mainly for work purposes. 48,000k in first year economy has averaged 7.9l/100k and definitely has zoom zoom, particularly brakes & turn-in to curves/corners. Gearbox is rubbish, very weak to non existent synchro on 2nd gear, clutch has wide takeup & engine 'hangs' onto revs too long leading to very lurchy forward progress in heavy traffic. Just got word from my mechanic that at the 50,000k service the clunking sound I've been hearing on gear changes is a shot engine mount, I wonder what the dealer will say about ...Read more
this one as a previous gripe I had was explained as "They all do that, I've driven hundreds of these thing"....... that's why I don't get servicing done at the dealer. If dash lights too bright just use the rheostat and turn 'em down! A good car for the price, but I still cherish my BA falcon! Interior, driving qualities, braking ability, ESP ABS & all the airbags. Dud gearbox, pathetic clutch action, after a long day of driving it's suspension firmness is a bit over the top.1 comment

We love our mazda
We've been a Mazda family for years, firstly owning a little "jellybean" 121, then a used 1997 626 which we still have, then our son bought a new Mazda 2 Neo and our daughter followed the trend with her cute bright green Mazda 2 Neo, so when we bought a 2010 Mazda 3 Neo hatch brand new we were sure we'd made the right decision. From driving out of the dealership until now, it's behaved brilliantly. It's spacious inside and has plenty of head room and in the back it has enough space for anything we've had to carry in it. With the seats down, it'...Read more

I bought my 2009 mazda 3 (newer shape) second hand with 25 thousand kms on it - its very nice inside and drives very smoothly but i spent alot on a car because i commute and drive 200kms a day so wanted something reliable and not high maintenance. a few months in and the car was revving very low and jolting quite sharp when accelerating. took it to a mazda dealer to find that the transmission mount was faulty - so luckily that was fixed under warranty. and now just recenetly its shuttering a lot when taking off and accelerating gently. took it ...Read more

I have a 2009 mazda3 2.0 diesel; I have just being advised that this car has a DPF in the exhaust, and that I MUST have the computer reset at every oil change(only at Mazda dealers mind you); also if the light flashes I must take it again to a dealer; I mean ;what the hell! ; So for the life of the car its must be serviced every 10K at a dealer; surely this is not correct. t will be $8000 please. yes you read it correctly, and Mazda will not do a warranty as the ECU was not reset at each oil change (that’s because I do my own services, have for 40 years) and I did have the majors done at the dealer, at no time was I told that if this was not done I would loose warranty and amount of mediation will make them change their mind. So I put an after market on in this cost $3000. Car is now someone else’s problem. so word of warning here DO NOT BUY a car that has a single part worth 30% of the new car price...and must repeat must go to a Mazda dealer for the life of the car, else warranty is gone; and if not in warranty and the DPF dies.....I hope you have deep pockets. i.e. save a few hundred on fuel; spend thousands and thousands on service and parts. PS; I have owned 6 diesels in my time, and a total of 14 cars all from new; and all services by me; except for majors. I have had warranty claims twice before with no issues... Dealers attitude, and service department Bad warranty, expensive parts, not fit for purpose2 comments
Always get service done at dealership or accredited workshop during warranty period or warranty's are void. It's pretty simple really, you didn't read the warranty contract.

What would cause the power steering pump to fail in a one owner 2012 Mazda skyactiv luxury sedan, which has driven less than 19,000 kms. This vehicle has had all appropriate services. The cost of the pump was prohibitively expensive at over $1500 plus labour.
2 answers
Hydraulic power steering fluid can leak from worn or damaged hoses and failing seals. When enough fluid is lost, the power steering pump can overheat or wear out prematurely, resulting in a loss of hydraulic pressure and failure of the power steering system.
This vehicle was recently serviced and still had the power steering pump failure. I realise it is a 7 year old vehicle but has not done more than 19,000kms. Mazda Australia was not interested though I've read on forums that there has been problems with power steering in the past. We also needed a new battery at over $300 for the I-stop feature, which only ever works if the battery has 100% charge. Then the 80,000 km service. It was a very expensive week all up! Disappointed in Mazda!
Thank you for your answer!
